The Crucible By William Shakespeare
singer of this song and Abigail both share the same type of jealousy due to love.
March of the Witch Hunters
This song is about the citizens of the Emerald City accusing a character of being a witch. They
blame all of their problems on her, even though she did nothing wrong. This character is not actually
a witch, but she is falsely accused by the other characters who eventually set out to kill her. In The
Crucible, there were many accusations towards the people of Salem of being a witch or wizard.
None of them were true because witches and wizards are not real and therefore, all the accused
people, were innocent. They share the same relationship as the victim of this song.
I will always love you
This song is about how the singer will always love another character no matter what they put them
through. In The Crucible, Abigail displays this same trait when she protects her husband John
Proctor by lying to the court on his behalf even though she knows he has cheated on her in the past.
Notes
This song is about one man who writes letters to the opera expressing his views on how an opera
should be run. The entire opera disagrees with him and as a result, he seems like the bad guy. In The
Crucible, John Proctor opposes the church's belief of the existence of witches and wizards, but
because more people sided with the church, John Proctor looked like the bad guy and that costed
him his life.
Who am I?
This song is about a man (Jean Valjean AKA Prisoner 24601) who confesses to the

The Emotions of Captivity in Psalm 137 Essay
The book of Psalms contains some of the most beloved pieces of scripture across centuries and
cultures of this world. Psalms have been frequently cited is sermons, devotionals, movies, poetry,
and songs. Most often, Psalms are attributed to King David of the 10th century BCE. But regardless
of the authorship of the different psalms, each seem to carry a special place in describing human
relationships to God, to country, to friends, to enemies and more. As time has progressed, certain
psalms have become favorites because of their encouraging and uplifting messages, such as the
timeless Psalm 23. However, other psalms are neglected in Christian circles because of the difficulty
they present in interpretation. Often, these psalms are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For there our captors demanded of us songs, And our tormentors mirth, saying, "Sing us one of the
songs of Zion." How can we sing the Lord's song in a foreign land? If I forget you, O Jerusalem,
May my right hand forget her skill. May my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth. If I do not
remember you, if I do not exalt Jerusalem, above my chief joy. Remember, O Lord, against the sons
of Edom the day of Jerusalem, who said, "Raze it, raze it, to its very foundation." O daughter of
Babylon, you devastated one, how blessed will be the one who repays you with the recompense with
which you have repaid us. How blessed will be the one who seizes and dashes your little ones
against the rock. (Ps 137, NASB) It is not often that theologians can agree upon the date of
authorship of a text, but Psalm 137 is an exception. It is widely accepted that this psalm was written
during or shortly after the exilic waves of the Southern Kingdom during the Babylonian captivity of
597 BCE and 587 BCE , extending to 538 BCE . While no specific author is identified as the author
of Psalm 137, it certainly is not King David due to the time elapse from King David's reign and the
Babylonian Captivity. The anguish described in the beginning of the Psalm paired with the vengeful
remarks at the end of the Psalm, in addition to the reference to Babylon while the writer's heart
longs for Zion undoubtedly make this Psalm a description of the exile written during or shortly

Characters In Godspell
Godspell is a musical that is not based in any specific time, but is a brief condensed version of the
New Testament. Specifically related to the Works of Jesus and his followers while he was on earth.
The setting is up to the director to decide. In this case it is set in the highline of New York City. In
previous productions it has been based in a circus setting which can lead the actors to portray a more
sophomoric humor approach to acting. In this show most of the actors don't shy that far from that
style but they tone it down. One thing that does re occur throughout the show is a kind of double
acting. As they portray actors acting the parables. A kind of puppet acting also occurs as there will
be a narrator and actors mouthing along with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His character was determined to help these people understand the ways of God and to lead them to
heaven. His objectives came out when the script would pull lines from the Bible. However, they
would be hidden when he too would be an actor of the parables. This is to be expected as his
character is then not meant to draw away from the story itself. His objective is cliche only from the
standpoint of he is a teacher so obviously his objective is to teach and reach out to the lives of
others. There is not a way to break that however because he is Jesus, and that is what his purpose
actually was while he was on earth. His actions would always keep the other characters in check. As
if he was a teacher keeping his class in check. Ultimately the character gives himself up as a
sacrifice and dies. However the actions of this show portray it that he accepts that he is going to be
killed and there isn't anything he can do about it. There is no clear actions that gives the audience
faith that he could actually stop this from happening to himself. The entire cast has a strong
chemistry. And is needed in this show as there are many cases where there are simultaneous things
going on that require actions to line up with lines of others. He does not exactly keep the cast
together like his character probably should but he does specifically lead the character of Judas in the
song "All for the Best." He has very clearly mastered the choreography

Pippin The Musical
Earlier this year I was able to take part in a local production of Pippin the Musical, by the South
Coast Coral and Arts Society (SCCAS). SCCAS has been performing in Victor Harbor for over 60
years and have produced many memorable productions, such as the Wizard of Oz, The Sound of
Music, Jesus Christ Superstar, and most recently My Fair Lady where I had the pleasure of playing
Freddy Eynsford–Hill the main love interest. Winning many local awards and a few state awards
SCCAS has proved that they are ready to step up into more complex and dynamic productions.

