Cedar River Watershed Research Paper
Landscape description: The Cedar River Watershed covers 90,638 acres and is owned by the City of Seattle (seattle.gov). It is mainly managed to
support and provide clean drinking water to 1.4 million people in the Seattle area (seattle.gov). The watershed is generally divided into the lower
region and the upper region (see maps 2 and 3) (seattle.gov). History of land: In 1889 when Seattle began to take ownership of the watershed,
about 3000 acres of timber had already been logged (seattle.gov). Sometime between 1650 and 1675 a large fire sweep through the area about 1600 feet
elevation, by 1900 the upper forest was over 250 years old and consisted of fir, hemlock, and small amounts of cedar and spruce (seattle.gov). Between

The landscape of the watershed ranges between 500 feet and 5000 feet in elevation (seattle.gov). The lower watershed includes the Cedar River and
the basins downstream of Cedar Falls to Landsburg, while the upper region includes mountain valleys and ridges above Cedar Falls to the eastern end
at the Cascade Mountains (seattle.gov). 95% of the lower region is covered with second–growth forest ranging from 70 to 199 years old, and are
mostly conifer forest or mixed conifer/deciduous forest (seattle.gov). The upper watershed is the area that would make better suitable habitat for
the Golden Eagle. The upper region has a larger range of forest types than the lower region, and is dominated by conifer forests, including some old
growth forest (seattle.gov). 95% of all the old growth found in the watershed is located in the upper region; about 13,155 acres total (seattle.gov).
The sizes of the old growth fragments range from a few acres to 3,000 acres (seattle.gov). Most of the old growth is above 2,500 feet in elevation and

Tiger Woods, Kobe Bryant, and Michael Jordan, are just a few of the big names that help to sell Nike products. The line of Air Jordan products has
been hugely successful for Nike. The Jordan line of shoes and apparel has been extremely successful since it's beginning. The products are very
expensive but the demand allows for the high prices to bring profit. The competitors are now bringing in celebrity and athlete endorsements as well.
In many different ways Nike sets the standard for athletic shoes and apparel. Nike, and other similar firms, does not lower their prices for fear of a
price war. Instead they advertise heavily and have regular promotions. Nike has the upper hand in advertising because of their endless athlete and
celebrity endorsements. Even though they might lose money in the short run from their heavy promotions, they earn it back exponentially from the
sales. People wait in line for hours every time a new style of Air Jordan basketball shoes is released. This type of popularity and demand is the product

Raleigh Hills Stereotypes
Raleigh Hills is a small suburb just within Portland city limits, in the southwest hills of Washington County, though many often mistake it for being
within Beaverton. Housing a population of 5,896 people as of the 2010 census, the vast majority of the population is composed of either married
couples (50.8%), non–families (39.6%), or individuals (33.4%). So, in this way it deviates from the general vision of the suburbs being moreso
oriented towards families with children, but in my little cul–de–sac, such a stereotype is perpetuated. Well, there's at least one family with children in
the neighborhood, due to the fact that I'll often see a particular group of boys walking down the street. The neighborhood was named after one of
Washington county's ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yes, there are a few local businesses in the area, but very few are worth mentioning, at least by Portland's standards. There's a McMenamins bar and
a highly acclaimed lumber supply store, but otherwise, it's either chains or shady storefronts. What I find so funny about my neighborhood is how
desperately they try to be like Portland, or the "mainland" as I like to call it. But alas, it is merely a subsidiary, its own entity, despite what any of
the zoning codes may state. Most people when in the area are there because they're obligated to; they need to run errands, pick up their kids from
school or it's on their way to work. In short, it's hardly a destination, it's not trendy. There are no swanky hangouts or coffee shops. Everyone who
lives here keeps to themselves and goes about their day, which does have its benefits. For instance, I personally like feeling a sense of solitude when
I'm at home, and this is definitely provided for me in my pseudo cul–de–sac. I can play my music as loud as I want with no complaints, other than those
who actually live in my house. I don't fear someone looking in on me whilst relaxing in my rumpled PJ's, my greasy hair pulled into a bun too messy
to be perceived as "cute." I am able to reflect in the peace that I so often crave. I have a

