Apple Ipod And The Ipod
The alarm clock rings and its time to go for a jog and get the morning routine off to a good start.
After my morning walk, I take a shower while listening to my favorite high–energy–time–to–wake–
up music. The weather channel says it is going to be a rainy morning, so I grab my umbrella and
head for the door. During the car ride, I toggle between the news and my French audio lessons.
These events are done using a little device that seems to be everywhere you look. For the past years
we have seen how Apple has introduced iPhones into the market for their consumers to purchase.
Apple iPods were first introduced in 2001 and has since grown into a recognized cultural symbol
(Edwards). The iPod is a brand of digital audio/video players that ... Show more content on

Apple Inc. has over two hundred retail stores in the world.
Apple offers discounts on renewed Macintosh computers, iPod Nanos, and the iPod Touch. Also, a

does offer $100 rebates, when you purchase a Mac computer from their online site (Apple

We are aware that iPhones are better than an iPod because of the features and design. iPod touches
may be out of the market, but I believe people still buy it, so they do not have to pay for cellular
service. iPod classics are totally at a decline because I do not see people with these devices. Another
difference is that the price is

Apple Cook Case
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Apple was formed in 1976 by Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs. After
some disastrous losses in the 1980's and 1990's to their main competitor, IBM, Apple was able to re–
invent the entire company. When Jobs returned to Apple in 1996, he took an expanded role and not
only continually pushed for innovative ideas and products but also compelled several structural
changes. Jobs also got rid of profitless divisions and departments. Apple has been able to gain
market share quicker than the competition mainly due to the "halo effect" from the iPod. The halo
effect is the idea that continued sales of iPods to Windows users will eventually translate into
increased Mac sales. Other factors that have contributed to Apple's ... Show more content on

Cook also plays a key role in reseller and supplier relationships. Prior to his career with Apple, Cook
has also worked for Compaq and IBM. Peter Oppenheimer is Apple's Senior Vice President and
Chief Financial Officer. Oppenheimer overseas the controller, treasury, investor relations, tax,
information systems, internal audit and facilities functions. He joined Apple in 1996, coming from
ADP, where he was CFO of the four strategic business units. Prior to his career with ADP,
Oppenheimer spent six years in the Information Technology Consulting Practice with Coopers and
Lybrand where he managed financial and systems engagements for clients in the insurance,
telecommunications, transportation and banking industries.
SWOT ANALYSIS Apple's strengths include their knowledge of the customer base, high quality
products, brand name, innovation, product diversification, and the products' ease of use. The iPod
has given the company access to a whole new series of segments that may purchase other Apple
brands. Brand has proven to be very important for Apple. They have a loyal group of consumers that
advocate the brand and also help to procure new customers.

Stay With Me Case
1. Provide an argument for why a variable pricing policy might increase the sales revenue from
Apple's Music Store (compared to the flat pricing policy).
Variable pricing policy allows Apple to increase sales revenue by pricing more popular songs or
artist at a higher price, then less popular songs or lessor known artist. Let us take for example the
Grammy winner for Best New Artist Sam Smith and the song of the year Stay with Me, today you
can purchased the song for $1.29, but let us assume ITunes ups the price to $1.39 sells 100 copies.
$1.29 X 100 = $129 or $1.39 X 100 =$139, ITunes can increase sales by $10.00 for every 100
copies sold based on popularity. Eventually the cost of the song will increase due to popularity and

Keeping with the same theme of the Grammy winner Sam Smith, ITunes will often make
suggestions of other artist based on purchases and searches. If you do a search for Sam Smith and
purchase one of his songs, ITunes will recommend other songs you might like. As a way to
encourage you to buy these songs they will price the less know artist or song at lowers prices.
Additionally, the three point price allows ITunes to make generate more revenue of less popular
songs. As artists and songs become popular the more money the artists can request in royalties. The
profit margin on lessor known songs and artist is probably greater at .69 cents and .99 cents than that
of a more well–known artist at $1.29.
3. Discuss other potential pricing policies that might increase the revenue from Music Store sales.
Another way Apple's iTunes Music Store might increase revenue is with product bundling pricing.
According to Brickley (2015), "bundling products extract additional profits from consumers with
heterogeneous product demands, bundling can be more profitable than selling the products
separately" (Brickley, p.g 243). For example, iTunes can generate more sales by bundling
soundtracks to movie video or even audio books to movie video. I like that movie Pitch Perfect 2
and I downloaded the movie to watch while flying last week. I spent $9.99, the Pitch Perfect 2
sound track is $6.99. ITunes could have bundle these two together for $13.99, increasing possible

