1. Life Similes
Life is like a box of chocolates . . .
Is one of many similes you can begin with to
explore your own view of life. The key is to
expand the idea from:
“you never know what you’re going to get”
to
“Sometimes you get a nut when you’re
looking for caramel. . .”
Or
“Some people, afraid of the unknown,
nibble just enough to know--
Brave souls pop a whole square, ready to be
amazed. . .”
Work that metaphor!
2. A simile to start you off:
How is life like a:
stack of blocks
salad bar
highway
classroom
airport
stick of gum
roller coaster ride
an IPod
???
How you develop the idea reveals your attitude toward life
(even if it’s just temporary!)
Here are some student examples:
3. Life is like a stick of dynamite
Just waiting to explode.
You never know when the wick
will catch a spark and ignite.
Never know how much time is left.
Never know when it will
actually blow up and shatter everything.
Life is like a magic show.
You spend most of your time
trying to understand
how things are done.
You concentrate hard
on the things around you and
The sleight of hand.
Just when you think something is there,
It disappears before your eyes.
Then, when the tricks are revealed, you
Can’t believe you didn’t understand.
4. LIFE IS LIKE A SET OF BLOCKS
Life is like a set of blocks,
Trying to soar among the clouds,
Morals and values build a foundation,
Character, charm, and personality
help set the structure.
But when a block slips,
It tumbles down upon others,
And only you are left to rebuild the damage.
But no matter how hard the forces may be,
Many blocks will still be standing,
Even though other blocks remain scattered
Below.
Life goes on.
And the blocks are discovered and replaced.
And then the day will come when no more
blocks are left,
For you’ll be able to see your tower soar
Proudly among the clouds.
