Examples Of Irony In The Great Gatsby
As Alanis Morissette describes in the song "Ironic", an old man turned ninety–eight. He won the lottery and died the next day. Isn't it ironic? As stated
in Cambridge English, irony is a method of writing in which there is a noticeable , sometimes humorous, and the difference between what is said and
the intended meaning. Numerous examples of irony are used in American literature to bring stories to life and create a theme. In this paper, three
different examples of irony will be discussed to show how the author provides richness to the literature and creates a theme.
One example of irony in American literature can be found in The Great Gatsby. "Only Gatsby, the man who gives his name to this book, ... represented

Highly Sensitive Research Paper
A highly sensitive person has high sensitivity to the world around them. High sensitivity, also called sensory processing sensitivity, is a completely
normal trait that affects between 15 to 20% of the population, or 1.4 billion people, according to experts on the subject.
People can have a lot of success despite being highly stimulated by the world around them. For example, Alanis Morissette has openly talked about
how she is a highly sensitive person and often felt misunderstood and misperceived, but that hasn't stopped her from doing some great things in this
world.
It's interesting that being highly sensitive is not limited to humans. Biologists have discovered this trait in over 100 species, including dogs, horses, and
even birds.
We tend to use the term 'highly sensitive person' as a bad label for someone. For instance, we might call... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They See And Feel The Beauty In Life More Intensely
Many people who are highly sensitive have an appreciation for music, art, love, and joy that people who are not don't feel. The thought of something
beautiful, like true love, can bring tears to their eyes and resonate deeply into their soul.
People who are highly sensitive find that they are moved by the beauty of nature. The trees, the mountains, the rivers, the oceans, and the animals in
nature all touch a chord in them that makes them feel love, peace, and gratitude more intensity.
Moreover, they notice the subtle things in life more, such as the little flower that goes unnoticed by other people. They cherish those little things, and
they are the people who inspire others to stop and smell the roses!
4. They Have Deeper Conversations And Interactions With Others
People who are highly sensitive find it easier to talk about important things. They may not find small talk, such as the weather, that important. But,
when they hear about something that has some deeper meaning about life, love, or emotions, they are more likely to participate in the

Taylor Swift: A Career In Country Music
Introduction to Taylor Swift:
Taylor Swift is a brilliant pop star that began her career in country music. She has just finished her 1989 World Tour, and continues to top charts and
receive awards for the popularity of her music. Taylor Swift is very much a reflection of American culture and her generation; she is ever changing,
thriving, and has taken charge of making a place in this world for herself. Her musical style has changed a lot throughout the course of her career, but
she has remained true to the feelings her music evokes, therefore, her fan base has only grown with each new risk she has taken. Her "honest lyrics
about real–life events" are what keep her success going. Taylor Swift is at the peak of her stardom, and it looks like ... Show more content on

This song utilizes a complex mix of melody, harmony, and beats. It is also paired with creative lyrics, and phrases that have become popular
because of the song, such as, "Darling, I'm a nightmare dressed like a daydream." This song was such an epic success because it completely
succeeded at being accessible, relatable, creative, original, but yet easy to understand. Good music is often a reflection of culture and society at the
time, which is what makes it is so successful.
The Influence of Taylor Swift:
Taylor Swift has been very influential; not only through her music, but through how she carries herself as a person. Swift shows that it's okay to be
confused, but it's important through times of confusion and pain, to remain true to one's self. Her music is so relatable to teenage girls and young
women growing up that it makes her easy to identify as a role model and want to be like her. As a person, she has shown that is emotional vulnerable,
but strong, and both are amazing qualities to want to have.
Musically, Taylor Swift has inspired many aspiring singer/songwriters and talented composers. Selena Gomez admitted to finding courage to write her
own music through Taylor Swift. Gomez's new songs even have a similar style to Taylor Swift's, showing that Swift was a prominent influence in her

Analysis Of The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas
The Ones Who Walk Away or Stay The story of "The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas" is essentially the story about a primary ethical dilemma.
That dilemma is whether you should achieve happiness and prosperity while someone suffers in order for you to have happiness and prosperity. Once
you learn that someone has to suffer in order for you to have happiness and prosperity, will you let it continue and stay or will you leave? The people
from "The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas" by Ursula K. Le Guin must decide whether to leave Omelas or stay, while I must decide whether to
take a new job offer or stay.
The short story begins with a festival celebrating the beginning of summer in Omelas, which is an annual event that has games and music playing in
the streets. At first Omelas seems like a perfect city that you would hear about in fairy tales. However, underneath this perfect like city is a dark
secret that no one talks about, yet everyone knows about it. There is a single locked room that holds a child in the dark and has to stay there so that
Omelas will have prosperity, beauty, and delight. "This is usually explained to children when they are between eight and twelve," (Guin 3) or when
they are able to comprehend why the child is in the locked room. Once they learn about the child they must face the question, will they stay in
Omelas where all is perfect or will "They leave Omelas, they walk ahead into the darkness, and they do not come back." (Guin 4)? The experience that I

The Theme Of Destructive Love Within Relationships,...
Destructive love The theme of destructive love within relationships in shakespeare's Macbeth and Bronte's Wuthering Heights are presented through
sexism, jealousy, and betrayal. This three factors are the main causes of broken relationships and arguments between the partners. A good example
would be the stories of Shakespeare's Macbeth and Wuthering Heights. Sexism, jealousy, and betrayal can also lead to death in a destructive love. Love
can be defined as an attraction of feelings, states, and attitudes that ranges from interpersonal affection to pleasure.
There are differential powers known as power dynamics at play in every type of relationships. In some partnerships there is an equal amount of power
and respect divided into it, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
("Stereotypes are to be found anywhere and nowhere in the world between the people") – Thomas pg.82 lines 43–45
The most important thing in any relationship is having confidence in yourself.
If there 's confidence in a relationship and believe in it, then there won 't be no need for any games to be played. Men can gain control in a
relationship by speaking up and setting clear boundaries. They have always been known to be the braves and courageous in those old time stories
that everyone has read about at some point in their lifetime. A good example would be Shakespeare's Macbeth, macbeth is the main character in the
story and he is known to fight for his kingdom and people, but there 's only one problem, he doesn 't have any control over his marriage. It 's normal
for the power dynamic to shift in a relationship. Men are also known to "wear the pants" in the relationship.( "In social life, socializing should be part
of the female and male gender") –David Galef, Wuthering Heights pg.243
Respect is the most important key in a relationship for it to be successful. Both partners should be respectful to each other, but men should take the
lead on it because mostly everyone in the family will look up to them. Women love to be treated with respect and get taken care of by their husbands.
Respect is basically the nicer way for men to gain control in their relationship. They should understand, comprehend, trust and respect their partner's

