Research Paper On Ned Kelly
"A psychopathic criminal misfit who left a trail of destruction and misery in his wake." (Moor, 2013) Edward "Ned" Kelly (1854 – 1880) was a
convicted murderer, horse and cattle thief and bank robber as well as the leader of an infamous group of Australian outlaw bushrangers named the
'Kelly Gang'. He committed a large number of major crimes, terrorised the towns of Victoria by invoking fear and distress in citizens' hearts and
endangered hundreds of civilians' lives in his many ruthless exploits. Ned Kelly was a villain; an enemy of society who condemned the police for all his
wrongdoings.
The vast array of transgressions committed by Kelly clearly displays his strong sense of criminality. From 1870 to 1874, Kelly was arrested for
numerous charges including assault, theft and robbery and received a total of six and a half years' imprisonment. "In 1870, Kelly was convicted of
summary offences and imprisoned for six months. Soon after release he was sentenced to three years' imprisonment for receiving a mare knowing it
to have been stolen." (Barry, 1974) In 1877, he had stolen hundreds of stock by his own admission, claiming in the Jerilderie Letter that this was
caused by police persecution and that it was necessary to support his poverty–stricken family. However, these crimes remain inexcusable. "No one cares
that Kelly may have had a tough life. Almost every single person in the 19th century colony of Victoria had a tough life– and they didn't all become

Is Ned Kelly A Victim Or A Villain
Ned Kelly; victim, villain, hero
Ned Kelly, an Australian outlaw, made his way into Australian history books, but for what? The notorious villain or a victim of law. Many of his
actions made the public petrified at the sound of the name, yet others saw him as a beacon of light. Fighting for a fair police department. Although
Ned and his gang shoot dead three innocent police men this does not make him a villain, neither a victim. Ned showed aspects of a hero, villain and
victim throughout his life such as the robbery at the Jerilderie bank.
Ned Kelly was almost destined to turn to bank hold ups with his family cruelly misjudged by the Victorian police. Ned's mother was wrongly
accused of assaulting a police officer. Than she was sentenced to 3 years of jail and hard labour. Ned went around breaking the law to create a fairer
law. With the money, he had stolen, he gave to friends and family such as his mother who he paid bail for. He never stole from the poor but as such
gave back to the poor. "No doubt I am now placed in very peculiar circumstances and you might blame me for it but if you knew how I have been
wronged and persecuted you would say I cannot be blamed" Ned Kelly. In fact, Ned made sure his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Without the mortgages, it meant citizens didn't owe the bank anything. This portrays the true thoughts of Ned to give the poor a new lease of life;
equal to the rich. Don't forget after the capture of Ned 32,000 people signed a 'petition of reprieve'. This shows the positive affect Ned had on the
community. Another heroic act Ned did was when he was younger he saved a young drowning boy. This is just a substantial amount of evidence that

Analysis Of The Movie Rear Window
Rear Window directed by Alfred Hitchcock is revered as one of the greatest movies in American Cinema; every shot and plot point in the story
considered a work of art from the creative mind of the ambitious director. Due to this, it has been referenced many times in pop culture, TV shows,
amongst other forms of media. One of these TV shows is the long–running titan of cartoons, The Simpsons. The episode "Bart of Darkness" is a
parody of the whole movie, using the camera angles and plot points from the movie for comedic and mocking purposes, yet in its own peculiar way
pays homage to the source material and Hitchcock with respect.
The similarity between the episode and the movie isn't very apparent at the beginning, but the show does drop in some subtle hints at the beginning to
tell what it will be referencing later. The episode takes place during the peak of summer likeRear Window, and shows everybody suffering under it.
Lisa and Bart beg their parents to purchase a pool to beat the heat after going for a swim in Otto's mobile pool. But the most important piece of
evidence comes at a scene which can be written off as unimportant to the casual viewer. When the mobile pool stops abruptly in front of the
Simpson's house, water flows through the "rear window" into Otto's truck, to which he says, "I gotta replace that window", (Groening, Bart of
Darkness). It is a very subtle but clear case of foreshadowing to what the episode is going to parody later that the observant viewer can see and
appreciate.
The parody starts to become more obvious after Bart breaks his leg in a pool accident. He essentially becomes the L.B. Jeffries of the story
afterwards; bored, isolated, and with nothing better to do than to watch the world turn. He starts to watch other people go on with their mundane lives
with a telescope out of boredom until he comes across the neighbor Ned Flanders acting very suspiciously, who becomes like Thornwald in Rear
Window. The episode follows a similar storyline to that of the movie, with the wife gone for a long period of time and seeing both bury something in
the ground, which could be either be a body or a piece of crucial evidence. Bart and Jeff become so paranoid that they send their

Narrative Essay On Franky
Hanging out and trying to stay cool Chillz was relaxing at the bus stop waiting for his friend Franky to return. The big difference between now and
before was this time around Chillz was sipping on a 32 ounce of ice tea. This kept him nice and cool as he waited there for Franky to arrive. As he
sat back he watched traffic go by Chillz thinking, "I wonder where Franky is? I know it cannot take him this long to go and get my inhaler." As
soon as Chillz had finished that thought; in the distance he caught a glimpse of his buddy racing toward him. The funny thing was looking at
Franky; Chillz knew something was wrong as he saw the look in his eyes. Just by the panic on his face he knew something was up. Standing up to
greet his friend as soon as Franky got next to Chillz, he looked terrified yelling, "Dude we have a serious problem!" Not really understanding why
Franky was so upset Chillz replied, "Franky, what in the world is wrong with you? I think you have been riding your skateboard in the heat too
long." Stepping back Franky paused. This is where he began watching Chillz. Responding to his friend's behavior Chillz looked at Franky even

Historical Accuracy In The Film Ned Kelly, Directed By...
Ned Kelly (2003), directed by Gregor Jordan and starring Heath Ledger (Ned Kelly) and Orlando Bloom, is the film interpretation of the legendary
story of the Kelly gang. As this is a film, not a documentary, it is only moderately historically accurate. The three key events in this story in which
Jordan has attempted to maintain the truth to a reasonable extent are the incident with Constable Fitzpatrick, the shooting of Aaron Sherritt and the
Glenrowan shootout. However, there is also one major aspect of the film where Jordan has not endeavoured to uphold historical accuracy, and that is
Ned Kelly's love life. As the very purpose of a feature film is to entertain an audience, there is only a limited potential to which historical accuracy can

In actuality, the shootout takes place after the Kelly gang take 60 hostages at the Glenrowan hotel. When the police arrive, the outlaws put on their
famous steel armour, and start shooting at the police. During the shootout Ned is wounded in the foot, hand and arm and retreats into the bush, having
injured Superintendent Hare, the commander of the police proceedings that night. The other members of the gang withdraw to the hotel where they
are shot dead by police. Ned returns to Glenrowan at dawn and is quickly brought down, but not killed, with shots to his unprotected legs. In the film,
however, it is made to look as though the Kelly gang bring down many officers in the fight for their cause and also that Dan and Steve kill themselves
before the police can get to them. This event is historically accurate to a reasonable

