Em ily Brow n is an exper t at turning adversity into
oppor tun ity. She is CEO and Co- Founder of Food
Equa lity Initiative, Inc.(FEI), a Kansas nonprofit
fou nded in 2014 to address disparities in access
to a llergy friendly foods. Under her leadership, FEI
es tablished the nation’s first a llergy friendly food
pa ntry, ReN ewed Hea lth in Overland Park, Kansas. In
it ’s first year of operation, ReNewed Hea lth Pantry
dis t ributed over 12,000 pounds of hea lthy gluten free
a nd a llergy friendly foods to families diagnosed with
food a llergies and Celiac disease with financia l need.
F EI opened its second pantry, CAC-SAFE in Missouri
in J u ly of 2016.
Not wantin g her effor ts to simply be a “band aid” to an increasingly
w idespread hea lth issue, Emily works to increase education, policy cha n ge
a nd civic engagement to create rea l systemic change in the fight again s t
access to safe and hea lthy food. An accidenta l advocate and emergin g
t hought leader, Emily’s presentations are full of passion, resilience, an d
in s piration.
Ac t i ve in h er community, Emily regularly par ticipates in the Greater KC
Food Policy Coa lition. is a founding board member of Children’s Mercy
Hos pita l’s Food Allergy Family Patient Advisory Board (FAFPAB), and a Pa re nt
Representative of the Wyandotte County Early Childhood Interagency Coun cil’s
Executive Committee.
Em ily resides in Kansas City with her family where she enjoys, gardenin g,
cook in g with love, and reading a good book.