Abstract
Since April 2003, iTunes Music Store has permitted the consumer to purchase music and digital
books over the Internet with success. By 2005 their shares increase significantly as a result of their
tremendous success. Their product became a platform for the digital music business to explode into
the industry it is today. This also made digital music affordable to the consumer who may have gone
to illegal downloads in the past which in turn ensured that the music industry was getting paid for
their product as well. The $0.99 cents per song download provided $0.70 cents to be paid to the
record companies and the remainder ($0.29 cents) was Apple profit. By August 2005, some of the
larger record companies felt that their product was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If firms have market power they can raise their prices without losing all customers to competitors.
Firms have as ultimate objective to choose the pricing policy that boosts the value of the firm.
Managers are trying all the time to devise a pricing policy that captures as much gain as possible
catching costumer surplus as company profit. For managers and companies in general, only
incremental prices matter in pricing decisions. As this case show, iTunes has certain power on their
loyal costumers and confronting the risk of some decreases on sales, iTunes took the risk when they
increase their song's prices and at the end, the most loyal costumers remained whit the company.
The potential costs were evident when iTunes suffered at the first moments a fall in sales. Was very
worrying that people were still able to download free music from other sites. Nevertheless, iTunes
survived, and the company was still betting on iPods sales at the same time.
4) Is Apple's pricing objective to maximize the revenue it receives from the sales of the downloaded
music? Is this the objective of the major record companies? Explain. (Hint: review the
revenue/product data from Apple's 10–K)
Apple as all companies is interested in maximize its revenues, but it not its objective reach it trough
the downloaded music pricing strategies which is the objective of the record companies. Apple is

Apple iPods Changed the Way we Listen to Music
iPods have positively influenced the way people all over the world listen to and share music in the
blink of an eye. Since Apple introduced the first iPod in 2001, 350 million iPods have been sold as
of September 2012. That's enough iPods for every single person in the United States to have their
own device with twenty million still left over. Those are some pretty staggering numbers,
considering more iPods are sold every second.
The iPod has seven main parts: hard drive, battery, click wheel, display, microprocessor, video chip,
and audio chip. Older models of the iPod (with the click wheel) have a hard drive. On the inside of
the device, the hard drive is made up of platters, spindle motors, heads and head actuators. Platters
are little disks that are covered with a magnetic surface and then placed on a spindle. The disks have
a cobalt alloy substance applied to them which is placed on the platter by electroplating. Digital
information is stored on the disks and information is written on the disks by electromagnetic flux
through "read–write" heads that change the polarization. As the platter rotates, the magnetic fields
move and the "read–write" head senses electrical change between the moving magnetic fields.
The iPod has a small Liquid Crystal Display (more commonly known as an LCD). The molecules in
the liquid crystals in the screen go through multiple changes, one being the nematic phase. The
twisted nematic is manipulated when the electric current is applied to it.

An Army Of One-Me Analysis
Nowadays, some people have strong opinions on the increasingly problems caused by the
Generation Me because of their high self–esteem. Jean Twenge analyzes the self–esteem in her
essay "An Army of One: Me", and she sheds light on the difference between baby boomers and the
generation me, making us to rethink why self–esteem is such a severe problem to the generation me,
but benefit the boomers. Though it may sounds hard to understand what causes the difference, but
by viewing Maggie Nelson's essay "Great to Watch", we can get some new ideas. Nelson points out
the importance of making "slow thinking", which means thinking carefully before rush into taking
actions. The reason behind slow thinking is that people are too easy to be distracted from ... Show

A misleading immediate context can give false sense to the GenMe, while a positive immediate
context can give solutions to problems. When saying "immediate context", Gladwell claims it as
"Specific and relatively small elements in the environment" (162). These small elements, or signals,
are serving as tipping points, which shows that changes are always possible if we can simply change
the immediate context. That is, we should always notice the both sides of immediate context. For
example, when the crime rate was extremely high in the New York, David Gunn realized that graffiti
in the subway system is one of the small elements that send disorders to the public. On the one side,
"The graffiti was symbolic of the collapse of the system" (Gladwell 152). On another side, the
graffiti also gives a solution to the crime problem that if we clean up the graffiti, signals of disorders
will be changes immediately into good orders. Similarly, most of the GenMe misunderstand the
meaning of high self–esteem because they received wrong signals from the immediate context.
Twenge lists some examples of the educational immediate context by saying that, "In the United
States, office stores have started carrying large stocks of purple pens, as some teachers say that red
ink is too 'scary' for children's papers" (499). The change of colors is one small signal, and students
will respond due to this signal automatically. Instead of feeling

Effects Of Technology On Music
"Technological Advances in Music and its effects"
Introduction
In the early years of music, musicians performed on stage with live bands and orchestras to the
locals in the community. Their music consisted of many harmonies and rhythms that would relax the
mind and ease stress. Their classical style of music had more of a string type sound, in comparison
to the rough and rugged sounds of today's music. Did this rough music affect the way we hear things
compared to their classical harmonic sounds? What technological advances in musical devices have
caused these effects if there are any? Does music now affect the way we live compared to the music
of the past? Back in the day people had no means of carrying around music as portable ... Show

This was the case because headphones of the past were only used in the business industry as a way
of communication. However, before one can derive whether a particular design is prone to cause
more damage than the other, one must first understand the ear and the process of hearing. Hearing
involves the external, middle, and inner ear. The auricle is what most people consider to be the ear
itself, which is the external flesh on the outside head. Inside the auricle is a passage way known as
the external auditory meatus (Seeley, Stevens, & Tate, 2002). Inside are hair–like structures and
ceruminous glands, which serve as the lining for the meatus. Also, the ceruminous glands produce
cerumen, more commonly known as earwax (Seeley, Stevens, & Tate, 2002). Together, the hairs and
cerumen provide protection to the tympanic membrane, or eardrum, which separates the external
and middle ear. Sound waves, vibrations of air, pass through the tympanic membrane, causing
vibrations. Located in the middle ear are three auditory ossicles. These ossicles are the only three
bones of the ear, which are the malleus, incus and stapes. Vibrations of the tympanic membrane also
cause the ossicles to vibrate. Vibrations are amplified and transferred to the oval window, one of the
two openings, by the stapes (Seeley, Stevens, & Tate, 2002). This produces movement in the
perilymph of the cochlea. Perilymph is the fluid filled

