Standard English Essay
The question to ask is: 'Why not use Standard English all the time?'
Language is a powerful communication tool the user holds to express their individual identity and
ingroup solidarity. The use of Standard English helps to direct this, as it acts as the structure of
communication, ingroup and between speech communities to effectively present a standard for
mutual understanding. Outside of Standard English comes the use of slang, netspeak and textspeak,
which helps to develop and enrich the language, as well as evolve with contemporary Australia and
its fast paced lifestyle. Using the Standard all the time would be exclusive of the linguistic freedom
formed by the world beyond Standard English with varying ethnolects, but is also a...show more

Other forms of the English language are developed from speech communities with an intention, for
efficiency and to show inclusion, and to exclude others. It also helps to convey a specific identity of
the speaker, with the use of syntactic and phonological differences from Standard English. These
modifications form non–standard dialects, transferring the speaker's cultural background and
language to provide a better perception and reflection of identity. The falling intonation accompanied
with interrogatives in the Asian ethnolect, such as 'Gravy?', is the opposite of the rising intonation
used for the same purpose by Australians, and can quickly cause conflict between the two
communities due to the missing benchmark in language. Pronoun deletion in 'No like' ('I don't like
it') is a feature of many ethnolects (Greek, Aboriginal English), and is differing from the Standard,
yet still helps to get the message across. Ethnolects develop from Standard English, and helps to
express a user's identity through their language use and in–group solidarity within the speech
community.
There are a range of English varieties which are different from the Standard, developed from
communities of speakers all sharing the same use of language. Aboriginal English, a dialect of
Australian English, remains a lingua franca for their speakers, used as a common language to
communicate between tribes for mutual

English in My Life Essay
When my teacher said "good morning" to me on the very first day of school, I knew
that she would be teaching a tough subject. She didn't get any answer for that greeting because back
then, I knew nothing about "good morning". Surprisingly, as I went through the class
session on that day, I realized that "good morning" wasn't the first English phrase that
I'd known. English has been rooted in my society long before my country achieved its
independence and shockingly I've used some of its words in my daily speech without realizing it
because the words were fully modified by the society so that they could be installed smoothly into
our language. Learning English was always an interesting yet tough experience...show more content...
When someone speaks English in my society, he or she feels a sense of withdrawal because they
are set apart to a very small group in the society. People tend to belittle this group for speaking
other languages, and normally they will end up speaking their first language to comply with the
larger group in the society. With all these reasons, my interest towards English was completely
gone when I enrolled in secondary school, six years after my formal `encounter' with the English
language. For having this negative feeling, I became a member of a large group of students who
had never realized the significance of the English language. One day was unusually dull. I was
waiting for the teacher to come to the class and instead of revising my past English lessons that I
rarely cared about, I prayed that she wouldn't show up that day. After ten minutes' wait, she entered
the class saying "good morning". The greeting didn't bother me much, but when she
came to me asking for the assignment that she gave the day before, I was speechless and I just
gave her the blank handout that I was supposed to complete for that day. Her face showed no
emotion and with that she ripped the paper into pieces. That day marked a massive change in my
attitude toward English lessons and the English language in general. The incident was very
important to me because I then realized that even in a subtle way, language represents people and to
respect the language means to respect

English Language Teaching Methods
Many countries in Asia like China, Japan, UAE, Sri Lanka, Singapore etc., adopted English as a
foreign language not as a second language. Because considering English as a second language and
as a Foreign Language is different in their view point. They view that outside of the classroom,
English is not that much useful. They teach all the subjects in their mother tongue but in India if
one is unable to speak in English he becomes a tabooed person. Many Asian countries treat the
pupil's age, sex, race, attitude, intelligence and grasping power in teaching English. Indian teachers
neglect this aspect. For ex: a speaker from Hyderabad emphasizes more vowels before many words
because of the influence of Urdu. Straight – Istraight. And a Bihari pronounces 'sh' as 's' because of
the influence of Kharboli. Teachers don't take into consideration of this aspect and mistreat students.
So teachers have to choose the methodology as suit their classroom and environment. If teacher takes
all the factors into consideration classroom becomes more meaningful. All the methods are not
meaningful when teacher choose them as per the needs of the classroom.

