SUNBLOCK TIPS
Sunblock is used by many people to help prevent sun-
burn and skin cancer. However, if you do not have the cor-
rect sunblock or use your sunblock incorrectly you will not
prevent sunburn or skin cancer. Using these helpful tips, you
can avoid sunburn and protect yourself against skin caner.
Tip #1 Use Sun Block With A SPF Of 30 Or Higher
SPF 30 provides protection for most of the day. For example
if you get sunburn in 10 minutes, SPF 30 will protect you for
300 minutes. If you use SP 15, you will be protected from the
sun for 150 minutes.
Tip #2 Make Sure To Use A Broad Spectrum Sun Block
Broad-spectrum sun blocks protect both UVA and UVB rays.
UVA rays are present even when there is no sun and can lead
to skin cancers. UVB rays are present when there is sun light
out. People tan with UVB and UVB causes sunburn and also
cancer if the skin in not protected.
Tip #3 Be Sure To Reapply Sun Block Early And Often
Water breaks down sun block even if the product is water-
proof. The sun will also break down your sun block over
time. Reapply sun block at least once every hour if you are
out in a pool. Be sure to use your sunscreen daily.
Tip #4 Be Sure To Apply Sun Block Even If You Are Just
Resting In The Shade Away From Sun Light
This is because UVA rays are present even when there is no
direct sun light.
Tip #5 Be Sure To Avoid Sun Block That Contain Oxyben-
zone
Oxybenzone is a toxic sunscreen that soaks into the skin,
which might be a contributing factor to skin cancer. Instead
look for sunscreen that contains Zinc Oxide or Titanium
oxide.

SUNBLOCK TIPS
Tip #6 Buy New Sun Screen Every Year
Most sunscreen do not protect as well after 12 months be-
cause the ingredients start to lose the amount of sun protec-
tion that they can give.
Tip #7 Take A Break At Midday
Mid-day or peak sun is also a good time to get out of the sun
and take a break indoors. The sun is strongest at this point.
The sun is strongest between 12:00PM and 3:00PM.
Tip #8 Wear Sun Glasses, Hats And Tight Shirts
Wear UV sunglasses to protect your eyes , hat to protect your
scalp and tight shirt to protect your body from the sun.
Tip #9 Take Special Care When Going To The Beach
Sun block may need to be reapplied more frequently since
the sand and the water reflect the sun creating a stronger
UVB ray. Higher altitudes also gives the sun more intensity.
Tip #10 Be Sure To Drink Plenty Of Water
Water keeps your skin hydrated and improves the protection
of your sun block.

11. A larger boat must carry at least one wearable personal flota-
tion device (PFD) for each person aboard and, in addition, a
throw-able PFD.
A larger boat must carry at least one wearable personal flota-
tion device (PFD) for each person aboard and, in addition, a
throw-able PFD. A throw-able PFD can be either a life pre-
server (a doughnut-shaped ring buoy) or a buoyant cushion
(floating pillow). All life preservers must be ready for use and
easily accessible. A small-boat user may find him or herself
in and out of the water frequently, for example, swimming or
diving. In such cases, wearing a PFD is impractical. Howev-
er, a child is more likely to become exhausted by swimming
and must wear a flotation jacket. It should be easy to use
and convenient to wear. A boat must also by law carry a fire
extinguisher of the approved type.
Navigation lights are also required. Closed boats must have
adequate ventilation. A noise-making device, such as a
horn or whistle, must be carried by motorboats over 16 feet
(4.8m). Boat users should always carry plenty of spare, warm
clothing for everyone aboard. Keep the clothing in water-
proof bags tied firmly into the boat. In an emergency , loose
equipment is dangerous. Boat users should wear sneak-
er-type shoes that are designed to give a good grip on wet
surfaces. Never wear rain boots. Good sunglasses should be
worn to prevent eyestrain on sunny days.