Ned Kelly Quotes
Edward (Ned) Kelly was an infamous Australian bushranger of Irish descent that lived from 1854 to 1880. Black Snake is one of many pieces of
literature that has been written based on Ned Kelly's life. Black Snake is a historical fiction novel based on non – fictional events. Black Snake shows
different perspectives on what really happened, so the person could've slightly changed the story to back up their point of view. Carole Wilkinson is an
award– winning Australian author. All throughout Australian history there has been a continual debate on whether Ned Kelly was a hero or a villain.
This debate has good evidence for both sides, so it comes down to personal interpretation. In Black Snake, Wilkinson constructs Ned Kelly as a hero.
She portrays... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout Black Snake, Ned Kelly is described, using language, in a variety of ways. Some people, such as Superintendent Hare, felt very strongly
that Ned Kelly was a villain. "Ned Kelly was a flash ill–looking blackguard.... Notwithstanding all his boasted pluck and boasts, how game he would
die" (Pg. 127, Wilkinson, 2002). Others, such as Ned Kelly's mother (Ellen Kelly), felt very strongly that Ned Kelly was a hero and that police
mistreatment towards him and his family was what drove him to become an outlaw. "Think what the police have done to me and mine, and then tell
me if you wonder that the boys turned and smote the ones who had so persecuted them" (Pg. 128, Wilkinson, 2002) Others, such as Constable
Richards of Euroa, feel that Ned Kelly did commit wrongdoings and did break the law, but he was standing up for people that were struggling and
didn't have a voice and helping those being mistreated. "He was a bushranger but he was the gamest man I ever saw" (Pg. 129, Wilkinson, 2002).
The language techniques included in Black Snake are imagery and figurative language, language that can make a reader absorbed in a book and
finally, colonial words correct to that time period. In Black Snake, many words are used that can be defined as imagery and figurative language.
Imagery can be defined as the use of words to create a vivid mental

Dichotomy In Rear Window
Alfred Hitchcock once defined his film Rear Window (Hitchcock, 1954), as the story of a man who cannot move and looks through a window, about
what he sees and how he reacts to it (Truffaut, 1986). In addition, Hitchcock constructs the character of the protagonist of the film, Jeff (James
Steward), not only by using cinematographic devices to show how Jeff interprets what he sees and his own life, but also stabilising a dichotomy
between what he looks at and what he lives.
At the beginning of the film, a camera movement reveals JeffВґs profession and why he is immobilized in a wheel–chair. He is a photographer,
interested in looking at otherВґs lives; consequently, he could be described as a voyeur. Across a very limited space– the courtyard ... Show more

For those reasons, even when he is in a sweet moment with Lisa in his arms, he prefers looking at the outside of his apartment, and even he feels
more sexual attraction towards Miss. Torso (Georgine Darcy) through the window than towards Lisa, who is in his arms or more explicit, offering
herself in his sofa. Lisa – as Thorvald at the end, represents a menace and when he feels threatened, does not hesitate to take his binoculars (or even the
flash), as the only way to prevent danger.
To sum up, Hitchcock uses a film as Rear window to construct an allegory between reality and fiction. The end of the film is ambiguous because
although Jeff chooses real life, as he presents his back to the window and to the outside, the clash between reality and fiction has a price, if you
choose fiction probably, you could lose to live in a real society, but if you choose reality, you could lose your identity, as Jeff. So, inside this film,
there is not only one crime, but also other metaphoric murdered: Jeff, who has renounced to his fantasies to adapt himself in a conformed

How Do You Know You 've Witnessed A Murder?
How Do You Know You've Witnessed a Murder? This question is a perplexing one, and will be explored throughout the following text. However, first
a person must consider the value of a films translation of text into cinematic language. "A movie based on a literary source is often seen as a
secondary work, consequently, of secondary value" (Cahir). What makes this ideology present in our society? What makes one translation considered
more valuable than another? "Literature, generally, still occupies a more privileged position in the cultural hierarchy than movies do..." (Cahir). It is in
the translation versus adaptation of text to cinematic language that offers film its own identity. Adaptation equates to the transformation of written word

The creation of the characters of Stella and Lisa, afford Hitchcock the opportunity to radically translate specific aspects of Woolrich's story while
maintaining an overall traditional translation. There were two scenes where this radical translation was most evident, but first we must understand the
premise of the story. Both It Had to be Murder and Rear Window the stories can be considered psychological thrillers because they appeal to the
audience in a way that has them guessing what will happen next. The both appeal to the sense of community within American society, and how each
person should look out for the welfare of others, while concurrently managing to appeal to the taboo subject of voyeurism. The premise of the story
is a man, Jeffries, who is recuperating from an injury and is housebound in the hot summer months with little else to do other than observe his
neighbors out his rear apartment window. During his observations, he concludes that his neighbor Lars Thorwald has murdered his wife, and is
determined to prove it. In each story the supporting characters are utilized in Jefferies efforts to obtain the proof he seeks. The first scene I will
compare is the scene in which Jefferies witnesses Thorwald packing a trunk. Each rendition of this story has a different translation of this scene and
meaning behind the action. In Woolrich's It Had to be Murder, this scene's intent is to allow Jeffries insight to come as an

Film Critique
Many Australian films explore the concept of 'overcoming adversity', common to films from many countries but they explore it in a manner unique to
Australia and embrace the 'Aussie Battler' or 'Aussie Hero' icon. The films Gallipoli (Directed by Peter Weir– 1981) and Ned Kelly (Directed by
Gregor Jordan – 2003) are two good examples of this. Both films show evidence of characters overcoming adversities throughout their stories. The
following will analyse each film and explore the concept by looking at themes and film techniques.
The characters in the film Gallipoli, Frank and Archie, develop a very close friendship throughout their tough journey together. This special bond they
have helps them to overcome the terrible adversity of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was a common belief that all young men should represent and fight for their country in the war, or be judged and named selfish etcetera; therefore,
Archie and Frank felt they had to be a part of it and signed up. An adversity justly overcome by both characters. They also had to overcome the
terrifying adversity of fear to prove to themselves, and others, that they were able to deal with the hardship of warfare and suffering.
Likewise in Ned Kelly, the characters overcame the adversity of judgment from others by doing what they thought was the right thing to do – battling
for their rights, which in turn earned the respect of friends, some citizens and family. They attempted to overcome the adversity of discrimination
against the Irish held at the time by the majority of other Australians. Police treated them unfairly because of where they were from. Discrimination
causes a lot of tension between characters in the film. The outcome of this tension proves the main character, Ned Kelly, to be a true Aussie battler.
The most powerful scene of the film Gallipoli is the final scene. The musical score intensifies the struggle, despair and hopelessness of the situation. It
helps the audience to relate and feel sympathy towards the character. This scene is depicts the character overcoming his adversity of fear and
becoming and 'Aussie hero' as he runs into battle however, even though he has overcome his fear, it does not end well. The music

Ned Kelly: Villain Or Victim?
Is Ned Kelly, a hero? A, villain? Or is he a victim? Many people have a different opinion on this topic. There is no doubt that Ned Kelly was a hero and
a victim because he was one of the Australian greatest bushranger, who not only outsmarted the police but also stood up for his family's rights. In
recent years' opinion has become much more divided on the issue of Ned Kelly a villain or victim. There is no doubt that Ned was a victim there are
many reasons to this. Firstly, when Ned was just a boy his father died so as the oldest in the family he took the role of head of the family for some
years. Secondly, Ned was a bank robber and a thief, but do you know why? He was a bank robber and a thief for his family, his mother who was put in

How Did Knockout Rand Become A Gang Leader
In the movie of "City of God" directed by Fernando Meirelles, Knockout Ned chooses a path that creates a question if Knockout Ned's reason for
becoming a gang leader make his violent actions more acceptable or is Knockout Ned just as unethical/horrible as Lil'Ze by the end of the film.
This essay will prove that Knockout Ned's reasons for becoming a gang leader make his violent actions more acceptable. It will be proved by the
following three points: firstly, Knockout Ned's motives for becoming a gang leader and engaging in warfare are different from Lil'Ze's. Secondly,
even after becoming a gangster, Knockout Ned does not misuse his power. Lastly people's behavior towards Knockout Ned are different than any other
gangsters. Knockout Ned's... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example: when Knockout Ned shot one of Lil'Ze's gang member. People in the city of gold tell him "God bless you. The kid went looking for

they are not scared of him and they were trying to protect him. In this movie, this kind of thing never happened with any other gangster where
people praised them for killing someone. Even before when Knockout Ned was not a gangster, people's behavior toward Knockout Ned were very
different. For example: when Rocket and his friend thought about robbing Knockout Ned but they do not do it because they like what Knockout tells
them. "Study, only this way you can leave the ghetto" (Mantovani 20) and "I am peaceful. But if I have to..." (Mantovani 20). This quote shows that
how Knockout Ned's way of talking changed Rocket and his friend's behavior toward him. They were about to do something illegal but when they
heard Knockout Ned, they did not feel to rob him. This also shows that Knockout Ned is the only person in the movie, who would encourage kids to

offered for the capture of Ned Kelly, Dan Kelly, Joseph Byrne and Stephen Hart, collectively known as the Kelly Gang. The poster was printed in
1879, signed by the Colonial Secretary of New South Wales, Henry Parkes and the Attorney–General of Victoria, Bryan O'Loghlen. The poster was
likely created through the cooperation of the Colonial Governments of Victoria and New South Wales at the time in order to show a united front

