1. Unlike the previous film, ‘Stepmom’ structurally does not talk about the main events
within the story of the film which initially inspired us. However, through this trailer, I
believe that the genre being a Drama and that sad events occur during this film is
implicit due to other aspects within the sequence. The music within the media text is
not a low yet soft sound, like most sad films yet through the voice over layered on
top of the dialogue and music, allows the audience feel like we are on a journey with
the characters and leaves us questioning as to why the sad occurrences have not
been shown. The camera movement and editing are very basic within this trailer,
opposed to the previous without jump cuts and close ups, instead this trailer has
used straight cuts with a simple pace. The slow pace of this editing I think reflects
the narrative enigma, by not having a fast pace shows that there will not be alot of
physical action or the genre shall not be portrayed in a fast way because the
occurrences in this film shall be with a sadder outcome. I believe that by the imagery
of families and children have been specifically aimed to the target audience, as
people within a family would be drawn to watch this. This would be effective to the
genre of the film, as those who would be affected or feel the highest empathy to the
plot would be those who could aline themselves with the characters, e.g. A family
member.
