2. Who, what, where, when
What: a real project or task in your company fitting
in your continuous improvement programme
Who: Group of 4 or 5 3rd year students Industrial
Engineering; International or Dutch group
Where: 4 days per week in company for 4 weeks
When: 4 weeks from December 5th till January 13th
(excluding Christmas and New Year’s Eve
holiday period)
3. Deliverables
• Accepted step within a continuous improvement
program, chosen by the company, e.g.
– Kaizen event
– Walk of waste
– Daily meeting
A change has to be made.
• Level of (lean) maturity scan
4. Activities of students
• (Assist in) Developing, preparing and carrying out of
“improvement event”
• Gain acceptance for this event from relevant
stakeholders.
• Analyse Lean Maturity Level
5. Learning objectives
• Hands-on experience in improvement
• Understand that improving needs a situation-dependent
approach
• Know how to pinpoint required level of intervention
6. Prior knowledge of students
Increase Availability of Machine Z
Improve Quality of Product Y
Reduce Lead Time in Factory X
These are third year students that already carried out projects
in companies during their second year.
7. What we ask from you
Prior to challenge
• Decide together: Subproject, task, part of
programme
• Introduction for students before start (last week
of November)
During challenge:
- 2 meetings/week (30 min) with principle
- Resources or data available
End of challenge:
- Rating the deliverables (of the students) as
member of the jury
