Case:
There was this girl in Manabí, age 15 who was chubby, but her classmates
made a lot of bad jokes about it, they called her “ugly fat” and more insulting
things. She got very affected psychologically because of the daily insults she
received. That leads to her want of changing school and asking her parents
for plastic surgery.
Her case was recognized as one of the 20 bullying
cases by the oficine of Portoviejo in 2013.
According to studies, 6 from 10 students suffer of
bullying.
In Ecuador, 64% of students from 8 to 17 years old, declared they have been
at least once in a fight, 57% destroyed things of others, and 69% bully the
younger ones.
In the 70s people thought violence was a normal thing, and that bullying was
part of growing up and being at school, people tolerated that a lot.
Fortunately, it passed from being normal to be a social problem.
Psychologists say that bullying has ever existed but they
didn’t denounce it. In nowadays, people don’t tolerate
this abuses anymore, so the label of “bullying” is heard
more often, and people express about their feelings and
thoughts.
