Military drones have been used since the late 19th century when Austria launched explosive balloons at Venice, and saw increased development and usage during World Wars I and II and the Cold War. However, it was not until around 2015 that domestic drones became widely popular, due to key flight technologies like Lithium-ion batteries, motors, and stabilization/GPS becoming inexpensive and accessible to consumers. The emergence of inexpensive drone components has created new career and industry opportunities in what is still a young and growing sector.