Sometimes more than one method is used to bring out the anticipated outcomes in the language
classroom where communication develops the key factor of teaching–learning process. Unless
students learn to utilise the classroom method to express thoughts and feelings outside into the real
world situations, the learning cannot be effective no matter whatever teaching method is applied in
English as a Second Language classroom. Teacher– student role becomes the centre in bringing out

Today, Malaysians are very much exposed to the English language mainly through the education
system and media. In Malaysia, English is known as a second language, and the language contact
is practically unavoidable for all Malaysians. Before Malaysian children are formally exposed to the
language in schools, most of them have already picked up some basic words and expressions
especially if they are from an english speaking family.
Teaching English as a second or foreign language is always a battling ground for educators, more
so for a country like Malaysia which is multiethnic and multilingual. In Malaysia, most people speak
their mother tongue as their first language, followed by the national language, Malay. For example,
a Malaysian Chinese may have Mandarin as his first language, Malay as his second language
followed by English as his third. However, this might not be a common pattern among all
Malaysians. Among the urbanites, there may be a preference to use English as their first language
instead of their native language. Thus, the native language and the national language will be
relegated to either second...show more content...
After having taught English to Malay learners for more than 4 years, it is found that most Malay
learners, which also include university students, are unable to grasp the English verbal system, with
particular reference to the use of the English tenses. Therefore, the interest in the verbal system of
these two languages is not only typological but also pedagigically oriented. Language teachers
frequently complain about students' inability to communicate properly in English due to the
insufficient knowledge of the target language's verbal system, which is the core component in the
study of this language. Hence, this study hopes to give a better understanding on how to help
students use the correct verb

October 19, 2016 Reflection Paper
It's hard to believe that it's already time for Midterms in my English 101 class. The adventure has
been a lot easier than I at first anticipated. In any case, I am happy that I am taking the class and
learning from it. In the beginning it appeared somewhat hard however I was resolved to compel my
way through this class regardless of what difficulties I needed to persevere.
On the first day of my English 101 class I was apprehensive, I had no clue what's in store from the
class. As I discovered what the class would have been similar to, I let myself know I was going to
attempt to get an B or higher toward the end of the semester and put all the exertion I had into each
paper I kept in touch with, I was not going to set this class aside for later and linger like I use to do.

These aptitudes may empower me to enjoy additionally composing and not need to stress over

This course has helped me with many chances to figure out how to properly write papers. Prior to
this class, I had little experience with how to build a legitimate paper. It has taken experience, and

Essay About My English Class
I can remember seeing that I had to take an English class my first semester of college. I was
already overwhelmed with starting college, and having to write college essays made me get even
more nervous. I sat down with my mom and decided to look at the English classes available, and I
finally decided that I had to take an evening class to make it work in my schedule. The first day of
English came and now looking back it was not as bad as I thought. It made me a better writer and be
where I am today. It may have taken me some time to get where I am today, but at least I am on
the right track. English Composition helped me realize that I am my own author and have strengths
that I did not realize I had. When I first started college I did not know what to expect with an
English class. I liked writing about topics that interested me, but high school did not allow me to do
that. I took American History and we would have to write...show more content...
I learned many techniques from my professor. He helped me realize that it is okay to have your
own opinion as long as you back it up. He showed me that I am an author when I did not think I
was. He also told us to read our essays out loud when we proofread, and I always did this
technique before submitting all my essays. I can remember having to write my first essay and I
was scared, because I felt like I had to get a good grade. I started thinking about what tools I could
use to help me, and I decided to go to The Learning Center to help with my essay. When I went
there they would make edits to my essay and then explain what I should change. The tutor noticed I
used multiple choppy sentences and commas in spots there should not be. Sometimes I would even
go twice to make sure I did not miss any minor mistakes. Going there helped me feel more confident
as a writer and I learned from my mistakes. I had many helpful techniques from multiple people that

