Social Work Career Research Paper
I have chosen to pursue a social work education and career because I have a strong desire to help, educate, and support those in need. A second reason I
chose a career in social work is because my life was positively changed by a social worker. Finally, I am drawn to the social work profession by a fierce
desire to provide service to veterans. As a veteran myself, I can better empathize with the struggles they face. Also, I have first–hand experience with
the services currently available, what is lacking, and who to contact to resolve issues and answer questions.
When deciding on where to pursue my Master of Social Work degree perspective schools had to meet certain criteria. Be located in Montana, be
accredited, have positive reviews from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That was my focus at the Valor House where I did my bachelors of social work practicum. Along with providing case management to three clients I
reviewing perspective applicant's application packet, contacting references, verifying veterans housing eligibility with a Veterans Affairs liaison, and
conducted intake interviews. As mentioned above I also served in the United States Navy and Army for a total of twelve years. My military
experience exposed me to the world and all of its people. I learn first–hand what cultural competence is, the difference between sympathy and empathy,
how to communicate with a diverse group of people, and how to work together towards a common goal. After the military I know I wanted to serve
veterans. I was a work–study at the Great Falls, Montana Vet Center and the Missoula, Montana Vet Center. At both locations my primary
responsibilities were greeting clients, checking them in, maintaining their confidentiality, answer phones, scheduling appointments, and building client
files. It was also my first experience in the "help profession" and when and where I decided social work was my future. I had identified how I could
serve veterans by working in partnership with them to achieve their goals. When my college career began I was studying computer science. I graduated

This is applied research where a knowledge development objective is the end result (Blanche & Durrheim, 1999: 41).
2.2Type of Research Design
A research design can be understood as the planning of any scientific research from the first to the last step. In this sense it is a program to guide the
researcher in collecting, analyzing, and interpreting facts (Bless and Higson–Smith, 1995:63).
For the purpose of this study, the researcher intends to use a cross–sectional research design where all the data will be collected at the same time. The
distribution of the research questionnaires will take place over a time period of two weeks where the main data will be collected from the respondents.
2.3Data collecting methods and data analysis
The data gathering will be done with a questionnaire the researcher designed her self that will assess work satisfaction of social workers. The
questionnaire is named the Questionnaire on Social Workers Work Satisfaction in Welfare Organizations. This questionnaire firstly has the objective to
collect certain vital demographic information from the respondents. Secondly, it covers aspects on how the respondents perceived their work
environment, their experiences in so far their work

Clinic Manual
When did you read the clinic manual for the first time? How often have you re–read one or more sections? I read the clinic manual for the first time
when it was handed out the first day of clinic classes. I have re–read various clinic manual sections about five–to–ten times throughout the semester. I
referenced the manual when looking up the proper guidelines for work product guidelines.
Have you entered all of your time in CLIO by the Monday deadline every week? If not, why not? (e.g., were you unaware of the deadline? See

of documenting minutes has allowed me to better document the important facts from case law and summarizing issues.
Have your written communication skills improved? What has been your best piece of written work so far this semester? Yes. My best pieces of work
will be shown through my PAA Board Minutes submissions and PAA Conflict of Interest Policy.
Have you developed your problem–solving abilities this semester? What can you do to improve this critical legal skill in the remainder of the semester?
Yes. I could improve my critical legal skills set further by continuing the birds–eye–approach of research. This allows me to look at a wider array of
potential legal issues opposed to becoming to narrow minded on my preconceived notions.
Do you anticipate having any difficulty meeting your time commitment to the clinic? No I don't. Because the PAA workload requires many hours, I

Six Hour Work Day Research Paper
When it comes to my opnion on work days being six or eight hours i have to side with the six hour shift. My main reason for picking this is the
physical strain work tends to take on your body. My second reason is functioning in the early morning is difficut. Your mind has not gotten a
chance to fully wake up yet. My final reason why i support a six hour work day is people need to have time to spend with family and friends.
Although i do agree with some good parts on an eight hour work day. I still have to support the six hour work day. My main reason for choosing
this side of the argument is physical strain. It takes so much from the body to work long shifts all the time. These weeks most likley consist of six
or seven days a week. When people get tired on the job work can be very dangerous. At work if anything is done a wrong way it can effect the
outcome of the product or the saftey of others. Getting an injury could be very serious to your health and the chances increase if someone is
distracted or not paying complete attention . If you have to take time off of work you have no way to support your family and continue to pay your
bills. Being focused and well rested is the key to good work.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Evaluation Of The Research And Creative Work
UROP Application Spring 2016
Christopher Jones
Mentor: Trafton Drew
Department of Psychology Statement of the Problem/Topic of the Research or Creative Work Visual Search is important in our everyday lives, and
search relies on cues from the environment and uses object similarity to guide search. While much research has been done to see how visual similarity
between objects affects visual search (Duncan and Humphreys 1989), very little research has been done to see how different types of similarity
between objects compare in their effects on visual search. Specifically the proposed project would investigate how semantic similarity and visual
similarity influence visual search using real world objects. The usage of real world objects is important because many laboratory visual search tasks
are not reflective of visual search in a real world setting. Neural measures gathered from EEG (Electroencephalogram) data in the form of ERP
(Event–Related Potential) components can be used to measure onset of attentional processing, as well as how distracting certain objects may or may
not be. Specifically the N2PC reflects a shift in attention to a visual target. Using this ERP component, the neural differences between visual and
semantic similarity in objects can be evaluated and compared between participants. While research shows there is a behavioral effect between visual
and semantic similarity among distractors in visual search (De Groot, Huettig, and Olivers 2016),