To illustrate, when the emcee speaks, the light is focused on his face and that light follows him
around as he maneuvers about the stage. When the characters were dancing, the lights become
brighter and some scenes displayed disco lights. The lighting affected the mood because when a
melancholy scene was presented, the lights would be dim. On the contrary, when there was a
jubilant moment, there were flashing lights and it created a very joyful environment. Sometimes,
only a certain part of the stage was illuminated, so that the focus would be in that area. This is seen
when the emcee, played by Billy Marengo was on the stairs singing the light was only shined on
him, even though there were Kit Kat girls on the stage too. The colors of the lights that represented
the Kit Kat Klub were mostly blue and purple as this gave a vibrant nightclub

Bowling Green State University Program Analysis
The President's Leadership Academy at Bowling Green State University is a program that is made
up of a diverse group of the strongest students at BGSU, who all have a passion towards helping
others. The diversity of this group allows students in the PLA to reach all corners of the University.
This far reaching inclusivity makes a large university feel more like home and a close knit
community. The scholars in the PLA program also show strong leadership abilities and a drive to
create a better place for everyone at BGSU and beyond. Through their leadership skills and their
drive to help others PLA scholars make BGSU the home away from home for everyone.
I am interested in being a PLA scholar because I have a devotion towards working with other
people. My first job, at the age of 14, was working in a retirement home. I worked there for over two
years serving the residents in their dining hall, I was made a shift leader just six months into my
employment. My favorite part of the job was making the men and women living in the retirement
home smile. Another interest I have is stepping up and volunteering, I have volunteered with the
theatre department at my high school the most. We have a number of service projects, including
serving at soup kitchens, and stocking personal hygiene items at shower houses in the greater
Cincinnati area. My favorite role to be in, in any aspect of my life is as a leader. This is where I feel
the strongest and most comfortable. My leadership roles have been in ... Show more content on

The, Feral Beast Who Lives Of A Hill
"Sidehill Gallagher" feral beast who lives in a hill, or a slur used against Irish in 1930's New York?
Either way, what happends when a Gallagher starts to date the Dean's daughter? My Uncle John, my
father's older brother, and my Aunt Thellen have been married together for thirty–five coming up on
thirty–six years. However, they were not always together and they did not always know one another.
When my Uncle first met his wife it was their freshman year of college. They were on a retreat in a
state park, it was just a small group over a weekend. They knew who each other was, but other than
their first impressions they were strangers. His first impression of her was that she was a very pretty

They hung out over the summer and bonded even more. They joined "The Traveling" a singer

while longer to figure out he no longer wanted to do that. "I didn't want an excuse to see her, that's
when I thought I was dating that gal." That was when they started to date, in the spring of 1976.
Thel liked him because, "when John talked to you he talked to you, he asked me what I felt and why.
I had to teach him how to small talk." Since thirty–nine years is a bit far to remember every detail,
John believes that his first actual date with Thel was to a dance. He took her to a dance at a barn,
"the music playing was '70s stuff ya know...romantic stuff." John felt at peace with the world that
night dancing with Thel. He said he was, "so delirious I could fall asleep on my feet, just wrapped

well. When you love someone you try to keep the relationship moving forward, less it stop and die.
So naturally the next step for them to take was the meeting of the parents.

Music Is An Identifying Characteristic Of Film And Television
Music is an identifying characteristic of film and television; everyone who has been exposed to
popular culture knows the theme for Star Wars and The Simpsons, even if they have never seen the
movie or show. Disney movies are no exception, and this is largely due to the genius creative mind
of Alan Menken. Menken is best known for composing the scores for some of the most beloved
Disney classics, including Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Hercules,
Pocahontas, and Tangled. He also made his mark composing for highly acclaimed Broadway
musicals, including Little Shop of Horrors and Newsies, as well as the stage adaptations of some of
his Disney hits. The familiar songs composed by Menken are permanently ingrained in our minds
and are largely responsible for the success of the films and theatrical works he was associated with.
Alan Menken was born on July 22nd, 1949 in New York City. He grew up in New Rochelle, New
York with his sisters, Faye and Leah. Menken's family was heavily involved in the performing arts,
setting the stage for his career at a young age. His mother, Judy Menken, was an aspiring actress and
playwright; his father, Norman Menken was a dentist but played boogie–woogie and show tunes on
the piano as a hobby. Alan Menken aspired to be a composer from a young age, but the men in his
family typically became dentists and he felt that he was expected to continue this tradition.
However, he did learn to play the piano, violin, and guitar as he

Analysis Of Nel Cor Pi Non Mi Sento
"Nel cor più non mi sento" by Giovanni Paisiello The composer of "Nel cor più non mi sento" is
Giovanni Paisiello, an Italian opera composer born in 1740. Giovanni's musical talent was
discovered when his singing ability was revealed while at school. As a result, Giovanni was sent to
the Conservatory of Dan Onofrio at Naples. While in school, he composed multiple intermezzi,
which garnered enough attention to grant him the opportunity to write two operas. Giovanni's career
advanced from there, spending time composing in Russia, and Vienna before returning to Naples; he
also had a spent a short amount of time in Paris. Ultimately, over eighty different operas are credited
to Paisiello as well as many smaller works. This particular song, "Nel cor più non mi sento" comes
from his 1788 opera L'amor constrastato, more commonly known as La Molinara. In this comedy
opera, three men (Don Calloandro, Don Rospolone, and Pistofolo) fall for mill owner Rachelina.
Issues arise since Calloandro is set to marry his cousin Eugenia, and both Calloandro and Rospolone
reveal their affection for Rachelina to Pistofolo. Within the opera, "Nel cor..." is sung by Rachelina
with a second verse by Don Colloandro as Rachelina is working in the morning. "I'm Not that Girl"