Vocabulary Essay In English
Learning another language is never easy. It requires a lot of effort to become competent in that
language. Many things have to be considered to be able to learn well a target language. One
question that a learner has to ask himself is what he could focus in learning a language. Vocabulary
plays a vital role in learning any language. Vocabulary is "the knowledge of words and their
meanings (Nash & Snowling as cited by Hansen, 2009)." With vocabulary knowledge, a person can
enhance his/her understanding of the written and listening inputs that he/she encounters. Learning
words entails reading and listening, yet, this becomes unattainable without knowing the meaning of
the words. As Hazzlitt (1993) says, "if you do not know the word, you can hardly know the thing
(p.51)." Also, vocabulary aids in conveying ideas, thoughts and emotions, may it be written or
spoken. Hence, vocabulary is an indispensable tool in every language....show more content...

Naturally, it is why developing English skills is the landmark goal that majority of people want to

Importance Of English Language Arts Essay
What is English Language Arts? How does it differ from English, the language itself? English
Language Arts is not a language, but it is the study of communicating thoughts. Every subject is
important in school; each demonstrates a particular skill in education, but Language Arts builds
complexity of a person's learning. Speaking, reading, and writing are all components of language
arts. Having these skills are important; the first thing an interviewer notices is one's ability to
articulate, and learning English Language Arts helps to obtain that goal. Being able to communicate,
express one's self, and build life skills, are the reasons why English Language Arts is the most
important subject in our education. First and foremost, the...show more content...
However, as I learned more in language arts, I discovered others methods in writing. I know how
to create stories by being imaginative, or write poetry by thinking creatively. Writing takes critical
thinking, a general skill widely used in life. Subjects like math or science may use critical thinking,
but it focuses more on applying knowledge in discussions rather than your own thoughts. Learning
language arts have taught me to be more expressive; you will never know if your words could
inspire someone one day.
Lastly, English Language Arts build life skills that are crucial in life, to prepare yourself for the
outside world. The first impression in an interview is how you present yourself, not how many
achievements you have made. The way you speak, the way you act, the way you answer the
questions, are parts of doing presentations. Senior portfolio is an example of a presentation in
high school, and it is taught in English Language Arts class. The senior portfolio is probably one
of the most important projects in one's whole high school career because it reflects your growth as
a student and as an individual. Learning how to create a good portfolio from Language Arts class
shows one's education level. In addition, companies recruit people with a good education, what you
have learned in English Language Arts will prepare you in college, and your future career.

One kind of problem that immigrants share is the need to learn the English language, even if
learning English is a very hard language to learn. When immigrants do not learn English, they are
fated to remain second class citizens or never become a citizen. They are ghettoized and never
integrate into the main stream of society. They are forced to take low paying jobs, their children are
raised in poverty, and they frequently do not finish high school, they take low paying jobs
themselves, raise their own children in poverty and remain in this never ending cycle. Furthermore
when you move to a different country or region, learning the local language will help you to
communicate and fit in with the local community. Doing so will establish your interest in and
commitment to the new country. Many businesses do not bother to learn other languages because;
they believe that most of the people they do business with can speak English. The lack of
understanding the English language puts the non–English speaking individuals at a greater
disadvantage, then those who understand and articulate English. It is very important for immigrants
to learn and understand English in order for them to be successful and live the American dream.

Review of English Semester Essay
English 101–60 has taught me many things and has helped me grow and develop my skills as a
writer. It has taught me how to think more creatively and use clear concrete details. In the
beginning of the semester, our first writing assignment was a narrative journal entry that focused on
writing about an uninteresting moment from your life and making it interesting. This was a
challenging assignment because it was a broad topic that allowed the writers to take it in any
direction. I remember thinking I had no idea what I am going to write about. Once I was able to
narrow down the ideas I started writing what a traumatic experience I had six years ago. This was

our lack of organization. Fortunately, we were able to make this up with all of us being very
truthful towards each other and not sugarcoating the revisions we suggested among our papers.
We all accomplished the beginning stages of writing our research papers and making sure
everyone had their thesis there. Over the semester I have been challenged and intrigued over and
over by the content of this course and the professor, who thought I could develop a fairly strong
paper if it was not for all my grammatical errors. It has been a very enlightening and enthralling
experience that has taught me a new way to write a paper. In high school there was only one way
to write and that was it. I think that this class is a great way for students to think out of the box,
rather than having to be stuck. It allows them to write more freely about a subject, and I am very
thankful for that. I have learned many new skills and improved the skills I already