Through increasing the reward to such a significant amount and flooding the public eye with images of the gang, the Colonial Governments could
attempt to decrease the support base which the gang could utilise to hide from the law by turning the Robin Hood status of the gang into one of
murderous outlaws.
Through understanding why the poster was created and published, there are two separate groups of people which the poster can be seen as being
aimed at reaching. The first group of people were the poorer Irish population of the two colonies, which provided the key part of the support
network which sheltered and aided the Kelly Gang during their time on the run, commonly known as the Bush Telegraph. This demographic was
targeted in an attempt to remove this support network and was probably seen by these people with mixed reactions. The support network over the
gangs two year crime spree remained strong, however, towards the end of their time on the run, they found themselves increasingly isolated as police
pressure and the promise of reward swayed several key supporters. A prime example of the offer of money and reward turning key Kelly Gang
supporters against them is the betrayal of Aaron Sherritt who informed on the gang in an attempt to claim a reward. Secondly, the poster can be seen to

Ned kelly was a bushranger who created his own metal armor. He went around stealing people's money and other possessions. He would threaten
people with a gun and say "I am Ned Kelly", he was a wanted man. None of the police officers could catch him. He did this all for revenge.
When he was a boy, living with his family, his father was working hard to create a living but could not earn enough money to buy food for his big
family. One day he decided to try and steal food for his family but the police caught him. He was sentenced to 6 months hard labour as a convict. While
his father was being arrested Ned Kelly stood watching. This was the second time he had attempted to steal. While Ned Kelly's father was away Ned
decided to take charge and become the man of the house.
One day Ned was walking down the street when he noticed a boy drop his hat in the river and jump in after it. He was being taken by a current and

Peter Temple the Broken Shore Views and Values Essay
THE BROKEN SHORE
Peter Temple's acclaimed crime fiction novel 'The Broken Shore' chronicles the unfolding of a murder investigation on the rugged Victorian coastline
through the eyes of a morally flexible small town cop. The novel showcases the complex social structures apparent in contemporary rural Victoria,
particularly focusing on the often shaky relations between anglo and indigenous Australians. It also addresses the segregation between the have's and the
have not's within society and the institutions that separate the social classes and explores the intricacies of the arguably broken Australian/Victorian
legal system. Temple uses Joe Cashin, his lone–crusader type protagonist, to assert his view that the justice system ... Show more content on

Through the commentary of characters like Cashin and Cecily Addison, who are both relative outsiders in Cromarty, Temple is able to convey a
fictional first hand view of the insular society that holds in high esteem the likes of Charles Bourgoyne and Helen Castlemen, as they are moneyed,
educated and challenge the stereotypical country hick labels that are often collectively placed on citizens residing in rural areas. Through the use of
Cashin and Cecily, Temple is also able to construct an unbiased observation of how these same areas discriminate against the, often indigenous and/or
low socio economic, down trodden members of society and ostracise them both physically, through the demarkation line that tells indigenous
Australians where they can and cannot live, restricting them to the "Daunt settlement", and also intellectually, through the copious use of words like
"coon" and "nigger" in regard to the "blackfellas". Surprisingly it is not only the bogan–esque beach bums who assert their politically incorrect and
blatantly racist attitudes towards the indigenous residents. Members of the working class like Hopgood and his team for example also exhibit
prejudice against the Aboriginals and contrary to the traditional 'innocent 'til proven guilty' notion it seems to be more of a 'guilty 'til proven innocent'
situation when the young "coons" are suspected of robbing and murdering Bourgoyne. This is perhaps the product of how the parochialism of small

Essay about Ned Kelly-Hero or Villain?
Edward Ned Kelly was Australia's most famous bushranger; regarded by many as a hero who fought "for the rights of the battler." Whether Ned
Kelly was a hero, however, has been debated throughout Australia's history. Evidence shows that Ned was a murderous villain who terrorised
towns and robbed wealthy pastoralists; a man who broke the law and committed an array of crimes that were both evil and immoral. Ned Kelly
was a villain; an outlaw and thief who is wrongly immortalised as an Australian hero. Ned Kelly was the leader of a lawbreaking group of criminals
named the 'Kelly Gang;' a group established in 1876 that included Ned, his brother Dan, and their two friends Steve Hart and Joe Byrne. Ned was a
significant figure in this gang;... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The culminating events of Ned Kelly's life led to the gruesome murder at Stringybark Creek; when Ned knowingly murdered three innocent
policemen. This incident occurred in October, 1880 when a group of policemen were searching for Ned and his brother Dan near the Wombat
Ranges. This small contingency of officers included Sergeant Kennedy and Constables McIntyre, Lonigan and Scalon. While searching for Dan
and Ned, the officers split into two groups in order to find the fugitives. Even though the officers were disguised as prospectors, Dan and Ned
recognised them immediately and began shooting at them. During the battle, three of the officers died; only McIntyre managed to escape and return
back to testify against Ned. Although some historians believe that the murder of these officers at Stringybark Creek was an accident, evidence
shows that Ned deliberately shot at these innocent men. Just before leaving the crime scene, Ned stole Sergeant Kennedy's gold watch and later
stated, "What's the use of a watch to a dead man?" These evil, soulless words were truly spoken by a cruel and deplorable villain. Even though many
consider Ned Kelly to be a significant national representative of Australian culture and heroism, the evil deeds that Ned Kelly committed during his
life were not forgotten on the 27th of June, 1880. His criminal record was mostly overshadowed by his brave, courageous and loyal traits that won him
the love of his people

the Australian identity to steer clear of such notions and Ned Kelly's actions, as portrayed in the film clearly encapsulate this. In the film, he is
described to have been one of the few colonial figures who stood against injustice and police corruption. The audience is presented with direct
evidence of this defiance when he and his gang burn the Euroa and Jerilderie banks' mortgage papers in an attempt to erase the debts and create losses
for the banks. The significance of this defiance is demonstrated in the quote, "It was like slapping Queen Victoria herself, across the face". The values
of courage combined with defiance when faced with injustice which at the time, was the caused by the establishment, is an important aspect of the
Australian identity and this film in its portrayal of Ned Kelly is successful in representing

Ned Kelly Heroes
Ned Kelly was a very famous Australian Bushranger who was well known for his courage and bravery. The character of Ned Kelly is considered
as either a murderous villain or the Robin Hood of Australia. Ned Kelly is more commonly portrayed as the Robin Hood of Australia for people in
the modern society, after considering his heritage on Australia during his life. There are many interpretations of Ned Kelly's life and character,
which help people make judgements whether he is a murderous villain or a hero. Such interpretations include the film "Ned Kelly" (2003) as well as
the documentary "Australia is still divided over Ned Kelly". Throughout the film Ned Kelly, the main scenes which show the character of Ned Kelly as