William Shakespeare 's Romeo And Juliet Essay
Opening on September 19th, 2013 and closing on December 8th, 2013, Romeo and Juliet,
performed at The Richard Rodgers Theatre, was nothing short of impactful. Under the direction of
David Leveaux, Romeo and Juliet ran for a total of 93 performances. The Design team includes
artists Jesse Poleshuck, Fabio Toblini, David Weiner, and David Van Tieghem; These famous artists
only add to the star power leading man, Orlando Bloom, brings to the production. Produced by
James L. Nederlander, Terry Allen Kramer, Merritt Forrest Baer, Paula Marie Black, Stephen C.
Byrd, Alia Jones Harvey, Jon B. Platt, Stewart F. Lane and Bonnie Comley, this production is not
short of funding. However, the show did not gross as much as expected; Falling flat in the box office
after an initial spike, the shows' earnings continued to fall (Playbill). The 2013 revival of Romeo and
Juliet is significant because it tells the story of a love that goes beyond race and stature–it takes a
timeless story, and adds a contemporary spin. David Leveaux, a Five–time Tony–nominated
Director, leads the cast of Romeo and Juliet (Playbill.com). Inspired by cinema, Leveaux's take on
the classic tale is nothing short of a spectacle. Set in present day, the audience cannot ignore the
similarities to the 1996 film directed by Baz Luhrmann (Brantley). Through scenic elements, such as
fire, graffiti, and bells, Leveaux creates a drastic environment which balances a drastic story.

The Side Show Analysis
The movie Parable perplexed me about the meaning behind it at first. I knew the mime riding on the
donkey was supposed to depict Jesus, but I did not understand what the mime was doing in each of
the episodes. The episode where the mime helps the Roustabout carry the buckets of water up the
hill to the elephants was confusing to me. The dunk tank scene was also very confusing to me, as
well as the side show and the puppets. The only scenes I understood from the beginning was when
the mime was hung in the harness and when Magnus disguised himself as Jesus. I understood that
the mime hanging in the harness was suppose to relate to the crucifixion. I also understood that
Magnus disguising himself as Jesus is like evil disguising as good. ... Show more content on

I learned that the episode where the mime helps the Roustabout is supposed to show Jesus helping
those in need and lifting a burden. The mime lifted the Roustabout's burdens by carrying the heavy
buckets of water up the steep hill. I later understood after the class discussion that the dunk tank
scene is meant to show targeting those who are different, bullying, and racism. The man throwing
the balls targeted the black man in a form of racism. The Side Show episode later became clear to
me after the discussion. This episode shows exploitation, which is making money from someone
else's misfortune or taking advantage of people. The Side Show charged people money to get in and
watch the magician place knives into the box which his assistant was in. The Puppets episode later
became clear to me after the discussion, also. This episode shows the audience of the circus leaving
as the mime placed himself in the harness just like Jesus' followers left. I later understood that the
man on the donkey riding along the road at the beginning but off the road at the end is supposed to
tell you to not get sidetracked by following the wrong path, hence the man riding on a different path
than everyone else.
The movie Parable can be explained by watching it while listening to the Godspell music. The song
"Turn Back, O Man" can explain Magnus, who is the power of evil, waking up to turn

A Comparison Of The Tanach And Bible
A Comparison of the Tanach and Bible
Each religion has a sacred text which is used to understand their worldview and their religion better.
A sacred text is what a religion believes is holy and authoritative. Religious texts show its followers
what to do in worship, daily living and conduct. While Christianity and Judaism have numerous
similarities because of the mother–daughter link, differences still exist. The sacred text for Judaism
is the Tanach while for Christianity the Bible is used. This essay will explore the structure of each
sacred text, the type of literature is in each canon, authorship of the text and how it is used in daily
practice such as food, interpretation of the commandments and how a Torah is used in a synagogue.
STRUCTURE OF EACH CANON
The Bible is known as 'authoritative written source' (Bowley, 1999) and is a library of 66 books and
is made of two parts: Old Testament (39 books) and New Testament (27 books). The Bible was only
officially put together around the third century. The Old Testament was written in Hebrew and
Aramaic while the New Testament was written in Greek. During the Reformation, scholars wanted
to allow everyone to read the Bible in their own languages (Beck et al, 2000). Now, the Bible is
written in over 1600 languages. However, Jewish people only read the Torah in Hebrew. The Old
Testament is similar to the Torah where the books are exactly the same.
The New Testament is made up of the gospels and letters. The word

Theatre: A Brief History Of Broadway Theatre
Broadway is famously known for its forty theaters and the major productions that it puts on.
Broadway was created in the early 17th century by the Dutch. Since that time Broadway has grown

My High School Experience In My Middle School
As I exited middle school, it wasn't a smooth transition. In fact, it was more like the ending scene
from Titanic when everyone is jumping ship, hoping that they wouldn't die. Of course, I'm over
exaggerating, but it felt exactly like that. I was Rose, a young Kate Winslet, clinging to a unhinged
door floating out to sea, praying for the best. I hoped, even prayed that high school would be better
than my middle school experience. That it would be better than getting beat up into corners and
getting called gay slurs. Now I don't want to write this essay, and have you feel bad for me. I'm
completely fine. I transferred my self hate into eating chocolate covered almonds and peanut butter.
I'm happy with myself, and that's all because of one experience from high school that changed my
life. Imagine me, a freshman in high school, walking to my third period for acting class. I kind of
resembled a mixture of Napoleon Dynamite and Patrick Star. I was so excited to finally do some
theatre. My middle school did not have a theatre department, so all the shows I did were community
run performances. I knew the drama department teacher personally before entering high school, and
he seemed incredibly nice and welcoming. This teacher was my third period, and I couldn't wait to
start class with him. Before I continue the story, I need to preface something. In television and
movies, there's always that one teacher that changes your life. For example, look at Glee. Mr.