Innovation and Change of the Ipod Essay
Innovation and Change of the Ipod
INTRODUCTION
This report on innovation and change examines how Apple's iPod is the first entry into the
marketplace that addresses the needs of the portable digital music market segment. It explains how it
is small enough to fit comfortably in a shirt pocket. It shows how the device addresses the
shortcomings of other portable MP3 music devices. It also looks at how market segmentation has
been one of the most vital factors fueling the demand for technological products, as companies
recognize that segmentation equips them to generate more sales than the mass marketing approach
of the late 20th century. The report examines how Apple understood the needs of the digital music
community, together with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, rather than learning more about new artists, the consumer learns more about his or her
own tastes by creating his or her own mix. Not only is this but it a new technological way to enter
the world of Music. Just in a box smaller then the size of your hand you can have all the latest,
music, videos, internet, pictures and etc. You can choose the color you want the Ipod or any other
accessories that come with it, you can personalize your Ipod so it represents your personal style.
2. There are various ENVIRONMENTAL CHANGES that are leading to today's development of
new products or improvement of current products. Consumer's needs and wants are changing from a
day to day basis and businesses must keep up with these demands. The following are the needs for a
new innovative product:
Changing Nature of Markets –Consumer demands change; Ipod must monitor the market and adjust
production. On the other hand a product can also be in high demand by the consumer and the
production would have to increase on short notice to meet the demand.
Economic Factors – The general level of economic activity in Australia and the rest of the global
economy tends to fluctuate through periods of upturn and downturn. The level of activity in Ipod
also moves through similar cycles.
Financial Factors – The availability and cost of finance is a key input which can determine whether
Ipod can introduce a new innovation or weather it should just re improve the product.

Case Study : The Apple Of Your ' I '
Case Study 1 – The Apple of Your "I"
The 1980s was an exciting time in the history of computer science. A variety of companies were
competing in the computer market, including Apple, IBM and Microsoft. At the time, Apple owned
20% of the PC market, but the direction of the company went downhill after Steve Jobs was forced
out of the company in 1985 over the commercial failure of the Apple Macintosh PC (Entrepreneur,
2012). The company had made enough mistakes that computer retailers had lost all faith in Apple
(Kroenke, 2014). The problem was only compounded by the fact that Apple hired on a long series of
CEOs who failed to manage the company properly (Kroenke, 2014). In 1996, Steve Jobs returned to
Apple with the help of Gil Amelio, a company board member who adamantly believed Jobs was the
"only one...who [could] rally the Apple troops, [the] only one...who [could] straighten out the
company"(Hormby, 2006).
Under the tutelage of Steve Jobs, Apple laid dormant for about five years only to resurface in 2001
with a completely new product line, which consisted of the iPod and iPhone in an era when digital
media (such as music and books) was fast becoming popular (LePage, 2006). Success was not
immediate for Apple because nothing seemed unique about iTunes, the iPod, or the iPhone at first
glance. Cell phones, MP3 players, and online music stores had existed for quite some time, which is
probably why it took about three years for Apple to see a response in the sales

Diversity in products and their prices helps Apple remain an inelastic company, regarding their
demand. If a price rises for one of their products, there is sure to be another product that moves into
that previous product's price range that is still comparable in design and quality. There will always
be people to buy the more expensive items not only because of Apple's positive brand recognition
and loyalty, but because Apple consistently produces quality and innovative products; including, if
Apple finds a defect or fault, they fix the problem for free or replace the product altogether. With
Apple being so far ahead of their competition, the only problem one can foresee in Apple's future is
how long they can sustain such innovation before they plateau. Apple does a phenomenal job at
releasing their innovative products before their competition, but if their innovation cannot hold
steady, this may lead to changes in demand for their products considerably. This can be seen with
their release of the iPhone, the first successful touch screen cellular phone. Although people
swarmed to the iPhone when it was first released because of its advanced technology, as the years
have passed, other similar designs, including those with android and windows based operating
systems, have drawn a considerable portion of the market. A clear representation of Apple's attempt
to regain some of this market can be seen when the iPhone was released to Verizon Wireless'

Apple Inc. Company Analysis
When talking about Apple as a company, there is no doubt in regards to its brilliant business
strategies and how innovative it is. Apple Inc. was founded by Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak, and
Ronald Wayne in April of 1976. The company is one of the number one market leaders in the
technology industry with a revenue of more than $500 billion in 2013. It was able to expand the
business worldwide due to such a high demand, which it now has more than 400 stores in more than
10 different countries. The company is well known for continuous innovation through its products
mix include iPod, iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, iOS, and OS X operating systems, as well as iCloud
and other supporting offerings.
Despite the economy downturn in 2008, the company was still able to maintain its profit and
revenue years after that. According to Gamble and Marino (2013), "The record in growth in
revenues and profits came primarily from volume increases in the sale of iPhones and iPads, which
increased by 142% and 183%, respectively, from the same period in 2010." (Apple Inc. in 2011,
p.350). How was Apple capable of setting itself apart from rivals in order to maintain its position in
the marketplace? The answer lies on its leverage in creativity and products innovation. Apple is
extremely diversified in terms of the product lines as mentioned earlier, it's the purpose and
commitment in providing the most outstanding services and innovative products.

