Rotarians Honor Community Partners
The house built by students receives strong community support
Lynnwood (January 26, 2012) – At its weekly meeting on Thursday, members of the Rotary Club of
Lynnwood and representatives from Edmonds School District and Edmonds Community College had
the opportunity to meet and publicly thank the many partners who supported the building of House #37
(2010-2011) with materials, labor and cash donations totaling nearly $49,000. Partners were presented
with the the Dave Thomson Community Service Award, named after the Rotarian who founded the
house project in 1974.
One of the most successful programs of its kind in the country, the Lynnwood Rotary House Project
engages students enrolled in the Edmonds School District Carpentry Program in the hands-on
experience of building a new house each school year. Throughout its38-year history, over 4,000 students
have been positively impacted by the program. Students who desire to continue their construction
education with Project Management certification receive substantial incentives through a partnership
with Edmonds Community College.
The Lynnwood Rotary Community Foundation assumes responsibility for the financial success of the
program by purchasing lots, acquiring house designs, permits, appliances, etc. and putting the sales
proceeds back into the program. Market forces have made continuation of the program financially
impossible without the support of our many partners:
