1. In what way does your media product
use, develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real media products?
2. Our film uses forms and conventions of real media
products of my chosen genre because of the fact that
the main character is female and she is alone. This is
shown in many thriller films because if a
female, usually a young female, is alone she is seen to
be vulnerable; especially in the kind of atmosphere
commonly created in films of this genre. However
women who have a protagonist role in a thriller film
can also sometimes be a brave and resourceful
character; they are not all naive and vulnerable even
though they may appear to be before you get to know
the character and the plot.
3. For example...
The main character in 'Panic Room' is a strong
woman who takes a leading role in protecting her
children. With reference to our film, it is only the
first two minutes of a film so which role the female
protagonist will take is not obvious; she could either
turn out to be a vulnerable, timid character, or a
strong, independent character. These are the general
stereotypes and countertypes of women characters in
thriller films.