English Has Never Been My Favorite Subject Essay
English has never been my favorite subject. I have always been great at writing, but reading was
very difficult for me all throughout grade school. I could read just fine, but when it came to
reading comprehension problems I would completely blank out. I never really understood how to
comprehend stories or articles until this class. When I first saw the syllabus, I was afraid because
this whole class was to mainly read some sort of literature, understand the story fully, then write
about it in depth. I guess you could say I really didn't know how to think analytically until this class.
Literature is categorized by quite a few genres. The largest categorized genres are fiction, poetry,
and plays. In those categories, there are genres like tragedy, crime fiction, narrative and the list goes
on. The point is that there are a lot of genres and it's so fascinating to read and write about all the
genres in literature. Reading literature is pretty simple. You just have to understand what you are
reading. Writing about literature can be a little trickier. To write three to four full pages, you must
really understand what you are writing about. Therefore, you must do a lot of research. It helped me
a lot to make an outline, then research to make all the points in my essay. When students peer edited
my essay, it was very helpful because they pointed out mistakes that I would have never seen. They
also gave me a lot of advice to lengthen my essay. One of my weaknesses before this

Greatest Invention Essays
What is the greatest invention of all time?
Throughout time there have been lots of new inventions which have both hindered and helped

they have all helped out humankind in some way, some more than others.
I think that the greatest invention of all time is Harnessed Electricity. Some may argue that this was
not an invention it was a discovery but although electricity itself was a discovery there was still the
invention of had to use it and what it could be used for. I think that electricity is very important to

I believe that the use of electricity in healthcare is more important than the use of penicillin because
of the x–rays, MRI scans, life support machines, cat scans, ultrasound, surgery lighting, heart rate
monitors, incubators and loads of other much needed specialist equipment. This equipment has
over the years helped to save millions of lives and although penicillin helps to treat the odd few
illnesses it doesn't help to run a well equipped hospital which saves even more lives with the billions
of people who visit a hospital every year.
Without electricity there would be no light and it would constantly be dark from around 4pm ever
day. This would restrict most people from doing things because as soon as it was dark they would
have to go to bed because there would be no lighting. Nobody could go out after dark as there
would be no street lights on the roads and houses would have to be lit by candle light which
wouldn't give of the strength of light that a light bulb does now. Yet again it would be exactly like
living in the dark ages.

My experience throughout English 101 Essay
My Experience throughout English 101
As writers, many students write to the expectations of their professors and not to their fullest
potential. Throughout English 101 I had been writing only to please my professor or to fill the basic
requirement to pass English. I always felt that my writing ability was never enough for my
professors throughout the previous years. They always wanted clear and concise essays, which for
some reason was unreachable by me. However, starting college and taking English 101 helped me

Also, by revising my essays I felt that I had the chance of writing with a broader sense.
Another weakness that I had coming into English 101 was my way of reading. I remember
having to read an essay or book 3 or 4 times before I could ever sit down and write about it. I was
looking and at the words all wrong. However, my professor introduced a technique of reading
critically. "A critical analysis, on the other hand, takes a viewpoint and attempts to its validity;"
(Trimble, 95) In Trimble's quote he is trying say that a critical analysis helps a reader understand
what the author is really trying to point out. This was the same approach that was taught to me by
my professor. This type of analysis helped me understand better what the author was trying to
convey and it also helped me explain it better in my essays.
Additionally, another weakness that I had when coming into English 101 was that I was a selfish
writer. Like Trimble said, "His natural tendency as a writer is to think primarily of himself– hence to
write primarily for himself." (Trimble, 4) I was a writer who only cared about impressing one
type of audience my professor and not writing to prove a point or expand my knowledge to several
other audiences. However, after writing several unsatisfying essays I had come to realize that my
style of writing was too narrow and boring. In this realization of writing I discovered that what
matters the most is pleasing your audience (many not one), and