Ethical Dilemmas In Social Work Research
Social work is one of the noblest professions today, particularly considering that the primary responsibility of social workers is to help in making
people's lives better by acting as advocates for the disadvantaged (Berg–Werger, 2013). Apart from this, the uniqueness of the profession lies in its
scope of practice, which is very broad, as well as the strong values on which it is entrenched. More importantly, social workers are one among the
persons that are highly committed to economic as well as social justice (Berg–Weger, 2013). These are the same features that makesocial work a
sensitive, demanding profession. To be precise, social workers are prone to facing legal charges on account of having violated ethical standards.
This paper explores the ethical frameworks, principles, and dilemmas involved in social work.
Ethical frameworks for social work practice
One of the key frameworks upon which the social work profession is founded is the Code of Ethics created by the National Association of Social
Workers (NASW). In brief, the NASW Code recognizes social workers as existing to improve the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, social workers who specialize in offering help to victims of substance abuse and addictions are not necessarily confronted by the same
challenges as those dealing in corrections and criminal justice. For social workers specializing in substance abuse, one of the ethical challenges that
abound relates to the issue of self–determination and consent. As stipulated in the NASW Code of Ethics, it is wrong for a social worker to obtain a
client's private information without his or her consent (National Association of Social Workers, 2017). While this is understandable, it is important to
bear in mind that some people are either reluctant or shy of disclosing addiction to substances (Miller,

Introduction
The topic I have chosen to look into for this assignment will be "When it comes to their health, workers always know best." (Workers Health
International Newsletter No. 42)." Analyse the different research methods that unions and workers use to identify ill health caused by work.
I have chosen to look into this subject to see what different research methods are out there and what kind of information we can gather from them. I
will do this by analysing and evaluating each known method, and then establishing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This style of research makes it easy to target large populations of people. Another pro is that the survey can be as specific or general as you like,
dependent upon the questions you wish to ask. You can ask open questions which will give you detailed responses, or closed questions which are
quick to interpret data from and you will get fast results. By using this method you can repeatedly use the same survey over a period of time to assess
any changes that may be taking place.
A disadvantage of this method is that survey design often requires special skills from the researcher in sampling proper question design and analysis.
Another weakness is open questions can create a lot of data which is time consuming to analyse and it may also put people off participating. Surveys
might not be accessible to all members, such as foreign workers or people with disabilities. Another drawback is that it is difficult to get people to
participate as it takes too much time to complete or they cannot be bothered.
Risk mapping
By using the risk mapping method, it can highlight to workers any potential hazards that they may be exposed to, and any physical, chemical or
biological problems that might arise when doing the job. Workplace risk mapping is a technique where workers can get together to get these concerns
down on paper. This approach takes the control away from experts like health and safety professionals, by using the

Potential Research Study: Work Life Balance
There is a problem with health related issues in Black women involved in leadership roles. Despite the decline of Black women in professional roles,
most encounter the task of attempting to balance work–life and home with a husband and kids. According to a poll conducted by the Washington Post
and the Kaiser Family Foundation, forty percent of black women say they experience frequent stress, compared with 51 percent of white women; stress
associated with ensuring a suitable lifestyle and working against the stereotypes created by society (Thompson, 2012). Warner (2014) compiled an

The study will examine various ages of both married and single women in different leadership roles. Potential research questions to share with
participants list as follows:
1.Is there a balance between your personal lifestyle and work?
2.Do you experience stressors in your personal lifestyle and work?
3.Do you have any stress related illnesses based off your personal lifestyle or work?
4.Do you have any coping mechanisms used to alleviate stressful situations?
5.What are your views on professional Black women and continued education?
6.What is your perspective of the "American Dream"?
7.Does the role of being a leader affect the level of stress one endures?
Integration of theories is a foundation to support the predicted claims. The literature review synthesizes each theory based off the work of several
scholars. The selection of Boundary theory supports the idea of "balance." According to previously investigative studies, there must be limits set to
maintain order (Currie & Eveline, 2011). Failure to set boundaries with busy lifestyles causes an interference with demanding roles that can lead to
stressors (Sirajunisa & Panchanatham, 2010). Life–space theory is another area of study that focuses on working adults and their level of experience in
a career over the course of a lifetime (Whiston et al., 2015). At a certain stage in life, most individuals tend to seek stability, job growth, and other
qualities, which

more about the connection between research and practice in writing for adult learners; through working with a community based organization I hope to
deepen my knowledge and understanding of the impact and challenges of working in a literacy program and how this translates into overall goals of
improving livelihoods and building a stronger community. Throughout the semester, I have realized more potential for realizing my goals in my work
and I have worked on different components of my vision.

