1. The Legend of the Sun and the Moon
The Sun and the Moon were mortal
lovers, their love was pure and
benign. How did this happen?
The legend says, that they met when
they were children, and when they
were teens they fell in love.
It is said that the Wind took
messages between them and this
was very important in their
relationship.
One day Aphrodite (goddess of the
beauty and love) observed those
mortals and felt jealous of their
love. She wondered “how can they
have such a great love?”
So, she decided to show them that
their love was not so great. She
went down at the Olympus (the
place where the gods live) and she
appeared in presence of the sun with
all her beauty and seduction’s
power, like no other woman can
handle like her.
2. But to Aphrodite’s surprise, the sun
said “you are the most beautiful
woman” and added “But my heart
belongs to the Moon, my ladylove
woman, because she is for me as
desired as the gold and as sweet as
the honey”.
Outraged Aphrodite because she
couldn’t tempt sun, she knew that
the love between them was stronger
that the Gods.
So, she ordered to separate them
forever.
She decided that the Sun would go
only by day and the Moon by night.
In this way, they won’t find
themselves and the love between
them will end.
But their love never finished.
Zeus tried to help the lovers to see
each other again, but he couldn’t
break Aphrodite’s order.
The only thing Zeus could do for
them was to make the moon appear
in the sky when the sun’s brightness
was the strongest, and therefore, the
lovers could see each other again.
3. The lovers overcame all the
barriers, and once every many
years, they joined.
This act of love, today we call it
“Eclipse”