My Favorite Place At The World Is The State Of Oregon
Oregon
My favorite place in the world is the state of Oregon. The reason for this being my favorite place is because of how green and simply beautiful this
place is. I have had the fortune of getting to visit this state twice. I even took a train ride home from Washington throughOregon down to California. I
must add the scenery is seriously beautiful. I have never seen so many trees in my life. The name Oregon means windstorm or hurricane. The reason
they gave it this name is because of the powerful chinook winds of the Columbia River that blows through this state. I also wanted to do this place
because they are known for their cheese and ice cream from the Tillamook brand. They also have a lot of wild berries growing and have about 80
national parks you can visit. In Cannon Beach there is the famous Haystack rock. Haystack rock is 235 ft tall and is home to wildlife. It also has
made great tidepools full of marine life. Crater lake happens to be the deepest lake in the United States and the second deepest in all of North America.
It also ranks number 9 in the world. The way this massively deep lake was formed was due to the collapse of a volcano ,known as Mount Mazama. Its
max depth is 1.949ft. Oregon consists of 6 different areas. The coast, Klamath mountains , Willamette lowlands,Cascade Mountains, Columbia Plateau
, and the basin and range region. The Pacific shoreline of Oregon is bordered by narrow coastal plains of sandy beaches, luxuriant

Rowland (2016) p.1 states,
"Developed markets like the United States are relatively stable, thereby proving Nike Inc. with the chance to continue its slow but steady growth in
these countries. The company also has opportunities to grow by increasing its operations in high–growth developing countries quickly. However, the
rapid expansion of emerging markets also threatens Nike by increasing labor costs in the company's supply chain and production facilities".
Since Nike introduced in the United States the social components for this company are huge because this company has put a plethora of effort into
its "look." The style of the Nike apparel has spread like fire throughout the United States and abroad, and today Nike is not known as just a sports
shoe. The market trend for this company is now pointing toward women, and with this opportunity, the company once again sees itself ahead of the
competition. As we all know the many apps, devices, equipment, and software have allowed MNEs to rise at alarming rates but as discussed before it
also leaves you exposed to negative publicity, so technology is a trend that researchers at Nike will forever assess and improve. Ahmed (2016) p.4 states,

Alaska–Yukon–Pacific Exposition (Seattle's Forgotten World Fair) "Gold!! Gold!! Gold!!" I heard a newsboy crying out the Seattle
Post–Intelligencer's morning headline in the Puget Sound area on July 17, 1897. The Puget Sound's residents who gathered at the small waterfront
area were attracted by the tempting title. The message had sent shock waves across entire North America. Within days, I saw thousands of fortune
seekers risking their lives for the unknown adventures of finding gold. The stampeders eagerly bought supplies and then boarded ships bound for the

Colorful flyers and significant graffiti were posted around Seattle. People excitingly held the flyers and keenly waited for the countdown of the
Alaska–Yukon–Pacific Exposition. Different flyer designs existed, and the one that was frequently presented as the formal invitation was a flyer that
represented the advantages of Alaska and Seattle (Stein and Becker 38). Similar to most people, I had sent the formal invitation to all of my friends
and family members on rectangular–shaped flyers. The background of the flyers promoted the natural resources and industrial advances of the Pacific
Northwest. On the right side of the flyer, which was the forest, the flyer included a painting of cut logs and a man holding an ax; this image
represented the abundance of natural resources and great logging industry of the Pacific Northwest. The middle part of the flyer showed a Drumheller
fountain and buildings; snow–capped Mountain Rainier was the focal point of the grounds. On the left side of the flyer, the snow–covered roads and
trees were displayed. Moreover, six huskies were used to pull sleds, and the rider with a beard stood with a whip on the snowy road. A totem pole
that was carved with the spiritual symbol "hawks" was also presented on the flyer. Two circles were drawn on the top left and right sides of the flyer.
The right circle represented the Northern Pacific Railway. The left circle had a busy ship; it represented the busy trade