12. Fishing can be a relaxing way to spend your week-
ends. It has been proven that fishing is one of the all-time
treasured experiences of thousands of American families.
However, any sport has its dangerous side and fishing is no
exemption.
Majority of fishing equipment have sharp tools such
as metal hooks which may lead to accidents when the fishing
environment unexpectedly changes for the worse.
Storms, hurricanes, wild currents, and other mishaps,
could spoil your fishing trip. If you are planning to go on a
fishing expedition with family or friends, here is a list of ur-
gent situations and what preparations you need to face each
scenario.
FISHING TRIP TIPS
10 Yacht & Boat Life Of The Florida Keys 2017
13. 1) Weather – Before packing up your bags and traveling
to you fishing spot, consult or be aware of the weather con-
ditions for the day and the following days. Whether you are
fishing on shores or in a boat, you should be cautious of the
conditions such as flash floods, storm movements and dark-
ening of the skies. When signals such as extreme lightning
strikes, you should head to dry land immediately. Having a
sun-drenched day is not really an “appropriate fishing day.”
You should be aware that spending many hours with ex-
posure to the sun could damage your skin. Be prepared by
bringing sun block to avoid sunburns. You should be aware
of heat sickness symptoms such as nausea, breathing difficul-
ty, lightheaded, and unable to concentrate on tasks. Prepare
a supply of water or liquid beverages to keep hydrated.
2) Sharp fishing equipments – Since fishing in-
cludes many sharp tools, you should always be prepared to
treat injuries by packing disinfectants such as medicated
lotion or spray and hydrogen peroxide. If an incident leads
the skin to bleed, you would need bandages, cotton or paper
towel. Bring your own first aid kit.
3) Tangles – One of the most common fishing hindrances
is wherein your line is caught in anything surrounding your
fishing spot such as trees, logs, etc. Try to get your line or
fishing rod out of the tangle immediately to avoid the prob-
lem that could lead into a major accident. You could either
snap off the branches of the tree or carefully and slowly
remove your line away from where it is tangled.
4) Bait – When you run out of bait, it could spoil your
while fishing trip. Avoid this by splitting up the rest of the
bait into halves, quarters or thirds. The worm, even if divid-
ed, could still move, so the divided worms could still lure
your target fish. Be prepared to face any scenario to keep
your fishing adventure as relaxed as possible. With all these
in mind , you could enjoy your fishing trip safely and suc-
cessfully.

14. 8 Tips On Organizing
Your HomeBy: Walter Jensen
Here are 8 very useful tips on organizing your home. Taking that
first step is the most important part of organizing your home. So
now let’s get started on step one. This is critical because you can’t
get to where you want to go unless you know what that “where”
looks like. How do you want this room to function? How do you
want to feel when you’re in it? What do you want to do in this
room? What is the real purpose of this room?
Tip #1
Get a pad of paper and pen and walk through each room of your
home and write down what you see. It is important not to be over-
whelmed. Try doing this systematically.
For example, here is what you might see in your home entry way:
shoes, unopened newspapers, mail and circulars that are left at your
door, keys, pet toys, coats, sweaters and more. Now write down
what can be done to eliminate this clutter.
Tip #2- Get into a Routine
Sounds simple doesn’t it - well take it from me it’s one of the hard-
est tasks to do. As a teacher, I have always found this has helped
me “organize” my day at school for lessons planning, staff meetings
and have always found it effective - so, guess what? I now do it for
organizing the home. For example, with the children if they have
left any toys lying around after playing with them I encourage them
to put them away in their “tidy box” or on the shelf.