Essay On English Grammar
English grammar is an extensive and complicated set of rules that govern how we speak and write
using the English language. Grammar has evolved over many centuries, and the rules change from
time to time. Teaching grammar plays a central role in every ESL / EFL teacher's classroom. The
topics cover a range from letters and sounds, parts of speech, vocabulary and stories to dialogue and
conversation, listening comprehension, reading comprehension and written composition. English
language and its usage have become extremely emotive issues in recent years... 'An Introduction to
English Grammar' is an invaluable guide to the study of English language in an accessible format.
Generally the authors begin with an introduction chapter on the nature of grammar and on the
varieties of English and move on to provide an outline description of English grammar. It is to be

But, before viewing the role that grammar has played in the history of second language teaching,
let's first explore the nature of grammar. Linguists define grammar as a set of components: phonetics
,the production and perception of sounds, phonology ,how sounds are combined, morphology ,the
study of forms, or how elements are combined to create words, syntax ,how words are strung
together into sentences, and semantics or meaning. Because all languages are characterized by these

Furthermore, English can increase one's chances of being accepted in the exchange program by
improving English. One of the requirements for the program is that people applying should have
decent skills in the English language. Therefore, youth should take actions to improve English
language before regret. Goals, motivation and attitude of youth are the effective ways to improve
one's English language. Youth must set up a goal and found out the motivations before starting
improving English. Goals can help youth to sort out what is important and what isn't. With goals,
youth will only focus on the things that they want to achieve and spend precious time on them. For
example, learn to write a good essay during three month set as one's goal, he or she will try their
personal best and personal ways to enhance English writing skills during that given period.
Motivation also plays a critical role in improving English language. McDonough S. (1983: 142)
stated that "motivation of the student is one of the most important factors influencing their success
or failure in learning the language." When studying English, youth might face a lot of different
problems like environment problem, financial problem and so on. Motivation can help one to keep

