1. Work in groups of three and provide a friendly definition of what Communicative
Competence stands for. Then, discuss the importance of developing
Communicative Competences in the teaching of English as a Foreign Language
and state a conclusion.
What is the Communicative Competence?

How important is it to develop communicative competences in the teaching of
English as a Foreign Language?

2. In the CEF, communicative competence is conceived in terms of knowledge and
includes three basic components: linguistic competence, sociolinguistic,
competence and pragmatic competence. Drawing on the information about the
assigned competence and its subcomponents, give three examples showing the
relevance of these competences in oral communication.

3. Focus your attention on a specific competence and make short dialogues for a
conversational situation conveying how oral communication can be ineffective or
interfered. All the students must partake in the conversation and then act it out to
the rest of the class.