beginning period of its production due to marketing and technological innovation and the company
has invented. Apple grew quickly as the development of the products increases and the revenue

For Apple to sell its products at a premium price, it must be a trusted and well–known brand. As it is
obvious today, Apple has created many loyalty customers.
Recommendations and Implementation
1. In order for Apple to create more revenues and continue to stay in business, Apple's management
team should not only depend on Steve Jobs. The management team must work as a team and make
sure that the company can still be successful without Steve Jobs. It is true that because of Steve
Jobs, Apple has become a successful company but Steve Jobs is not going to be with Apple forever
and the management team must take that into consideration and be able to carry on the business
without Steve Jobs.
2. Some alternatives include developing new products every so often to attract consumers. Apple is
already good at doing this because it is always renovating its products in many different ways
whether it is a Mac Book, an iPod, or an iPad to attract its customers and keeping up with the
society. This alternative is good for both long–term and short–term. People will continue to trust that
the brand is still attracting.
3. Some of the implementation that should be considered is to hire the right people to work for the
company; people that will bring new ideas to the company. Because Apple is always developing

Summary Of Cathy Davidson's Classroom Makeover
In Cathy Davidson's, "Classroom Makeover", Davidson analyzes and elucidates upon the faults she
observes in the American education system. Davidson uses her own experiences in the education
system to explore alternate methods of teaching that would cater to the strengths of a greater
population of students. For instance, Davidson introduces an iPod experiment that she conducted at
Duke University, in which she gave all first–year students free iPods to use in class. Expectedly, the
upper–classmen were annoyed that they were not given iPods also and therefore, Davidson allowed
upper–classmen to take part in the iPod experiment if they were able to have one of their professors
implement the integration of the iPod in their class. In this way, she describes how the freshman at
Duke University were able to enhance their educational experience by the integration of technology
in the classroom and the upperclassmen were able to use iPods as an incentive to creatively persuade
their professors in various classes to integrate this technology. Similarly, Davidson introduces the
case of a middle school student as well as a teacher who introduced games in her classroom to teach
lessons, as a means of illustrating that intelligence can be demonstrated in ways other than excelling
in the traditional evaluations. Consequently, she believes that the current education paradigm does
not benefit unique individuals and that the education system must change in order to aid everyone,

Financial Analysis And Assessment Of Apple Inc. Essay
This paper intends to provide a financial analysis and assessment of Apple Inc. from the years of
2005 to 2009. The evaluation is based on the numbers calculated from the data on Apple Inc.'s
Financial Performance Worksheets. This paper covers three areas. The first part of the paper
contains a brief history of Apple and the position of the organization in the market of computers.
The second part is a calculation of Apple 's performance and the reasons for their success. Finally, a
conclusion and recommendation for Apple Inc. According to Poeter (2012), Apple was founded by
Stephen Wozniak, Steven Jobs and Ronald Wayne in California on April 1, 1976. Ronald Wayne
parted ways with Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak just 8 days after co–founding Apple. In the early
years, Apple released products like personal computers and operating systems. These products were
not very prosperous. After a lackluster period, 21 years after the company was founded, Steve Jobs
returned and led Apple Inc. to its resurgence. Since his return, Apple has grown into a giant in the
personal computer marketplace. The innovation of Apple products has led the group to increase its
skill in developing the iPod, the iPhone, iTunes and iWork's products. Over the years, Apple has
been able to create products that are almost impossible to emulate. Apple has placed the
organization in a competitive advantage over its competitors. Apple PC's are still one of the best
desktop computers on the market.

I. Introduction
A. Attention Getter: How many people in this room own or have owned an IPod, IPhone, or IPad?
Isn't astounding how one man's vision and innovation gave us all devices that have made the world
today more connected than it's ever been? Devices we NOW can't imagine leaving behind when we
walk out the front door in the morning. Whether it's listening to music in your bedroom, reading the
news on the train ride to work, checking your email at home or even sitting in a waiting room
watching Netflix. It's hard to deny the influence and impact that Steve Jobs has had on modern
culture.

According to Jobs "The device that could eat their lunch was the cellphone."
a. Camera sales had already begun declining since the addition of camera's to cellular phones and
Jobs knew the same thing could happen to the IPod if cell phones added a music feature to the
device.
b. In response to this Apple partnered with Motorola to create a sibling to the already popular
Motorola RAZR, the phone was called the ROKR. Unfortunately with the 100 song limit and not so
skinny build the ROKR didn't have the expansive music library that the IPod had and lacked the
beauty and sleekness of the Motorola Razr. Jobs hated it.
2. Not the first – Other companies had made smartphones, Apple wasn't the first but Apple built a
better device and that's what changed the industry. Choosing to do it on his own Jobs acquired a few
companies already building touch screens and multi touch systems and began to work on his phone.
a. Same features, New phone – Jobs felt by integrating applications, contacts, email, calenders and
music all in one but making the whole device more user friendly he could appeal to a desire
cellphone consumers had longed for.
3. The Statistics – Apple introduced the IPhone in 2007, according to Forbes Magazine, today Apple
has sold over 100 million IPhones.
Transition: What many don't know is that to build the IPhone Jobs drew several resources and ideas
from a secret project he had already been working on. The IPad.