The main reason he robs the bank is so he could give money to the less wealthy people who are in need. To support this idea, a high camera angle is
used to show Ned Kelly's expression and his personality, as well as his desperation for helping people. Ned Kelly can go to any extent to achieve
his mission. This also highlights a quality, which helps him gain the title of the Robin Hood of Australia. Props are used in this scene to help
emphasize his point and his mission. The props used in this scene are guns and are used to indicate how serious Ned Kelly is for completing his
mission and to describe what extent he can reach to gain success. Furthermore, a medium shot of Steve, who is a member of the Kelly Gang, steals a
watch of one of the townspeople. The medium shot displays a greater focus on emotion and status of him. The main purpose of this medium shot is
to incorporate the setting, the characters and personalities of members of the Kelly Gang. Ned Kelly establishes leadership in the Kelly gang, as his
actions and personal qualities lead him to his personal journey of success after achieving what he wanted. Ned Kelly takes action against injustice and

Ned Kelly Villain
Ned Kelly was a Villain This man is truly the worst criminal that Australia has ever seen in its entire history. Ned Kelly robbed banks, murdered
three men and stole horses and cattle. Ned was part of the Kelly gang. There is no doubt he was the worst of them, he schemed all the villainous
plans, he was the one who killed all three policemen and before the gang was even created he stole many farming families horses and cattle. If you
don't think this man is a villain from what I have said so far I don't know what to say. He shot three men dead with no mercy (pg52), he attempted
to derail a police train (pg102) with no care how many men where on that train and he stole hundreds possibly thousands of horses and cattle. (pg1).
Ned Kelly was definitely a villain. This man didn't care about anything accept himself and crime. He lived for crime that's all he thought about
robbing, stealing and murdering. If he didn't get caught when he did, then Australia may have become extinct. Ned murdered three men, (pg52) not
caring if they had families to return home to. Ned didn't care if they were a friend or foe. They even killed one of their best friends. (pg103) Do you

Category number 1– Culture and Race. In this category we first we have Mexico. Mexico is a place I am very familiar with well, mostly all my mom's
side of the family is from Tepic,Nayarit. Nayarit has beautiful landscaping and also hard working people. I love going to Nayarit it's such a relaxing
place. Nayarit mexico in general is something I identify with because whenever people ask me where i'm from I say Nayarit it's where I love to be
and and I identify as "Cora". Being Mexican is a big part of my identity. I am proud to be Mexican and nobody can take that away from me. Being
Mexican plays a big role in my life from the way I talk, act, and the manners I have. Next we have being 15 as a Mexican girl turning is probably the
most exciting year of your life when you turn 15 this is the time you transition from being a little girl to being a woman. At the age of 15 it's a tradition
to have a huge party called a quincenera it's to publicly show your family, friends, etc. your transition. Another and final thing that represents myculture

Argumentative Essay: Why Do Australians Idolize Ned Kelly?
Why do Australians idolize Ned Kelly? Ned Kelly wasn't a man to be idolized, he was a villain disguised as a vigilante, An unearthly, inhumane and
devilish man. He committed his first crimes at the age of twelve by stealing a horse from his neighbour, displaying downright harassing behaviour.
Not only harassing people, he also took to a life of crime at an early age by teaming up with a known bushranger, a bushranger who spent thirty–two
years of his life in jail. The poor choices Ned made, not only harmed ordinary townspeople but also harmed his own family. The harassing he did, and
threatened to do was downright deadly. Ned Kelly would stick–up innocent hawkers who are just trying to do their jobs, he had the choice to be a good
man, but he turned to the life of crime and robbery. No hero would ever dream of doing that. All of these facts further go to support my argument as to

Ned Kelly, A Hero Or A Villain
Ned Kelly was certainly a villain rather a hero
Ned Kelly was certainly a villain due to his violent and bloodthirsty behavior throughout his life. Even as a child, Ned was involved in trouble and
developed an early life of crime. To contribute to the crimes, Ned Kelly is to blame for infamous attack at Stringybark Creek. Finally Kelly was the gang
leader in the merciless shootout of the Glenrowan Siege. Kelly's trouble with the law quickly escalated through indecent behaviour, assault and stock
theft to police killer.
Ned Kelly is definitely a villain because of his development of an early endless life of crime. Kelly did not receive a normal childhood and was instead
meddling with the law. The Kelly's were often in trouble with the police over horse and cattle theft. At the age of fourteen in 1869, Kelly was
arrested and served seven weeks in jail for the alleged assault of Ah Fook, a Chinese pig farmer. At such a young age, Ned Kelly was already
known for his crimes and explains why he is undeniably a villain. Furthermore, as Kelly grew older his crimes started to worsen. Again in 1869,
Ned was alleged of being assistant to thief turned bushranger Harry Power and was charged for helping out during some robberies. Due to these
interactions with people doing crime, Kelly was further drawn into the world of crime. Kelly was again jailed in 1870 for three years after
assaulting a hawker (salesperson) and also being in possession of a stolen horse. Ned Kelly's criminal actions didn't end there. On the 15th of
April, 1878, Kelly shot at Constable Alexander Fitzpatrick in the wrist after he became too friendly with his sister Kate. Kelly's crime rate was
endless.Later the Kelly gang led by their leader Ned Kelly, committed some major robberies in the National Bank branches at Euroa and Jerilderie. At
Jerilderie, the gang even held police and civilians hostage while stealing all the money from the bank's vaults. Ned Kelly's early life was corrupted in
crime with theft and assault and added towards his increase in villainy.
Ned Kelly was certainly a villain rather than a hero due to his barbaric actions at Stringybark Creek. Stringybark Creek was the new hiding point for
the Kelly gang. On the 26th of October

Black Snake: Ned Kelly As A Victim
Ned Kelly was an Australian bushranger who was born in 1854 in the bush north of Melbourne. He is famous for doing both bad and good things.
We remember him today for the bad choices he made because of the bad things in this life. Throughout his life bad things happened to him and this
is why he is a victim. Firstly, the police treated him unfairly, secondly, people were racist against him because he was Irish and lastly, his
punishment was too harsh. Ned Kelly was a victim because the police targeted him and his family and punished them for crimes they didn't do.
The police blamed Ned Kelly for crimes he didn't commit, such as stealing a horse that friend of his had stolen, and threatening to shoot a police
man when he was 600km away at the time. A police man also tried to shoot Ned Kelly three times over a stolen horse. In the novel Black Snake by
Carole Wilkinson, page 17 explains how a constable Hall pulled Ned from a stolen horse, shot at him but miss fire three times and then beat over
the head several times. "Hall pulled the revolver from Ned's grasp and bashed him over the head with it again and again" (Page 18). This is just one
example of the police treating him unfairly. The way the police treated Ned Kelly is part of what makes him a victim. One possible reason the police
treated him this way was probably... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the 1800s, Irish people were treated differently because English people saw them as less intelligent and more violent. This caused racism in
early Australia. In black snake, a man called Jacob Barker is quoted as saying, "The Irish are all the same. A bunch of brawling thieves." He goes on
to say about Ned Kelly himself, "I can't see him making anything of himself" (Page 3). Ned Kelly had to deal with racism like this from everyone in
Australia. Treatment like this made Ned Kelly and his family victims. This kind of racism could have been the cause of the harsh punishment he

Earlier in 1770, James Cook charted and claimed possession of the east coast of Australia for Britain. Seeking to pre–empt the French colonial empire
from expanding into the region, Britain chose Australia as the site of a penal colony, and in 1787, the First Fleet of eleven convict ships set sail for
Botany Bay, arriving on 20 January 1788 to found Sydney, New South Wales, the first European settlement on the continent. 2. They gathered together
large numbers of convicts, responsible for both petty and serious crimes such as stealing, burglary, highway robery and possession of fire arms and ,
depending on their crimes sentences them to either 7 or 14 years of transportation,or to a life of transportation in Australia. The first convicts came to
Australia in ships known as the First Fleet. There were eleven ships in the First Fleet and they were all commanded by Captain Arthur Philip. 3. There
are four main justifications for punishments being designed and implemented. Justice for the victim is one justification. For example, punishments
such as an eye–for–an–eye aim to make criminals suffer to the degree that their victims have suffered. Deterrence is another justification. For example,
hanging someone in public was intended to serve as a warning to potential criminals about what would happen if they too broke the law. Rehabilitation

