This document discusses the relationship between faith and works in Christianity. It argues that true faith is demonstrated through works, and that we will be judged based on our deeds, not just our beliefs. Over several sections, it makes the case that: 1) Faith without works is dead; 2) Christians cannot separate their faith from their works; 3) Works are involved in our salvation process; and 4) We will be judged according to our deeds, not just our claimed faith. The overall message is that true saving faith in Christianity necessarily involves righteous actions and obedience to God's commands.

faith that saves
1.
2. Hebrews 11:1-6 Now faith is the substance of things
hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. 2 For by it
the elders obtained a good testimony. 3 By faith we
understand that the worlds were framed by the word of
God, so that the things which are seen were not made of
things which are visible. 4 By faith Abel offered to God a
more excellent sacrifice than Cain, through which he
obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying
of his gifts; and through it he being dead still speaks. 5
By faith Enoch was taken away so that he did not see
death, "and was not found, because God had taken
him"; for before he was taken he had this testimony,
that he pleased God. 6 But without faith it is impossible
to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe
that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who
diligently seek Him.
3. FAITH THAT SAVES
A. WE ARE SAVED BY FAITH - Ephesians 2:8-10 For
by grace you have been saved through faith, and
that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not
of works, lest anyone should boast. 10 For we
are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for
good works, which God prepared beforehand
that we should walk in them.
B. WHAT KIND OF FAITH SAVES US?
C. James 2:19 You believe that there is one God.
You do well. Even the demons believe--and
tremble!
4. I. TRUE FAITH WORKS
A. Galatians 5:1-6 Stand fast therefore in the liberty by
which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled
again with a yoke of bondage. 2 Indeed I, Paul, say to
you that if you become circumcised, Christ will profit
you nothing. 3 And I testify again to every man who
becomes circumcised that he is a debtor to keep the
whole law. 4 You have become estranged from Christ,
you who attempt to be justified by law; you have fallen
from grace. 5 For we through the Spirit eagerly wait for
the hope of righteousness by faith. 6 For in Christ Jesus
neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything,
but faith working through love.
B. James 2:22 Do you see that faith was working together
with his works, and by works faith was made perfect?
C. Hebrews 11 by faith…they did something - 16 times.
5. II. WE CAN’T SEPARATE OUR FAITH
FROM OUR WORKS
A. James 2:14-20 What does it profit, my brethren, if
someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can
faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is naked and
destitute of daily food, 16 and one of you says to them,
"Depart in peace, be warmed and filled," but you do not
give them the things which are needed for the body, what
does it profit? 17 Thus also faith by itself, if it does not
have works, is dead. 18 But someone will say, "You have
faith, and I have works." Show me your faith without your
works, and I will show you my faith by my works. 19 You
believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the
demons believe--and tremble! 20 But do you want to
know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead?
6. II. WE CAN’T SEPARATE OUR FAITH
FROM OUR WORKS
B. 1 Corinthians 15:58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be
steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of
the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the
Lord.
C. Colossians 1:10 that you may walk worthy of the Lord,
fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and
increasing in the knowledge of God;
D. 2 Thessalonians 1:11 Therefore we also pray always for
you that our God would count you worthy of this calling,
and fulfill all the good pleasure of His goodness and the
work of faith with power,
E. 1 Thessalonians 1:3 remembering without ceasing your
work of faith, labor of love, and patience of hope in our
Lord Jesus Christ in the sight of our God and Father,
7. III. DIFFERENCE BETWEEN WORKS OF
THE LAW AND CHRISTIAN WORKS
A. When Paul talks about law, he is referring to the law
of Moses – Judaizing teachers
B. Romans 9:31-32 but Israel, pursuing the law of
righteousness, has not attained to the law of
righteousness. 32 Why? Because they did not seek
it by faith, but as it were, by the works of the law.
For they stumbled at that stumbling stone.
C. Galatians 2:16 knowing that a man is not justified
by the works of the law but by faith in Jesus Christ,
even we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we might
be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of
the law; for by the works of the law no flesh shall be
justified.
8. III. DIFFERENCE BETWEEN WORKS OF
THE LAW AND CHRISTIAN WORKS
D. Galatians 3:1-14 O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched
you that you should not obey the truth, before whose eyes
Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed among you as crucified? 2
This only I want to learn from you: Did you receive the Spirit
by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? 3 Are
you so foolish? Having begun in the Spirit, are you now
being made perfect by the flesh? 4 Have you suffered so
many things in vain--if indeed it was in vain? 5 Therefore He
who supplies the Spirit to you and works miracles among
you, does He do it by the works of the law, or by the hearing
of faith?-- 6 just as Abraham "believed God, and it was
accounted to him for righteousness." 7 Therefore know that
only those who are of faith are sons of Abraham. 8 And the
Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by
faith, preached the gospel to Abraham beforehand, saying,
"In you all the nations shall be blessed.” >>>
9. III. DIFFERENCE BETWEEN WORKS OF
THE LAW AND CHRISTIAN WORKS
So then those who are of faith are blessed with believing
Abraham. 10 For as many as are of the works of the law
are under the curse; for it is written, "Cursed is everyone
who does not continue in all things which are written in
the book of the law, to do them." 11 But that no one is
justified by the law in the sight of God is evident, for "the
just shall live by faith." 12 Yet the law is not of faith, but
"the man who does them shall live by them." 13 Christ
has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having
become a curse for us (for it is written, "Cursed is
everyone who hangs on a tree"), 14 that the blessing of
Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus,
that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through
faith.