The Second Fish Bowl
As I started to grow up, I realized it would be best for me to hold in all of my feelings. The second fish bowl made some of my feelings comes to the
surface. After listening to the song Perfect, by Alanis Morissette I thought of my mom. The thoughts that were occurring in my head consisted of, not
being the best person I feel she wants me to be. After hearing,
"Sometimes is never quite enough
If you're flawless, then you'll win my love
Don't forget to win first place
Don't forget to keep that smile on your face"
It really hit home. Having to grow up the only girl who always got compared to my brothers, made it hard for me. I found myself fighting for my
mom's love and affection. To this day, I feel she will never love and cherish me as

Analysis Of Princess By Proxy : Explaining Extreme Pageant...
Parents often send their children mix signals by telling them they love them the way they are, they only want them to be happy, and later, on the
field they must win. These same parents go so far as to yell or even curse at the officials and even argue with other parents. Parents of today have a
growing pride in their children's accomplishments as if their children's' victory belongs to, in part the parents. Sometimes parental pride and
investment goes too far, and the child's victory belongs totally to their parents. This undue stress starts early in life and gets complicated later at a
time when the young teen is coping with changes they do not understand. This problem of living vicariously through their children is not isolated to
sports, it expands into the realm of music, dance and even pageantry. In Princess by Proxy: Explaining Extreme Pageant Moms (2012) the author
Martina M. Cartwright Ph.D., R.D. shared the findings of her research. Child beauty pageants have been a part of our society for over 160 years. This
strange fascination with dressing little girls with make–up and fancy clothes only to cast them out on a stage to be judged has claimed a corner of our
society. Not only do the kids, who at a very young age, are trained on how to walk, smile and pose. They are limited on a very controlled diet, so they
do not gain weight. Later given sweets as energy to get through the day's events. For these kids, being paraded and judged is just a routine.

The Characteristics Of The Mule : A Comparison
The Mule
Mules are patient, sensitive, independent, intelligent, and quick to learn. Their intelligence keeps them out of danger and their stubbornness comes
from their sensitivity. In many ways, these same traits are what a woman should carry. The mule in my life is my Mammaw Thompson; she is the most
stubborn woman I know, but I cannot read her mind, so I am sure that her stubbornness has a purpose. She is independent and does not require a man
to provide for her or her family as she has worked every day since she graduated high school until her retirement in the early 2000s. She has a voice
and is not afraid to use it, and she will speak for anything that she believes in, whether anyone likes it or not.
I have always had an understanding that my grandmother was a difficult person. It has always seemed as though she never saw eye to eye with
anyone except herself. I remember many fights that took place between her and mother, they got over it of course, or the times my family would be
sitting in the seats in the church sanctuary and I would hear her piercing voice interrupting the person that was that Sunday's speaker because she
disagreed with what he had to say or what the person said was a false statement. If someone did not know anything about my grandmother, they would
think that she is a batty, old, woman, but that is not my grandmother at all. My grandmother is so much more. She is so wise, and whenever I feel the
need to talk to her for advice, she is not afraid

the Web–enabled marketplace of ideas. – David Meerman Scott, author of The New Rules of Marketing and PR Business was good at HubSpot.
Founders Brian Halligan and Dharmesh Shah were thrilled with the progress their young company had made in the two years since they began their

Irony In Flannery O Connor's Good Country People
Unlike Alanis Morissette, Flannery O'Connor used irony in a much subtler fashion in her work. O'Conner's unique use of literary tools is one reason
she "is considered one of the best short story authors of the 20th century" (Biography.com ). O'Connor 's use of irony is especially evident in the
short–story "Good Country People." Equally important is O'Connor's use of clichГ©s. The typical clichГ© lacks any substance. Ironically, clichГ©s
expressed in "Good Country People" depict abstract ideas. O'Connor's unique combination of clichГ©s and irony forces readers discern deeper
concepts within the text. However, the readers' ability to grasp these concepts hinges on paying close attention to the character depictions of Mrs.
Hopewell, Hulga Hopewell, and Manely Pointer.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hopewell's character is restricted to the use of clichГ©s such as "that is life" and "nothing is perfect" (O'Connor). Mrs. Hopewell's use of clichГ©s
extends beyond dialogue. For Mrs. Hopewell, clichГ©s represent her frame of mind. Mrs. Hopewell "implies that she has an optimistic nature and is
always hoping for the best" (Kirk 73). Although harmless on the surface, this perspective makes Mrs. Hopewell blindly optimistic. Throughout the short
story, Mrs. Hopewell correlates good country people to "the salt of the earth". Mrs. Freeman and her two daughters, Glynese and Carramae, are her
primary examples of "good country people." Mrs. Hopewell does not miss an opportunity

can be defined as a belief someone should be able to achieve a goal in the future. These expectations may affect how people shape their perception
and experience. Different goals that people set because of the expectation may cause people to make decisions based on what society thinks best and
not on an individual's choice. But it can also inspire and help people strive for the goals that people set up. To start off, one of the expectations

Anorexia Nervosa Essay
Introduction Anorexia nervosa is a psychological disorder in which a person has an abnormal eating behavior, to be able to lose weight. The word
anorexia nervosa was first used in 1873, by one of Queen Victoria's physicians known as Sir William Gull. There are two types of anorexia which are
the restricting type and the binge–purge type. According to the medical term, this disorder is said to be lack of appetite (Kaye, 2009, p.450). A
person who is suffering from anorexia has a fear of gaining weight. This prompts them to do whatever it takes to lose weight. Anorexia is mostly

Anorexia can also be prevented by doctors, they can educate the public about this disorder and how to avoid it. Anorexia has many signs and
symptoms which could be identified and treated. History of anorexia Anorexia might have begun during the Hellenistic era when religious fasting
was introduced to the people. Some of the well known historical figure women, who are believed to also have had this disorder are Mary queen of
Scots and Catherine of Siena. Fasting was first practiced for religious purposes by women to maintain their purity. In the 13th century, the Catholic
Church was the one that experienced many women starving themselves so that they can be claimed saints. In the case of Catherine Siena in the
14th century, the church began to worry over her extreme starvation. This made the church ask her to pray to God so that she would be able to eat
again. In 1689, anorexia was first used medically by the physician Richard Morton. One of the patients of Richard who had this disorder was an 18
year old girl who died 3 months later from starvation (Friedman, 1984, p.702). One of the first male patients was Noah Webster who was a student at
Yale College. His reason for not eating was because he thought that by eating his mind would be dulled. In the 19th century, is when anorexia was
proclaimed as a medical condition. William Gull published a paper which detailed about the disorder and how it should be treated. In the 20th