Every single member of the cast kept spirits high, which in turn helped drive the show along. They,
also, did a marvelous job of keeping the "illusion of the first time", portraying a clear pantomime to
the audience through nonverbal communication, and good inflection and volume. A good example
of this would be with actress, Katelyn Maudlin, throughout the performance she displayed high
spirits through her use of inflection and volume, all while keeping an "illusion of the first time".
Another actor who did a marvelous job was Ben Elliot, who played John the Baptist/Judas,
throughout the production you could see the development of his characters ideas and mentality on
subjects being discussed. For instance, while singing "On the Willows", Ben reached a moment at
the end of the song where he let his voice fall into a slight sob. I don't know if this was intending or
he used this accident for this intended use, either way this was most effective in revealing his stance
on the crucifixion of Jesus. All of these aspects of their acting, as a whole, helped keep the show
alive and interesting to the audience. However, some aspects of their acting lacked in a sense that
threatened such effectiveness, yet did not destroy the show altogether. Scene stealing, bad diction
and articulation were identifiable in the performance. Scene stealing was a major negative element
that I saw, not only in some of the chorus, but with some of the principle characters when it was not
their main part. Though some of this scene stealing could be due to an unequal balance of
enthusiasm, thus diverting attention onto the most enthusiastic actors and actresses, it was relevant
enough to distract the audience from what they should have been focusing on. Overall, The actors
and actresses of Godspell did a wonderful job and kept the audience's interest and made them

Theatre Application Essay
"Oh God, I'm bleeding!" There I stood, being crucified while hanging from a light rack at the end of
the play. When I was on stage that night, singing and making the audience believe all the pain felt
real, I demonstrated the greatest talent I am known to have: acting. My skill peaked at the time I
took part in my high school's musical, Godspell, and I played the main role: Jesus. I started acting
officially my freshman year. I felt like an outcast in school, and since I thought the theatre program
was meant for "weird" people, I decided to audition for a play. The basis of my talent started with
The Merchant of Venice by William Shakespeare, where I learned that there is more to acting than
memorizing lines. Going into my sophomore year, I took part in The Seagull by Anton Chekov. My
theatre director took me through a long acting exercise called The Meisner technique that challenged
me to connect emotionally with other actors. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This significantly affected my skill level because I had to put together everything I had learned the
past year about acting into one week.
Theatre challenged me the most junior year. The first play that year was The Curious Savage by
John Patrick. The role I played helped me develop the skill to act as an antagonist different from the
comedic characters I had portrayed in the past.
Last but not least: Godspell by Stephen Schwartz. The first musical that my school produced in a
long time helped me demonstrate everything I learned and more! I had to memorize the most lines,
emotionally connect with everyone in the cast, and show that I had a harsh side even though I was
the protagonist.
For the past three years, I have developed an acting skill through dedication and perseverance.
Although I am not a theatre major, acting and theatre is where I found my best friends and who I

What Made Up Theater During The Middle Ages
"There is that smaller world which is the stage, and that larger stage which is the world," –Isacc
Goldberg. These are important words, because theater is valued in our world today, and was
especially important during the Middle Ages. The church was the main source of order and security
during this time. Going to heaven was the only thing the people really lived for because they had
nothing else. Theater was one of the few things the people of this time could find entertainment in.
Theater helped the people escape from the unexciting and rough world they lived in, and allowed
them to be placed in an exciting new world. There were many different types of plays during the
Middle Ages: traveling performers, liturgical dramas, vernacular plays, cycle plays, and morality
plays. All of these made up theater during the Middle Ages, and helped it to grow and change into
what it is today. The Middle Ages, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These plays took place in Middle Ages between 1200–1350. Miracle plays were one type of
vernacular drama. They had the same concept of liturgical plays, but were more focused on the
saints. Mystery plays were also a type of vernacular drama, and were very close to liturgical plays.
These plays were usually acted by churchmen ("Vernacular"). As the church's control over the plays
decreased, cycle plays came in. Cycle productions were made up of several short plays. Unlike
liturgical drama, these plays did not have to be religious. Depending on the type, cycle productions
could be relatively short, or they could take days to finish. Three hundred actors were not unusual
for these plays (Robinson). Just like with other parts of society during the Middle Ages, women
were not in theater. All of these plays were impacted or controlled by the church. The plays were
always reviewed by the church, and they could disapprove a production. The churches' impact on
theater declined the most in the 14th

The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams
The Universe is a mystery and our origins as a species are slowly unrevealing, however we are still
wondering how exactly we got here. Douglas Adams address this very question in his science–
fiction novel "Hitchhiker's Guide to The Galaxy". A story about a human named Author who, after
witnessing the destruction of Earth, hitchhikes several rides throughout the Universe. Discovering
new worlds and conversing with several alien species with his longtime friend Ford, who Author
recently discovered was also an alien. Douglas Adams is highly known for his observational humor
and satire in his writings. His parody of politics, social commentary and references of pop–culture
are a constant, especially in "Hitchhiker's Guide to The Galaxy". More often than Adam's humor in
"Hitchhiker's Guide to The Galaxy" is the theme of travel in the Universe and space exploration. A
task man has only scratched the surface of but are slowly overcoming every day. While Douglas
Adams may be a science fiction writer not all of what he writes is fiction. There is truth to his work.
I plan to discover how Adams expresses space travel in "Hitchhiker's Guide to The Galaxy" in both
scientific and science fiction aspects, and how has the science fiction genre changed our
understanding and perception of the universe.
Ever since the great space race of the twentieth century, space travel has been a prime objective of
The United States. It was more centered on the political struggles of the United States

