1. Jamie Oliver’s school dinner website research
For my website research I have decided to look into Jamie Oliver’s school dinner sit to see who
designed the website and why or how they designed the website the way they did. Also, I looked into
whether the designers have an audience that they continually create websites for companies for, or
whether they cater to all audiences and how they change the websites around to do this.
I started my research by looking on Jamie Oliver’s website to see whether he had any information in
the small print or on the website anywhere, I found that he had a page in which people could apply for
advertising jobs within his company, but on this page there was also a contact email for an advertising
company, ‘Touchdown Marketing’, I decided to look this company up to see if they created Jamie’s
website. However, I soon came to a dead end when I found that this company only advertise for
Jamie, for instance they published his magazines.
As I found myself out of options on Jamie’s website, I went onto Google and tried to find out who
created his website. I soon found that a company called ‘Wickedweb’ designed his website, and on
their website they had alot of information which was very helpful and also the templates of his
website. Wickedweb did not design the website alone however, they teamed up with Jamie’s
marketing team and technical team, to make sure that the website fit the audience they were trying to
target.
This paragraph on the wickedweb page on Jamie Oliver’s website design is one that stood out the
most as to what they have done to create the website:
Functionality includes dynamic content, such as call-outs to the latest addition, Jamie's newest article
and an honor role highlighting the most active editor. There are also spotlights on the most viewed
articles, just edited comments and the number of people currently logged in. A key feature, which
increases the level of user interaction further, is the ability to vote for useful articles. In addition to
making Foodwise as easy for users to contribute to as possible, a quick and simple search facility was
paramount. Wickedweb designed both a quick search tool, which is featured on each page, and an
advanced search option, allowing users to select food categories as key search criteria, including
growing and sourcing food, healthy eating, 'how to' and sweet treats.
This made it clear to me that the designers had a clear brief and had designed for a specific audience
for Jamie’s website and does not mean that they continually design for a specific audience, it would
seem that they design for specific design briefs set by companies.