I am going to start off by going into a little bit of history about apple and how it has grown over the
past 10 years or so, I am also going to talk about some new products from Apple such as Apple TV
and the iphone, as well as the name change, and the new direction they have chosen to take with
their marketing and what it has helped them accomplish over the past couple of years.
Apple Inc. has come a long way from what it used to be. The computer market has always been a
PC based system being mainly pushed by the Microsoft software platform. Apple Computers has
been struggling to make it in the computer market for a long time, going up against their competitor
Microsoft who had a monopoly on the market. Microsoft had such ... Show more content on

This was just the start for Apple's new ideas and goals to penetrate the consumer market.
All throughout the early 21st century the iPod has been the sought after mp3 product. Everybody
had to have one, and if you did, you were pretty cool. In 2004 Apple joined up with U2 to help
promote their new 20 gig ipod release. This was a great example of apple's new marketing plan,
going for the entertainment and media side of the market.
Another side of Apple that really made the music industry happy was then they started to sell songs
on itunes for $1 a song. Music Pirating was a huge issue throughout the early 21st century and
Apple was on the for front of helping fix that. In 2007 Apple introduced the iPhone and Apple TV,
two revolutionary products that is changing Television as well as the cell phone market as we know
it.
Apple TV is setting a new standard for the viewing of media, it gives the consumer the capability to
wirelessly connect their computer to their television to stream virtually any video, song or website
on the internet through their TV. This is the new are of wave of media technology allowing people to
watch whatever they want whenever they want without any regular scheduled programming. This is
also a major bonus for television marketers since they are able to tell exactly how many views each
show or video is being watched.
Onto the iPhone. When the iphone hit the market it was a must have item. Everybody wanted one!

Unethical Sweatshops
The term 'sweatshops' depict business establishments that utilise their employees to work under
harsh and socially unacceptable conditions with minimal wages for extensive hours, disregarding
laws of mandating overtime pay or a minimum wage. The concept of 'sweatshops' is complex, as it
merely depends on in which perspective it is viewed from. Businesses will claim that it is not
unethical or that they are not compromising human rights as employees are 'enthusiastic' or 'grateful'
to attain a role in the business and receive a stable income; that they are only improving lives by
maintaining a central component within these developing countries (Lehmann, 2010).

The Impact Of Music On The Music Industry
No one can deny that technology is actively changing the music industry. Production, distribution
and sales of music have been affected dramatically within the last 10 years along with artists,
composers, and technicians. Most of the changes have been great for consumers, but vastly negative
for professionals in the music industry, however a few artists have found ways to adapt to the
changing atmosphere of digitally downloaded music and use it to their advantage. We've seen music
change form from physical, tangible products like records and CD's to electronic single tracks stored
in an invisible cloud. Two major factors in this sudden revolution are online music stores
(specifically iTunes) and file sharing websites that allow music to be downloaded illegally.
Since the iTunes music store was introduced on April 28, 2003, gross music sales have plummeted
in the United States – from $11.8 billion in 2003 to $7.1 billion in 2012, according to the Recording
Industry Association of America (Covert). Counterintuitively, during that time consumers were
buying more music than ever. How is that possible? It 's because iTunes had made digital singles
popular and was selling them cheap. This would change the music industry forever. In 2000,
Americans bought 943 million CD albums (Covert), and digital sales didn't even make a dent in
comparison. But by 2007, those inexpensive singles overtook CDs by a wide margin, generating 819
million sales compared to just 500 million for the CD.

Leaders of innovation must imprint their DNA onto their organization to the extent that it resonates

Apple Computer redefined the portable digital music player market with its launch of the iPod
digital music player. This began in January of 2001, when it introduced its jukebox software called
iTunes. This software enabled Macintosh users to import songs from audio CD's converting them to
MP3 format and storing them on the computer's hard drive. It later launched the iPod digital music
player in October of 2001. The iPod was designed to synch to songs and playlists from iTunes via a
Firewire cable connection. Once music was downloaded, the iPod provided for 10 hours of
continuous play from its rechargeable lithium–polymer battery. Media is stored on iPod's internal
hard disk (Day, 2005).
The iPod has evolved with subsequent product generations so that it could be used by both Windows
and Macintosh users with iTunes software being made available for each operating system. The iPod
features the company's patent pending, Click Wheel, which combines a touch sensitive wheel with
five push buttons for one handed navigation. Apple touts this feature as one of the industry's first
(Day, 2005).
In October 2005, Apple introduced the new iPod containing a 2.5 inch color screen that enables it to
display album artwork and photos, and play video including music videos, video podcasts, home

