2. Mark 1:14-20 (ESV)
Now after John was arrested, Jesus came into
Galilee, proclaiming the gospel of God, and
saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom
of God is at hand; repent and believe in the
gospel.” Passing alongside the Sea of Galilee,
he saw Simon and Andrew the brother of
Simon casting a net into the sea, for they were
fishermen. And Jesus said to them, “Follow
me, and I will make you become fishers of
men.”
3. Mark 1:14-20 (ESV)
And immediately they left their nets and
followed him. And going on a little farther, he
saw James the son of Zebedee and John his
brother, who were in their boat mending the
nets. And immediately he called them, and
they left their father Zebedee in the boat with
the hired servants and followed him.

Rom 3:23 (NLT) For everyone has sinned; we all fall
short of God's glorious standard.

Lord.

8. One Lifestyle
Mark 1:17-20 (NLT) Jesus called out to
them, "Come, follow Me, and I will show
you how to fish for people!” And they left
their nets at once and followed Him. A little
farther up the shore Jesus saw Zebedee's
sons, James and John, in a boat repairing
their nets. He called them at once, and they
also followed Him, leaving their father,
Zebedee, in the boat with the hired men.
Editor's Notes
Teaser:
We all have one basic problem and that is that we are sinners. There is only one solution to this problem and that is believing in Jesus and becoming His followers.
Quotes: Because we are sinners we do not have an action only problem, which then can be solved by action only.
“Our salvation should effect and infect our lifestyle radically and permanently”
The Problem:
All of humanity have two legitimate needs designed by God, the need for:
Acceptance - Love
Significance – Purpose
Meeting these legitimate needs in an illegitimate way opens our lives to idolatry, which is defined as: a temporary imperfect substitute that makes us to love and obey something else above God. Sin is not so much what we do wrong but rather believing and obeying wrong. We don’t have an action only problem, which then can be solved by action only. The quick natural answer to a “action only” problem is either religion (Self-protect) or rebellion (Self-Save) projects. We have a natural inherent default believe system that needs to be transformed.
Example:
We are not sinners because we sin, we sin because we are sinners. Nature predicts action. A Dog barks because it is a Dog and not the other way around. The problem with the human race is not only what we do wrong, but that we are wrong in nature without God and nothing we do will save us, we are all in need of a Saviour. Overcoming sin is not difficult, its is impossible, we need outside intervention to bring about an inside transformation before we will see outside action and habits change.
All religion give us a false sense of hope that your actions and works adds to your acceptance and significance and when our self effort and self saving projects (Religion) does not work then we swing over to self-protect (Rebellion) This pendulum effect can continue for the rest of your life and we end up in despair.
The gospel of Christ meets both these two needs, and we need to understand and present in in that way. 1st the Gospel brings the bad news that we all have sinned and are in need of Christ the Saviour, no amount of good works or self effort will be able to save us. The only way to be saved is to realise that I am a sinner and put our faith in Christ to save us. This initiate by God grace and sovereign intervention a re-birth to take place not only forgiving us our past sin, but transforming our inner man/nature to become like God.
The 2nd part of the gospel that is mostly misunderstood and not proclaimed in the same priority as part of the gospel is the continual salvation of our souls not unto re-birth but a daily process of sanctification of our will, intellect and emotions, the Soul. So the gospel is the good news in Christ that our sins are forgiven – ACCEPTANCE and that God has a plan for us – PURPOSE (Significance) as we allow Him to keep on renewing through sanctification we will enjoy an increasing satisfaction and fulfilment of hearing, understanding and walking in His perfect will and plans
Repent – accept God’s word and truth as the absolute standard
Be willing to turn away from sin to God, from disobedience to obedience and from rebellion and religion to relationship with Him
If we put our faith in God, receive Him as Lord and savior, we are given the right by God to become and be called Children of God

Finally If our salvation should effect and infect our lifestyle radically and permanently. This lifestyle can be summarised by three key descriptions:
Follow Christ
The Gospel of Salvation is a call to Follow Christ – meaning a continual internal desire to become like Him in character, attitude and fruit
Fish for People
The Gospel is a compelling love lifestyle expressed in the way we become a fisher of men, allowing a change of values and priorities that result in valuing the free gift of salvation so much that we feel the love obligation to share it with others.
Fellowship with believers:
Jesus not only called them to himself but he called them to one another into community, He called different individuals to come together to follow Him with the intentional purpose and understanding that they and we need each other if at all we desire to follow Jesus and fish for people effectively.
God is a relational God and does everything in, through and for relationships, its not an individualistic Gospel, it's a Kingdom family relationships, community gospel.