Some of the social changes were women's rights, conservation, and minority groups fighting against discrimination. Women's rights was a big thing
back then. Women started entering higher professions and becoming doctors and lawyers. They fought to protect women and children. They also
raised money for libraries, schools, and parks. In 1919, women got the right to vote after working hard for several years. Conservation was really
important back then and still is to this day. Conservation means the protection of natural resources. Roosevelt loved the outdoors and worried about
the destruction of the wilderness, so he pressed for conservation. Roosevelt also had thousands of acres of land set aside for national parks, which is
a natural area protected and managed by the federal government. Minority groups fighting against discrimination was also a social change that
occurred in the progressive era. Some of these minority groups were Mexican Americans, African Americans, Jewish Americans, Asian Americans,
and Catholics. The NAACP worked for equal rights for African Americans. Mexican Americans formed mutualists, or mutual aid groups who helped
each other. Catholics were looked down upon and because of discrimination, the set up their own schools called parochial schools, or schools
sponsored by a church. Many of these minority groups just wanted to be treated equally and not be judged. Those are some social changes that took

This can be easily answered by looking at the global economy. The global economy consisted of many companies using third world countries as their
base for their factories that make their products. All these companies are backed by the World Trade Organization (WTO). According to the article:
"Ten Arguments against the WTO," the WTO is not concerned with where a company manufactures its products or the conditions that it takes place in.
The reason that Nike gets away with having factories as such in Vietnam, is that they are backed by the a very powerful world organization, the WTO,
thus allowing Nike to make huge profits. Nike has been pressured by many independent organizations, which fight for the rights of the factory workers,
and the types of conditions described in this paper. Despite its emphasis on logic and rationality, the primary goal of Nike are improving productivity
and increasing profitability. In order to maintain stability and the pressure from independent organizations, Nike has made some changes throughout
the years that benefit the workers, Nike's masterminds have the influential intelligence to reverse the negative impact, manipulate the market, combine
and transcend these organizational characteristics, carefully overuse labor market in lieu third countries paradoxes, synthesize opposites and combine

During the period of 1900–1920, which is now also known as the Progressive Era, the United States witnessed many beneficial changes in hopes of
improving the American lifestyle hence labelling the era as progressive. Not only did the reformers and the federal government succeed in major
changes such as woman suffrage, they also managed to regain control from corporate powers that had formed monopolies during the Gilded Age.

Although child labor was condemned as early as 1832, it was not eradicated until 1938 when the Fair Labor Standard Act was enforced. Much of the
progress that lead to the eradication of child labor occurred during the Progressive Era. In 1916, the Keating–Owen Child Labor Act prohibited the sale
of any of any interstate commerce of any goods produced by factories that employed children under fourteen, mines that employed children younger
than sixteen, and any facility where children under two worked at night or more than 48 hours daily. Although the act was deemed unconstitutional
during the court case of Hammer v. Dagenhart in 1918 (Doc G), its shows the governments willingness to cooperate and address to the public's outcry.
Another factor that contributed into the prohibition of child labor was due to the works of the reformers such as Jane Addams. (Doc. C) Individuals

The Issue Of A Physician Assisted Suicide Essay
Currently in America, terminally–ill patients in most states have only two options: receive treatments (some experimental) or wait for natural death.
The third option on the other hand, exists in only five states. For dying patients in Montana, Oregon, Washington, Vermont, and California, they have
the option for a physician assisted suicide (PAS). California recently passed the End of Life Option Act, thereby joiningOregon, Washington, and
Vermont when it comes to legalizing PAS via legislation. For Montana, PAS is neither legal nor illegal according to a court decision. Judging by the
fact that PAS is currently only practiced in five out of fifty states, it is clear that the issue of hastening the death of patients (by their own wishes)
remains a hotly debated topic. This paper will proceed to analyze how each of the five states tackled the issues surrounding PAS. When it comes to
Montana, as stated earlier, PAS is neither legal nor illegal. According to the website Death with Dignity, the writer states "the Montana Supreme Court
ruled 5–2, in Baxter v. Montana, that nothing in the state law prohibited a physician from honoring a terminally ill, mentally competent patient's
request by prescribing medication to hasten the patient's death" (______). Because of the fact that PAS is practiced in Montana thanks to a legal
technicality, there are no set guidelines for physicians. Instead, the debates are ongoing when it comes to the status of PAS within the state. Thus far,

remember running up is Mt. Baldy at 123 feet tall, the largest sand dune along the southern shores of Lake Michigan ("Indiana Dunes"). Behind all the