Musical Theater History
Scotia Corley
6/17/16
Here is the history behind musical theater. The art of telling stories either through or with songs and
music dates back far in time. We know that ancient Greeks included music and dance in their stages
of comedy and tragedies as early as the 5th century B.C. We know that Aeschylus and Sophocles
composed their own music during that time while Athenian playwrights may have interpolated
existing songs. Roman actors attached metal chips called "sabilla" to their stage footwear; which
became the first tap shoes. In the 12th and 13th centuries, during the Middle Age, there was also a
tradition of religious dramas, such as The Play of Herod and The Play of Daniel. Intended as
liturgical teaching tools set to church chants, these plays developed into an autonomous form of
musical theatre. By the 1700s, musical theater has made an huge impact on France, Great Britain,
and Germany. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some musicals have gone onto Broadway in New York. For instance, Legally Blonde, Lion King,
and Titanic. Other musicals have been made into films. Such as Wizard of Oz, Guys and Dolls, and
Godspell. And a lot of musicals from the 1900s till now has so many performances and has grown
very popular throughout the years. Since 2000, the all–American musical comedy has made a
stunning comeback. With the triumph of The Full Monty, The Producers, Urinetown, Thoroughly
Modern Hairspray, critics and audiences have re–embraced a genre that many had suspected to be
dead. Musicals have been inspired by movies for decades, but not with such concentrated success.
These musical comedies show tremendous promise, offering a happy blend of nostalgic pastiche and
original spoof. They have also turned long–empty hopes into filled theater

The Progression from spirituals to "Black" Gospel Music
Many people would refer to gospel music as religious songs or songs regarding to life as a Christian.
Gospel music varies, which gives an alternative to Christian music with a mix of secular music.
With it being many styles of Christian music, the performance, the lyrics, instruments and the
formation, gives gospel music different meanings. To most, gospel is simply thanks and praise and
worship to the Lord. The establishment of gospel goes way back with European and African roots.
The first known use of "gospel" was in 1874 when a European songwriter named Philip P. Bliss
titled a songbook as "Gospel Songs. Tribal African music was highly different than European music
in major ways. Europeans ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
"Dorsey is responsible for discovering and nurturing the career of the world's first gospel superstar,
Mahalia Jackson" (Ayubu 11). Mahalia Jackson, known as the "Queen of Gospel" was the first
famous gospel singer. "According to Dorsey, she asked him to coach her, and for two months they
worked together on technique and repertoire. They would tour together in the 1940s" (TMCod).
Mahalia wanted to sing gospel and who was better to help her with this? Mahalia describes gospel
music as "The blues are songs of despair, but gospel songs are the songs of hope" ("Make a Joyful
Noise: The Spread of Gospel Music"). Not only did he create the first famous gospel singer, but also
the first gospel choir and choruses. Thomas Dorsey made the first black gospel publishing company
called Dorsey's House of Music founded his own gospel choir and was the founder and was also the
first president of the National convention of Gospel Choir and Choruses. "Dorsey had a fellow blues
musician that helped him with his publishing business, which became so successful that people
nationwide called any piece of gospel sheet music a "Dorsey" (TMCod). One of Dorsey's friend's
decided to help him to publish and Dorsey was so unique people named sheet music after him.

Debbie Reynolds 'GP Relevance Of Biographies'
GP Relevance of Biographies In what ways has the work of either artists, musicians, and/or writers
influenced your life? Many believe that it's lame to be a part of the Performing Arts. What most of
those people don't understand is that their favorite actors/actresses were a part of theatre or band
when they were in high school. Personally, many performers have affected my life tremendously
and many other lives as well. They give us hope that someday we will be in their shoes and living
the life we've always dreamed. Debbie Reynolds, Martin Short, Ellen Degeneras and Audrey
Hepburn are perfect examples of people who worked super hard to make their dreams come true.
These days it's very hard to imagine yourself getting a part because of all of the people who are
newly interested in singing and acting but these famous people show that you should never give up
no matter what. First, an amazing actress who inspired many is Debbie Reynolds. Debbie Reynolds
has affected my life by the fact that she had a huge career in Musical Theatre. My life long dream is
to be on Broadway and do what I love, which is to be in shows. Debbie Reynolds has starred in so
many classic movies as well, such as "Singin' ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

known for those two things. She's very important to me because I feel as if I don't look like the other

well known for playing the lead role as Gigi in the Broadway production "Gigi". She taught me to

Mythology In Mythology
Judging from the sources on the internet (unfortunately, one of them does include wikipedia) and the
snippets I watched of the PBS documentary series that the book The Power of Myth is a companion
for, one of Joseph's Campbell's most foundational ideas is that mythology is one of the primary
sources of a given generation's cultural values, and it is a mechanism used to teach lessons or values
to those young or new to a society. This thesis on mythology can be adapted to modern movies on
Jesus because these movies contain unique alterations and "spins" on the religious stories on Jesus.
In Godspell, the movie's use of a New York setting and a young, diverse cast translate the ministry
of Jesus to the capitalism and peace struggle of the 1970s, and in Jesus Christ Superstar, the movie's
young cast and secular–themed songs translate the existence of Jesus to a generation becoming more
and more scientific. As a result, Godspell remythologizes the ministry of Jesus to reflect and teach
peace and deviation from the status quo, and Jesus Christ Superstar remythologizes Jesus as a figure
to reflect a tension in understanding Jesus in a modern technological age. Because two different
aspects of the 1970s culture is embodied in these modern Jesus myths, movies are a media used to
remythologize Jesus to fit in with each coming generation's struggles, beliefs, and culture. The
aspect of the 1970s that Godspell reflects is the conflict between peace and the status quo. During
the 1970s,

emotionally connected to Wicked for some strange reason, and I have taken the time to listen to
every song from the musical. I realize that it will be hard to learn and become my character without
actually seeing the musical so I will be taking the time to watch it before the performance. As we
were doing strike for legally blonde, I was playing the musical channel on Pandora and the song The

the scene unfold as I was listening to the song, and I felt the emotion as she sang. It did not take long