This exercise allowed me to reflect on my values, how they have shifted and solidified and to predict the kind of learning experiences I hope for as I
work and live in organizations. Looking back, the concept of understanding the individual level has become more critical. Micro and macro asset
mapping has allowed me to see myself as an essential element of the whole hence my contributions matter. Furthermore, understanding my assets,
skills and learning goals in my work as a community fellow allows me to trace my progress, set benchmarks and reassess my goals and vision.
Illich (1968) brings the local/global dichotomy to the forefront. I resonate with his frustration, passion and anger on this issue but I see this
conversation boiling down to the conversation about being an outsider and doing community development work. The speech builds on Bergdall's
conversation about being an outsider and Illich takes it on a more international level. I always question my intentions and my interactions on working
in community development especially in a community that is not necessarily my own. I believe that regardless of geographic location or affiliation
with communities, social issues on today's world deserve our attention; this call to action for global citizens transcends boundaries and difference.
Respect for difference is the key to some of the challenges with working

Social workers are caregivers, they provide assistance to people in need, and they address social problems. The social worker's goal is the improvement
of society to improve the lives of individuals in need. The social work professional mission is to enhance the well–being of people and to assist them
in meeting their basic needs, with particular emphasis on the needs of the poor, and the vulnerable individual. The Social Work profession has six core
values. These core values are the foundation of the social work profession. Social workers incorporate these core values into their daily practices.

A Research On Team Work
Team work involves the actions undertaken by a group of individuals in order to achieve a common goal. They work together in a cooperative
environment to achieve the common goal through sharing ideas, knowledge and skills. The goal is the target or common objective and it is greater
than the personal aspirations of each member of the team.It is a cooperative process that enables target oriented individuals to achieve great
results(Scarnati 2001).A team has a common objective and the team members work together and ultimately develop effective and mutual relationships
to achieve the set goals(Harris and Harris,1996).
An effective teamwork depends on the rapport present between all members of the team leading to the creation of an environment where they are all
willing to contribute and participate in order to promote a positive and effective team environment.Research has shown that for teamwork to be
successful, every member of the team must be committed to the shared goal and they must also be willing to promote and encourage their fellow team
members to contribute and participate to achieve the set objectives.A team can achieve their objectives at a far superior level when the team members
operate in an enabling and positively interdependent team environment(Johnson and Johnson1995,1997).Communicating in an open and honest
manner, exhibition of good interpersonal skills and working towards conflict resolution are all important aspects of teamwork.

Another example of a social workers position includes defending their elderly clients from financial abuse to ensure that they are obtaining the
benefits that are rightfully theirs. There are many other roles as a social worker, but to put it simply; social workers are heavily involved in
connecting the dots between peace and social justice. A philosophy best stated by Van Soest aboutsocial work, "Peace is not possible where there are
gross inequalities of money and power, whether between workers and managers, nations and nations or men and women." So now your probably

Work: Scientific Method and Exploratory Research
Analytical research is a type of research that utilises critical thinking to find out facts about a given topic and from the answers obtained develop new
and useful ways of doing things. Critical thinking is a method of thinking that puts assumptions into question to decide whether a given claim is true or
false.
When writing an analytical research paper, you must perform a variety of tasks beforehand. The first step is to formulate a thesis and then gather your
sources that will be used. The sources should then be evaluated for accuracy. Everything should then be meticulously documented. There are many

Qualitative Social Work Research
Social work research is a systematic and objective inquiry that uses the scientific method to solve human problems and creates new knowledge that is
generally applicable to the social work profession (Grinnell, Jr., Williams, and Unrau, 2016). There are two approaches one can take when conducting
research: a quantitative or qualitative approach. Quantitative examines things that can be measured. Qualitative examines the qualities of a specific
topic. In the case of this paper a qualitative approach would be most effective. The qualities of African American men who experience mental health
issues because of childhood emotional trauma is being examine. Social work research is important for two basic reasons: 1) it can guide social workers

For example, the factors that contribute to the mental health of African American men are often examined by researchers. Most factors that researchers
discover include socio–economic status, demographics, and health care problems, amongst other thing. Surprisingly, few researchers connected mental
health of African American men to the childhood emotional trauma they could had endured. Thus, making this an understudied topic.
Description: During this step researchers observe and then describe what they have observed. For example, over the course of my life I have
observed/encountered African American men who refuse to show any type of vulnerable emotions because they feel if they do they will be
considered weak or less of a man. Based off of my observation many of those men suffer from some type of mental health issue later on in their lives.
Thus, leading me to wonder is there a connection between the two,
Explanation: During this step researchers simply explain things. In this case I would explain why African American men refuse to show any vulnerable
emotions compared to other races/genders or I would explain why African American refuse to seek professional help when having a mental health

people in need is the main goal of a social worker and this is exactly why I chose this career. I know that a social worker is required to identify people