Situational Irony Research Paper
Situational Irony
Ever heard the song "Ironic" by Alanis Morissette? Really big in the early 00's but anyway, that's beside the point. It has terribly "ironic" situations
like a man buying a lottery ticket at age 98 then dying the next day, 10,000 spoons when all you need is a knife, and meeting the man of your dreams,
then meeting his beautiful wife. It's like rain on your wedding day, it's a free riiiiiide when– you get the point right? But if you really look into the
lyrics, they really aren't that deep or ironic and are just really crappy situations. Quick question, do you know what Irony is? Let alone situational irony?
Well, actual irony is when what you get is the opposite of what you expect, while situational irony is self explanatory:... Show more content on

Like in the aforementioned example about suspense, sometimes those with mocking minds can find situations like that humorous. A simple huff of
annoyance or nervous laugh can happen. Other times sheer ridiculousness can cause a chuckle and a shake of the head.
Situational irony is used frequently in literature, entertainment like movies and t.v. shows, and in everyday life. It has many functions like emphasizing
the truth by highlighting the opposite, highlighting a lesson or truth, and creating suspense and humor.
Now that you know a bit more about situational irony, the only true ironic situation in "Ironic" is the scenario where "Mr. Play–it–safe was afraid to
fly, he packed his suitcase and kissed his kids goodbye..." because background information was given to prove the irony. Now, if you look into the
grander scheme of things, it all really is ironic because of the lack of irony. do you think "Ironic" not actually being ironic, which is what made it
ironic, was what Alanis had intended? After all, being such a highly educated woman like Alanis, you can't really believe she would've made such a
blatant mistake or else the whole situation would be...

Identity Reflection Paper
How do you define your own identity? This is a question I have never had to consider much before. In the beginning I just simply though, I am who I
am. But soon after, I began to deeply contemplate this question over and over and over again in my mind. I started to peel back the layers of me and
tried to understand what defined me as me, both to myself, individual identity, and the outside world, group identity.
Group identity is how the world sees you. The "boxes" we are put in because of age, or appearance, or race. Group identity is black and white and
focuses on our similarities and who we are in relation to everyone else. Rather than celebrating what makes each of us unique, different, and special, I
see group identity as narrow, shallow, and restricting. I express my group identity as being: female, caucasian, from the Goulds, Newfoundland,
twenty–six years old, brown wavy hair, blue eyes, five feet and seven inches tall, middle class, dog owner, daughter, sister, girlfriend, and student. If
you broke me down into my most simple form, that is who I am.
My individual identity, on the other hand, is much more complex and something I myself am still trying to understand and evolve. I know I am
funny, caring, trustworthy, reliable, loyal, and kind. But those words can be used to describe millions of other people, so I needed to peel back
another layer and explore me more. I am clumsy, my room is always a mess but I myself am pretty organized, my biggest guilty pleasure trashy
reality television, terrified of all birds, a horrible speller, and the sound of other people eating makes me crazy. Ilove love in all it's forms. I love being
in love, I love seeing other people expressing their love, and I love being surrounded by the love of my family and friends. This appreciation of love
also makes me very soft hearted and susceptible to crying, usually on average, about two times a day. Disney movies, anything to do with weddings,
commercials, click bate videos online, hugs, songs, and even sometimes my own thoughts never cease to bring tears to my eyes. I am open minded,
understanding, humble, compassionate, and have a strong moral compass thanks to my mother and father. I recently was given a record player,

means of survival, having had to attend a high school in one of Washington, D.C's most dangerous neighborhoods. Cedric Jennings has had to isolate
himself from his peers so "he could stay on course and keep his sanity"(Suskind 293) in order to leave the neighborhood behind and pursue his dream
of attending an Ivy League school. When he does reach his dream of attending Brown University, he still holds the idea that isolation is the key of
survival. He still holds the idea that their is a battle between himself and his peers based on their different values or academic successes. As a result,
conflicts erupts by the fact Cedric won't give up his past and live toward the future or the now. Eventually he realizes that "being alone doesn't seem to
be working"(Suskind 293) anymore. One of the many conflicts during Cedric Jennings first year at Brown University is with his roommate Rob
Burton. Cedric and Rob come from different backgrounds with Rob being caucasian who comes from a privileged family having two doctors as
parents while Cedric is an African American who is raised by a single mother in a low income neighborhood. As a result, they start to clash with one

I Had A Pretty Normal Childhood
I had a pretty normal childhood. That's how these memoir type things start right, saying how wonderful your life was until the big bad mental illness
struck? Technically, I am not supposed to be writing in narrative form, just keeping a thought record for my session next week with my therapist, but
that gets a bit dull. I decided to write down everything from the beginning to keep myself entertained. My therapist isn't going to be happy about it, but
I am still a bit unclear about what automatic thoughts she wants me to write down, so this seemed like a good alternative. I mean, I didn't struggle to
get a degree in creative writing for nothing, right?
My childhood was far from remarkable. I grew up in Erie with my mom, dad, brother and dog. I know that Erie isn't considered a small town, but it
always felt small to me. Small and dull. Nothing was more exciting than going to Pittsburgh to visit my grandparents, they would take us to the
mall or the zoo. Just being in the city was exciting enough for me, I loved the feeling of being part of the crowd and at the same time being almost
invisible. After me and my brother both got to teenage years, we became best friends. We would joke and say that we were twins born two and a
half years apart. True, we don't agree on a lot of things and he is far more loud and outgoing than I am, but we work pretty well as a pair. My mom is
quiet, expect when she finally gets angry, and stayed at home with us. I guess that might be one of the

and so on" (Gilman 3). The wife feels like her husband is making her seem unintelligent and is trying to tell her that what she is feeling is not real.
This gives her reason to want to take a concrete form of revenge on her husband, which she does when the narrator says, "Now why should that man...