My Love Of Theatre
I have been a performer my entire life, and want to continue to impact those around me through
theater. In my life, I have not yet encountered such a raw reflection of human life and emotions. My
love of theater began at a young age, and since then I have seen how the twists and turns of plays
and musicals can deeply impact an audience. My freshman year I actually performed at my school's
brother school and played Celisse in Godspell. My sophomore year I played Mrs. Harcourt in
Anything Goes, my junior year I was the Wardrobe in Beauty and the Beast, and this year I was the
Bird Woman in Mary Poppins. My favorite performances, however, is Spring Sing, a student–run
production where classes compete for bragging rights. I have been an actor in Spring Sing since my
freshman year and my class hopes to win this year!
Being able to express myself through song, acting, and dance is a form of meditation for me. It is a
time where I am able to completely forget about my own anxieties and focus on the worries of the
character. Roles are static until you make them come alive, and that is where there is room for
creative expression.
My greatest skill is knowing how to improvise on and off stage. Being able to improvise is one of
the most important skills an actor can learn. I have been in improv club since my freshman year of
high school, and truly believe that it has helped me with my communication skills and self–
confidence. These classes teach me how to use my environment to my

Theatre: A Brief History Of Broadway Theatre
Broadway is famously known for its forty theaters and the major productions that it puts on.
Broadway was created in the early 17th century by the Dutch. Since that time Broadway has grown
in length as the city developed from a small settlement on the S tip of Manhattan Island and now
extends 27 km (17 mi) to the city's N boundary in the Bronx.
Until around 1750 New York City had yet to establish a significant theater presence. Walter Murray
and Thomas Kean, actor–managers established a resident theater company at the theater on Nassau
Street. The theater was only able to hold around 280 people. William Hallam sent twelve Britain
actors to the colonies with Lewis Hallam, his brother, as their manager. They later established a