First, I was correct about my own understanding of what a social worker is required to do. "[Social workers] act as allies to some of the most

social workers help might be to some people. "Social workers may be engaged in a variety of occupations ranging from hospitals, schools, clinics,
police departments, and public agencies, court systems to private practices or businesses" (Leaver 969). This quote from another scholarly journal
provided proof to me that I was correct about my assumptions about the social work career but it also brought out some new information to me. I was

public agencies, and court systems. This new information was fascinating to me because I was never aware that a social worker could work in even

The Role Of Information And Communication Technology
A Comparative Analysis: The role of Information and Communication Technology in Work Stress.
A commonly experienced phenomenon by most people is stress, which Taylor (2014) defines as a harmful emotional experience which goes together
with changes – in biochemistry, physiology, cognition and behavior– by a person to adjust to a stressful event (i.e. a stressor), or its effects. Work
stress (i.e. occupational stress) is a new phenomenon – or possibly a re–purposing of an old concept – that has arisen due to the extreme, and ongoing,
changes to the nature of work over the last century (Bickford, 2005). This phenomenon can be defined as the negative physical and emotional reactions
that transpire when job requirements do not match the worker's capabilities, resources, and needs (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services,
1999). In the field of work stress one focus of the research is on investigating the effects of the prevalent, and global, use of information and
communication technologies in the work environment (i.e. technostress). Information and communication technology meaning any electronic device,
or technology, with the ability to gather, store, or send information (Steinmueller, 2000).

What Is Research A Work Plan?
2.3 Methodology
The aim of methodology is give the research a work plan. (Rajasekar et al, 2013). The approach taken for this research is according to our previous
understanding of the Cooper and Griffin's problem from our discussion with the representative. Methodology itself could be described as systematic
way to solve the research problem or a logic of the decision making process in the scientific research (Mouton, 1988). FIGURE 6: STEPS
FOLLOWED DURING RESEARCH
2.3.1 Primary Research:
"It could be named as survey research; the research depends heavily on gathering data through people like questionnaires, interviews or observations"
(Wallman, 2001). Research is divided into 2 ways, qualitative research and quantitative research Wyse (2011):
1.Qualitative Research is essentially exploratory examination. It is utilized to increase an understanding of underlying reasons, assumptions, and
inspirations. It gives experiences into the issue or serves to create plans or speculations for potential quantitative exploration. Qualitative Research is
additionally used to uncover drifts in thought and feelings, and plunge deeper into the issue. Qualitative information gathering routines change utilizing
unstructured or semi–organized procedures. Some normal strategies incorporate centre gatherings (bunch exchanges), individual meetings, and
investment/perceptions. The specimen size is ordinarily little, and respondents are chosen to satisfy a given portion (For more

My first research experience involved ecological work at the San Miguel Biological Station in Costa Rica. During the summer of 2013, I did extensive
field research in and near the Cabo Blanco Absolute reserve focusing on forest succession within the scope of the unique continuous conservation
efforts of the national government. A total of thirty (0.02 hectare) forest inventory plots were laid out. Species composition and population structure of
tree species were characterized representing 28–year–old and 50–year–old successional forests, and small areas of primary forest. The research showed
that longevity of growth and area use were determining factors in the species that occurred. When an area had been undisturbed and allowed to grow
for a longer period, there was more speciation resembling primary forest. Suggesting for the areas studied, that if left undisturbed long enough, an
area's speciation will resemble primary forest. However, secondary growth in these areas is not expected to immediately resemble the population
structure of tree species as a consequence of time in undisturbed growth. I showcased this project in a poster presentation at the SDSU Student
Research Symposium March 2014.

Research Techniques:
I will no doubt be employing many research techniques throughout the course of my work, however the three that I will describe in detail are:
interviews, participant observation, and site mapping. Some of the additional methods include: household information survey, literature review,
government policy analysis, and public discourse analysis.
To begin, I will likely start with participant observation. I will be visiting and volunteering at multiple different non–profit organizations and

Social Work Research Paper
Social workers have a valuable role in society as they promote the development of new community resources that benefit clients including
health–promoting activities. In order to promote healthy living, social workers must first understand what healthy living is in order to be an advocate
for their clients. To assist in this, social workers could attend seminars on healthy living and gain the information they need to mentor their clients in
certain areas of healthy living. Social workers could also refer clients to health–promoting classes such as classes on healthy cooking and hygiene
classes. Healthy living involves ensuring that one can be an advocate for one's own health and in order to do this, a client must be willing to express
their own health concerns. Social workers can advise going to the doctor's and seeking counseling so that a client can gain insight into their body and
mind and what is best for them. Other health–promoting practices including providing assessment and referral to particular services that promote
healthy living. Furthermore, social workers can identify resources that are not available in a community and help promote the idea of starting up... Show

symptoms of a mental illness is also important to promote among clients, especially those within the mental health field because some of these clients
may not have a support system who can help advocate for them. The ability to educate our own clients as to how substances can cause illnesses such