Through Hamlets desire for revenge on Claudius, Laertes need for revenge on Hamlet and Fortinbras commitment to get revenge on the state of
Denmark, concrete revenge is proven to be the most destructive. Throughout the entire play, Hamlet is looking to get revenge on Claudius for killing
his father and marrying his mother. He finally accomplishes his goal when he says "The point envenomed too! Then, venom, to thy work." (5.2. 323).
Hamlet's concrete revenge results in the death of Claudius which proves that concrete revenge is the most dangerous. While Hamlet is plotting his
revenge against Claudius, another character, Laertes, is planning revenge on Hamlet. Both Laertes' father and sister died due to Hamlet's actions.
Laertes gets his revenge on Hamlet when he says, "It is here, Hamlet. Hamlet, thou art slain/ No medicine in the world can do thee good" (5.2
315–316). Laertes gets his concrete revenge on Hamlet which results in another death, proving once again that concrete revenge is the most deadly.
Fortinbras' father lost a fight with King Hamlet, causing him to lose some of his land. Fortinbras gets revenge on Denmark due to the fact that almost
everyone in the Danish royal family dies. Fortinbras says, "For me, with sorrow I embrace my fortune/ I have some rights of memory in this kingdom
/ Which now to claim my vantage doth invite me" (5.2 392–394).

How to Write a Song Essay
"How to Write a Song" by Allyson Jones Think back to the last time you heard your favorite song. You plant your headphones on, close your eyes,
and completely immerse yourself in the music. You hang on to every word and every note, enchanted by the passionate vocals and addictive melodies.
But have you ever wondered what really goes into making a song? Every Songwriter uses different methods to compose a song. In fact, if you were to
type "how to write a song" in a Google search bar, you would get about 685 million results! When it comes to songwriting, the possibilities are endless.
After years of trial and error, I've come up with a simple, four step process on how to write a song. This process strikes a perfect balance between ...

Inspiration can strike at any time, so always be prepared to document your idea. This is where the recording device comes into play. The Inspiration
usually comes in the form of a melody. When a melody hits you, its important to record it as soon as possible. There's nothing worse than coming
up with a great melody while sitting on a train, or driving in rush hour traffic, and having no way to document it, so be prepared! Don't be afraid to
hum the melody into your recording device, or sing it in gibberish. At this point, words are not important. Next, you need to build upon the melody.
Decide what sort of vibe this melody portrays, and stick to it! Is it sad, happy, angry? Then use your instrument of choice, a guitar in my case, to
make a sample melody for the song. I use the words "sample melody" because It will be subject to change, depending on the lyrics and structure of
the song. You'll need that pen and paper for this next step. The next step, and by far the most important, is to write the lyrics. Lyrics can make or break
a song. Before writing the lyrics, it is important to ask questions: What are you trying to get across to the listener? What is the atmosphere of the
song? Are you telling a story? Once you've answered these questions, you can develop the theme of your song. You also have to consider the structure.
There are generally 4 components to a song: the verse, pre–chorus, chorus, and bridge. The opening line should grab the listener's

Speech In Hawaii Speech
OPVL Paragraph
According to the speech(primary source, an original document) given by a man named, Sanford J Dole, the Americans imperializing Hawai'i was a
constructive motion. This is because throughout the speech, Dole informs his audience on the benefits, the Hawaiians and Hawai'i would gain
through US imperializing Hawai'i. The speech was given on June 10th, 1900, at Iolani Palace, after Dole was elected to be the governor of Hawai'i.
The message Dole is conveying is that the day Hawai'i became a territory of the US, is an important day in Hawaiian history, as it was the day Hawai'i
was given the resources and connections required to increase its economy, and job and educational opportunities available. Hawaii's economy increasing
was evidenced when Dole stated, "..Products from Hawai'i.. will.. be exported to the US...without international sales tax..." The quote shows that
through being a part of the US, Hawaiians could export products grown in Hawai'i to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This would assist in boosting the economy, as while meeting the demand for the products, a large profit would be made from a small investment. A
potential increase in job opportunities was evidenced when Dole stated, "The US will..give the opportunities for Hawaiians to...guard this country in
the US army." The quote shows that due to the US imperializing Hawai'i, the door to new job opportunities with good payment opened. An example
of educational opportunities increasing was demonstrated when Dole stated, "We will build schools and a university...Hawaiians have the right to
education." This quote implies that after Hawai'i became a territory of the US, all Hawaiians regardless of their differences, would be entitled to
education. This would allow the citizens to have more choices when it comes to what they want to pursue in life. Since the speech is directed towards
the Hawaiians, the audience of the speech would be the citizens of Hawai'i, as the US imperialising Hawai'i would obviously

Adila Sedraia Research Paper
Peter Winsauer Mr. Radelet French I, 4A September 7, 2014 Indila Adila Sedraia was born in 1984 on June 26 in Paris, France. At the age of 30 years
old now, she is married to Pascal Koue (age 35), who is a singer/songwriter also known as Skalpovic or simply DJ Skalp. Even though she has been
around for a few years, there are large gaps in her childhood or personal life because she tends to try to avoid these types of personal questions from the
press. Adila Sedraia, or her stage name Indila, first appeared in the French R&B music world as early as 2010. Starting off her career, she did a lot of
co–writing music, as well as singing as a featured artist with many French rap stars. "PoussiГЁre d'empire" by Nessbeal, "Criminel" by TFL (a music
group she joined around 2010),... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is considered her biggest hit in her music career so far with a total of 100 million music video views, and it also came out in the French SNEP
as 2nd at its peak point. The album Mini World, which included "Derniere danse" along with other songs like "Tourner dans le vide," "S.O.S.," and
"Mini World," was produced a short while after her hit song was released. Like her first single, this album shot to the top of the French SNEP, and
ended up getting Platinum record 3 times in France and other certifications in Belgium and Poland. In her album Mini World, many of her songs are
based on love stories, about getting cheated on or forgotten or just showing affection. She includes in many of her songs twists of many different
styles of music, based around her Egyptian, Algerian, Cambodian, and Indian blood descent. Indila has become a big single hit, just like Pharrell
Williams in America, and she still has a long music career of songwriting and singing ahead of her to do even

Allowed In School
Cell Phones: Should They Be Allowed in School There are 7 billion people in the world and estimated out of those 7 billion, 6 billion have access to
cell phones. Cell phones we all use in our daily life and that includes in school. There is an ongoing argument on whether or not schools should allow
students to have cell phones. Even though Cell phones can be distracting in school, schools generally use new technology, most schools are switching
to technology and cell phones are a teaching tool. Schools generally grapple with new technology, but cell phones reputation as a nuisance. In source 2,
paragraph one, it states "Beginning in March, New York City, the largest school district in the country with 1.1 million students will be reversing

