This weeks' review is all about revisions, both large scale and small scale revisions to help us

At this point in my life I find myself in an interesting predicament regarding my attitudes toward

You can feed the mind as much as you want and it will never get full of reading. Sadly, I'm not the
same person that I was. I guess you could say it's part of growing up. It never really was
intentional but it's just the way how it ended up. On the other hand my attitudes toward writing
are very different. First let me say that deep down I truly do not like to write. I myself don't
personally like to write for leisure or pleasure but rather I write because I believe it is one of the
most important aspects of being able to communicate with those around you, both personally and
professionally. To put differently, my attitude towards writing is that I write because I need to

While Roger only threw rocks at the littluns to miss in the beginning of the book, Roger becomes
more violent and demonstrates that he is capable of committing murder by releasing a rock that kills
Piggy. Moreover, the conch–which is the symbol of order and civilization in Lord of the
Flies–"exploded into a thousand white fragments." Without the conch and its reminder of order
and civilization, the boys become more savage and all show that they have the ability to kill.
Regardless of their background as innocent choir boys, these violent events where Jack and the
boys in his tribe bring a cruel end to a sow and Piggy show that all humans have a capability for
brutality, despite their background.
Even as two of the most civilized characters in Lord of the Flies, Ralph and Piggy still show their
capability to act violently. As Ralph, Jack, and the other older boys return to their shelters from the
Castle Rock–which is where they suspect that the beast would live–the boys encounter a boar and
attempt to kill it. Soon after, the excitement turns into an act of hurting Robert, the pretend pig.
While all the boys aggressively chant their ritual and fight for their chance to hurt Robert, "Ralph

Sharing and listening to the illness narratives in class is an experience that I do not think I could
ever forget. Listening to people share their raw emotions and stories of struggle and illness was
eye opening, My own illness narrative could be described as a quest narrative and more specifically

I was probably overthinking it but I didn't want to talk down my dad in my narrative. He is
someone I look up to and cherish and I didn't think it was a necessary detail to include. I decided
to add pictures to my illness narrative because I think it humanized him a little bit as I sort of
demonized him by using him as the source of my illness. I added a picture of me and my dad
from about 16 years ago when I was about 5 and he was young. It was important for me to show a
picture of us at a younger age because I think it adds innocence as I wanted to humanize him, it
was perfect. Next I added a picture of my dad with my mom. This was to show appreciation and

I had no experience as a runner nor did I have the form. This did not phase me however. That year
I promised myself to push through all the six mile runs, sore legs, gnarly blisters, and at times,
lack of oxygen. At every meet and speed workout practice I pushed myself further and further. I
set a goal every time I kicked off from the starting line and never let myself get discouraged when
I failed. By my senior year, I was the fourth fastest runner on varsity. That year our varsity team
won the district meet, which qualified us to run in the 2016 state meet in Oregon. The
transformation over the years were evident. My determination to accomplish my goal of
becoming a faster runner was complete. If I had simply just given up that first day of practice, I
wouldn't have ran along side of the fastest runners in Oregon or have met the multitude of people
that are now my closest friends. Having a goal sets one up for a challenge, whether it being
physically or mentally, goals keep us active and thinking in more ways than one. Still, if someone
has self–control, confidence, and a goal, they are still not complete. Growth mindset is the cone to
an ice cream. It is the foundation of what I think a successful person is. Without it one couldn't use

According to Barrientos, "To me, speaking Spanish translated into being poor. It meant waiting

lawyer or a doctor" (561). They are not respected in a lot of communities, they live dirty, and they
have bad jobs. These stereotypes are reasons why Barrientos did not want to be called Mexican
and never wanted to learn Spanish. If diversity had been celebrated when Barrientos was a child,
as it is celebrated and honored now, she would have grown up speaking Spanish and being proud of
her heritage. Children are very impressionable and tend to take on others' opinions as their own, but
as they grow older, they develop a greater understanding and perspective of the way things are and
the way they should be. As adults, both Tan and Barrientos learned to accept and embrace the
languages that previously embarrassed them. Barrientos immersed herself in her Mexican heritage
and enrolled in many Spanish classes. With each enrollment, she faced yet another stereotype that
came with being of Mexican ethnicity; her instructors thought she should already know Spanish

Two of the greatest days of my life were the days my daughters were born. The first time I held the
both of them and gazed into their eyes I felt a sense of relief and hope. The feeling is a warm
tingling sensation that engulfed my entire body. The emotions that I felt are beyond what words can
explain. It's amazing to me that in the first few minutes of their lives they completely changed my
perception of the world.

They just want to learn about the world around them. They have inspired me to go out and try new
things. Every day they grow a little bit more independent. As they grow, I grow.
I have learned a lot about success from my daughters. For example, I watched them learn to walk.
They weeble, they wobble and fall down. But no matter how many times they fall, they get up and
try again. It has taught me that no matter what obstacles occur, if I just continue to try I can and will
succeed.
My daughters are my motivation to succeed. Each day I work very hard to provide for them.
Some days I really just want to give up. I don't want to be a student, I don't want to work. I just
want to quit. But when I think to myself how their faces light up at the sight of me, Mommy. I
realize that if I quit now I'm quitting on them. It is no longer about my wants and needs it is about

The greatest reward of being a mother is the love I share with my children. It is like no other. It is
pure and unconditional. There is no greater feeling than when my two year old say "Mommy I
love you" or when my ten month old gives me kisses. The love we share is the greatest gift from

According to Kelley (1996) this process is recommended by narrative therapists because it allows
the client to begin to see where the discourse emerged from. The therapist must first just listen to the
story and determine what the client sees as the existing problem (Kelley, 1996). Then the therapist
begins to ask questions with the intention of bringing forth the full meaning of the problem (Kelley,
1996). In deconstruction the therapist searches for answers as to who all is involved with the
problem, what past events lead up to the problem development, how the problem changed over time,
how the client has been fighting the problem thus far and how the problem is affecting the client's
life (Kelley, 1996).
Kelley (1996) reported that after the therapist has a full understanding of the problem the
deconstruction phase moves on to its second stage. The therapist and the client begin working
together to break down the prevailing story in order to map the influence the problem is having on
the client's life (Kelley, 1996). Mapping the effect of the problem is particularly important because
it lays the foundation of the new story line (Monk, Winslade, Crocket & Epston, 1997). According
to Monk, Winslade, Crocket & Epston (1997) typically when the effect of the problem is discussed