As an immigrant from a third world country, Kenya, coming to America was nothing but a dream. America was a foreign place I had only heard of.
Moving to a foreign land with my family at the age of fourteen with nothing much other than the clothes on our backs, I watched how hard my parents
had to work as they had to start over in order to be able to provide for the family. From an early age the importance of hard work was ingrained in me
and I was very determined to work hard in school and whatever I choose to do in order to make something of myself.
As I was enrolled in high school, I initially had a really hard time adapting to the curriculum which was quite different from what I had been
accustomed to. At first I found most subjects hard

I personally view social work as a structured, multi–faceted platform that provides necessary, practical assistance and aid to those who direly need it.
This comes in numerous different forms and reaches across all walks of life, but ultimately, the unequivocal similarity that all social workers in any
branch of social work share is the ability to plant and foster the seeds of positivity and growth in even the darkest, bleakest of places. I have
experienced the transformative power of this very work firsthand and, frankly, I believe social work to be one of the most admirable and necessary
professions to exist. As the late journalist Alexander Chase so aptly put it, "Social work is a Band–Aid on the festering wounds of society." It is the role

life, and with the knowledge I will acquire about my field as I work to obtain my certificate, I believe I will be very well–qualified to jump as far as I
possibly can in my professional life as a social worker, I have not yet professionally entered the field of social work, because I feel that I would be
much better qualified to wait until I have obtained my Certificate and have the tool of higher education under my belt. The specifics of what
exactly I hope to accomplish by jumping as far as I possibly can in my professional life are to simply be the best social worker for addicts and their

divisive the effects can be. If I can help even one family understand and shape their family environment into a safer, more constructive one, to give back

Excessive force From more than two decades ago, L.A. riots made headlines that has caused continued allegations of police brutality. This wasn't the

understudies for working adequately in the work environment. Group skills are nonspecific and transferable abilities that have long–lasting
importance. Group skills incorporate the capacity to discuss adequately with colleagues, to work cooperatively to take care of issues, to consult
with associates and resolve clashes, and to draw in with differing colleagues. Teamwork makes the effort lot easier and saves the time. My first
experience of the teamwork was the final project for the requirement to pass Bachelor of Technology in Mechanical Engineering. So the project

Introduction
Culture is the way people view their world. Through culture, beliefs are born. What a person believes is directly associated with their behavior.
"Cultural sensitivity can be defined in the broadest sense to be an awareness and utilization of knowledge related to ethnicity, culture, gender, or sexual
orientation in explaining and understanding situations and responses of individuals in their environment" (Broome, 2006). While assessment tools aid
in diagnosis and treatment, to be effective, cultural sensitivity is an inclusion of the client–centered approach enveloped in the assessment instrument.
Using a cultural lens in client assessment yields to a client–center approach. Leininger (1985) explains care that embraces cultural practices is positively
correlated to patient treatment agreement, patient satisfaction, and the conflict rise from patient disagreement of interventions.
The National Center for Cultural Competence (2007) declares "assessing attitudes, practices, structures and policies of programs and their personnel is
a necessary, effective and systematic way to plan for and incorporate cultural and linguistic competency within organizations." A common practice is
the use of screening and assessment instruments to deliver person–centered care to individuals in need of healthcare services. Culture becomes a focal

The Concept of Social Work
Nakia L. Bell
University of South Alabama
Abstract
This paper is a brief summary of the concept of social work. I will attempt to answer the following questions: 1) What is social work? 2) Why is social
work a profession? 3) How does one become a social worker and what does it mean to be a social worker? 4) What are the basic social work values and
why are these important? Lastly, 5) Why are diversity and social and economic justice important concepts for social work? So what is social work?
Social work is basically a field where licensed professionals find solutions to help the client better his life or situation. Social work is a profession

However, social work is more than helping people with family problems or financial situations. Social work can also include working with people for
their citizen's rights; helping children with social or psychological problems at school; organizing, developing, planning, and administrating social
actions to improve conditions; etc. Social work is a field where licensed and qualified social workers help clients find the best solution(s) to their
problems. This is done by: 1) consulting with the client to determine what solution is needed, 2) providing the client with all available resources, and 3)
educating the client on these resources. The goal is for the client to become independent.
Why is Social Work a profession and what does that mean?
In order to determine why social work is a profession, one must first understand what a profession is. A profession, according to Professional Standards
Council, is:
"A disciplined group of individuals who adhere to ethical standards. This group positions itself as possessing special knowledge and skills in a
widely recognised body of learning derived from research, education and training at a high level, and is recognised by the public as such."
There are seven criteria that have to be met in order for an activity of line of work to be considered a profession. Over the years, social workers have
proved that social work has met all the criterion of a profession. The criterion met are: 1)unique

