1. Whistle-Blowing
• A whistleblower is a person who exposes any kind of
information or activity that is deemed illegal, dishonest,
or not correct within an organization that is either private
or public
• Whistleblowing is truly an entirely ethical decision, and
action
• Whistleblowers can face legal action, criminal charges,
social stigma, and termination from any position, office,
or job
• Third-party groups like Wikileaks and others offer
protection to whistleblowers
2. • Most large companies and firms have a “whistle-blower
policy” which dictates the terms in case some wants to do
so
• The policy is meant to ensure anonymity/security to the
whistle blower
4. Epic Whistle-blowing
• Edward Snowden was a computer professional and former CIA
operative
• In 2013, he made public thousands of top secret classified data
and thus became “America’s most wanted”
• This incident has been called the biggest intelligence breach in
recent US history
• Snowden revealed that NSA was spying on all US citizens
without their permission
• The NSA had access to SMSs, emails, chat histories, travel
histories and much more
• Companies like Google, Yahoo, Microsoft were forced to give
them all user data
• He is currently taking refuge in Russia
