2. How does your media product
represent particular social
groups?
Victim (Carmella Lowkis)
Tatum Riley (Rose
McGowan) Scream 2
3. Similarities
• The characters both share some similarities in terms of their
age group, gender and role in their films.
• They are both teenager girls who are brutally murdered at the
hands of a serial killer.
• Both have relatively minor roles and their death is their only
big contribution to the films plot
4. Differences
• The victim in my opening sequence has no dialogue and
therefore there is very little insight into her shown during her
appearance. Tatum on the other hand is shown to have fiery
personality which is shown through her mocking of the killer
before she realises his true intentions.
• Unlike a lot of typical horror victims Tatum doesn’t prove to be
completely helpless as she does manage to fight back and
injury her murderer unlike my films character who simply runs
(although this may be a reasonable response given that her
killer is of supernatural origin).
• In terms of costume Tatum dresses in a much more girly and
revealing manner (bright colours, short skirt) characteristic of
an American teenager. The victim in my film is dressed much
more casually (hoodie, jeans, trainers) more typical of a British
teenager.
