2. Their pose is very contrived and it gives the impression that they are unimpressed. It also looks quite intimidating due to their facial expressions and stances. They are dressed smartly therefore they look intelligent – like they really know what they’re singing about. Their smart appearance adds to that feeling of intimidation. The graffiti typeface suggests that they have an edgy and unique style. The black and white colours are simple and give the serious feel, suggesting that the music is serious. The only colour on the cover is a pale blue. However, this doesn’t distract from the black and white thus not erasing that serious feeling. The setting looks like it could be somewhere such as a subway or tube station. This tells us that they are not mainstream, it adds to the edgy effect of the typeface.
3. The black and white image gives the cover the same slightly edgy feel that The Jams album cover has however the bright pink title contrasts and suggests that although their music is primarily quite serious there are other lighter aspects to it. The typeface is simple and reserved. This gives the impression that their music isn’t flashy, it’s simple and honest. Their pose, whilst clearly contrived, looks a lot more natural than The Jams. Also, as they are dressed casually there is not intimidating feel about them. The setting looks like it could be bedroom suggesting that they’re music isn’t flashy, there’s no special effects within it, it’s just them expressing their feelings. Overall the album cover gives the impression that there is real integrity in their music and they are not singing it because they want to be famous but because they really believe in what they are singing about.
4. There is a clear colour scheme as all the yellows, oranges and beiges fit together well. They are very calm, relaxing and cheerful which suggests that the music will be the same. The illustration is simple , there are no details on the face, and it is in the style of a quick sketch or doodle. Already we know that the music is going to be very natural. The typeface has a swirl to it which, whilst still fitting in well with the theme, adds a slight contrast to the cover. This tells us that there is an energy to the music.
5. This cover is very similar to the She & Him album cover which immediately suggests that their music is very similar and if you listen to She & Him it’s very likely that you’ll enjoy dayplayer and vice versa. It looks like someone has roughly doodled the typeface, it isn’t flashy but has more complexity to it than the one on the She & Him cover this suggests that there is slight difference in the styles of music they produce. The illustrations on this cover hints that the music is simple but has a sad element to it. We draw this conclusion because the boy has a hunched, defeated posture. Whilst the colour scheme still has a very natural feel to it there are a greater number of colours compared to the She & Him art. The colours on the boy have an autumnal feel to them which adds to that sad vibe.
6. Whilst the colours on this cover aren’t bright they aren’t as natural as the colours on the previous two covers. This suggests that the music has a different, more complex style. The typeface for ‘Hot Fuss’ looks very neat, simple and professional. However, although the typeface for ‘The Killers’ looks neat and professional the dotted texture adds a contrasting feeling hinting that the music may not be a simple as we may first think. The buildings at the bottom of the cover look like really tall run down office blocks or blocks of flats. They fit in well with simple style of the cover yet they give a contrasting feeling as they are something that wouldn’t look out of place on a cover for The Jam or The Smiths suggesting that the music is of a similar style to theirs.
7. The pose of the girls on this cover doesn’t look pre planned it looks as though they’ve just been photographed as they’re walking this suggests there isn’t a pre planned feel to the music. The colours are normal everyday colours, there is nothing special about them, nothing that stands out. This adds to the spontaneous, not really planned idea that we already have of the music. The setting looks natural, it doesn’t seem like they’re trying too hard to produce anything flashy. We get the feeling that maybe this will be reflected in the music. The girls outfits not only contrast with each other but also with the surroundings as it is not everyday wear. This suggests that their is a lot of contrast in the musical style of the band. The title of the band is in a simple typeface and is fairly small giving the impression that the bands name isn’t really relevant to the music.