They went out and found a guy by name of Ron Wayne. He was one of Steve's associates from
Atari. Ron was the guy who wrote the paperwork to start a corporation, and he also drew the first
Apple logo. Apple was born. Later they bought him out for only $800. Then found another investor
by the name of Mike Markkula in which he invested $250,000 for 1,000 computers. In which Steve
and Wozniak decided to put their boards into a plastic casing. At the age of 56, Steve Jobs is now the

little computers had it all for the times. The iMac was a real user friendly computer. It was delivered
to the public in a white plastic case and a GUI (Graphical User Interface) like no other computer has
ever done. The competition was nowhere to be found. That was the beginning of Apple being
publically traded at the stock market. Today the iMac is a state of the art computer. It has a flat
screen display screen and computer all in one. Very unlike the personal computer that has a separate
display monitor from the computer. "It put everything you need in a single device the display,

(Apple, 2010). The company was founded by Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak. Jobs also asked his
former colleague from Atari, Ronald Wayne to join them in their startup. Wayne designed the first
Apple logo. In early 1976 Jobs approached a local company store, The Byte Shop, said they would
be interested in the machine, but only if it came completely assembled (Foljanty, 2010). The shop
ordered 50 Apple I computers which sold for $666.66. The three owners would assemble the Apple

Apple iPod from Business Perspective Essay
Technology has changed in the terms of portable music and with the invention of the Apple iPod in
2001, the ease and accessibility to download and listen to music has never been easier. Apple has
developed a device that weighs no more than 6.2 ounces (and as few as 3.6 ounces) and can hold up
to 10,000 songs. Despite the weak market overall, the market for digital media is undeniably hot and
barring a consumer spending meltdown, it should stay that way. In light of current computer market
conditions, Apple is wise to leverage a moderately priced consumer product like iPod to generate
revenue. The iPod is an excellent opportunity to drive an additional revenue stream. Despite current
global economic conditions, information technology is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sony will now become a competitor against the original portable device. The difference will be
about $100 – $200 higher in price for Sony product; but storage space is higher is this unit. This fall
will bring additional players to the market as a number of companies are introducing their own
versions. "Creative Labs will unleash its Zen Portable Media Centre"
(www.technewsworld.com/story/35313.html) in August which includes a 3.8 video screen and plays
80 hours of music. At the same time, Samsung will release their version of a portable music device.
Both of those will retail at $499, again higher than the iPod, but with additional features.
"September also sees the release of Hewlett Packard's entry into the digital player market with a re–
branded version of the iPod. It is rumored to have a 60–GB capacity."
(www.technewsworld.com/story/35313.html). This market is going to become very cluttered with
each company trying to outdo the other with extra benefits.
Although sales of the iPod have already beat expectations, the reduction in price will create even
more buzz resulting in continued exceeding sales. Like any technological product, the iPod has a
demand that is price elastic. By having the ability to download legal songs within seconds and keep
them on a unit that is

Essay on Historical Timeline of Apple Inc
Apple Case Study
Historical Timeline of Apple Inc.
Apple Incorporated has come a long way over the years, starting more than 3 decades ago in 1976.
Apple was founded by Steve jobs, Steve Wonzniak and Ronald Wayne initially entering a niche
market in the production of the first computer, the Apple I, followed by the Apple II in 1978. Apple
began its career as a successful company based upon strategic innovation, and they remain that way
today, but it wasn't always sunshine and lollipops, they experienced their fair share of struggles too.
IBM entered the market in 1981 and gave Apple its first real competition. Apple managed to bounce
back and thrived on this competition to abolish complacency and starting findings new ways to stay

They have the ability to create products that people will buy despite the state of the economy. Apple
is a unique company in the way that there is a very prominent amount of consumers that will buy
everything that Apple puts on the Market. This type of supporting allows Apple to charge higher
prices for their products. In saying this alongside Apple's consumer loyalty they have created
numerous low priced products. The IPod Shuffle is an excellent example, which can be purchased
directly from the Apple website for just $49.
Obviously in a technology based industry there is a huge emphasis placed on technological
advancements. As stated earlier, technology can be related to international business but technologies
within Apple's products are the reason why they continue to leave their competitors in their wake.
The combination of the iPod with iTunes has been a huge success for Apple. On the 1st of
September 2010, it was announced that Apple had sold 275 million iPods, making it the biggest
selling digital music player of all time. Then when technology was advancing toward touch–screen
devices, Apple came out with the iPod touch, iPhone and most recently, the iPad. Apple's ability to
constantly stay one step ahead of its competitors is the driving force behind their success.