At the beginning of the episode when people are warned that there will be a hurricane, everyone turns on each other by stealing, fighting and
breaking things, for their own personal wealth, not worrying about anyone else, the creators of the show purposefully exaggerate, this is in
reference to what would happen in anarchy, or post apocalyptic events, movies such as, The Purge, Mad Max 2 and I am Legend cover this topic in
more depth. Later in the episode, Ned Flanders asks, "why did the hurricane destroy only my house, I donate to 8 different churches and follow
everything the bible says." This is making fun of how much he heavily relies on the several churches to bring him security and wealth, this pokes fun
at the people in society think that giving to a church or several different churches will grant them safety or wealth. Another satirical moment was in
Ned Flanders' flashback to when he was young, when his parents couldn't control him, because they didn't believe in rules, they went to a doctor and
told him, "we've tried nothing and we're all out of ideas." The creators of the show are making fun of the parents that don't discipline their kids.
In conclusion the creators of The Simpsons use many different methods such as satire, characterisation and surrealism. Surrealism creates unrealistic

Controversial Topics of Racism, Sexism, and Transvestitism...
True History of the Kelly Gang Like many novels set in the time period of the 1800's, True History of the Kelly Gang brings attention to many
controversial topics. Racism, sexism, and transvestitism are all topics that appear on occasion throughout the novel. Slurs are used numerous times,
and a man who wears a dress is committing a terrible offense. Also mentioned are some interesting points on gang activity and violence.
Unsurprisingly, some of these topics and actions have made their way into America and still appear in present day. After reading True History ofthe
Kelly Gang–or even just after hearing the title– hero is not likely to be the first word that comes to mind. Ned Kelly is not an average comic book hero,
and one would certainly not find stories about him among those of Batman or Superman. However, in his own light, he portrays some uniquely
heroic qualities. Bravery, loyalty, and gallantry are all characteristics that could be used to describe Ned. "At that time he would see his child again.
At that time he would release his mother. At that time these people would occupy their own land without fear or favour, but now the world was a
filthy mire and mess." (After Parcel 13, Page 348). His wants are simple: his wife, daughter, mother, and a quiet life free from the 'traps' (Australian
slang for police) constantly knocking at his door. Unfortunately, not all good people end up in good situations. Being a poor boy in a poverty–stricken

Egalitarianism In The Sapphires

egalitarianism and the idea of a fair go for all. They depict the underdog, and their drive to succeed and achieve. In many Australian films today these
two qualities are shown throughout which makes for a captivating and exciting film experience. Iconic films such as The Sapphires and Ned Kelly
depict Australians fighting against injustice, personal issues and inequality, showing the value of a "fair go" and egalitarianism. The film The

thought was right for his friends and family. But Ned Kelly was seen, mainly by the authorities, as a criminal, stealing cattle from a young age,

Australia was first inhabited by the Aborigonals (the indigenous people) and was left alone by the outside world until Europeans first had set sail
for the country at around 1606. Between 1606 and 1770 an estimated 54 European ships had came to Australia. Most of these European ships were
from the Dutch East India Company and for a small time became New Holland. It wasn't until August of 1770 that somebody officially claimed
Australia his name was Lieutenant James Cook. Cook had claimed Australia in the name for King George the Third and renamed Australia to New
South Wales. Once claimed, two fleets came to Australia the first had eleven ships with about 1,350 people on it. The second fleet had provided food
and supplies that were badly needed but many on the second fleet were ill and many were near death. None of the people on the second fleet were
helpful to the colonies. One thing to note is that many of the people getting sent to Australia were pervious convicts not only that, but in 1790 there was

