JOB DESCRIPTION NΒ°4: Network Technician (+ Help desk)
Position Description: This position is part of the Infrastructure/Network Team (INT).
The INT oversees the conceptualization and development of the
Infrastructure/Network strategic plan of the EFCC project, provides overall
management and operational support of the information infrastructure, and contributes
to the advancement of information technology in support of the strategic directions of
ITS/UNODC.
Qualifications and experience:
- Diploma in computer engineering, computer science or a closely related
engineering field,
- Minimum of 2 years "hands on" experience on technical knowledge of
hardware and software of information technology infrastructure, servers,
workstations, desktop PCs, and peripherals.
- "Hands on" experience in the design, implementation, administration, and
maintenance of a Notes/Domino Messaging infrastructure is required.
- Experience with both Linux and Windows 2003 administration, and Active
Directory design and implementation,
- Good familiarity with TCP/IP, OS environments like Windows 2003 and
Linux.
- Good communications (spoken and written) skills, including the ability to
explain and present technical information; effectively train/advise users on
networking issues.
- Familiarity with best practices in network operations,
- Able to work under pressure and tight deadlines.
Duties and responsibilities: Working under the supervision of the Coordinator of
Information Technology (CIT) for the EFCC/UNODC project, the Network
Technician will undertake the following tasks in conjunction with other members of
INT:
- Attempt to resolve as many problem calls or service requests as possible on
initial contact.
- Diagnose and resolve any hardware, software, or connectivity problem with
minimum delay.
2. - Provide basic training to end-users on the use of standard systems and
applications.
- Draft end-user and/or technical documentation.
- Escalate problems/tasks to the appropriate parties in accordance with
established procedures (level1, 2 and 3).
- Detect problem patterns and recommend solutions.
- Install, exchange and repair desktops;
- Provide assistance during major projects related to the EFCC infrastructure
deployment;
- Perform tasks related to service needs, including equipment replacement,
equipment installation/de-installation, software installation, LAN connections,
returns to stock, site surveys, etc.
- Maintain, upgrade or enhance existing backup/restore support infrastructure;
- Assist in maintaining the documentation of backup and restore systems
pertinent to operations and system administration.
- The Infrastructure/Network Team provides service 24 hours a day, 7 days a
week for EFCC project. This staff member will possibly be required to work
or be on call on rotational basis at different times of the day or night to resolve
problems.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Duration of appointment: One year, with the possibility of renewal subject to
satisfactory performance.