Apple Ipod And The Ipod

After my morning walk, I take a shower while listening to my favorite high–energy–time–to–wake– up music. The weather channel says it is going to be a rainy morning, so I grab my umbrella and head for the door. During the car ride, I toggle between the news and my French audio lessons. These events are done using a little device that seems to be everywhere you look. For the past years we have seen how Apple has introduced iPhones into the market for their consumers to purchase. We are aware that iPhones are better than an iPod because of the features and design. iPod touches may be out of the market, but I believe people still buy it, so they do not have to pay for cellular service. iPod classics are totally at a decline because I do not see people with these devices. After some disastrous losses in the 1980's and 1990's to their main competitor, IBM, Apple was able to re– invent the entire company. When Jobs returned to Apple in 1996, he took an expanded role and not only continually pushed for innovative ideas and products but also compelled several structural changes. • 7. Stay With Me Case 1. Provide an argument for why a variable pricing policy might increase the sales revenue from Apple's Music Store (compared to the flat pricing policy). Variable pricing policy allows Apple to increase sales revenue by pricing more popular songs or artist at a higher price, then less popular songs or lessor known artist. Let us take for example the Grammy winner for Best New Artist Sam Smith and the song of the year Stay with Me, today you can purchased the song for $1.29, but let us assume ITunes ups the price to $1.39 sells 100 copies. $1.29 X 100 = $129 or $1.39 X 100 =$139, ITunes can increase sales by $10.00 for every 100 copies sold based on popularity. Eventually the cost of the song will increase due to popularity and ITunes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Keeping with the same theme of the Grammy winner Sam Smith, ITunes will often make suggestions of other artist based on purchases and searches. If you do a search for Sam Smith and purchase one of his songs, ITunes will recommend other songs you might like. As a way to encourage you to buy these songs they will price the less know artist or song at lowers prices. Additionally, the three point price allows ITunes to make generate more revenue of less popular songs. As artists and songs become popular the more money the artists can request in royalties. The profit margin on lessor known songs and artist is probably greater at .69 cents and .99 cents than that of a more well–known artist at $1.29. 3. Discuss other potential pricing policies that might increase the revenue from Music Store sales. Another way Apple's iTunes Music Store might increase revenue is with product bundling pricing. According to Brickley (2015), "bundling products extract additional profits from consumers with heterogeneous product demands, bundling can be more profitable than selling the products separately" (Brickley, p.g 243). For example, iTunes can generate more sales by bundling soundtracks to movie video or even audio books to movie video. I like that movie Pitch Perfect 2 and I downloaded the movie to watch while flying last week. I spent $9.99, the Pitch Perfect 2 sound track is $6.99. • 9. iTUnes Abstract Since April 2003, iTunes Music Store has permitted the consumer to purchase music and digital books over the Internet with success. By 2005 their shares increase significantly as a result of their tremendous success. Their product became a platform for the digital music business to explode into the industry it is today. This also made digital music affordable to the consumer who may have gone to illegal downloads in the past which in turn ensured that the music industry was getting paid for their product as well. The $0.99 cents per song download provided $0.70 cents to be paid to the record companies and the remainder ($0.29 cents) was Apple profit. If firms have market power they can raise their prices without losing all customers to competitors. Firms have as ultimate objective to choose the pricing policy that boosts the value of the firm. Managers are trying all the time to devise a pricing policy that captures as much gain as possible catching costumer surplus as company profit. For managers and companies in general, only incremental prices matter in pricing decisions. As this case show, iTunes has certain power on their loyal costumers and confronting the risk of some decreases on sales, iTunes took the risk when they increase their song's prices and at the end, the most loyal costumers remained whit the company. The potential costs were evident when iTunes suffered at the first moments a fall in sales. Was very worrying that people were still able to download free music from other sites. Nevertheless, iTunes survived, and the company was still betting on iPods sales at the same time. 4) Is Apple's pricing objective to maximize the revenue it receives from the sales of the downloaded music? Is this the objective of the major record companies? Explain. • 11. Apple iPods Changed the Way we Listen to Music iPods have positively influenced the way people all over the world listen to and share music in the blink of an eye. Since Apple introduced the first iPod in 2001, 350 million iPods have been sold as of September 2012. That's enough iPods for every single person in the United States to have their own device with twenty million still left over. Those are some pretty staggering numbers, considering more iPods are sold every second. The iPod has seven main parts: hard drive, battery, click wheel, display, microprocessor, video chip, and audio chip. Older models of the iPod (with the click wheel) have a hard drive. On the inside of the device, the hard drive is made up of platters, spindle motors, heads and head actuators. Platters are little disks that are covered with a magnetic surface and then placed on a spindle. The disks have a cobalt alloy substance applied to them which is placed on the platter by electroplating. Digital information is stored on the disks and information is written on the disks by electromagnetic flux through "read–write" heads that change the polarization. As the platter rotates, the magnetic fields move and the "read–write" head senses electrical change between the moving magnetic fields. The iPod has a small Liquid Crystal Display (more commonly known as an LCD). The molecules in the liquid crystals in the screen go through multiple changes, one being the nematic phase. The twisted nematic is manipulated when the electric current is applied to it. