2. Football Documentaries
There are only a few films about football and very few
documentaries about football. This is mainly due to sport
video games dominating the market and the audience
preferring to watch live football on their televisions.
We know sportsman/sportswomen from their performance
we see on TV. Many sporting films try to explain the sports
person and the ‘real’ person behind their performance.
Our documentary is different to this as we are focusing on
getting into the industry of football and how hard it is to
get into it.
3. Our Documentary
Goal! The World Cup (1966) has a similar narrative to
our production. It attempts to give a look behind the
scenes of a professional football club.
For our documentary we are going behind the scenes
of Burnley Football Club and Huddersfield Town
Association Football Club.
We hope to get an incite of what happens off the pitch
and in the changing rooms, in training sessions and
after games.
4. History of Football
Globally, football is played by over 250 million players
in over 200 nations, and has the highest television
audience in sport, making it the most popular in the
world.
Sports clubs dedicated to playing football began in the
18th century.
The first documented club to reference a 'football club'
were called "The Foot-Ball Club" who were located in
Edinburgh, during the period 1824–41. The club
banned tripping but allowed pushing and holding and
the picking up of the ball.
5. Women were banned from playing at English and
Scottish Football League grounds in 1921, a ban that
was only lifted in the 1970s. Female footballers still
face similar problems in some parts of the world.
We are only interviewing men based on men's football.
This is because men’s football is a lot more popular
than women's football.
The data here shows that there is a
higher percentage of men who
watch football than females. This
proves that our primary audience
has to be male as it will appeal to
more people. Also it will appeal to
more people if we focus on men as
more men watch football than
females.