The Crucible By William Shakespeare

  • 1. The Crucible By William Shakespeare singer of this song and Abigail both share the same type of jealousy due to love. March of the Witch Hunters This song is about the citizens of the Emerald City accusing a character of being a witch. They blame all of their problems on her, even though she did nothing wrong. This character is not actually a witch, but she is falsely accused by the other characters who eventually set out to kill her. In The Crucible, there were many accusations towards the people of Salem of being a witch or wizard. None of them were true because witches and wizards are not real and therefore, all the accused people, were innocent. They share the same relationship as the victim of this song. I will always love you This song is about how the singer will always love another character no matter what they put them through. In The Crucible, Abigail displays this same trait when she protects her husband John Proctor by lying to the court on his behalf even though she knows he has cheated on her in the past. Notes This song is about one man who writes letters to the opera expressing his views on how an opera should be run. The entire opera disagrees with him and as a result, he seems like the bad guy. In The Crucible, John Proctor opposes the church's belief of the existence of witches and wizards, but because more people sided with the church, John Proctor looked like the bad guy and that costed him his life. • 3. The Emotions of Captivity in Psalm 137 Essay The book of Psalms contains some of the most beloved pieces of scripture across centuries and cultures of this world. Psalms have been frequently cited is sermons, devotionals, movies, poetry, and songs. Most often, Psalms are attributed to King David of the 10th century BCE. But regardless of the authorship of the different psalms, each seem to carry a special place in describing human relationships to God, to country, to friends, to enemies and more. As time has progressed, certain psalms have become favorites because of their encouraging and uplifting messages, such as the timeless Psalm 23. For there our captors demanded of us songs, And our tormentors mirth, saying, "Sing us one of the songs of Zion." How can we sing the Lord's song in a foreign land? If I forget you, O Jerusalem, May my right hand forget her skill. May my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth. If I do not remember you, if I do not exalt Jerusalem, above my chief joy. Remember, O Lord, against the sons of Edom the day of Jerusalem, who said, "Raze it, raze it, to its very foundation." O daughter of Babylon, you devastated one, how blessed will be the one who repays you with the recompense with which you have repaid us. How blessed will be the one who seizes and dashes your little ones against the rock. (Ps 137, NASB) It is not often that theologians can agree upon the date of authorship of a text, but Psalm 137 is an exception. It is widely accepted that this psalm was written during or shortly after the exilic waves of the Southern Kingdom during the Babylonian captivity of 597 BCE and 587 BCE , extending to 538 BCE . While no specific author is identified as the author of Psalm 137, it certainly is not King David due to the time elapse from King David's reign and the Babylonian Captivity. The anguish described in the beginning of the Psalm paired with the vengeful remarks at the end of the Psalm, in addition to the reference to Babylon while the writer's heart longs for Zion undoubtedly make this Psalm a description of the exile written during or shortly ... Specifically related to the Works of Jesus and his followers while he was on earth. The setting is up to the director to decide. In this case it is set in the highline of New York City. In previous productions it has been based in a circus setting which can lead the actors to portray a more sophomoric humor approach to acting. In this show most of the actors don't shy that far from that style but they tone it down. One thing that does re occur throughout the show is a kind of double acting. As they portray actors acting the parables. A kind of puppet acting also occurs as there will be a narrator and actors mouthing along with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His character was determined to help these people understand the ways of God and to lead them to heaven. His objectives came out when the script would pull lines from the Bible. However, they would be hidden when he too would be an actor of the parables. This is to be expected as his character is then not meant to draw away from the story itself. His objective is cliche only from the standpoint of he is a teacher so obviously his objective is to teach and reach out to the lives of others. There is not a way to break that however because he is Jesus, and that is what his purpose actually was while he was on earth. His actions would always keep the other characters in check. As if he was a teacher keeping his class in check. Ultimately the character gives himself up as a sacrifice and dies. However the actions of this show portray it that he accepts that he is going to be killed and there isn't anything he can do about it. There is no clear actions that gives the audience faith that he could actually stop this from happening to himself. The entire cast has a strong chemistry. And is needed in this show as there are many cases where there are simultaneous things going on that require actions to line up with lines of others. Music Is An Identifying Characteristic Of Film And Television Music is an identifying characteristic of film and television; everyone who has been exposed to popular culture knows the theme for Star Wars and The Simpsons, even if they have never seen the movie or show. Disney movies are no exception, and this is largely due to the genius creative mind of Alan Menken. Menken is best known for composing the scores for some of the most beloved Disney classics, including Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Hercules, Pocahontas, and Tangled. He also made his mark composing for highly acclaimed Broadway musicals, including Little Shop of Horrors and Newsies, as well as the stage adaptations of some of his Disney hits. The familiar songs composed by Menken are permanently ingrained in our minds and are largely responsible for the success of the films and theatrical works he was associated with. Alan Menken was born on July 22nd, 1949 in New York City. He grew up in New Rochelle, New York with his sisters, Faye and Leah. Menken's family was heavily involved in the performing arts, setting the stage for his career at a young age. • 17. Analysis Of Nel Cor Pi Non Mi Sento "Nel cor più non mi sento" by Giovanni Paisiello The composer of "Nel cor più non mi sento" is Giovanni Paisiello, an Italian opera composer born in 1740. Giovanni's musical talent was discovered when his singing ability was revealed while at school. As a result, Giovanni was sent to the Conservatory of Dan Onofrio at Naples. While in school, he composed multiple intermezzi, which garnered enough attention to grant him the opportunity to write two operas. Giovanni's career advanced from there, spending time composing in Russia, and Vienna before returning to Naples; he also had a spent a short amount of time in Paris. Ultimately, over eighty different operas are credited to Paisiello as well as many smaller works. This particular song, "Nel cor più non mi sento" comes from his 1788 opera L'amor constrastato, more commonly known as La Molinara. In this comedy opera, three men (Don Calloandro, Don Rospolone, and Pistofolo) fall for mill owner Rachelina. Issues arise since Calloandro is set to marry his cousin Eugenia, and both Calloandro and Rospolone reveal their affection for Rachelina to Pistofolo. Within the opera, "Nel cor..." is sung by Rachelina with a second verse by Don Colloandro as Rachelina is working in the morning. A sacred text is what a religion believes is holy and authoritative. Religious texts show its followers what to do in worship, daily living and conduct. While Christianity and Judaism have numerous similarities because of the mother–daughter link, differences still exist. The sacred text for Judaism is the Tanach while for Christianity the Bible is used. This essay will explore the structure of each sacred text, the type of literature is in each canon, authorship of the text and how it is used in daily practice such as food, interpretation of the commandments and how a Torah is used in a synagogue. They, also, did a marvelous job of keeping the "illusion of the first time", portraying a clear pantomime to the audience through nonverbal communication, and good inflection and volume. A good example of this would be with actress, Katelyn Maudlin, throughout the performance she displayed high spirits through her use of inflection and volume, all while keeping an "illusion of the first time". Another actor who did a marvelous job was Ben Elliot, who played John the Baptist/Judas, throughout the production you could see the development of his characters ideas and mentality on subjects being discussed. For instance, while singing "On the Willows", Ben reached a moment at the end of the song where he let his voice fall into a slight sob. I don't know if this was intending or he used this accident for this intended use, either way this was most effective in revealing his stance on the crucifixion of Jesus. All of these aspects of their acting, as a whole, helped keep the show alive and interesting to the audience. However, some aspects of their acting lacked in a sense that threatened such effectiveness, yet did not destroy the show altogether. Scene stealing, bad diction and articulation were identifiable in the performance. Scene stealing was a major negative element that I saw, not only in some of the chorus, but with some of the principle characters when it was not their main part. Though some of this scene stealing could be due to an unequal balance of enthusiasm, thus diverting attention onto the most enthusiastic actors and actresses, it was relevant enough to distract the audience from what they should have been focusing on. When I was on stage that night, singing and making the audience believe all the pain felt real, I demonstrated the greatest talent I am known to have: acting. My skill peaked at the time I took part in my high school's musical, Godspell, and I played the main role: Jesus. I started acting officially my freshman year. I felt like an outcast in school, and since I thought the theatre program was meant for "weird" people, I decided to audition for a play. The basis of my talent started with The Merchant of Venice by William Shakespeare, where I learned that there is more to acting than memorizing lines. Going into my sophomore year, I took part in The Seagull by Anton Chekov. My theatre director took me through a long acting exercise called The Meisner technique that challenged me to connect emotionally with other actors. