2. Newspaper s are a means of information which
people have been using for a long time.
Newspaper s are is also businesses where
employees work so it has to be profitable and
sustainable.
Objective information: Newspapers are
obliged to write down the events in the
exact way they happened.
3. Newspapers address a lot of readers so they effect people’s
lives. As a result, they play an important role in forming
people’s beliefs about:
Economy
Politics
Society
People choose and buy newspapers depending on:
Their educational level
Their political view
Their social class
4. Same event-Different truth
The same event is interpreted in a different way by
different newspapers due to the fact that each
newspaper serves certain economical and political
situations.
Consequently, the public is influenced by the choice
of suitable pictures and titles.
5. The following articles talk about the refugee issue which is
presented in different ways by two different newspapers.
6. The minister for the refugee issues Giannis Mouzalas gave an
interview talking about the European resources which are going to
be given to Greece to deal with the refugee issue.
Do you spot any differences from the titles?
Criminal mistake for the EU to reduce
funds to Greece on the refugee issue
Scrambling to fix the mess on the
refugee issue- Confirmation by (Name
of newspaper)
7. From the title it is clear to
understand that the newspaper
puts the blame on the
European Union so the two
articles have opposite beliefs
for the same event.
This newspaper is trying to
inform the readers about
this event but there is a
clear critical attitude
against the government.
8. The ploy used here is language: The first newspaper which is
friendly to the government uses a more formal, educated
language trying in this way to tell its readers we are not biased
The second newspaper which belongs to an opposing party uses
everyday language of the masses – indirectly saying we are one
of you.
This is a commonly used technique in newspapers.
9. The newspaper puts the
blame on the government.
The government and the
minister are responsible
for the decrease in the
financing.
Just informative,
there is no critical
attitude against the
government.
Another example may be word play.
This may take on different forms. Here
the continuous use of the title of a
person to blame the government
10. The newspaper describes in detail the
minister’s interview.
The article’s
punctuation shows
the ironic style of the
reporter.
11. The use of pictures is also another tool for newspapers
12. The same article may be differently comprehended by two
readers who reach different conclusions.
The way the two newspapers present the same article,
need to be studied if we are to understand that they are
trying to promote specific political convictions.
13. For these reasons we should get informed from different means
of information to find out the validity of the news.
15. The refugee problem is a basic theme even in newspapers of
countries which are out of the E.U, due to the fact that
immigration is one of the serious consequences of war.
Countries at war “create” a serious flow of
refugees European countries
16. THE ARTICLE
This article is about the
meeting, Alexis Tsipras,
Greek prime minister,
and Donald Tusk, the
president of the
European council, had in
Athens, talking about the
flow of refugees in the
European countries.
17. The style of the
article is objective
without any sense of
criticism and this
shows that “Iran
Daily” simply states
facts without taking
sides.
No ironic style
No critical attitude
Just facts
18. This small paragraph underlines the fact that the EU
members do not handle well the refuge crisis.
The Greek
government
needs financial
and political
support for the
immigrants.
19. CONCLUSIONS-COMMON FACTS
As we have examined these three articles we have reached in
these conclusions:
the common facts:
The E.U is not only involved, but responsible for handling the
refugee crisis.
Political choices are not always right
But……
Can we spot any differences in the way Iran
presents this theme, in comparison with the
Greek newspapers?
20. DIFFERENT FACTS
Iran presents the events objectively, without critical attitudes, just why
Iran is not directly involved in this situation.
Contrary to the Greek newspapers, in this article, Iran, did not seem to
serve profits (economical, political..)
Finally, do we conclude that this Iranian newspaper does not
make any propagandas?
The answer is YES!
21. We did not analyze a copy of Iran’s domestic
policy to see its attitude towards government’s
decisions. We analyzed an Iran’s foreign policy
copy and a domestic politics‘ copy for Greece.
22. Nevertheless, newspapers must write down the events
objectively and let people make their own opinion. If this ever
happens it will be a great topic to discus.
CONCLUSION
23. Thank you very much!
