2. Example 1
In this image we can see that the
Somerset Standard weekend edition is
being advertised. The use of the dancer
in a bright red dress helps catch the
peoples eye as they walk past due to
the vivid colouring. The poster is very
simplistic, but effective as there is
little text to read meaning people can
take in the whole message without
having to stop and read. They also
feature a small image in the bottom
right corner which may help the public
then spot the product when shopping.
3. Example 2
On this bus billboard we can see that
the Bristol Post is being advertised.
They use a slogan saying ‘it’s your city,
take it with you.’ This slogan is good as
it reaches out to the cities residents
relating to them and reflecting the
locality. The image they have created is
presented central on the poster and is
quite large. The use of the images is
clever as it shows many iconic things
that links to Bristol such as the Clifton
Suspension Bridge. This could be
considered quite an eye catching
image, plus the use of putting many
little features from around Bristol
could help attract the public as they
may want to go see what other relating
images they can spot.
4. Example 3
In this advert for the Bath Chronicle from a
newspaper (which was also used on a bus
billboard) we can see that like example two
they also have a catchy slogan advertising
the new and improved local newspaper. The
poster features the iconic building, The
Bath Abbey, in the bottom half of the page
which instantly reflects locality. The image
also features an image of a mother, father
and their child jumping over the bath
Abbey. This could relate to people and show
them that the product they’ve made is
created for the public to enjoy and find out
more about their local area. This poster also
features an advertisement in the bottom
left showing that people can win an iPad if
they purchase the newspaper which could
aid in boosting the selling of this
5. Overall Analysis
In these examples, plus other billboard adverts (not just from newspapers)
there tends to be a very minimalist theme. They often feature a main focus of
the poster which can be a person, like in example one, or something they have
designed. They tend to use an eye catching or edgy image to get the publics
attention which will then be supported by slogans and other text plus a small
image of their product in one of the bottom corners. There is rarely large
amounts of text used as this can often put people off as reading a large chunk
of text whilst out and about is not necessarily appealing. More often than not
the company would have made themselves a slogan to use, e.g. in the Bath
Chronicles poster it is ‘it’s bright, it’s bold, it’s bath.’ this catchy slogan with
the use of alliteration helps draw in peoples attention. After doing this
research I have decided when making this ancillary task it will feature a large
eye catching image that relates to the news paper, plus a catchy slogan to
quickly inform people what it is about in a fun way that looks realistic.
