Fireworks and city don’t mix

2. Fireworks are beautiful. Imagine a huge burst of flame against the night sky. Now imagine the flame contains all your baby photographs, your baby blanket and your family pet. Are fireworks worth losing all that? Fireworks within city limits are dangerous and should be outlawed. First, the damage they cause is expensive.
3. In addition, they cause serious injuries every year. Finally, death is even a possibility! If fireworks are allowed within city limits, eventually you or someone you know will lose their home, eyesight or even their life.
4. According to the Appleton Police and Fire Departments, “Every year, fireworks cause an estimated 33,000 fires, and 35 million dollars in property damage.” This is the Citing Statistics technique because actual numbers were used to show the number of fires and damage.
5. Fireworks cause severe injuries each year, such as burns and loss of eyesight. Several states have banned the sale of fireworks. The emergency room visits in these states can prove that the number of fireworks-related injuries have significantly declined. Kansas can also be one of the states that prevents children from being burned and maimed. This is the Bandwagon technique because it is implying that other states are outlawing fireworks and that your state should too.
6. Even death is possible when using fireworks. In 2002, the deaths of four children were caused by fireworks. In Kansas City, 25 year-old Brock Barrett was killed when a four inch mortar exploded in his face.
7. The Consumer Product Safety Commission recommends that fireworks be ignited only by professionals. This is the Testimonial technique because experts in safety claim that fireworks should not be used by citizens of the city.
8. Fireworks cause too much damage to be legal in city limits. The amount of money spent on property damage, the serious injuries caused and the fact that children and adults can be killed, are not worth a few pretty colors in the sky. Are your loved ones and everything you own worth the thrill of a few minutes with Sparklers?