Research Paper On Ned Kelly

  • 1. Research Paper On Ned Kelly "A psychopathic criminal misfit who left a trail of destruction and misery in his wake." (Moor, 2013) Edward "Ned" Kelly (1854 – 1880) was a convicted murderer, horse and cattle thief and bank robber as well as the leader of an infamous group of Australian outlaw bushrangers named the 'Kelly Gang'. He committed a large number of major crimes, terrorised the towns of Victoria by invoking fear and distress in citizens' hearts and endangered hundreds of civilians' lives in his many ruthless exploits. Ned Kelly was a villain; an enemy of society who condemned the police for all his wrongdoings. The vast array of transgressions committed by Kelly clearly displays his strong sense of criminality. From 1870 to 1874, Kelly was arrested for numerous charges including assault, theft and robbery and received a total of six and a half years' imprisonment. "In 1870, Kelly was convicted of summary offences and imprisoned for six months. Soon after release he was sentenced to three years' imprisonment for receiving a mare knowing it to have been stolen." (Barry, 1974) In 1877, he had stolen hundreds of stock by his own admission, claiming in the Jerilderie Letter that this was caused by police persecution and that it was necessary to support his poverty–stricken family. However, these crimes remain inexcusable. "No one cares that Kelly may have had a tough life. Almost every single person in the 19th century colony of Victoria had a tough life– and they didn't all become murdering armed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Is Ned Kelly A Victim Or A Villain Ned Kelly; victim, villain, hero Ned Kelly, an Australian outlaw, made his way into Australian history books, but for what? The notorious villain or a victim of law. Many of his actions made the public petrified at the sound of the name, yet others saw him as a beacon of light. Fighting for a fair police department. Although Ned and his gang shoot dead three innocent police men this does not make him a villain, neither a victim. Ned showed aspects of a hero, villain and victim throughout his life such as the robbery at the Jerilderie bank. Ned Kelly was almost destined to turn to bank hold ups with his family cruelly misjudged by the Victorian police. Ned's mother was wrongly accused of assaulting a police officer. Than she was sentenced to 3 years of jail and hard labour. Ned went around breaking the law to create a fairer law. With the money, he had stolen, he gave to friends and family such as his mother who he paid bail for. He never stole from the poor but as such gave back to the poor. "No doubt I am now placed in very peculiar circumstances and you might blame me for it but if you knew how I have been wronged and persecuted you would say I cannot be blamed" Ned Kelly. In fact, Ned made sure his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He had the best in mind for the people of Victoria. Fighting for their rights. During the robbery at the Jerilderie bank Ned set alight the mortgages. Without the mortgages, it meant citizens didn't owe the bank anything. This portrays the true thoughts of Ned to give the poor a new lease of life; equal to the rich. Don't forget after the capture of Ned 32,000 people signed a 'petition of reprieve'. This shows the positive affect Ned had on the community. Another heroic act Ned did was when he was younger he saved a young drowning boy. This is just a substantial amount of evidence that Ned intentions for the world to be a caring, loyal citizen of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Analysis Of The Movie Rear Window Rear Window directed by Alfred Hitchcock is revered as one of the greatest movies in American Cinema; every shot and plot point in the story considered a work of art from the creative mind of the ambitious director. Due to this, it has been referenced many times in pop culture, TV shows, amongst other forms of media. One of these TV shows is the long–running titan of cartoons, The Simpsons. The episode "Bart of Darkness" is a parody of the whole movie, using the camera angles and plot points from the movie for comedic and mocking purposes, yet in its own peculiar way pays homage to the source material and Hitchcock with respect. The similarity between the episode and the movie isn't very apparent at the beginning, but the show does drop in some subtle hints at the beginning to tell what it will be referencing later. The episode takes place during the peak of summer likeRear Window, and shows everybody suffering under it. Lisa and Bart beg their parents to purchase a pool to beat the heat after going for a swim in Otto's mobile pool. But the most important piece of evidence comes at a scene which can be written off as unimportant to the casual viewer. When the mobile pool stops abruptly in front of the Simpson's house, water flows through the "rear window" into Otto's truck, to which he says, "I gotta replace that window", (Groening, Bart of Darkness). It is a very subtle but clear case of foreshadowing to what the episode is going to parody later that the observant viewer can see and appreciate. The parody starts to become more obvious after Bart breaks his leg in a pool accident. He essentially becomes the L.B. Jeffries of the story afterwards; bored, isolated, and with nothing better to do than to watch the world turn. He starts to watch other people go on with their mundane lives with a telescope out of boredom until he comes across the neighbor Ned Flanders acting very suspiciously, who becomes like Thornwald in Rear Window. The episode follows a similar storyline to that of the movie, with the wife gone for a long period of time and seeing both bury something in the ground, which could be either be a body or a piece of crucial evidence. Bart and Jeff become so paranoid that they send their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Narrative Essay On Franky Hanging out and trying to stay cool Chillz was relaxing at the bus stop waiting for his friend Franky to return. The big difference between now and before was this time around Chillz was sipping on a 32 ounce of ice tea. This kept him nice and cool as he waited there for Franky to arrive. As he sat back he watched traffic go by Chillz thinking, "I wonder where Franky is? I know it cannot take him this long to go and get my inhaler." As soon as Chillz had finished that thought; in the distance he caught a glimpse of his buddy racing toward him. The funny thing was looking at Franky; Chillz knew something was wrong as he saw the look in his eyes. Just by the panic on his face he knew something was up. Standing up to greet his friend as soon as Franky got next to Chillz, he looked terrified yelling, "Dude we have a serious problem!" Not really understanding why Franky was so upset Chillz replied, "Franky, what in the world is wrong with you? I think you have been riding your skateboard in the heat too long." Stepping back Franky paused. This is where he began watching Chillz. Responding to his friend's behavior Chillz looked at Franky even stranger. • 5. Historical Accuracy In The Film Ned Kelly, Directed By... Ned Kelly (2003), directed by Gregor Jordan and starring Heath Ledger (Ned Kelly) and Orlando Bloom, is the film interpretation of the legendary story of the Kelly gang. As this is a film, not a documentary, it is only moderately historically accurate. The three key events in this story in which Jordan has attempted to maintain the truth to a reasonable extent are the incident with Constable Fitzpatrick, the shooting of Aaron Sherritt and the Glenrowan shootout. However, there is also one major aspect of the film where Jordan has not endeavoured to uphold historical accuracy, and that is Ned Kelly's love life. As the very purpose of a feature film is to entertain an audience, there is only a limited potential to which historical accuracy can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In actuality, the shootout takes place after the Kelly gang take 60 hostages at the Glenrowan hotel. When the police arrive, the outlaws put on their famous steel armour, and start shooting at the police. During the shootout Ned is wounded in the foot, hand and arm and retreats into the bush, having injured Superintendent Hare, the commander of the police proceedings that night. The other members of the gang withdraw to the hotel where they are shot dead by police. Ned returns to Glenrowan at dawn and is quickly brought down, but not killed, with shots to his unprotected legs. In the film, however, it is made to look as though the Kelly gang bring down many officers in the fight for their cause and also that Dan and Steve kill themselves before the police can get to them. • 6. Ned Kelly Quotes Edward (Ned) Kelly was an infamous Australian bushranger of Irish descent that lived from 1854 to 1880. Black Snake is one of many pieces of literature that has been written based on Ned Kelly's life. Black Snake is a historical fiction novel based on non – fictional events. Black Snake shows different perspectives on what really happened, so the person could've slightly changed the story to back up their point of view. Carole Wilkinson is an award– winning Australian author. Some people, such as Superintendent Hare, felt very strongly that Ned Kelly was a villain. "Ned Kelly was a flash ill–looking blackguard.... Notwithstanding all his boasted pluck and boasts, how game he would die" (Pg. 127, Wilkinson, 2002). Others, such as Ned Kelly's mother (Ellen Kelly), felt very strongly that Ned Kelly was a hero and that police mistreatment towards him and his family was what drove him to become an outlaw. "Think what the police have done to me and mine, and then tell me if you wonder that the boys turned and smote the ones who had so persecuted them" (Pg. 128, Wilkinson, 2002) Others, such as Constable Richards of Euroa, feel that Ned Kelly did commit wrongdoings and did break the law, but he was standing up for people that were struggling and didn't have a voice and helping those being mistreated. "He was a bushranger but he was the gamest man I ever saw" (Pg. 129, Wilkinson, 2002). The language techniques included in Black Snake are imagery and figurative language, language that can make a reader absorbed in a book and finally, colonial words correct to that time period. • 7. Dichotomy In Rear Window Alfred Hitchcock once defined his film Rear Window (Hitchcock, 1954), as the story of a man who cannot move and looks through a window, about what he sees and how he reacts to it (Truffaut, 1986). In addition, Hitchcock constructs the character of the protagonist of the film, Jeff (James Steward), not only by using cinematographic devices to show how Jeff interprets what he sees and his own life, but also stabilising a dichotomy between what he looks at and what he lives. At the beginning of the film, a camera movement reveals JeffВґs profession and why he is immobilized in a wheel–chair. He is a photographer, interested in looking at otherВґs lives; consequently, he could be described as a voyeur. Across a very limited space– the courtyard ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For those reasons, even when he is in a sweet moment with Lisa in his arms, he prefers looking at the outside of his apartment, and even he feels more sexual attraction towards Miss. Torso (Georgine Darcy) through the window than towards Lisa, who is in