Source 4, paragraph 5 states "Some 88 percent of American teens ages 13 to 17 have or have access to a mobile phone, and a majority of teens (73
percent) have smartphones, according to a Pew Research Center "study released in April. Ninety– two percent of teens report going online daily, with
more than half saying they're online several times a day. Twenty–four percent say they do so "almost constantly." Also in source 4, paragraph 6 states
"It's a complex issue, especially since the debate over cell phones is part of a broader conversation about a cultural shift underway in classrooms – a
move away from the traditional model of teachers imparting information to students, to one where students actively participate in their own learning,
using mobile devices to access the Web, educational apps, and other tools." This shows how schools are willing to make a change. Finally in Source 4
paragraph 7, At Melrose High School, science students use a physics app to collect acceleration data and measure sound intensity, and English students
discuss literature on their smartphones, also in Burlington, high school Spanish students practice language skills on their iPads by recording their
speech and playing it

Flights Of Sex In 'Leda And The Swan'
Chapter 15: Flights of Fancy The main idea of this chapter is freedom. Foster depicts freedom as flying. Similar to Icarus, there is a story of a young
lad named Phaeton. Phaeton believes that he is the son of Apollo so he tracks him down. Apollo offered to grant Phaeton one wish since he traveled
so far to get there and he wished to ride Apollo's chariot. Apollo tries to warn Phaeton but being a naive little boy he doesn't care about the risks. So
Phaeton takes the chariot up but it turns out to be a disaster, so much so that Zeus had to stop it ultimately killing Phaeton. In both stories, the naive
children end up dead.
Chapter 16: It's All About Sex . . . The main idea of this chapter is sex and how it is a crucial aspect of life. Even though it is a crucial aspect in life, in
literature, sex doesn't always look like sex. There is a rather weird Greek story that has a sexual aspect to it. In "Leda and the Swan,"
Zeus turns himself into a swan and goes to Leda for protection from an eagle. Zeus manages to have sex with her, in some versions he rapes her,
and she becomes pregnant. Later on she lays two eggs. Now sex can be incorporated into songs as well, for example Dance for you by BeyoncГ©.
The lines "Tonight I'm gonna put my body on your body. Boy I like it when you watch me. Tonight it's going down." don't specifically describe the
sexual act but by the wording you can tell that she is referring to sex.
Chapter 17: . . . Except Sex The main idea of this chapter is

Should We Listen For Music?
In the years since then we've all– adapted and evolved as consumers and corporations must. We are all perpetually available. I now speak for an
'unlimited' amount of minutes daily with no surcharge, wherever I may find myself. More likely then not, I (along with the, "44% of us who report
using our smartphones to listen to music in a typical week") might instead be texting while streaming a movie or song or perhaps downloading files to
review on the small computer (aka smart phone) I carry around in my pocket. According to Neilson's annual study of music listeners, "91% of the
national population listens to music, spending more than 24 hours each week tuning into their favorite tunes." (cite)
We listen to music and we continue to listen to a lot of it. While Americans streamed more than 164 billion on–demand tracks across audio and video
platforms in 2014, they streamed 135 billion in the first half of 2015 alone – up more than 90% from the same period last year.
The advance of the internet has affected almost every industry and the music business is no exception. When people reference the music business we
might first think they are speaking only of record labels. The music business however is a bit more expansive of a definition. "The music industry
consists of the companies and individuals that make money by creating and selling live music performances, sound recordings and music videos of
songs and instrumental pieces." (Cite) Over the past decade you may have heard

Alanis Morissette's Life Is So Irony
Life is so ironic. Don't you think?? I mean, a little too ironic... and, yeah I really do agree with the words of Alanis Morissette. She did manage to
win multiple Grammy awards for her "Ironic" song that described the numerous life paradoxes that so many of us found ourselves not only able to
sing a long to but able to relate to in some way or another. Sunny days wouldn't be so special if it wasn't for rain. Joy simply wouldn't feel so good if it
wasn't for pain. I believe it takes real sadness to know real happiness, noise to appreciate silence and absence to value presence. Appreciation is a
critical skill. I believe it is mastered by understanding. Beauty is everywhere but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. To me, life is beautiful.

Examples Of Irony In The Great Gatsby

  • 1. Examples Of Irony In The Great Gatsby As Alanis Morissette describes in the song "Ironic", an old man turned ninety–eight. He won the lottery and died the next day. Isn't it ironic? As stated in Cambridge English, irony is a method of writing in which there is a noticeable , sometimes humorous, and the difference between what is said and the intended meaning. Numerous examples of irony are used in American literature to bring stories to life and create a theme. In this paper, three different examples of irony will be discussed to show how the author provides richness to the literature and creates a theme. One example of irony in American literature can be found in The Great Gatsby. "Only Gatsby, the man who gives his name to this book, ... represented everything which I have an ... • 2. Highly Sensitive Research Paper A highly sensitive person has high sensitivity to the world around them. High sensitivity, also called sensory processing sensitivity, is a completely normal trait that affects between 15 to 20% of the population, or 1.4 billion people, according to experts on the subject. People can have a lot of success despite being highly stimulated by the world around them. For example, Alanis Morissette has openly talked about how she is a highly sensitive person and often felt misunderstood and misperceived, but that hasn't stopped her from doing some great things in this world. It's interesting that being highly sensitive is not limited to humans. Biologists have discovered this trait in over 100 species, including dogs, horses, and even birds. We tend to use the term 'highly sensitive person' as a bad label for someone. For instance, we might call... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They See And Feel The Beauty In Life More Intensely Many people who are highly sensitive have an appreciation for music, art, love, and joy that people who are not don't feel. The thought of something beautiful, like true love, can bring tears to their eyes and resonate deeply into their soul. People who are highly sensitive find that they are moved by the beauty of nature. The trees, the mountains, the rivers, the oceans, and the animals in nature all touch a chord in them that makes them feel love, peace, and gratitude more intensity. Moreover, they notice the subtle things in life more, such as the little flower that goes unnoticed by other people. They cherish those little things, and they are the people who inspire others to stop and smell the roses! 4. They Have Deeper Conversations And Interactions With Others People who are highly sensitive find it easier to talk about important things. They may not find small talk, such as the weather, that important. But, when they hear about something that has some deeper meaning about life, love, or emotions, they are more likely to participate in the