Florida Californi A Great Impact On The Most Diverse...
California has been known for it 's beautiful golden coast, stunning mountain ranges, and the always wonderful sunny weather. The state houses the
largest and second most diverse population of people in the United States. The large diversity of the people could be contributed by the vast differing
landscapes that stretch across the state. Northern California in particular, is home to a variety of enormous mountains, mountain ranges, beautiful
lakes, and forever flowing rivers. People come from all over to witness these breathtaking views. As for Southern California the alluring beaches,
rolling grass valleys, and various other attractions make for a significant difference to northern California. The difference in environments has a great
impact on the type of people that live in each region. An individual 's race, ethnicity, hobbies, political views, job, etc. all can have an impact on what
area of California they live in. Some people, including myself enjoy a lot of outdoor activities that fit well in Northern California areas such as hunting,
hiking, snowboarding, etc. Meanwhile, people that live in southern California may have much different outdoor hobbies due to the change in climate.
The contrast between north and south almost creates a split in the state. In 1941, the proposal of a new state, named the State of Jefferson would take

The current government regulations I researched pertain to the clinical guidelines and the civil rights of persons living with HIV/AIDS in Portland,

Stable housing promotes improved health, sobriety or decreased use of alcohol and illegal drugs, and, for some, a return to paid employment and

The Progressive Era provided a much needed counterbalance to the economic boom in the United States in the couple of decades prior. It provided a
significant increase in regulations to the industries that were running rampant with corruption during the Gilded Age that had not been regulated by the
government prior to this era. This helped protect the workers from abuses in the workplace and also gave workers increased protections while at work.
The Progressive Era permanently changed the American culture by having the federal government start to play a major role in the regulation of

Los Venditos, By Luis Valdez
"Los Venditos," which signifies "the sold out ones," is a play that was correlated by Luis Valdez and created by the Farm Workers Theater of Atzlan.
They have built their theater society with respect to the old show clubs that were common in the striker 's groups of the sixties and seventies. In these
groups, performing artists and performers would assume parts that would ridicule certain gatherings or people that they were opposing. Case in point,
if the produce pickers were striking against a cultivator, then the play would draw out every generalization that individual put stock in or each awful
quality that that individual had and would decorate it. They would make their focus out to be inept and uninformed. "Los Venditos" finishes this errand
extremely well on the grounds that it demonstrates each generalization that Anglos have against Mexican Americans, and places it in a manner that will
make any Anglo be embarrassed for having accepted such falsities. Everything that was put into the play was put there for a reason, whether it is a real
occurrence or a typical generalization. The storyteller before the play clarifies what the Theater Society of Aztlan is about. The storyteller is costumed
as the Aztec sun god in an Aztec elevated structure sanctuary. The range around the sun god was the old Aztec schedule. It demonstrates that the
Aztlans have a decent learning about their past. They are pleased that they are from the territory that the Aztecs started from. The play

While the number of states that vote to legalize marijuana is increasing, many states are still against legalizing marijuana. The research conducted was
aimed at identifying the connection between the dominating political ideology of a state and the likelihood of that state voting to legalize marijuana
for medical or recreational use.
The results reveal that states with a greater number of voters that vote liberal are more likely to vote to legalize recreational marijuana. However, the
results also show that this is not the case for medical marijuana. Additionally, in regards to the research hypothesis, while the results provide some
indication that states with more residents that identify as politically liberal are more likely to legalize marijuana for recreational use than are more
conservative states, that suggestion must remain just a suggestion since the results failed to be statistically significant. A likely reason as to why the
results of this study were not significant is due to the relatively small sample size. Not all of the fifty states in the United States have yet to address the
legalization of marijuana. Many of the states with the smallest liberal populations have not voted on the future of this issues in their state. In addition,
many of the states with large numbers of conservatives in the sample used in this study are Western states. This is significant