  • 1. Standard English Essay The question to ask is: 'Why not use Standard English all the time?' Language is a powerful communication tool the user holds to express their individual identity and ingroup solidarity. The use of Standard English helps to direct this, as it acts as the structure of communication, ingroup and between speech communities to effectively present a standard for mutual understanding. Outside of Standard English comes the use of slang, netspeak and textspeak, which helps to develop and enrich the language, as well as evolve with contemporary Australia and its fast paced lifestyle. Using the Standard all the time would be exclusive of the linguistic freedom formed by the world beyond Standard English with varying ethnolects, but is also a...show more content... Other forms of the English language are developed from speech communities with an intention, for efficiency and to show inclusion, and to exclude others. It also helps to convey a specific identity of the speaker, with the use of syntactic and phonological differences from Standard English. These modifications form non–standard dialects, transferring the speaker's cultural background and language to provide a better perception and reflection of identity. The falling intonation accompanied with interrogatives in the Asian ethnolect, such as 'Gravy?', is the opposite of the rising intonation used for the same purpose by Australians, and can quickly cause conflict between the two communities due to the missing benchmark in language. Pronoun deletion in 'No like' ('I don't like it') is a feature of many ethnolects (Greek, Aboriginal English), and is differing from the Standard, yet still helps to get the message across. Ethnolects develop from Standard English, and helps to express a user's identity through their language use and in–group solidarity within the speech community. There are a range of English varieties which are different from the Standard, developed from communities of speakers all sharing the same use of language. Aboriginal English, a dialect of Australian English, remains a lingua franca for their speakers, used as a common language to communicate between tribes for mutual Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. English in My Life Essay When my teacher said "good morning" to me on the very first day of school, I knew that she would be teaching a tough subject. She didn't get any answer for that greeting because back then, I knew nothing about "good morning". Surprisingly, as I went through the class session on that day, I realized that "good morning" wasn't the first English phrase that I'd known. English has been rooted in my society long before my country achieved its independence and shockingly I've used some of its words in my daily speech without realizing it because the words were fully modified by the society so that they could be installed smoothly into our language. Learning English was always an interesting yet tough experience...show more content... When someone speaks English in my society, he or she feels a sense of withdrawal because they are set apart to a very small group in the society. People tend to belittle this group for speaking other languages, and normally they will end up speaking their first language to comply with the larger group in the society. With all these reasons, my interest towards English was completely gone when I enrolled in secondary school, six years after my formal `encounter' with the English language. For having this negative feeling, I became a member of a large group of students who had never realized the significance of the English language. One day was unusually dull. I was waiting for the teacher to come to the class and instead of revising my past English lessons that I rarely cared about, I prayed that she wouldn't show up that day. After ten minutes' wait, she entered the class saying "good morning". The greeting didn't bother me much, but when she came to me asking for the assignment that she gave the day before, I was speechless and I just gave her the blank handout that I was supposed to complete for that day. Her face showed no emotion and with that she ripped the paper into pieces. That day marked a massive change in my attitude toward English lessons and the English language in general. The incident was very important to me because I then realized that even in a subtle way, language represents people and to respect the language means to respect Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Essay On English Language Teaching English Language Teaching Methods Many countries in Asia like China, Japan, UAE, Sri Lanka, Singapore etc., adopted English as a foreign language not as a second language. Because considering English as a second language and as a Foreign Language is different in their view point. They view that outside of the classroom, English is not that much useful. They teach all the subjects in their mother tongue but in India if one is unable to speak in English he becomes a tabooed person. Many Asian countries treat the pupil's age, sex, race, attitude, intelligence and grasping power in teaching English. Indian teachers neglect this aspect. For ex: a speaker from Hyderabad emphasizes more vowels before many words because of the influence of Urdu. Straight – Istraight. And a Bihari pronounces 'sh' as 's' because of the influence of Kharboli. Teachers don't take into consideration of this aspect and mistreat students. So teachers have to choose the methodology as suit their classroom and environment. If teacher takes all the factors into consideration classroom becomes more meaningful. All the methods are not meaningful when teacher choose them as per the needs of the classroom. Methods of English Language Teaching...show more content... Sometimes more than one method is used to bring out the anticipated outcomes in the language classroom where communication develops the key factor of teaching–learning process. • 4. Today, Malaysians are very much exposed to the English language mainly through the education system and media. In Malaysia, English is known as a second language, and the language contact is practically unavoidable for all Malaysians. Before Malaysian children are formally exposed to the language in schools, most of them have already picked up some basic words and expressions especially if they are from an english speaking family. Teaching English as a second or foreign language is always a battling ground for educators, more so for a country like Malaysia which is multiethnic and multilingual. In Malaysia, most people speak their mother tongue as their first language, followed by the national language, Malay. For example, a Malaysian Chinese may have Mandarin as his first language, Malay as his second language followed by English as his third. However, this might not be a common pattern among all Malaysians. Among the urbanites, there may be a preference to use English as their first language instead of their native language. Thus, the native language and the national language will be relegated to either second...show more content... After having taught English to Malay learners for more than 4 years, it is found that most