2. •Since 1915, the American Humane Association’s Be Kind to Animals Week
(BKTA) has recognized the special role animals play in our lives. Taking place
every year in early May, BKTA Week is a unique opportunity to promote the
humane treatment of animals and to encourage children and adults of all ages
to do the same.
3. •There are a number of ways to celebrate and get involved in BKTA Week this
year. If you are looking for a new pet, you might consider adopting one from
your local animal shelter or rescue group. You could also commitment to
reporting signs of animal cruelty or abuse you may have noticed in your
neighborhood. One of the simplest ways to get into the spirit of BKTA Week is
the closest to home: take care of and appreciate your own pets by making sure
they are healthy and safe, up to date with vaccinations, and wearing proper
identification.