Existing laws in the states that permit physician–assisted suicide require that patients have a terminal illness (including Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, heart

C. The specific method in each state varies, but mainly involves a prescription from a licensed physician approved by the state in which the patient is a

PAS is very different thaneuthanasia because it is centralized around choice.
In PAS, the patient must self–administer the medications; the "assisted" portion attributes to a physician providing the medications, but the patient
decides whether and when to ingest the lethal medication. Euthanasia occurs when a third party administers medication or acts directly to end the
patient's life. Euthanasia is illegal in every state, including Washington. (CNN).
Two of the costly effects of limiting this option is lack of respect for autonomy and refusing to grant death upon those that wish for it.

It is mainly managed to support and provide clean drinking water to 1.4 million people in the Seattle area (seattle.gov). The watershed is generally divided into the lower region and the upper region (see maps 2 and 3) (seattle.gov). History of land: In 1889 when Seattle began to take ownership of the watershed, about 3000 acres of timber had already been logged (seattle.gov). Sometime between 1650 and 1675 a large fire sweep through the area about 1600 feet elevation, by 1900 the upper forest was over 250 years old and consisted of fir, hemlock, and small amounts of cedar and spruce (seattle.gov). The lower watershed includes the Cedar River and the basins downstream of Cedar Falls to Landsburg, while the upper region includes mountain valleys and ridges above Cedar Falls to the eastern end at the Cascade Mountains (seattle.gov). 95% of the lower region is covered with second–growth forest ranging from 70 to 199 years old, and are mostly conifer forest or mixed conifer/deciduous forest (seattle.gov). The upper watershed is the area that would make better suitable habitat for the Golden Eagle. The upper region has a larger range of forest types than the lower region, and is dominated by conifer forests, including some old growth forest (seattle.gov). 95% of all the old growth found in the watershed is located in the upper region; about 13,155 acres total (seattle.gov). The sizes of the old growth fragments range from a few acres to 3,000 acres (seattle.gov). Most of the old growth is above 2,500 feet in elevation and west of the Cedar River delta ... • 4. Raleigh Hills Stereotypes Raleigh Hills is a small suburb just within Portland city limits, in the southwest hills of Washington County, though many often mistake it for being within Beaverton. Housing a population of 5,896 people as of the 2010 census, the vast majority of the population is composed of either married couples (50.8%), non–families (39.6%), or individuals (33.4%). So, in this way it deviates from the general vision of the suburbs being moreso oriented towards families with children, but in my little cul–de–sac, such a stereotype is perpetuated. Well, there's at least one family with children in the neighborhood, due to the fact that I'll often see a particular group of boys walking down the street. The neighborhood was named after one of Washington county's ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Yes, there are a few local businesses in the area, but very few are worth mentioning, at least by Portland's standards. There's a McMenamins bar and a highly acclaimed lumber supply store, but otherwise, it's either chains or shady storefronts. What I find so funny about my neighborhood is how desperately they try to be like Portland, or the "mainland" as I like to call it. But alas, it is merely a subsidiary, its own entity, despite what any of the zoning codes may state. Most people when in the area are there because they're obligated to; they need to run errands, pick up their kids from school or it's on their way to work. In short, it's hardly a destination, it's not trendy. There are no swanky hangouts or coffee shops. Everyone who lives here keeps to themselves and goes about their day, which does have its benefits. For instance, I personally like feeling a sense of solitude when I'm at home, and this is definitely provided for me in my pseudo cul–de–sac. I can play my music as loud as I want with no complaints, other than those who actually live in my house. I don't fear someone looking in on me whilst relaxing in my rumpled PJ's, my greasy hair pulled into a bun too messy to be perceived as "cute." The reason for this being my favorite place is because of how green and simply beautiful this place is. I have had the fortune of getting to visit this state twice. I even took a train ride home from Washington throughOregon down to California. I must add the scenery is seriously beautiful. I have never seen so many trees in my life. The name Oregon means windstorm or hurricane. The reason they gave it this name is because of the powerful chinook winds of the Columbia River that blows through this state. I also wanted to do this place because they are known for their cheese and ice cream from the Tillamook brand. They also have a lot of wild berries growing