How to enhance the effectiveness of
teaching learning Mathematics?

# 1 Communication
Communication between students and teachers play a key role in improving
learning. Clear cut instructions help students understand better.
Examples of miscommunication
● This is x- axis.
● Put this here.
● These two sides are equal.
● This angle is small.
● Write 2 upon 3x.
Teacher has taught means
students have understood.
What do you say?
Tip 1- Use complete sentences while speaking.
● Horizontal line X’OX is the x- axis.
● Vertical line YOY’ is the y- axis.
Sentences like this angle is small, these two sides are equal creates confusion.
Example- while using isosceles triangle property of a triangle in solving
questions, statement used by the teacher-Two sides are equal so two angles
will be equal.
Correct statement is In an isosceles triangle angles opposite to equal
sides are equal.
Suggestion: Speak the names of angles, sides while dealing with
geometrical figures.
Example Write 3x plus 2 upon x plus 3

orientations. Use different names.

of terms

● Two more

Students often find difficulty in comprehending word problems.
Tip 4: Let students frame word
problems.
● Divide students in groups and let each group frame a question. Role of the
teacher would be to facilitate learning as per the desired goals.

Children do every calculation by writing.
Examples- 8.9 x 100
Child writes the steps.
Tip 5: Promote mental calculations
● Prepare warm ups
● 1 minute quizzes
● You ask we will tell
# Pre notions
● This is a difficult topic.
● It has so many word problems.
Tip 6: Let students appreciate the
topic
● Start a lesson with an energiser.
● Connect with surrounding.
● Involve students in their learning.

Tip7: Let students do correction work.
● Find the error worksheets prove beneficial for rectifying errors.
#Dealing with different topics
● How many points are possible to draw at a distance of 3 units from the
origin ? Will you get any specific geometrical shape by doing this ?
When teacher asked such questions children often do mistake.
They consider only positive direction of x and y axis.
Tip 8: In depth clarity of new concepts
● Use blended strategies to explain different topics.