San Carlos Warehouse Observation Report
I decided to do the volunteer work at the San Carlos warehouse of the Museum of American Heritage (MOAH). I went there for 3 days to complete
the project. On the first day, Jim gave a brief introduction about the warehouse and the types of work they do there. I was surprised when Jim explained
that the warehouse is mostly run by volunteers. Then, he introduced me about the main process they did at the warehouse. One of the main tasks is to
determine what to do with the artifacts received through various means such as from donations, buying and other methods. As the storage space is
limited, it is important to decide what to keep. Unwanted items are either transfer to other museums/archives, sell it for fund or simply throw it away.

closer to research paper work. I personally prefer the type of work at the San Carlos warehouse because I got a physical interaction with the primary
source – artifact itself. It was like going to a museum and learning about history by looking at the artifact. It has the same feel as going on a field trip

interesting active learning project; I was able to get a bit of hand–on experience on history and learn various components of American

Doing Cutting Edge Research Work At Leading Universities...
Doing cutting–edge research work at leading universities paints a full image of my dream. Conducting leading–edge academic research to advance
business knowledge as a learned scholar has always appealed to me much more than conducting operating strategies to maximize corporate value as a
chief officer. For me, nothing can compared with the eagerness to discover new things, the rapture of acquiring much knowledge, the satisfaction after
intellectual interactions. To fulfill my career goal as an outstanding academic researcher in finance area, I would like to pursue a doctoral degree by
dedicating my full–time to a research–intensive program, which can offer the right foundation to help me get ahead. I believe that the Ph.D. program in
Business Administration (with concentration in Finance) would be invaluable in helping me meet my long–term goal.
My desire to become a researcher stems from both my personality and my experience. Born in a family full of educators, I value knowledge more than
wealth. Intelligence is the main asset in my family–both my parents devote themselves in research and teaching as professors in universities, though
they have different specialty. Asking questions constantly and searching for answers are greatly encouraged. And elders extol virtues mostly when I
show curiosity, erudition and initiative. But actually, I didn't come to decide on my lifetime career goal just simply to follow in my parents ' footsteps.
I have tried something else and also

Culturally competent assessment instruments look beyond the diagnosis itself. The Child Welfare Information Gateway (n.d.) states "addressing issues
of culture, race, class, and ethnic background increases the likelihood of a positive intervention." Two types of tools used in health care which precede
intervention and treatment are screening and assessment. It begins is a screening tool administered at initial contact with the client. According to
SAMSHA (n.d.) "regular screenings in primary care and other health care settings enables earlier identification of mental health and substance use
disorders, which translates into earlier care." But what is the difference between a screening instrument and an assessment? In health care settings,
including behavioral health agencies, screening is a form of preventive service delivery. The purpose of a screening tool is to spot check the client's
perspective and overall health at any given moment in time to determine if there is a health need that should be addressed. The U.S. Substance Abuse
and Mental Health Services Administration (2009) explains "screening involves asking questions carefully designed to determine whether a more
thorough evaluation for a particular problem or disorder is warranted." The second tool is the assessment. Assessment is similar to screening, however,
there are marked differences. An assessment is a more comprehensive spot check of the client. The purpose of an assessment

Social Work Research
Social work research is often under the constraints of institutional systems, often, the very systems that oppress the people or communities being
researched. Anti–oppressive research methods, begin by, according to Potts and Brown (2015), considering the various interest, power, relationships,
and stakeholders in our research. In social work research, those stakeholders may include funders, government organizations, and nonprofits.
Keeping the nonprofit industrial complex in mind, all of the listed systems are likely to influence the research and desired results regardless of the
intentions of the researcher. This brings the up the importance of the researcher's positionality, reflexivity, power and the methods they choose to
use. I try to be critical of social work research, specifically, my praxis because I did not learn about any of the methods and practices below in our

In the process of trying to "help" communities, this research may further exploit them because the information they share is viewed as a commodity if
the methods are Euro–American based. Kanuha (2000) stated that with social work's long–standing efforts to challenge social relations that are
historically inequitable and with claims of multiculturalism and cultural competence as hallmarks of the profession, social work literature is
surprisingly deficient about questioning the hegemony of the subject–object relationship in research. Examples abound of native or indigenous
research in social work literature including people of color studying their own racial or ethnic groups. In addition to that, Fraser and Jarldorn (2015)
states that part of the process of anti–oppressive social work is to notice how dominant discourses can infiltrate and distort our

related injuries happen to people that are in occupations that do not normally expose them to danger too. The important fact is that a state's worker's