and have about 80 national parks you can visit. In Cannon Beach there is the famous Haystack rock. Haystack rock is 235 ft tall and is home to wildlife. It also has made great tidepools full of marine life. Crater lake happens to be the deepest lake in the United States and the second deepest in all of North America. It also ranks number 9 in the world. The way this massively deep lake was formed was due to the collapse of a volcano ,known as Mount Mazama. Its max depth is 1.949ft. All these companies are backed by the World Trade Organization (WTO). According to the article: "Ten Arguments against the WTO," the WTO is not concerned with where a company manufactures its products or the conditions that it takes place in. The reason that Nike gets away with having factories as such in Vietnam, is that they are backed by the a very powerful world organization, the WTO, thus allowing Nike to make huge profits. The Issue Of A Physician Assisted Suicide Essay Currently in America, terminally–ill patients in most states have only two options: receive treatments (some experimental) or wait for natural death. The third option on the other hand, exists in only five states. For dying patients in Montana, Oregon, Washington, Vermont, and California, they have the option for a physician assisted suicide (PAS). California recently passed the End of Life Option Act, thereby joiningOregon, Washington, and Vermont when it comes to legalizing PAS via legislation. For Montana, PAS is neither legal nor illegal according to a court decision. Judging by the fact that PAS is currently only practiced in five out of fifty states, it is clear that the issue of hastening the death of patients (by their own wishes) remains a hotly debated topic. This paper will proceed to analyze how each of the five states tackled the issues surrounding PAS. When it comes to Montana, as stated earlier, PAS is neither legal nor illegal. According to the website Death with Dignity, the writer states "the Montana Supreme Court ruled 5–2, in Baxter v. Montana, that nothing in the state law prohibited a physician from honoring a terminally ill, mentally competent patient's request by prescribing medication to hasten the patient's death" (______). Because of the fact that PAS is practiced in Montana thanks to a legal technicality, there are no set guidelines for physicians. Instead, the debates are ongoing when it comes to the status of PAS within the state. Thus far, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. Statistical Analysis Of Medical Marijuana Results In order to assess whether the percent of a state identifying as liberal has an influence on the passage of marijuana legalization referenda, statistical analysis was conducted. The results are presented below. First, the results of a univariate analysis are presented. Then, the results of a bivariate Pearson's correlation coefficient are given. The mean percent vote for medical marijuana is 59.70% with a standard deviation of 6.84. The range for medical marijuana is 21 with at least one state with a high of 71% voting for medical marijuana and one state with a low of 59% voting for medical marijuana. While the number of states that vote to legalize marijuana is increasing, many states are still against legalizing marijuana. The research conducted was aimed at identifying the connection between the dominating political ideology of a state and the likelihood of that state voting to legalize marijuana for medical or recreational use. The results reveal that states with a greater number of voters that vote liberal are more likely to vote to legalize recreational marijuana. However, the results also show that this is not the case for medical marijuana. Additionally, in regards to the research hypothesis, while the results provide some indication that states with more residents that identify as politically liberal are more likely to legalize marijuana for recreational use than are more conservative states, that suggestion must remain just a suggestion since the results failed to be statistically significant. A likely reason as to why the results of this study were not significant is due to the relatively small sample size. Not all of the fifty states in the United States have yet to address the legalization of marijuana. Many of the states with the smallest liberal populations have not voted on the future of this issues in their state. In addition, many of the states with large numbers of conservatives in the sample used in this study are Western states. This is significant ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The specific method in each state varies, but mainly involves a prescription from a licensed physician approved by the state in which the patient is a resident. PAS is very different thaneuthanasia because it is centralized around choice. In PAS, the patient must self–administer the medications; the "assisted" portion attributes to a physician providing the medications, but the patient decides whether and when to ingest the lethal medication. Euthanasia occurs when a third party administers medication or acts directly to end the patient's life. Euthanasia is illegal in every state, including Washington. (CNN).