Malay learners, which also include university students, are unable to grasp the English verbal system, with particular reference to the use of the English tenses. Therefore, the interest in the verbal system of these two languages is not only typological but also pedagigically oriented. Language teachers frequently complain about students' inability to communicate properly in English due to the insufficient knowledge of the target language's verbal system, which is the core component in the study of this language. Hence, this study hopes to give a better understanding on how to help students use the correct verb Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 6. Essay About My English Class I can remember seeing that I had to take an English class my first semester of college. I was already overwhelmed with starting college, and having to write college essays made me get even more nervous. I sat down with my mom and decided to look at the English classes available, and I finally decided that I had to take an evening class to make it work in my schedule. The first day of English came and now looking back it was not as bad as I thought. It made me a better writer and be where I am today. It may have taken me some time to get where I am today, but at least I am on the right track. English Composition helped me realize that I am my own author and have strengths that I did not realize I had. When I first started college I did not know what to expect with an English class. I can remember having to write my first essay and I was scared, because I felt like I had to get a good grade. I started thinking about what tools I could use to help me, and I decided to go to The Learning Center to help with my essay. When I went there they would make edits to my essay and then explain what I should change. The tutor noticed I used multiple choppy sentences and commas in spots there should not be. • 7. Vocabulary Essay In English Learning another language is never easy. It requires a lot of effort to become competent in that language. Many things have to be considered to be able to learn well a target language. One question that a learner has to ask himself is what he could focus in learning a language. Vocabulary plays a vital role in learning any language. Vocabulary is "the knowledge of words and their meanings (Nash & Snowling as cited by Hansen, 2009)." With vocabulary knowledge, a person can enhance his/her understanding of the written and listening inputs that he/she encounters. Learning words entails reading and listening, yet, this becomes unattainable without knowing the meaning of the words. As Hazzlitt (1993) says, "if you do not know the word, you can hardly know the thing (p.51)." Also, vocabulary aids in conveying ideas, thoughts and emotions, may it be written or spoken. Consequently, the constant exposure to English language classes up to this day is what formed the root of all the motivation I have today for maintaining my improvement on my English skills. Furthermore, as the result of the motivation, learning English by myself became the primary passive activity for all of my leisure time. Since the last decade, the online world has become the primary place where I always read and listen to everything in English. For instance, when watching YouTube videos, I always listen for the content that is spoken in the video. At the same time, I also exposed myself to all kinds of English accents, pronunciation, vocabulary, and grammar, which in turn means lead to less effort on trying to understand real conversations in English. English Language Arts is not a language, but it is the study of communicating thoughts. Every subject is important in school; each demonstrates a particular skill in education, but Language Arts builds complexity of a person's learning. Speaking, reading, and writing are all components of language arts. Having these skills are important; the first thing an interviewer notices is one's ability to articulate, and learning English Language Arts helps to obtain that goal. Without knowing proper English, a child will not be able to communicate effectively with the English speaking nation. They would be shut off from education and other people in this country. A person who does not poses proper English limits his or her ability to achieve their highest potential. They are forced to take low paying jobs, their children are raised in poverty, and they frequently do not finish high school, they take low paying jobs themselves, raise their own children in poverty and remain in this never ending cycle. Furthermore when you move to a different country or region, learning the local language will help you to communicate and fit in with the local community. Doing so will establish your interest in and commitment to the new country. Many businesses do not bother to learn other languages because; they believe that most of the people they do business with can speak English. Over the semester I have been challenged and intrigued over and over by the content of this course and the professor, who thought I could develop a fairly strong paper if it was not for all my grammatical errors. It has been a very enlightening and enthralling experience that has taught me a new way to write a paper. In high school there was only one way to write and that was it. I think that this class is a great way for students to think out of the box, rather than having to be stuck. It allows them to write more freely about a subject, and I am very thankful for that. I have learned many new skills and improved the skills I already Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 13. English Has Never Been My Favorite Subject Essay English has never been my favorite subject. I have always been great at writing, but reading was very difficult for me all throughout grade school. I could read just fine, but when it came to reading comprehension problems I would completely blank out. I never really understood how to comprehend stories or articles until this class. When I first saw the syllabus, I was afraid because this whole class was to mainly read some sort of literature, understand the story fully, then write about it in depth. I guess you could say I really didn't know how to think analytically until this class. Literature is categorized by quite a few genres. The largest categorized genres are fiction, poetry, and plays. In those categories, there are genres like tragedy, crime fiction, narrative and the list goes on. The point is that there are a lot of genres and it's so fascinating to read and write about all the genres in literature. Reading literature is pretty simple. You just have to understand what you are reading. Writing about literature can be a little trickier. To write three to four full pages, you must really understand what you are writing about. Therefore, you must do a lot of research. It helped me a lot to make an outline, then research to make all the points in my essay. When students peer edited my essay, it was very helpful because they pointed out mistakes that I would have never seen. They also gave me a lot of advice to lengthen my essay. One of my weaknesses before this Get more content on HelpWriting.net