16. Tip #3 - Organize Storage
All things in the home must have a “Home” that’s one of the things
I say to my kids. Why? Because when something is not seen (in the
closet) you can get the False Feeling of it’s all organized. On the shelves
divide up sweaters, blouses, the clothes you wear now. As for racks -
great for shoes.
Tip #4 - Organize your kitchen
Organize you cabinets for plates, Tupperware, guest tableware - sep-
arately if possible, if not, separate shelves. Another great (often over-
looked) storage facility is the “Dishwasher” - storage and “purpose”
rolled into one!
Tip #5 - Organize the Bathrooms
Ideally, if you have the space and children two bathrooms are great.
Make sure that shelves for the toothpaste are just the ‘right’ height for
the children in their bathroom. In addition, keep no make up or any
potentially dangerous articles in the children’s bathroom within reach!
Tip #6 - The master grocery list
It’s been one the greatest time savers in our home. Basically I have a
‘general list’ that includes the ‘basics’ then ‘specifics’ including favorite
items that my children would like in the week and then ‘luxuries’ the
items that we would like but don’t need.
Tip #7 - Organize the Garage
Start out by making piles, for example: Yard tools, hand tools etc. Be-
gin by clearing off the work bench if you have one. You might want to
purchase some storage containers for the things you have in the house
you want to save. Label the containers and stack them in the garage.
You can buy hooks to hang rakes, shovels, hoses, bicycles etc
Tip #8 - Have a garage sale
After you go through the house and garage, you will end up with many
things you no longer want. The most fun way to get rid of these items
is by having a garage sale. You will be amazed at the amount of money
you can possibly earn and what you don’t sell you can give away or
donate.

18. BUYING A YACHT
Buying a yacht can be a daunting process. But if you
buy through a broker and know what you want, it will be a
rewarding experience, which will enhance your life for many
years to come.
Buying a yacht is a dream of many. It conjures up
images of serenely sailing into the sunshine, free to explore
exciting new places from a yacht with all the mod cons. Own-
ing your own yacht might seem expensive and unachievable.
Buying a brand new luxury yacht is obviously unaffordable
for most people. If you stretch to the top of your budget, you
might not be able to afford training, insurance, fuel, crew
and maintenance. A smaller sailing yacht, however, may be
more affordable than you first thought. Browsing broker’s
websites will give you a rough idea of how much a yacht is
going to cost - some are 100,000. This may seem expensive
at first, but consider the money you will save on holidays,
travel and hotels. And the experience of freedom to explore
the seas at your own pace and from the comfort of your own
surroundings is much more rewarding.
If you are interested in buying a yacht you will need
to speak to a broker who will find you a yacht for sale. The
advantage of owning a sailing yacht to a motor yacht is that
sailing yachts rely on a cheaper and more relaxed form of
fuel: the wind. Sailing also allows you to put your true cap-
taining skills to the test.
The main types of yachts are day sailing, weekender,
cruising and luxury yachts. Sailing is generally a day-long
act, and sailing yachts often do not have a cabin because of
this. Weekender yachts are under 9.5 meters in length, usu-
ally have a cabin or two and are intended for use for no more
than 3 days. Cruising yachts are larger, usually between 7
and 14 meters long, and are equipped for long journeys. Lux-
ury yachts tend to be over 25 meters long, with even more
space and luxurious finishings.
16 Yacht & Boat Life Of The Florida Keys 2017
19. The process of finding a yacht for sale begins with the broker.
You should have a rough idea of your budget and what type of yacht
you require before speaking to a yacht broker. The size of the yacht of-
ten depends on your budget, but remember you may be able to charter
your yacht out to earn some money to cover costs while you are not
using it.
You are likely to need to speak to a broker to buy your yacht,
particularly if this will be your first. They will share their expertise
into the different types and brands available, answering any questions
which you may have. Decide on your requirements before talking to
a broker. Will you be spending weeks sailing the world, or sailing the
coast of Britain on the odd day at the weekend? Source a place to keep
your yacht too. Dock-age can be difficult to find in some areas, so talk
to the people at marinas about available space before you buy your
yacht. If you will be chartering your yacht out think carefully about
where you will want to dock it. Crowds hit the Caribbean each winter
and the Mediterranean each summer so this is when you will be able to
make most money chartering your yacht out.
You will only truly be able to know if you like the feel of a boat
by spending time on board , and your yacht broker will explain whether
this is a possibility.

