 Since 2017, Margaret Ann Dimond has

McLaren Oakland Hospital in Pontiac,

leadership. A committed animal welfare
advocate, Margaret Ann Dimond supports
the ongoing efforts of the Michigan
Humane Society and its push for animal
protection policies.
Animal welfare law first rose to national
prominence in the 1970s hand in hand
with environmental legislation. Michigan
has had such laws in place going back
much further than that, however. Many of
it’s animal cruelty regulations and dog-
related laws have been on the books for
upwards of a century.

Humane Society
 The Michigan Humane Society (MHS) has
continued the charge for more stringent
animal protection legislation since the
organization’s inception, and as a result,
Michigan has some of the most far-
reaching animal cruelty laws in the
United States.
MHS continues to work with lawmakers
in Michigan to ensure that the state is a
leader in animal protection. During the
last legislative session, tougher regulation
on animal fighting and performing
euthanasia in a humane way were
enacted, among other laws. Those who