  • 4. Taylor Swift: A Career In Country Music Introduction to Taylor Swift: Taylor Swift is a brilliant pop star that began her career in country music. She has just finished her 1989 World Tour, and continues to top charts and receive awards for the popularity of her music. Taylor Swift is very much a reflection of American culture and her generation; she is ever changing, thriving, and has taken charge of making a place in this world for herself. Her musical style has changed a lot throughout the course of her career, but she has remained true to the feelings her music evokes, therefore, her fan base has only grown with each new risk she has taken. Her "honest lyrics about real–life events" are what keep her success going. Taylor Swift is at the peak of her stardom, and it looks like ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This song utilizes a complex mix of melody, harmony, and beats. It is also paired with creative lyrics, and phrases that have become popular because of the song, such as, "Darling, I'm a nightmare dressed like a daydream." This song was such an epic success because it completely succeeded at being accessible, relatable, creative, original, but yet easy to understand. Good music is often a reflection of culture and society at the time, which is what makes it is so successful. The Influence of Taylor Swift: Taylor Swift has been very influential; not only through her music, but through how she carries herself as a person. Swift shows that it's okay to be confused, but it's important through times of confusion and pain, to remain true to one's self. Her music is so relatable to teenage girls and young women growing up that it makes her easy to identify as a role model and want to be like her. As a person, she has shown that is emotional vulnerable, but strong, and both are amazing qualities to want to have. Musically, Taylor Swift has inspired many aspiring singer/songwriters and talented composers. Selena Gomez admitted to finding courage to write her own music through Taylor Swift. Gomez's new songs even have a similar style to Taylor Swift's, showing that Swift was a prominent influence in her friend's ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Analysis Of The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas The Ones Who Walk Away or Stay The story of "The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas" is essentially the story about a primary ethical dilemma. That dilemma is whether you should achieve happiness and prosperity while someone suffers in order for you to have happiness and prosperity. Once you learn that someone has to suffer in order for you to have happiness and prosperity, will you let it continue and stay or will you leave? The people from "The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas" by Ursula K. Le Guin must decide whether to leave Omelas or stay, while I must decide whether to take a new job offer or stay. The short story begins with a festival celebrating the beginning of summer in Omelas, which is an annual event that has games and music playing in the streets. At first Omelas seems like a perfect city that you would hear about in fairy tales. However, underneath this perfect like city is a dark secret that no one talks about, yet everyone knows about it. There is a single locked room that holds a child in the dark and has to stay there so that Omelas will have prosperity, beauty, and delight. "This is usually explained to children when they are between eight and twelve," (Guin 3) or when they are able to comprehend why the child is in the locked room. Once they learn about the child they must face the question, will they stay in Omelas where all is perfect or will "They leave Omelas, they walk ahead into the darkness, and they do not come back." (Guin 4)? The experience that I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This three factors are the main causes of broken relationships and arguments between the partners. A good example would be the stories of Shakespeare's Macbeth and Wuthering Heights. Sexism, jealousy, and betrayal can also lead to death in a destructive love. If there 's confidence in a relationship and believe in it, then there won 't be no need for any games to be played. Men can gain control in a relationship by speaking up and setting clear boundaries. They have always been known to be the braves and courageous in those old time stories that everyone has read about at some point in their lifetime. A good example would be Shakespeare's Macbeth, macbeth is the main character in the story and he is known to fight for his kingdom and people, but there 's only one problem, he doesn 't have any control over his marriage. It 's normal for the power dynamic to shift in a relationship. Men are also known to "wear the pants" in the relationship.( "In social life, socializing should be part of the female and male gender") –David Galef, Wuthering Heights pg.243 Respect is the most important key in a relationship for it to be successful. Both partners should be respectful to each other, but men should take the lead on it because mostly everyone in the family will look up to them. • 10. Analysis Of Princess By Proxy : Explaining Extreme Pageant... Parents often send their children mix signals by telling them they love them the way they are, they only want them to be happy, and later, on the field they must win. These same parents go so far as to yell or even curse at the officials and even argue with other parents. Parents of today have a growing pride in their children's accomplishments as if their children's' victory belongs to, in part the parents. Sometimes parental pride and investment goes too far, and the child's victory belongs totally to their parents. This undue stress starts early in life and gets complicated later at a time when the young teen is coping with changes they do not understand. This problem of living vicariously through their children is not isolated to sports, it expands into the realm of music, dance and even pageantry. In Princess by Proxy: Explaining Extreme Pageant Moms (2012) the author Martina M. Cartwright Ph.D., R.D. shared the findings of her research. Child beauty pageants have been a part of our society for over 160 years. This strange fascination with dressing little girls with make–up and fancy clothes only to cast them out on a stage to be judged has claimed a corner of our society. Not only do the kids, who at a very young age, are trained on how to walk, smile and pose. They are limited on a very controlled diet, so they do not gain weight. • 11. The Characteristics Of The Mule : A Comparison The Mule Mules are patient, sensitive, independent, intelligent, and quick to learn. Their intelligence keeps them out of danger and their stubbornness comes from their sensitivity. In many ways, these same traits are what a woman should carry. The mule in my life is my Mammaw Thompson; she is the most stubborn woman I know, but I cannot read her mind, so I am sure that her stubbornness has a purpose. She is independent and does not require a man to provide for her or her family as she has worked every day since she graduated high school until her retirement in the early 2000s. She has a voice and is not afraid to use it, and she will speak for anything that she believes in, whether anyone likes it or not. I have always had an understanding that my grandmother was a difficult person. It has always seemed as though she never saw eye to eye with anyone except herself. I remember many fights that took place between her and mother, they got over it of course, or the times my family would be sitting in the seats in the church sanctuary and I would hear her piercing voice interrupting the person that was that Sunday's speaker because she disagreed with what he had to say or what the person said was a false statement. If someone did not know anything about my grandmother, they would think that she is a batty, old, woman, but that is not my grandmother at all. My grandmother is so much more. • 13. Irony In Flannery O Connor's Good Country People Unlike Alanis Morissette, Flannery O'Connor used irony in a much subtler fashion in her work. O'Conner's unique use of literary tools is one reason