his arms or more explicit, offering herself in his sofa. Lisa – as Thorvald at the end, represents a menace and when he feels threatened, does not hesitate to take his binoculars (or even the flash), as the only way to prevent danger. To sum up, Hitchcock uses a film as Rear window to construct an allegory between reality and fiction. The end of the film is ambiguous because although Jeff chooses real life, as he presents his back to the window and to the outside, the clash between reality and fiction has a price, if you choose fiction probably, you could lose to live in a real society, but if you choose reality, you could lose your identity, as Jeff. So, inside this film, there is not only one crime, but also other metaphoric murdered: Jeff, who has renounced to his fantasies to adapt himself in a conformed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. How Do You Know You 've Witnessed A Murder? How Do You Know You've Witnessed a Murder? This question is a perplexing one, and will be explored throughout the following text. However, first a person must consider the value of a films translation of text into cinematic language. "A movie based on a literary source is often seen as a secondary work, consequently, of secondary value" (Cahir). What makes this ideology present in our society? What makes one translation considered more valuable than another? "Literature, generally, still occupies a more privileged position in the cultural hierarchy than movies do..." (Cahir). It is in the translation versus adaptation of text to cinematic language that offers film its own identity. Adaptation equates to the transformation of written word ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The creation of the characters of Stella and Lisa, afford Hitchcock the opportunity to radically translate specific aspects of Woolrich's story while maintaining an overall traditional translation. There were two scenes where this radical translation was most evident, but first we must understand the premise of the story. Both It Had to be Murder and Rear Window the stories can be considered psychological thrillers because they appeal to the audience in a way that has them guessing what will happen next. The both appeal to the sense of community within American society, and how each person should look out for the welfare of others, while concurrently managing to appeal to the taboo subject of voyeurism. The premise of the story is a man, Jeffries, who is recuperating from an injury and is housebound in the hot summer months with little else to do other than observe his neighbors out his rear apartment window. During his observations, he concludes that his neighbor Lars Thorwald has murdered his wife, and is determined to prove it. In each story the supporting characters are utilized in Jefferies efforts to obtain the proof he seeks. The first scene I will compare is the scene in which Jefferies witnesses Thorwald packing a trunk. Each rendition of this story has a different translation of this scene and meaning behind the action. In Woolrich's It Had to be Murder, this scene's intent is to allow Jeffries insight to come as an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Film Critique Many Australian films explore the concept of 'overcoming adversity', common to films from many countries but they explore it in a manner unique to Australia and embrace the 'Aussie Battler' or 'Aussie Hero' icon. The films Gallipoli (Directed by Peter Weir– 1981) and Ned Kelly (Directed by Gregor Jordan – 2003) are two good examples of this. Both films show evidence of characters overcoming adversities throughout their stories. The following will analyse each film and explore the concept by looking at themes and film techniques. The characters in the film Gallipoli, Frank and Archie, develop a very close friendship throughout their tough journey together. It was a common belief that all young men should represent and fight for their country in the war, or be judged and named selfish etcetera; therefore, Archie and Frank felt they had to be a part of it and signed up. An adversity justly overcome by both characters. They also had to overcome the terrifying adversity of fear to prove to themselves, and others, that they were able to deal with the hardship of warfare and suffering. Likewise in Ned Kelly, the characters overcame the adversity of judgment from others by doing what they thought was the right thing to do – battling for their rights, which in turn earned the respect of friends, some citizens and family. They attempted to overcome the adversity of discrimination against the Irish held at the time by the majority of other Australians. Police treated them unfairly because of where they were from. Discrimination causes a lot of tension between characters in the film. The outcome of this tension proves the main character, Ned Kelly, to be a true Aussie battler. The most powerful scene of the film Gallipoli is the final scene. The musical score intensifies the struggle, despair and hopelessness of the situation. It helps the audience to relate and feel sympathy towards the character. This scene is depicts the character overcoming his adversity of fear and becoming and 'Aussie hero' as he runs into battle however, even though he has overcome his fear, it does not end well. There is no doubt that Ned Kelly was a hero and a victim because he was one of the Australian greatest bushranger, who not only outsmarted the police but also stood up for his family's rights. In recent years' opinion has become much more divided on the issue of Ned Kelly a villain or victim. There is no doubt that Ned was a victim there are many reasons to this. Firstly, when Ned was just a boy his father died so as the oldest in the family he took the role of head of the family for some years. How Did Knockout Rand Become A Gang Leader In the movie of "City of God" directed by Fernando Meirelles, Knockout Ned chooses a path that creates a question if Knockout Ned's reason for becoming a gang leader make his violent actions more acceptable or is Knockout Ned just as unethical/horrible as Lil'Ze by the end of the film. This essay will prove that Knockout Ned's reasons for becoming a gang leader make his violent actions more acceptable. It will be proved by the following three points: firstly, Knockout Ned's motives for becoming a gang leader and engaging in warfare are different from Lil'Ze's. Secondly, even after becoming a gangster, Knockout Ned does not misuse his power. Lastly people's behavior towards Knockout Ned are different than any other gangsters. Knockout Ned's... Through increasing the reward to such a significant amount and flooding the public eye with images of the gang, the Colonial Governments could attempt to decrease the support base which the gang could utilise to hide from the law by turning the Robin Hood status of the gang into one of murderous outlaws. Through understanding why the poster was created and published, there are two separate groups of people which the poster can be seen as being aimed at reaching. The first group of people were the poorer Irish population of the two colonies, which provided the key part of the support network which sheltered and aided the Kelly Gang during their time on the run, commonly known as the Bush Telegraph. This demographic was targeted in an attempt to remove this support network and was probably seen by these people with mixed reactions. The support network over the gangs two year crime spree remained strong, however, towards the end of their time on the run, they found themselves increasingly isolated as police pressure and the promise of reward swayed several key supporters. Peter Temple the Broken Shore Views and Values Essay THE BROKEN SHORE Peter Temple's acclaimed crime fiction novel 'The Broken Shore' chronicles the unfolding of a murder investigation on the rugged Victorian coastline through the eyes of a morally flexible small town cop. The novel showcases the complex social structures apparent in contemporary rural Victoria, particularly focusing on the often shaky relations between anglo and indigenous Australians. It also addresses the segregation between the have's and the have not's within society and the institutions that separate the social classes and explores the intricacies of the arguably broken Australian/Victorian legal system. Through the commentary of characters like Cashin and Cecily Addison, who are both relative outsiders in Cromarty, Temple is able to convey a fictional first hand view of the insular society that holds in high esteem the likes of Charles Bourgoyne and Helen Castlemen, as they are moneyed, educated and challenge the stereotypical country hick labels that are often collectively placed on citizens residing in rural areas. Through the use of Cashin and Cecily, Temple is also able to construct an unbiased observation of how these same areas discriminate against the, often indigenous and/or low socio economic, down trodden members of society and ostracise them both physically, through the demarkation line that tells indigenous Australians where they can and cannot live, restricting them to the "Daunt settlement", and also intellectually, through the copious use of words like "coon" and "nigger" in regard to the "blackfellas". Surprisingly it is not only the bogan–esque beach bums who assert their politically incorrect and blatantly racist attitudes towards the indigenous residents. Members of the working class like Hopgood and his team for example also exhibit prejudice against the Aboriginals and contrary to the traditional 'innocent 'til proven guilty' notion it seems to be more of a 'guilty 'til proven innocent' situation when the young "coons" are suspected of robbing and murdering Bourgoyne. Whether Ned Kelly was a hero, however, has been debated throughout Australia's history. Evidence shows that Ned was a murderous villain who terrorised towns and robbed wealthy pastoralists; a man who broke the law and committed an array of crimes that were both evil and immoral. Ned Kelly was a villain; an outlaw and thief who is wrongly immortalised as an Australian hero. The culminating events of Ned Kelly's life led to the gruesome murder at Stringybark Creek; when Ned knowingly murdered three innocent policemen. This incident occurred in October, 1880 when a group of policemen were searching for Ned and his brother Dan near the Wombat Ranges. This small contingency of officers included Sergeant Kennedy and Constables McIntyre, Lonigan and Scalon. While searching for Dan and Ned, the officers split into two groups in order to find the fugitives. Even though the officers were disguised as prospectors, Dan and Ned recognised them immediately and began shooting at them. During the battle, three of the officers died; only McIntyre managed to escape and return back to testify against Ned. Although some historians believe that the murder of these officers at Stringybark Creek was an accident, evidence shows that Ned deliberately shot at these innocent men. Just before leaving the crime scene, Ned stole Sergeant Kennedy's gold watch and later stated, "What's the use of a watch to a dead man?" These evil, soulless words were truly spoken by a cruel and deplorable villain. Even though many consider Ned Kelly to be a significant national representative of Australian culture and heroism, the evil deeds that Ned Kelly committed during his life