Genre/sub-genre
Genre: Drama

● Our chosen genre is Drama.

● Drama films are hard hitting as they focus on key aspects of life.

● At the end, they usually teach the audience a lesson by its strong moral message.
Inspirational films (1): 8 Mile
      Film name: 8 Mile

      ● This film is inspirational as it deals with aspects of life.

Character : Jimmy is the main character, he
lives in a rundown trailer with his
                                            mom and daughter.

He tends to blame other people for
his misfortune until he realises that
he has the control over all his
                                            situations.

This than leads to him improving
himself inorder to take care of his
                                            family.
Cont.
          Lighting is affective as half
of his face is alienated by
          low key lighting.
           Effective as it gives a
           serious tone as his facial
           expression is neutral.
          Jimmy and his friends
          meet their rivals and get
          into a fight.

        Cheddar (friend of
        Jimmy), pulls out a gun
        and threatens to shoot.
Costume (hoodie
                            and hat) makes him
                            look like a youth.

                                                      Shows the closeness he
                                                      has with his daughter.

                                                 Vibrant clothing makes
                                                 the child seem innocent.

Dressed in dark clothes, Gesture shows that
insinuating that he has a he promises her
dark character to him. something.
Inspirational film (2) : Titanic
Shows she is of high class because she is
         wearing elegant and classy clothing.

                          Rose meets Jack and falls
                          in love with him.

                            Bright and warm colours in
                            this scene depict the mood.

it also represents warmth between two
                        characters and fun.
Cont.
                                                    Rose’s fiancé and lover.

                                                      Low angel makes both characters
                                                      seem dominant or superior

                                        The colour white shows
                                        innocence and purity
Dressed in suit which shows he is
of a higher class.

                               Lighting in this scene is
   TRAGIC SCENE… low key.

                                                  The scene just
                                                  before Jack dies.
                                                  Dark Blue =
                                                  serious, cold.

                                    Shows clearly that its
                                    very cold

Style of opening sequences
Idea 1
● Establishing the characters as it shows that the
main character doesn’t get along with her
    mother
● It also introduces the fact that her mother has
    an alcoholic problem.
Narrative structure and theory
Idea 1 has a non-linear narrative structure as it
starts off at a dis-equilibrium and not at an
  equilibrium to show normality.