Social Work Career Research Paper

  • 1. Social Work Career Research Paper I have chosen to pursue a social work education and career because I have a strong desire to help, educate, and support those in need. A second reason I chose a career in social work is because my life was positively changed by a social worker. Finally, I am drawn to the social work profession by a fierce desire to provide service to veterans. As a veteran myself, I can better empathize with the struggles they face. Also, I have first–hand experience with the services currently available, what is lacking, and who to contact to resolve issues and answer questions. When deciding on where to pursue my Master of Social Work degree perspective schools had to meet certain criteria. Be located in Montana, be accredited, have positive reviews from ... Along with providing case management to three clients I reviewing perspective applicant's application packet, contacting references, verifying veterans housing eligibility with a Veterans Affairs liaison, and conducted intake interviews. As mentioned above I also served in the United States Navy and Army for a total of twelve years. My military experience exposed me to the world and all of its people. I learn first–hand what cultural competence is, the difference between sympathy and empathy, how to communicate with a diverse group of people, and how to work together towards a common goal. After the military I know I wanted to serve veterans. I was a work–study at the Great Falls, Montana Vet Center and the Missoula, Montana Vet Center. At both locations my primary responsibilities were greeting clients, checking them in, maintaining their confidentiality, answer phones, scheduling appointments, and building client files. It was also my first experience in the "help profession" and when and where I decided social work was my future. I had identified how I could serve veterans by working in partnership with them to achieve their goals. When my college career began I was studying computer science. I graduated Great Falls College Montana State University with an Associate of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Six Hour Work Day Research Paper When it comes to my opnion on work days being six or eight hours i have to side with the six hour shift. My main reason for picking this is the physical strain work tends to take on your body. My second reason is functioning in the early morning is difficut. Your mind has not gotten a chance to fully wake up yet. My final reason why i support a six hour work day is people need to have time to spend with family and friends. Although i do agree with some good parts on an eight hour work day. I still have to support the six hour work day. My main reason for choosing this side of the argument is physical strain. It takes so much from the body to work long shifts all the time. These weeks most likley consist of six or seven days a week. When people get tired on the job work can be very dangerous. At work if anything is done a wrong way it can effect the outcome of the product or the saftey of others. • 6. Evaluation Of The Research And Creative Work UROP Application Spring 2016 Christopher Jones Mentor: Trafton Drew Department of Psychology Statement of the Problem/Topic of the Research or Creative Work Visual Search is important in our everyday lives, and search relies on cues from the environment and uses object similarity to guide search. While much research has been done to see how visual similarity between objects affects visual search (Duncan and Humphreys 1989), very little research has been done to see how different types of similarity between objects compare in their effects on visual search. Specifically the proposed project would investigate how semantic similarity and visual similarity influence visual search using real world objects. The usage of real world objects is important because many laboratory visual search tasks are not reflective of visual search in a real world setting. Neural measures gathered from EEG (Electroencephalogram) data in the form of ERP (Event–Related Potential) components can be used to measure onset of attentional processing, as well as how distracting certain objects may or may not be. Specifically the N2PC reflects a shift in attention to a visual target. Using this ERP component, the neural differences between visual and semantic similarity in objects can be evaluated and compared between participants. While research shows there is a behavioral effect between visual and semantic similarity among distractors in visual search (De Groot, Huettig, and Olivers 2016), ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Ethical Dilemmas In Social Work Research Social work is one of the noblest professions today, particularly considering that the primary responsibility of social workers is to help in making people's lives better by acting as advocates for the disadvantaged (Berg–Werger, 2013). Apart from this, the uniqueness of the profession lies in its scope of practice, which is very broad, as well as the strong values on which it is entrenched. More importantly, social workers are one among the persons that are highly committed to economic as well as social justice (Berg–Weger, 2013). These are the same features that makesocial work a sensitive, demanding profession. To be precise, social workers are prone to facing legal charges on account of having violated ethical standards. This paper explores the ethical frameworks, principles, and dilemmas involved in social work. Ethical frameworks for social work practice One of the key frameworks upon which the social work profession is founded is the Code of Ethics created by the National Association of Social Workers (NASW). In brief, the NASW Code recognizes social workers as existing to improve the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, social workers who specialize in offering help to victims of substance abuse and addictions are not necessarily confronted by the same challenges as those dealing in corrections and criminal justice. For social workers specializing in substance abuse, one of the ethical challenges that abound relates to the issue of self–determination and consent. As stipulated in the NASW Code of Ethics, it is wrong for a social worker to obtain a client's private information without his or her consent (National Association of Social Workers, 2017). While this is understandable, it is important to bear in mind that some people are either reluctant or shy of disclosing addiction to substances (Miller, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This style of research makes it easy to target large populations of people. Another pro is that the survey can be as specific or general as you like, dependent upon the questions you wish to ask. You can ask open questions which will give you detailed responses, or closed questions which are quick to interpret data from and you will get fast results. By using this method you can repeatedly use the same survey over a period of time to assess any changes that may be taking place. A disadvantage of this method is that survey design often requires special skills from the researcher in sampling proper question design and analysis. Another weakness is open questions can create a lot of data which is time consuming to analyse and it may also put people off participating. Surveys might not be accessible to all