she "is considered one of the best short story authors of the 20th century" (Biography.com ). O'Connor 's use of irony is especially evident in the short–story "Good Country People." Equally important is O'Connor's use of clichГ©s. The typical clichГ© lacks any substance. Ironically, clichГ©s expressed in "Good Country People" depict abstract ideas. O'Connor's unique combination of clichГ©s and irony forces readers discern deeper concepts within the text. However, the readers' ability to grasp these concepts hinges on paying close attention to the character depictions of Mrs. Hopewell, Hulga Hopewell, and Manely Pointer.... Mrs. Hopewell "implies that she has an optimistic nature and is always hoping for the best" (Kirk 73). Although harmless on the surface, this perspective makes Mrs. Hopewell blindly optimistic. There are two types of anorexia which are the restricting type and the binge–purge type. According to the medical term, this disorder is said to be lack of appetite (Kaye, 2009, p.450). Anorexia can also be prevented by doctors, they can educate the public about this disorder and how to avoid it. Anorexia has many signs and symptoms which could be identified and treated. History of anorexia Anorexia might have begun during the Hellenistic era when religious fasting was introduced to the people. Some of the well known historical figure women, who are believed to also have had this disorder are Mary queen of Scots and Catherine of Siena. Fasting was first practiced for religious purposes by women to maintain their purity. In the 13th century, the Catholic Church was the one that experienced many women starving themselves so that they can be claimed saints. In the case of Catherine Siena in the 14th century, the church began to worry over her extreme starvation. This made the church ask her to pray to God so that she would be able to eat again. In 1689, anorexia was first used medically by the physician Richard Morton. One of the patients of Richard who had this disorder was an 18 year old girl who died 3 months later from starvation (Friedman, 1984, p.702). One of the first male patients was Noah Webster who was a student at Yale College. His reason for not eating was because he thought that by eating his mind would be dulled. • 17. Situational Irony Research Paper Situational Irony Ever heard the song "Ironic" by Alanis Morissette? Really big in the early 00's but anyway, that's beside the point. It has terribly "ironic" situations like a man buying a lottery ticket at age 98 then dying the next day, 10,000 spoons when all you need is a knife, and meeting the man of your dreams, then meeting his beautiful wife. It's like rain on your wedding day, it's a free riiiiiide when– you get the point right? But if you really look into the lyrics, they really aren't that deep or ironic and are just really crappy situations. Quick question, do you know what Irony is? Let alone situational irony? Well, actual irony is when what you get is the opposite of what you expect, while situational irony is self explanatory:... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Like in the aforementioned example about suspense, sometimes those with mocking minds can find situations like that humorous. A simple huff of annoyance or nervous laugh can happen. Other times sheer ridiculousness can cause a chuckle and a shake of the head. Situational irony is used frequently in literature, entertainment like movies and t.v. shows, and in everyday life. It has many functions like emphasizing the truth by highlighting the opposite, highlighting a lesson or truth, and creating suspense and humor. Now that you know a bit more about situational irony, the only true ironic situation in "Ironic" is the scenario where "Mr. Play–it–safe was afraid to fly, he packed his suitcase and kissed his kids goodbye..." because background information was given to prove the irony. Now, if you look into the grander scheme of things, it all really is ironic because of the lack of irony. do you think "Ironic" not actually being ironic, which is what made it ironic, was what Alanis had intended? • 18. Identity Reflection Paper How do you define your own identity? This is a question I have never had to consider much before. In the beginning I just simply though, I am who I am. But soon after, I began to deeply contemplate this question over and over and over again in my mind. I started to peel back the layers of me and tried to understand what defined me as me, both to myself, individual identity, and the outside world, group identity. Group identity is how the world sees you. The "boxes" we are put in because of age, or appearance, or race. Group identity is black and white and focuses on our similarities and who we are in relation to everyone else. Rather than celebrating what makes each of us unique, different, and special, I see group identity as narrow, shallow, and restricting. I express my group identity as being: female, caucasian, from the Goulds, Newfoundland, twenty–six years old, brown wavy hair, blue eyes, five feet and seven inches tall, middle class, dog owner, daughter, sister, girlfriend, and student. If you broke me down into my most simple form, that is who I am. My individual identity, on the other hand, is much more complex and something I myself am still trying to understand and evolve. I know I am funny, caring, trustworthy, reliable, loyal, and kind. But those words can be used to describe millions of other people, so I needed to peel back another layer and explore me more. I am clumsy, my room is always a mess but I myself am pretty organized, my biggest guilty pleasure trashy reality television, terrified of all birds, a horrible speller, and the sound of other people eating makes me crazy. Ilove love in all it's forms. I love being in love, I love seeing other people expressing their love, and I love being surrounded by the love of my family and friends. This appreciation of love also makes me very soft hearted and susceptible to crying, usually on average, about two times a day. Disney movies, anything to do with weddings, commercials, click bate videos online, hugs, songs, and even sometimes my own thoughts never cease to bring tears to my eyes. I am open minded, understanding, humble, compassionate, and have a strong moral compass thanks to my mother and father. I recently was given a record player, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 22. I Had A Pretty Normal Childhood I had a pretty normal childhood. That's how these memoir type things start right, saying how wonderful your life was until the big bad mental illness struck? Technically, I am not supposed to be writing in narrative form, just keeping a thought record for my session next week with my therapist, but that gets a bit dull. I decided to write down everything from the beginning to keep myself entertained. My therapist isn't going to be happy about it, but I am still a bit unclear about what automatic thoughts she wants me to write down, so this seemed like a good alternative. I mean, I didn't struggle to get a degree in creative writing for nothing, right? My childhood was far from remarkable. I grew up in Erie with my mom, dad, brother and dog. I know that Erie isn't considered a small town, but it always felt small to me. Small and dull. Nothing was more exciting than going to Pittsburgh to visit my grandparents, they would take us to the mall or the zoo. Just being in the city was exciting enough for me, I loved the feeling of being part of the crowd and at the same time being almost invisible. After me and my brother both got to teenage years, we became best friends. We would joke and say that we were twins born two and a half years apart. True, we don't agree on a lot of things and he is far more loud and outgoing than I am, but we work pretty well as a pair. My mom is quiet, expect when she finally gets angry, and stayed at home with us. I guess that might be one of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 23. Revenge In The Yellow Wallpaper In Charlotte Perkins Gilman's short story, The Yellow Wallpaper, the idea that revenge can be both concrete and abstract is seen throughout the text. The wife in this story wants to get back at her husband because he constantly makes fun of her illness and acts like it doesn't exist the husband, John, says, "that after the wall–paper was changed it would be the heavy bedstead, and then the barred windows, and then that gate at the head of the stairs, and so on" (Gilman 3). The wife feels like her husband is making her seem unintelligent and is trying to tell her that what she is feeling is not real. This gives her reason to want to take a concrete form of revenge on her husband, which she does when the narrator says, "Now why should that man... