1. Concert Experience
The primarygoal of this course is to develop active listening (as opposed to passive listening). Thatis,students are to cognitively
and emotionallyengage in listening to music ata concert. Concertevaluations are a way of documenting your experiences and
practicing this skill.
Every studentmustattend at leastthree performances of(preferablyunamplified) concertmusic and write an evaluation of the
experience.Concerts are listed in the Arts & Ideas calendar as well as on the DepartmentofMusic website. All concerts notlisted on
these calendars mustbe pre-approved—ContactProf.Manchester.
Please note that videotapes are not typically acceptable substitutes for live concerts,but students with disabilities thatl imittravel to
concerts may petition the instructor for an exception. Concertattendance is very important.
ConcertEvaluations constitute 25% of students’ final grade (each weighted evenly).
Due Date: Last day of the semester
ConcertExperiences mustbe submitted through the widgeton Blackboard. Students are encouraged to attend concerts throughou t
the semester and immediatelywrite their evaluation using the attached form. Once written, students are also encouraged to submi t
