We are God's workmanship created in Christ Jesus to do good works. We are blessed for doing God's work. We are to speak and do. Faith without works is dead. Faith is shown by our works.
2. Ephesians 2:1-10 And you He made alive, who were dead
in trespasses and sins, 2 in which you once walked
according to the course of this world, according to the
prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in
the sons of disobedience, 3 among whom also we all once
conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the
desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature
children of wrath, just as the others. 4 But God, who is rich
in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved
us, 5 even when we were dead in trespasses, made us
alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved),
6 and raised us up together, and made us sit together in
the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 that in the ages to
come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in
His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8 For by grace you
have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves;
it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should
boast. 10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ
Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand
that we should walk in them.
3. GOOD WORKS
A. Created to do good works - Eph 2:8-10 For by
grace you have been saved through faith, and
that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not
of works, lest anyone should boast. For we are
His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for
good works, which God prepared beforehand
that we should walk in them.
B. Blessed by doing God’s work - James 1:25 But
he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and
continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but
a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in
what he does.
C. We are to speak and do - James 2:12 So speak
and so do as those who will be judged by the
law of liberty.
4. GOOD WORKS
D. Faith without works is dead - James 2:14-
17 What does it profit, my brethren, if
someone says he has faith but does not
have works? Can faith save him? 15 If a
brother or sister is naked and destitute of
daily food, 16 and one of you says to
them, "Depart in peace, be warmed and
filled," but you do not give them the
things which are needed for the body,
what does it profit? 17 Thus also faith by
itself, if it does not have works, is dead.
5. GOOD WORKS
E. Faith is shown through our works - James 2:18-
24 But someone will say, "You have faith, and I
have works." Show me your faith without your
works, and I will show you my faith by my works.
19 You believe that there is one God. You do well.
Even the demons believe--and tremble! 20 But do
you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without
works is dead? 21 Was not Abraham our father
justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on
the altar? 22 Do you see that faith was working
together with his works, and by works faith was
made perfect? 23 And the Scripture was fulfilled
which says, "Abraham believed God, and it was
accounted to him for righteousness." And he was
called the friend of God. faith only. 24 You see then
that a man is justified by works, and not by faith
only.
6. I. GOD IS GLORIFIED BY
GOOD WORKS
A. Good works make us worthy of the Lord - Col.
1:10 that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully
pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work
and increasing in the knowledge of God;
B. We glorify God by our good works - Matthew
5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that
they may see your good works and glorify your
Father in heaven.
C. God planned for us to do good works - Ephes.
2:10 For we are His workmanship, created in
Christ Jesus for good works, which God
prepared beforehand that we should walk in
them.
7. II. GOOD WORKS IMPRESS
OTHERS
A. Good works can’t be hidden - 1 Tim. 5:25 Likewise,
the good works of some are clearly evident, and
those that are otherwise cannot be hidden.
B. Good works are impressive to others - Romans 13:3
For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to evil.
Do you want to be unafraid of the authority? Do
what is good, and you will have praise from the
same.
C. Good works are talked about by others -1 Tim. 5:10
well reported for good works: if she has brought up
children, if she has lodged strangers, if she has
washed the saints' feet, if she has relieved the
afflicted, if she has diligently followed every good
work.
8. III. GOD PREPARES US FOR
GOOD WORKS
A. God will see that we have what we need for good
works - 2 Cor. 9:8 And God is able to make all grace
abound toward you, that you, always having all
sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for
every good work.
B. God establishes us in good works - 2 Thes. 2:17
comfort your hearts and establish you in every good
word and work.
C. God’s word equips us for good works - 2 Tim. 3:17
that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly
equipped for every good work.
D. God can make us complete in good works -
Hebrews 13:21 make you complete in every good
work to do His will, working in you what is well
pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to
whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.
9. IV. WE SHOULD BE CHARACTERIZED
BY GOOD WORKS
A. Good works should be a regular part of our lives
- Titus 2:7 in all things showing yourself to be a
pattern of good works; in doctrine showing
integrity, reverence, incorruptibility,
B. We should have a strong desire to do good
works - Titus 2:14 who gave Himself for us, that
He might redeem us from every lawless deed
and purify for Himself His own special people,
zealous for good works.
C. We should be ready for every good work - Titus
3:1 Remind them to be subject to rulers and
authorities, to obey, to be ready for every good
work,
10. IV. WE SHOULD BE CHARACTERIZED
BY GOOD WORKS
D. We should maintain good works
1.Titus 3:8 This is a faithful saying, and these
things I want you to affirm constantly, that
those who have believed in God should be
careful to maintain good works. These things
are good and profitable to men.
2.Titus 3:14 And let our people also learn to
maintain good works, to meet urgent needs,
that they may not be unfruitful.
E. We should use our riches to do good works - 1
Tim. 6:18 Let them do good, that they be rich in
good works, ready to give, willing to share,
11. V. SIN INTERFERES WITH
OUR GOOD WORKS
A.We must be cleansed from sin to do good
works effectively - 2 Tim. 2:21 Therefore if
anyone cleanses himself from the latter,
he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified
and useful for the Master, prepared for
every good work.
B.Sin disqualifies us for good works - Titus
1:16 They profess to know God, but in
works they deny Him, being abominable,
disobedient, and disqualified for every
good work.
12. VI. WE SHOULD ENCOURAGE
OTHERS IN GOOD WORKS
A. We should admonish others to do good works -
Hebrews 10:24 And let us consider one another in
order to stir up love and good works,
B. Our good works can cause others to glorify God - 1
Peter 2:12 having your conduct honorable among
the Gentiles, that when they speak against you as
evildoers, they may, by your good works which they
observe, glorify God in the day of visitation.
C. Our good works stir up others to do good works - 2
Corinthians 9:1-2 Now concerning the ministering
to the saints, it is superfluous for me to write to you;
2 for I know your willingness, about which I boast of
you to the Macedonians, that Achaia was ready a
year ago; and your zeal has stirred up the majority.
13. YOU AND GOOD WORKS?
A.Are you glorifying God by your good
works?
B.Are your good works influencing others?
C.Are you accepting God’s preparing you
for good works?
D.Is your life characterized by good work?
E. Is sin in your life disqualifying you for
good work?
F. Are you encouraging others to do good
works?
