WHAT AND WHO IS Q-SPD?
• Q-SPD Surface Drives have been around since 2001 and have been developed and
refined over the years to become the reliable and user-friendly product it is today.
Q-SPD is a unique type of surface drive system that defies some of the common
idiosyncrasies of traditional surface drives and brings some modern thinking and
technologies into the design and application.
• Despite Q-SPD’s simple and clean appearance the innovative design puts all
vulnerable components inboard away from the elements. With less moving parts
there is naturally less to go wrong, guaranteeing reliability and longevity.
When we don’t hear from our customers, we know it’s a good thing.
• All this and still match performance expectations but with the ability to apply to a
more diverse range of applications, including low, medium and high-speed vessels.

WHAT IS A SURFACE DRIVE?
• A propulsion device where the propeller operates on the
water surface behind the transom of the boat.
• Typically the propeller is only 50% immersed at
operating speed.
• The propeller shaft angle is low – typically around 6º
- so offers more efficient thrust angle.
• A surface piercing propeller is specially designed to
operate in this half-in / half-out manner and is more
efficient than conventional propellers at speeds over 25
knots.

BETTER STEERING AND MANOEUVRABILITY
Side-mounted rudders operating in “hard” undisturbed water flow at all times
• Better tracking at all speeds
• Responsive and predictable steering than trailing rudders or articulating drives
BETTER REVERSE
• The uniquely designed composite housing, along with advances in propeller design
ensures the propeller is biting into hard un-aerated water immediately reverse is
selected thus improving reverse performance.

SMOOTH AND QUIET
• Carefully designed propellers that “slice” the water surface so there is no
slapping effect.
• Exhaust is ported through the composite housing and ventilates the
propeller at low speed so no cavitation noise
• Exhaust noise is suppressed as it passes through the Q-SPD housing and
merges with the thrust from the propeller, thus additional mufflers not
needed.

LOWEST MAINTENANCE
• Composite housing is very strong and will not corrode
• All metal components are marine grade stainless steel or bronze and all
bonded to sacrificial anodes
• All hydraulics and thrust bearings are inboard, protected from the harsh
elements
• All immersed bearings and bushes are long life water lubricated type
• Over size thrust bearings are oil lubricated and water cooled for extended life
• Regular servicing in very minimal and easy
