The mother of a Grade IV pupil came to school to talk to her daughter's teacher about her
situation in the school class. As they talked, all students began to make noise, others shouted.
This condition causes the teacher irritable because of the noise. The teacher started yelling at
them and say a harsh word to students saying "mga tarantado kayo may kausap ako". This
simple word has in the mind of a mother, never consulted the principal or school counselor about
what the teacher said. Instead, this mother went directly to the division office and directly
complain of nasty comments from teacher to student to the superintendent. That same day, the
division superintendent summoned the school principal to report her at once. Without the
knowledge of the principal, she went to the division office as the order by the division
superintendent. The principal talked with the superintendent that she knows nothing of what is
happening, even before she left the school there are no parent complaining that teacher. Upon
reaching the school the principal summoned the teacher about the problem, she told the teacher
to recall who visited her in the school, what did she do with her students. Only then the teacher
knows that someone reported her nasty words from the division office.
Action: The principal called a meeting, discussed with the teachers the different forms of
violence, and verbal abuse is the most prevalent form. She cited that verbal abuse is punishable
by law and could result in administrative case or dismissal from service.