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Through Hamlets desire for revenge on Claudius, Laertes need for revenge on Hamlet and Fortinbras commitment to get revenge on the state of Denmark, concrete revenge is proven to be the most destructive. Throughout the entire play, Hamlet is looking to get revenge on Claudius for killing his father and marrying his mother. He finally accomplishes his goal when he says "The point envenomed too! Then, venom, to thy work." (5.2. 323). Hamlet's concrete revenge results in the death of Claudius which proves that concrete revenge is the most dangerous. While Hamlet is plotting his revenge against Claudius, another character, Laertes, is planning revenge on Hamlet. Both Laertes' father and sister died due to Hamlet's actions. Laertes gets his revenge on Hamlet when he says, "It is here, Hamlet. Hamlet, thou art slain/ No medicine in the world can do thee good" (5.2 315–316). Laertes gets his concrete revenge on Hamlet which results in another death, proving once again that concrete revenge is the most deadly. Fortinbras' father lost a fight with King Hamlet, causing him to lose some of his land. Fortinbras gets revenge on Denmark due to the fact that almost everyone in the Danish royal family dies. Fortinbras says, "For me, with sorrow I embrace my fortune/ I have some rights of memory in this kingdom / Which now to claim my vantage doth invite me" (5.2 392–394). ... Inspiration can strike at any time, so always be prepared to document your idea. This is where the recording device comes into play. The Inspiration usually comes in the form of a melody. When a melody hits you, its important to record it as soon as possible. There's nothing worse than coming up with a great melody while sitting on a train, or driving in rush hour traffic, and having no way to document it, so be prepared! Don't be afraid to hum the melody into your recording device, or sing it in gibberish. At this point, words are not important. Next, you need to build upon the melody. Decide what sort of vibe this melody portrays, and stick to it! Is it sad, happy, angry? Then use your instrument of choice, a guitar in my case, to make a sample melody for the song. I use the words "sample melody" because It will be subject to change, depending on the lyrics and structure of the song. You'll need that pen and paper for this next step. The next step, and by far the most important, is to write the lyrics. Lyrics can make or break a song. Before writing the lyrics, it is important to ask questions: What are you trying to get across to the listener? What is the atmosphere of the song? Are you telling a story? Once you've answered these questions, you can develop the theme of your song. You also have to consider the structure. There are generally 4 components to a song: the verse, pre–chorus, chorus, and bridge. The opening line should grab the listener's ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 25. Speech In Hawaii Speech OPVL Paragraph According to the speech(primary source, an original document) given by a man named, Sanford J Dole, the Americans imperializing Hawai'i was a constructive motion. This is because throughout the speech, Dole informs his audience on the benefits, the Hawaiians and Hawai'i would gain through US imperializing Hawai'i. The speech was given on June 10th, 1900, at Iolani Palace, after Dole was elected to be the governor of Hawai'i. The message Dole is conveying is that the day Hawai'i became a territory of the US, is an important day in Hawaiian history, as it was the day Hawai'i was given the resources and connections required to increase its economy, and job and educational opportunities available. An example of educational opportunities increasing was demonstrated when Dole stated, "We will build schools and a university...Hawaiians have the right to education." This quote implies that after Hawai'i became a territory of the US, all Hawaiians regardless of their differences, would be entitled to education. This would allow the citizens to have more choices when it comes to what they want to pursue in life. • 28. Flights Of Sex In 'Leda And The Swan' Chapter 15: Flights of Fancy The main idea of this chapter is freedom. Foster depicts freedom as flying. Similar to Icarus, there is a story of a young lad named Phaeton. Phaeton believes that he is the son of Apollo so he tracks him down. Apollo offered to grant Phaeton one wish since he traveled so far to get there and he wished to ride Apollo's chariot. Apollo tries to warn Phaeton but being a naive little boy he doesn't care about the risks. So Phaeton takes the chariot up but it turns out to be a disaster, so much so that Zeus had to stop it ultimately killing Phaeton. In both stories, the naive children end up dead. Chapter 16: It's All About Sex . . . The main idea of this chapter is sex and how it is a crucial aspect of life. Even though it is a crucial aspect in life, in literature, sex doesn't always look like sex. There is a rather weird Greek story that has a sexual aspect to it. In "Leda and the Swan," Zeus turns himself into a swan and goes to Leda for protection from an eagle. Zeus manages to have sex with her, in some versions he rapes her, and she becomes pregnant. Later on she lays two eggs. Now sex can be incorporated into songs as well, for example Dance for you by BeyoncГ©. The lines "Tonight I'm gonna put my body on your body. Boy I like it when you watch me. Tonight it's going down." don't specifically describe the sexual act but by the wording you can tell that she is referring to sex. Chapter 17: . . . Except Sex The main idea of this chapter is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Should We Listen For Music? In the years since then we've all– adapted and evolved as consumers and corporations must. We are all perpetually available. I now speak for an 'unlimited' amount of minutes daily with no surcharge, wherever I may find myself. More likely then not, I (along with the, "44% of us who report using our smartphones to listen to music in a typical week") might instead be texting while streaming a movie or song or perhaps downloading files to review on the small computer (aka smart phone) I carry around in my pocket. According to Neilson's annual study of music listeners, "91% of the national population listens to music, spending more than 24 hours each week tuning into their favorite tunes." (cite) We listen to music and we continue to listen to a lot of it. While Americans streamed more than 164 billion on–demand tracks across audio and video platforms in 2014, they streamed 135 billion in the first half of 2015 alone – up more than 90% from the same period last year. The advance of the internet has affected almost every industry and the music business is no exception. When people reference the music business we might first think they are speaking only of record labels. The music business however is a bit more expansive of a definition. "The music industry consists of the companies and individuals that make money by creating and selling live music performances, sound recordings and music videos of songs and instrumental pieces." She did manage to win multiple Grammy awards for her "Ironic" song that described the numerous life paradoxes that so many of us found ourselves not only able to sing a long to but able to relate to in some way or another. Sunny days wouldn't be so special if it wasn't for rain. Joy simply wouldn't feel so good if it wasn't for pain. I believe it takes real sadness to know real happiness, noise to appreciate silence and absence to value presence. Appreciation is a critical skill. I believe it is mastered by understanding.