10. III. DIFFERENCE BETWEEN WORKS OF
THE LAW AND CHRISTIAN WORKS
E. 1 Corinthians 9:19-23 For though I am free from all
men, I have made myself a servant to all, that I might
win the more; 20 and to the Jews I became as a Jew,
that I might win Jews; to those who are under the law,
as under the law, that I might win those who are under
the law; 21 to those who are without law, as without
law (not being without law toward God, but under law
toward Christ), that I might win those who are without
law; 22 to the weak I became as weak, that I might win
the weak. I have become all things to all men, that I
might by all means save some. 23 Now this I do for the
gospel's sake, that I may be partaker of it with you.
11. III. DIFFERENCE BETWEEN WORKS OF
THE LAW AND CHRISTIAN WORKS
F. 1 Corinthians 15:10 But by the grace of God I am
what I am, and His grace toward me was not in
vain; but I labored more abundantly than they
all, yet not I, but the grace of God which was
with me.
G. Galatians 6:2 Bear one another's burdens, and
so fulfill the law of Christ.
12. IV. WORKS ARE INVOLVED IN OUR SALVATION
A. James 2:14-26 What does it profit, my brethren, if
someone says he has faith but does not have works?
Can faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is naked
and destitute of daily food, 16 and one of you says
to them, "Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,"
but you do not give them the things which are
needed for the body, what does it profit? 17 Thus
also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.
18 But someone will say, "You have faith, and I have
works." Show me your faith without your works,
and I will show you my faith by my works. 19 You
believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the
demons believe--and tremble! 20 But do you want
to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is
dead?
13. IV. WORKS ARE INVOLVED IN OUR SALVATION
B. James 2:21-26 Was not Abraham our father justified by
works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar? 22 Do
you see that faith was working together with his works,
and by works faith was made perfect? 23 And the
Scripture was fulfilled which says, "Abraham believed
God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness." And
he was called the friend of God. 24 You see then that a
man is justified by works, and not by faith only. 25
Likewise, was not Rahab the harlot also justified by works
when she received the messengers and sent them out
another way? 26 For as the body without the spirit is
dead, so faith without works is dead also.
C. Hebrews 5:8-9 though He was a Son, yet He learned
obedience by the things which He suffered. 9 And having
been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation
to all who obey Him,
14. IV. WORKS ARE INVOLVED IN OUR SALVATION
D. 2 Thessalonians 1:7-10 and to give you who are
troubled rest with us when the Lord Jesus is
revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, 8 in
flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not
know God, and on those who do not obey the
gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 These shall be
punished with everlasting destruction from the
presence of the Lord and from the glory of His
power, 10 when He comes, in that Day, to be
glorified in His saints and to be admired among all
those who believe, because our testimony among
you was believed. 1 Peter 1:22 Since you have
purified your souls in obeying the truth through the
Spirit in sincere love of the brethren, love one
another fervently with a pure heart,
15. V. WE WILL BE JUDGED BY OUR
DEEDS NOT BY OUR "FAITH"
A. Mat 16:27 "For the Son of Man will come in the
glory of His Father with His angels, and then He will
reward each according to his works.
B. John 5:28-29 "Do not marvel at this; for the hour is
coming in which all who are in the graves will hear
His voice {29} "and come forth; those who have
done good, to the resurrection of life, and those
who have done evil, to the resurrection of
condemnation.
C. 2 Cor 5:10 For we must all appear before the
judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive
the things done in the body, according to what he
has done, whether good or bad.
16. V. WE WILL BE JUDGED BY OUR
DEEDS NOT BY OUR "FAITH"
D. 1 Tim 6:17-19 Command those who are rich in this
present age not to be haughty, nor to trust in
uncertain riches but in the living God, who gives us
richly all things to enjoy. {18} Let them do good, that
they be rich in good works,'ready to give, willing to
share, {19} storing up for themselves a good
foundation for the time to come, that they may lay
hold on eternal life.
E. 1 Pet 1:17 And i f you call on the Father, who
without partiality judges according to each one's
work, conduct yourselves throughout the time of
your stay here in fear;
17. V. WE WILL BE JUDGED BY OUR
DEEDS NOT BY OUR "FAITH"
F. Rev 2:23 "I will kill her children with death, and all the
churches shall know that I am He who searches the minds
and hearts. And I will give to each one of you according to
your works.
G. Rev 20:12-13 And I saw the dead, small and great,
standing before God, and books were opened. And
another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And
the dead were judged according to their works, by the
things which were written in the books. {13} The sea gave
up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades
delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were
judged, each one according to his works.
H. Rev 22:12 "And behold, I am coming quickly, and My
reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his
work.
18. WHAT ABOUT YOUR FAITH?
A. Is your faith a working faith?
B. How much faith do your works show that
you have?
C. How will your works stand up in judgment?