were not forgotten on the 27th of June, 1880. Whilst other nations praise authority and openly embrace the bureaucratic culture, it is part of the Australian identity to steer clear of such notions and Ned Kelly's actions, as portrayed in the film clearly encapsulate this. • 25. Ned Kelly, A Hero Or A Villain Ned Kelly was certainly a villain rather a hero Ned Kelly was certainly a villain due to his violent and bloodthirsty behavior throughout his life. Even as a child, Ned was involved in trouble and developed an early life of crime. To contribute to the crimes, Ned Kelly is to blame for infamous attack at Stringybark Creek. Finally Kelly was the gang leader in the merciless shootout of the Glenrowan Siege. Kelly's trouble with the law quickly escalated through indecent behaviour, assault and stock theft to police killer. Ned Kelly is definitely a villain because of his development of an early endless life of crime. Kelly did not receive a normal childhood and was instead meddling with the law. The Kelly's were often in trouble with the police over horse and cattle theft. At the age of fourteen in 1869, Kelly was arrested and served seven weeks in jail for the alleged assault of Ah Fook, a Chinese pig farmer. At such a young age, Ned Kelly was already known for his crimes and explains why he is undeniably a villain. Furthermore, as Kelly grew older his crimes started to worsen. Again in 1869, Ned was alleged of being assistant to thief turned bushranger Harry Power and was charged for helping out during some robberies. Due to these interactions with people doing crime, Kelly was further drawn into the world of crime. Kelly was again jailed in 1870 for three years after assaulting a hawker (salesperson) and also being in possession of a stolen horse. Ned Kelly's criminal actions didn't end there. On the 15th of April, 1878, Kelly shot at Constable Alexander Fitzpatrick in the wrist after he became too friendly with his sister Kate. Kelly's crime rate was endless.Later the Kelly gang led by their leader Ned Kelly, committed some major robberies in the National Bank branches at Euroa and Jerilderie. • 27. Black Snake: Ned Kelly As A Victim Ned Kelly was an Australian bushranger who was born in 1854 in the bush north of Melbourne. He is famous for doing both bad and good things. We remember him today for the bad choices he made because of the bad things in this life. Throughout his life bad things happened to him and this is why he is a victim. Firstly, the police treated him unfairly, secondly, people were racist against him because he was Irish and lastly, his punishment was too harsh. Ned Kelly was a victim because the police targeted him and his family and punished them for crimes they didn't do. The police blamed Ned Kelly for crimes he didn't commit, such as stealing a horse that friend of his had stolen, and threatening to shoot a police man when he was 600km away at the time. A police man also tried to shoot Ned Kelly three times over a stolen horse. In the novel Black Snake by Carole Wilkinson, page 17 explains how a constable Hall pulled Ned from a stolen horse, shot at him but miss fire three times and then beat over the head several times. "Hall pulled the revolver from Ned's grasp and bashed him over the head with it again and again" (Page 18). This is just one example of the police treating him unfairly. He goes on to say about Ned Kelly himself, "I can't see him making anything of himself" (Page 3). Ned Kelly had to deal with racism like this from everyone in Australia. Treatment like this made Ned Kelly and his family victims. This kind of racism could have been the cause of the harsh punishment he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Earlier in 1770, James Cook charted and claimed possession of the east coast of Australia for Britain. Seeking to pre–empt the French colonial empire from expanding into the region, Britain chose Australia as the site of a penal colony, and in 1787, the First Fleet of eleven convict ships set sail for Botany Bay, arriving on 20 January 1788 to found Sydney, New South Wales, the first European settlement on the continent. 2. They gathered together large numbers of convicts, responsible for both petty and serious crimes such as stealing, burglary, highway robery and possession of fire arms and , depending on their crimes sentences them to either 7 or 14 years of transportation,or to a life of transportation in Australia. The first convicts came to Australia in ships known as the First Fleet. There were eleven ships in the First Fleet and they were all commanded by Captain Arthur Philip. 3. There are four main justifications for punishments being designed and implemented. Justice for the victim is one justification. For example, punishments such as an eye–for–an–eye aim to make criminals suffer to the degree that their victims have suffered. Deterrence is another justification. For example, hanging someone in public was intended to serve as a warning to potential criminals about what would happen if they too broke the law. Rehabilitation is a third ... At the beginning of the episode when people are warned that there will be a hurricane, everyone turns on each other by stealing, fighting and breaking things, for their own personal wealth, not worrying about anyone else, the creators of the show purposefully exaggerate, this is in reference to what would happen in anarchy, or post apocalyptic events, movies such as, The Purge, Mad Max 2 and I am Legend cover this topic in more depth. Later in the episode, Ned Flanders asks, "why did the hurricane destroy only my house, I donate to 8 different churches and follow everything the bible says." This is making fun of how much he heavily relies on the several churches to bring him security and wealth, this pokes fun at the people in society think that giving to a church or several different churches will grant them safety or wealth. Another satirical moment was in Ned Flanders' flashback to when he was young, when his parents couldn't control him, because they didn't believe in rules, they went to a doctor and told him, "we've tried nothing and we're all out of ideas." The creators of the show are making fun of the parents that don't discipline their kids. In conclusion the creators of The Simpsons use many different methods such as satire, characterisation and surrealism. Surrealism creates unrealistic elements that could not happen in real ... Ned Kelly Essay Actor Discussion About a Representation of Justice with Relation to the Character of Ned Kelly By Oliver Friendship and Ella Dittmar Actor 1 (Oliver): Right then Ella, let's just make sure that we are on the same page here. Our company, 'Unearthed Voiced', tours around secondary schools, adapting texts, and their characters, into contemporary plays. The current work we have been tasked with, is Peter Carey's 'The True History of the Kelly Gang'. The book is written by Carey from the perspective of the main protagonist; Ned Kelly. It is in the form of parcels of fictional letters 'written' by Carey's Kelly, to the character's young daughter; detailing his perspective on the major events of his life. After reading through this work, and looking... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ned Kelly's pleas for true justice to end discrimination against poor Irish settlers eventually opened the eyes of people, and he came to symbolise a fight by a flawed hero for justice, liberty and the innocent. Images of Ned Kelly were even projected to a global audience during the opening ceremony of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. Therefore, showing Carey's Kelly as an everyday man who was the victim of the unjust powers that be, is only logical. By doing so, we can harness and perpetuate the existing love and admiration for Ned Kelly's legend that is present among the contemporary Australian populous. We must definitely show Carey's Kelly, and this particular representation of justice, within a modern adaptation of the work. It's a representation of justice that many nowadays Australians want to hear, and will therefore connect ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Controversial Topics of Racism, Sexism, and Transvestitism... True History of the Kelly Gang Like many novels set in the time period of the 1800's, True History of the Kelly Gang brings attention to many controversial topics. Racism, sexism, and transvestitism are all topics that appear on occasion throughout the novel. Slurs are used numerous times, and a man who wears a dress is committing a terrible offense. Also mentioned are some interesting points on gang activity and violence. Unsurprisingly, some of these topics and actions have made their way into America and still appear in present day. After reading True History ofthe Kelly Gang–or even just after hearing the title– hero is not likely to be the first word that comes to mind. Ned Kelly is not an average comic book hero, and one would certainly not find stories about him among those of Batman or Superman. However, in his own light, he portrays some uniquely heroic qualities. Bravery, loyalty, and gallantry are all characteristics that could be used to describe Ned. "At that time he would see his child again. At that time he would release his mother. At that time these people would occupy their own land without fear or favour, but now the world was a filthy mire and mess." (After Parcel 13, Page 348). His wants are simple: his wife, daughter, mother, and a quiet life free from the 'traps' (Australian slang for police) constantly knocking at his door. Unfortunately, not all good people end up in good situations. Being a poor boy in a poverty–stricken area makes Ned's life ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In The Sapphires they do not have much of a leverage because of their race and continue to be looked down upon by the white people because they are black. • 38. Ned Kelly Cruelty "Such is life" These words is thought to be Ned Kelly's last before he was hanged for his crimes. But who was Ned Kelly? What did Ned do that he deserved to be hanged? Why was Ned important? To many Ned Kelly is seen as a hero, to others he was seen as a villain but in either event he changed what would later be Australia. WasNed Kelly good or bad? Before we understand Ned's story we must understand Austraila before Ned. Australia was first inhabited by the Aborigonals (the indigenous people) and was left alone by the outside world until Europeans first had set sail for the country at around 1606. Between 1606 and 1770 an estimated 54 European ships had came to Australia. Most of these European ships were from the Dutch East India Company and for a small time became New Holland. It wasn't until August of 1770 that somebody officially claimed Australia his name was Lieutenant James Cook. Cook had claimed Australia in the name for King George the Third and renamed Australia to New South Wales. Once claimed, two fleets came to Australia the first had eleven ships with about 1,350 people on it. The second fleet had provided food and supplies that were badly needed but many on the second fleet were ill and many were near death. None of the people on the second fleet were helpful to the colonies. One thing to note is that many of the people getting sent to Australia were pervious convicts not only that, but in 1790 there was one woman to four men. This made making a new colony ...
