  1. Use a podcast testimonial from a local student that's excited about techology at school Introduce myself and the project Main point: Let's move forward; research and data tie technology with achievement gains
  2. Explain that the benefits should target both educators and students
  3. School web pages show what is happening in school, reveal policies, scheduling information, online grades, etc. Creating a transparent curriuculm helps shape a better curriculum for all stakeholders. Contact examples: teacher web pages, links to parent emails in the gradebook, school cancellation postings and text messages Collaboration examples: web-based learning environments, internal email, professional networking
  4. Significant research results aren't easy to come by--this is one of them. An example of a study was looking at what happened when educational software was sent home for home tutoring. Mild to moderate gains in achievement were shown (in addition to improved communication).
  5. An area not to be underestimated. Leadership is needed and support required to get instructors on board and feeling comfortable. Know-how is a major tool. The goals come first, then the equipment. Technology doesn't replace good teachers and practices--it enhances those things.
  6. Kmitta & Davis: simple survey results Wenglinsky: correlation between test results and a post test survey Both point to best practice methods.
  7. Share a story from my high school experience about emerging workforce. Engage listeners in a brainstorming session of how they've seen technology impact daily life.
  8. Area of research weakness. Most studies focus on test scores. Let's remember that education is more than test scores.
  9. Young people often exceed adults in technological sophistication. Let's work together to make public schools a catalyst for student-centered learning. There's much competition that might lead students away from our district halls.
  10. Schacter: survey results Hsiah: learned about the solar system in teams. The teacher did not lecture the tested material. Pre/post tests showed a 23% gain of knowledge. Enthusiasm is contagious.