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This significantly affected my skill level because I had to put together everything I had learned the past year about acting into one week. Theatre challenged me the most junior year. The first play that year was The Curious Savage by John Patrick. The role I played helped me develop the skill to act as an antagonist different from the comedic characters I had portrayed in the past. Last but not least: Godspell by Stephen Schwartz. The first musical that my school produced in a long time helped me demonstrate everything I learned and more! I had to memorize the most lines, emotionally connect with everyone in the cast, and show that I had a harsh side even though I was the protagonist. For the past three years, I have developed an acting skill through dedication and perseverance. Although I am not a theatre major, acting and theatre is where I found my best friends and who I ... • 41. What Made Up Theater During The Middle Ages "There is that smaller world which is the stage, and that larger stage which is the world," –Isacc Goldberg. These are important words, because theater is valued in our world today, and was especially important during the Middle Ages. The church was the main source of order and security during this time. Going to heaven was the only thing the people really lived for because they had nothing else. Theater was one of the few things the people of this time could find entertainment in. Theater helped the people escape from the unexciting and rough world they lived in, and allowed them to be placed in an exciting new world. There were many different types of plays during the Middle Ages: traveling performers, liturgical dramas, vernacular plays, cycle plays, and morality plays. All of these made up theater during the Middle Ages, and helped it to grow and change into what it is today. The Middle Ages, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These plays took place in Middle Ages between 1200–1350. Miracle plays were one type of vernacular drama. They had the same concept of liturgical plays, but were more focused on the saints. Mystery plays were also a type of vernacular drama, and were very close to liturgical plays. These plays were usually acted by churchmen ("Vernacular"). As the church's control over the plays decreased, cycle plays came in. Cycle productions were made up of several short plays. Unlike liturgical drama, these plays did not have to be religious. Depending on the type, cycle productions could be relatively short, or they could take days to finish. Three hundred actors were not unusual for these plays (Robinson). Just like with other parts of society during the Middle Ages, women were not in theater. All of these plays were impacted or controlled by the church. The plays were always reviewed by the church, and they could disapprove a production. The churches' impact on theater declined the most in the 14th ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Douglas Adams address this very question in his science– fiction novel "Hitchhiker's Guide to The Galaxy". A story about a human named Author who, after witnessing the destruction of Earth, hitchhikes several rides throughout the Universe. Discovering new worlds and conversing with several alien species with his longtime friend Ford, who Author recently discovered was also an alien. Douglas Adams is highly known for his observational humor and satire in his writings. His parody of politics, social commentary and references of pop–culture are a constant, especially in "Hitchhiker's Guide to The Galaxy". More often than Adam's humor in "Hitchhiker's Guide to The Galaxy" is the theme of travel in the Universe and space exploration. A task man has only scratched the surface of but are slowly overcoming every day. While Douglas Adams may be a science fiction writer not all of what he writes is fiction. There is truth to his work. I plan to discover how Adams expresses space travel in "Hitchhiker's Guide to The Galaxy" in both scientific and science fiction aspects, and how has the science fiction genre changed our understanding and perception of the universe. Ever since the great space race of the twentieth century, space travel has been a prime objective of The United States. It was more centered on the political struggles of the United States ... • 47. Musical Theater History Scotia Corley 6/17/16 Here is the history behind musical theater. The art of telling stories either through or with songs and music dates back far in time. We know that ancient Greeks included music and dance in their stages of comedy and tragedies as early as the 5th century B.C. We know that Aeschylus and Sophocles composed their own music during that time while Athenian playwrights may have interpolated existing songs. Roman actors attached metal chips called "sabilla" to their stage footwear; which became the first tap shoes. In the 12th and 13th centuries, during the Middle Age, there was also a tradition of religious dramas, such as The Play of Herod and The Play of Daniel. Intended as liturgical teaching tools set to church chants, these plays developed into an autonomous form of musical theatre. By the 1700s, musical theater has made an huge impact on France, Great Britain, and Germany. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some musicals have gone onto Broadway in New York. Many believe that it's lame to be a part of the Performing Arts. What most of those people don't understand is that their favorite actors/actresses were a part of theatre or band when they were in high school. Personally, many performers have affected my life tremendously and many other lives as well. They give us hope that someday we will be in their shoes and living the life we've always dreamed. Debbie Reynolds, Martin Short, Ellen Degeneras and Audrey Hepburn are perfect examples of people who worked super hard to make their dreams come true. These days it's very hard to imagine yourself getting a part because of all of the people who are newly interested in singing and acting but these famous people show that you should never give up no matter what. • 53. Mythology In Mythology Judging from the sources on the internet (unfortunately, one of them does include wikipedia) and the snippets I watched of the PBS documentary series that the book The Power of Myth is a companion for, one of Joseph's Campbell's most foundational ideas is that mythology is one of the primary sources of a given generation's cultural values, and it is a mechanism used to teach lessons or values to those young or new to a society. This thesis on mythology can be adapted to modern movies on Jesus because these movies contain unique alterations and "spins" on the religious stories on Jesus. In Godspell, the movie's use of a New York setting and a young, diverse cast translate the ministry of Jesus to the capitalism and peace struggle of the 1970s, and in Jesus Christ Superstar, the movie's young cast and secular–themed songs translate the existence of Jesus to a generation becoming more and more scientific. As a result, Godspell remythologizes the ministry of Jesus to reflect and teach peace and deviation from the status quo, and Jesus Christ Superstar remythologizes Jesus as a figure to reflect a tension in understanding Jesus in a modern technological age. Because two different aspects of the 1970s culture is embodied in these modern Jesus myths, movies are a media used to remythologize Jesus to fit in with each coming generation's struggles, beliefs, and culture. The aspect of the 1970s that Godspell reflects is the conflict between peace and the status quo. During the 1970s, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In my life, I have not yet encountered such a raw reflection of human life and emotions. My love of theater began at a young age, and since then I have seen how the twists and turns of plays and musicals can deeply impact an audience. My freshman year I actually performed at my school's brother school and played Celisse in Godspell. My sophomore year I played Mrs. Harcourt in Anything Goes, my junior year I was the Wardrobe in Beauty and the Beast, and this year I was the Bird Woman in Mary Poppins. My favorite performances, however, is Spring Sing, a student–run production where classes compete for bragging rights. I have been an actor in Spring Sing since my freshman year and my class hopes to win this year! Being able to express myself through song, acting, and dance is a form of meditation for me. It is a time where I am able to completely forget about my own anxieties and focus on the worries of the character. Roles are static until you make them come alive, and that is where there is room for creative expression. My greatest skill is knowing how to improvise on and off stage. Being able to improvise is one of the most important skills an actor can learn.