There are many different possible world's greatest inventions because they have all helped out humankind in some way, some more than others. I think that the greatest invention of all time is Harnessed Electricity. Some may argue that this was not an invention it was a discovery but although electricity itself was a discovery there was still the invention of had to use it and what it could be used for. I think that electricity is very important to human life because it would be nearly impossible to do anything we do today. If we didn't have electricity a lot of things would...show more content... I believe that the use of electricity in healthcare is more important than the use of penicillin because of the x–rays, MRI scans, life support machines, cat scans, ultrasound, surgery lighting, heart rate monitors, incubators and loads of other much needed specialist equipment. This equipment has over the years helped to save millions of lives and although penicillin helps to treat the odd few illnesses it doesn't help to run a well equipped hospital which saves even more lives with the billions of people who visit a hospital every year. Without electricity there would be no light and it would constantly be dark from around 4pm ever day. This would restrict most people from doing things because as soon as it was dark they would have to go to bed because there would be no lighting. Nobody could go out after dark as there would be no street lights on the roads and houses would have to be lit by candle light which wouldn't give of the strength of light that a light bulb does now. Yet again it would be exactly like living in the dark ages. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. My experience throughout English 101 Essay My Experience throughout English 101 As writers, many students write to the expectations of their professors and not to their fullest potential. Throughout English 101 I had been writing only to please my professor or to fill the basic requirement to pass English. I always felt that my writing ability was never enough for my professors throughout the previous years. They always wanted clear and concise essays, which for some reason was unreachable by me. However, starting college and taking English 101 helped me with my weaknesses and changed my technique of writing essays. Also, by revising my essays I felt that I had the chance of writing with a broader sense. Another weakness that I had coming into English 101 was my way of reading. I remember having to read an essay or book 3 or 4 times before I could ever sit down and write about it. I was looking and at the words all wrong. However, my professor introduced a technique of reading critically. "A critical analysis, on the other hand, takes a viewpoint and attempts to its validity;" (Trimble, 95) In Trimble's quote he is trying say that a critical analysis helps a reader understand what the author is really trying to point out. This was the same approach that was taught to me by my professor. This type of analysis helped me understand better what the author was trying to convey and it also helped me explain it better in my essays. Additionally, another weakness that I had when coming into English 101 was that I was a selfish writer. Like Trimble said, "His natural tendency as a writer is to think primarily of himself– hence to write primarily for himself." (Trimble, 4) I was a writer who only cared about impressing one type of audience my professor and not writing to prove a point or expand my knowledge to several other audiences. However, after writing several unsatisfying essays I had come to realize that my style of writing was too narrow and boring. In this realization of writing I discovered that what matters the most is pleasing your audience (many not one), and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. English 101 Reflective Essay English 101 has been such an adventure. I know that sounds corny, but I just couldn't help myself. When I decided to do a short–term English class, I thought it would be fun and challenging; My expectations were correct. As I write this reflection, I look back on the topics and assignments that existed in this short period of time from post 1 to the multi–modal project. I will list the challenges I experienced which creating the creative project, what I learned from the beginning of class to the end, and what I need to work on in the future. This English adventure started on post 1 and 2 and ended at the multi–modal project. When I first did post 1 and 2 ,I was excited because we were incorporating fallacies to our discussions. I previously learned more about fallacies and ethos, pathos, and logos from a previous communications course and I appreciated the review. I found that it was challenging to respond properly to posts created by other classmates. My initial response was always to support each and every classmate by telling them that they did an awesome job. I had trouble analyzing their work without agreeing with every claim. The multi model project brought tears to my eyes and I do not mean tears of joy. At first I loved my ideas and was excited about the outcome, but my stress and nervousness...show more content...