members, such as foreign workers or people with disabilities. Another drawback is that it is difficult to get people to participate as it takes too much time to complete or they cannot be bothered. Risk mapping By using the risk mapping method, it can highlight to workers any potential hazards that they may be exposed to, and any physical, chemical or biological problems that might arise when doing the job. Workplace risk mapping is a technique where workers can get together to get these concerns down on paper. This approach takes the control away from experts like health and safety professionals, by using the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The selection of Boundary theory supports the idea of "balance." According to previously investigative studies, there must be limits set to maintain order (Currie & Eveline, 2011). Failure to set boundaries with busy lifestyles causes an interference with demanding roles that can lead to stressors (Sirajunisa & Panchanatham, 2010). Life–space theory is another area of study that focuses on working adults and their level of experience in a career over the course of a lifetime (Whiston et al., 2015). Furthermore, understanding my assets, skills and learning goals in my work as a community fellow allows me to trace my progress, set benchmarks and reassess my goals and vision. Illich (1968) brings the local/global dichotomy to the forefront. I resonate with his frustration, passion and anger on this issue but I see this conversation boiling down to the conversation about being an outsider and doing community development work. The speech builds on Bergdall's conversation about being an outsider and Illich takes it on a more international level. I always question my intentions and my interactions on working in community development especially in a community that is not necessarily my own. • 12. A Research On Team Work Team work involves the actions undertaken by a group of individuals in order to achieve a common goal. They work together in a cooperative environment to achieve the common goal through sharing ideas, knowledge and skills. The goal is the target or common objective and it is greater than the personal aspirations of each member of the team.It is a cooperative process that enables target oriented individuals to achieve great results(Scarnati 2001).A team has a common objective and the team members work together and ultimately develop effective and mutual relationships to achieve the set goals(Harris and Harris,1996). An effective teamwork depends on the rapport present between all members of the team leading to the creation of an environment where they are all willing to contribute and participate in order to promote a positive and effective team environment.Research has shown that for teamwork to be successful, every member of the team must be committed to the shared goal and they must also be willing to promote and encourage their fellow team members to contribute and participate to achieve the set objectives.A team can achieve their objectives at a far superior level when the team members operate in an enabling and positively interdependent team environment(Johnson and Johnson1995,1997).Communicating in an open and honest manner, exhibition of good interpersonal skills and working towards conflict resolution are all important aspects of teamwork. Social workers aim to open the doors of access and opportunity for everyone, particularly those in greatest need." Now that we have a general idea of what Social Justice is, Let us further take a look into the eyes of what it means to be a "Social Worker". Another example of a social workers position includes defending their elderly clients from financial abuse to ensure that they are obtaining the benefits that are rightfully theirs. There are many other roles as a social worker, but to put it simply; social workers are heavily involved in connecting the dots between peace and social justice. A philosophy best stated by Van Soest aboutsocial work, "Peace is not possible where there are gross inequalities of money and power, whether between workers and managers, nations and nations or men and women." So now your probably thinking how this information relates to me. Well, as a minority, there are a plethora of racial prejudices that are held against me. An example would be an accusation that since I was raised by a single mother, who looks absolutely nothing like me, that I can't go to certain schools. Qualitative Social Work Research Social work research is a systematic and objective inquiry that uses the scientific method to solve human problems and creates new knowledge that is generally applicable to the social work profession (Grinnell, Jr., Williams, and Unrau, 2016). There are two approaches one can take when conducting research: a quantitative or qualitative approach. Quantitative examines things that can be measured. Qualitative examines the qualities of a specific topic. In the case of this paper a qualitative approach would be most effective. Most factors that researchers discover include socio–economic status, demographics, and health care problems, amongst other thing. Surprisingly, few researchers connected mental health of African American men to the childhood emotional trauma they could had endured. Thus, making this an understudied topic. Description: During this step researchers observe and then describe what they have observed. For example, over the course of my life I have observed/encountered African American men who refuse to show any type of vulnerable emotions because they feel if they do they will be considered weak or less of a man. Based off of my observation many of those men suffer from some type of mental health issue later on in their lives. Thus, leading me to wonder is there a connection between the two, Explanation: During this step researchers simply explain things. A commonly experienced phenomenon by most people is stress, which Taylor (2014) defines as a harmful emotional experience which goes together with changes – in biochemistry, physiology, cognition and behavior– by a person to adjust to a stressful event (i.e. a stressor), or its effects. Work stress (i.e. occupational stress) is a new phenomenon – or possibly a re–purposing of an old concept – that has arisen due to the extreme, and ongoing, changes to the nature of work over the last century (Bickford, 2005). This phenomenon can be defined as the negative physical and emotional reactions that transpire when job requirements do not match the worker's capabilities, resources, and needs (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, 1999). In the field of work stress one focus of the research is on investigating the effects of the prevalent, and global, use of information and communication technologies in the work environment (i.e. technostress). During the summer of 2013, I did extensive field research in and near the Cabo Blanco Absolute reserve focusing on forest succession within the scope of the unique continuous conservation efforts of the national government. A total of thirty (0.02 hectare) forest inventory plots were laid out. Species composition and population structure of tree species were characterized representing 28–year–old and 50–year–old successional forests, and small areas of primary forest. In social work research, those stakeholders may include funders, government organizations, and nonprofits.