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A misleading immediate context can give false sense to the GenMe, while a positive immediate context can give solutions to problems. When saying "immediate context", Gladwell claims it as "Specific and relatively small elements in the environment" (162). These small elements, or signals, are serving as tipping points, which shows that changes are always possible if we can simply change the immediate context. That is, we should always notice the both sides of immediate context. For example, when the crime rate was extremely high in the New York, David Gunn realized that graffiti in the subway system is one of the small elements that send disorders to the public. On the one side, "The graffiti was symbolic of the collapse of the system" (Gladwell 152). On another side, the graffiti also gives a solution to the crime problem that if we clean up the graffiti, signals of disorders will be changes immediately into good orders. Similarly, most of the GenMe misunderstand the meaning of high self–esteem because they received wrong signals from the immediate context. Twenge lists some examples of the educational immediate context by saying that, "In the United States, office stores have started carrying large stocks of purple pens, as some teachers say that red ink is too 'scary' for children's papers" (499). The change of colors is one small signal, and students will respond due to this signal automatically. Instead of feeling ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Effects Of Technology On Music "Technological Advances in Music and its effects" Introduction In the early years of music, musicians performed on stage with live bands and orchestras to the locals in the community. Their music consisted of many harmonies and rhythms that would relax the mind and ease stress. Their classical style of music had more of a string type sound, in comparison to the rough and rugged sounds of today's music. Did this rough music affect the way we hear things compared to their classical harmonic sounds? What technological advances in musical devices have caused these effects if there are any? This was the case because headphones of the past were only used in the business industry as a way of communication. However, before one can derive whether a particular design is prone to cause more damage than the other, one must first understand the ear and the process of hearing. Hearing involves the external, middle, and inner ear. The auricle is what most people consider to be the ear itself, which is the external flesh on the outside head. Inside the auricle is a passage way known as the external auditory meatus (Seeley, Stevens, & Tate, 2002). Inside are hair–like structures and ceruminous glands, which serve as the lining for the meatus. Also, the ceruminous glands produce cerumen, more commonly known as earwax (Seeley, Stevens, & Tate, 2002). Together, the hairs and cerumen provide protection to the tympanic membrane, or eardrum, which separates the external and middle ear. Sound waves, vibrations of air, pass through the tympanic membrane, causing vibrations. Located in the middle ear are three auditory ossicles. These ossicles are the only three bones of the ear, which are the malleus, incus and stapes. Vibrations of the tympanic membrane also cause the ossicles to vibrate. Vibrations are amplified and transferred to the oval window, one of the two openings, by the stapes (Seeley, Stevens, & Tate, 2002). This produces movement in the perilymph of the cochlea. A variety of companies were competing in the computer market, including Apple, IBM and Microsoft. At the time, Apple owned 20% of the PC market, but the direction of the company went downhill after Steve Jobs was forced out of the company in 1985 over the commercial failure of the Apple Macintosh PC (Entrepreneur, 2012). The company had made enough mistakes that computer retailers had lost all faith in Apple (Kroenke, 2014). The problem was only compounded by the fact that Apple hired on a long series of CEOs who failed to manage the company properly (Kroenke, 2014). In 1996, Steve Jobs returned to Apple with the help of Gil Amelio, a company board member who adamantly believed Jobs was the "only one...who [could] rally the Apple troops, [the] only one...who [could] straighten out the company"(Hormby, 2006). Under the tutelage of Steve Jobs, Apple laid dormant for about five years only to resurface in 2001 with a completely new product line, which consisted of the iPod and iPhone in an era when digital media (such as music and books) was fast becoming popular (LePage, 2006). Success was not immediate for Apple because nothing seemed unique about iTunes, the iPod, or the iPhone at first glance. Cell phones, MP3 players, and online music stores had existed for quite some time, which is probably why it took about three years for Apple to see a response in the sales ... Apple does a phenomenal job at releasing their innovative products before their competition, but if their innovation cannot hold steady, this may lead to changes in demand for their products considerably. This can be seen with their release of the iPhone, the first successful touch screen cellular phone. Davidson uses her own experiences in the education system to explore alternate methods of teaching that would cater to the strengths of a greater population of students. For instance, Davidson introduces an iPod experiment that she conducted at Duke University, in which she gave all first–year students free iPods to use in class. Expectedly, the upper–classmen were annoyed that they were not given iPods also and therefore, Davidson allowed upper–classmen to take part in the iPod experiment if they were able to have one of their professors implement the integration of the iPod in their class. In this way, she describes how the freshman at Duke University were able to enhance their educational experience by the integration of technology in the classroom and the upperclassmen were able to use iPods as an incentive to creatively persuade their professors in various classes to integrate this technology. Similarly, Davidson introduces the case of a middle school student as well as a teacher who introduced games in her classroom to teach lessons, as a means of illustrating that intelligence can be demonstrated in ways other than excelling in the traditional evaluations. Consequently, she believes that the current education paradigm does not benefit unique individuals and that the education system must change in order to aid everyone, and not ... • 54. The Impact Of Music On The Music Industry No one can deny that technology is actively changing the music industry. Production, distribution and sales of music have been affected dramatically within the last 10 years along with artists, composers, and technicians. Most of the changes have been great for consumers, but vastly negative for professionals in the music industry, however a few artists have found ways to adapt to the changing atmosphere of digitally downloaded music and use it to their advantage. We've seen music change form from physical, tangible products like records and CD's to electronic single tracks stored in an invisible cloud. Two major factors in this sudden revolution are online music stores (specifically iTunes) and file sharing websites that allow music to be downloaded illegally. Since the iTunes music store was introduced on April 28, 2003, gross music sales have plummeted in the United States – from $11.8 billion in 2003 to $7.1 billion in 2012, according to the Recording Industry Association of America (Covert). Counterintuitively, during that time consumers were buying more music than ever. How is that possible? It 's because iTunes had made digital singles popular and was selling them cheap. This would change the music industry forever. In 2000, Americans bought 943 million CD albums (Covert), and digital sales didn't even make a dent in comparison. But by 2007, those inexpensive singles overtook CDs by a wide margin, generating 819 million sales compared to just 500 million for the CD. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