20. There are different kinds of liability insurance. These
include Business Liability Insurance, General Liability Insur-
ance, Fleet Insurance, PI Insurance, etc. If you are employ-
ing staff for your business it is mandatory by law to cover
them against any kind of accident or injury at work. In many
instances this may also include self employed contractors. As
an employer it is important that you should have an insur-
ance cover that will pay when the employee gets injured,
killed or falls ill when at work. In most nations across the
globe Employer’s liability insurance is mandatory by law.
Benefits of Employer’s Liability Insurance
In the event any employee suffers from any injury or dies at
work, the employer’s liability insurance will pay the employ-
ee’s family. Having such a kind of insurance policy reduces
the employer’s risk against huge claims from employees. Not
having such a policy is detrimental to your business interests
since accidents are quite frequent and despite all the precau-
tions and safety measures, are unavoidable. In the UK,
HowLiability
Insurance Reduc
esYourRisks
18 Yacht & Boat Life Of The Florida Keys 2017
21. there are many businesses that are still not covered for under
the Employer’s Liability Insurance. With raising awareness
amongst workers world wide, this can prove very costly for
such businesses.
Arranging for Employer’s Liability Insurance
Employer’s Liability insurance is normally arranged when
applying for business insurance. Quite often, many business
owners do not realize that business insurance incorporates
different types of insurance that is relevant to the business. It
may include: Employer’s Liability Insurance, General Liabil-
ity Insurance, Building Insurance or Property Insurance and
Motor Vehicle Insurance.
Cost of Insurance
The cost of any insurance is based on the claims experience
of the country and also and the perceived risk. This is nor-
mally determined by the insurance companies themselves.
In the United Kingdom, though the minimum insurance to
be held is £ 5.0 million, it is quite common for companies to
opt for £ 10 million. Within the same industry, the costs may
vary between employees belonging to different categories.
For instance, the cost of insurance for those working on scaf-
foldings and roof tops is higher when compared to painters
or fitters. Similarly, the cost of insurance for those working
inside an office is lower when compared to those who are
working in the field.
Finally, the Liability Insurance must cover all the employees
in the organization. Some employer’s insurance requires the
exact details about the number of permanent and temporary
employees. In the United Kingdom, the records of the Em-
ployers Liability Insurance should be retained for forty years.

Salmon is one of the best types of
fish to do on the grill. Use these
tips and techniques to get great
tasting grilled salmon.
Grilling
Salmon
30 Yacht & Boat Life Of The Florida Keys 2017
33. Salmon is one of the best types of fish to do on the grill, as
it is so versatile. It has a high fat content, which can stand
up to the high heat of the grill.
The trick with salmon is keeping it moist and let it cook in
its own juices. Salmon and fish in general are a nice healthy
alternative to the normal red meat dishes on a barbecue.
Preparation
The fresher the salmon is the better it is for the grill. Your
salmon fillets need to be at least an inch thick as anything
thinner will flake while grilling. When seasoning salmon,
do not over do it. Use basic ingredients: salt, ground pep-
per, and a bit of lemon juice. Do not over marinate salmon,
let it have its own flavor. Don’t leave it in the marinade for
too, ten minutes is plenty of time.
Fish is really soft and the acidic ingredients in a marinate
will eat away at the flesh.
Grilling Salmon
Preheat grill to a medium heat and grease the grill grid well
with olive oil. Salmon tends to stick to the grill very easily.
Avoid flare-ups at all costs; an open flame will burn fish.
Grilling time: eight to ten minutes per side.
An alternative is to wrap the salmon in high duty alumi-
num foil, which prevents the salmon from burning. Lightly
grease rectangle shaped pieces of foil and place salmon in
the foil bringing the ends up to enclose it.

The 108th annual Chicago Yacht Club Race to Macki-
nac will set sail from Monroe Station in Chicago, IL. A fleet
of over 350 boats will make way across Lake Michigan to-
wards the finish line, in Mackinac Island, MI.
The Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac is the most
celebrated event among the freshwater boating community.
The 333 mile voyage was founded in 1898, and serves some
of the elitist sailing talent in the world as an amateur sailing
competition.
Monroe Station has been named Race Headquarters,
and will stage the Warning Gun Party and Pre-Race Kick-Off
party, featuring food and beverage tents with live entertain-
ment and music.
Don Maxwell has been announced as the chairman for the
