Essay On Music Director
Once I graduate college, I plan to be a music director and teacher. Specifically, a high school band
teacher. Music is everything to me and I want to be able to teach the next generation why music is
so special, and to have them appreciate any musical talents that each kid possesses. I am going to
talk about what a music director job entitles, education needed to be one, their salary, additional
education, job availability, any technology skills and tools used in the job, and what the future
beholds for my job opportunities.
The job of a music director is an understated position in the field of education. They are a teacher of
a classroom with instruments and sheet music instead of textbooks. They aren't big on lecturing,
they generally like to include their students in the art that they a playing and ... Show more content

Serato Scratch Live VS Traktor Scratch Essay
Serato Scratch Live VS Traktor Scratch
Does turntable mixing define a DJ or can a computer DJ rock the house just
as hard? Nowadays, there are several types of equipment that a DJ (Disc Jockey)
can use to rock a party. Unlike twenty years ago with turntables and vinyl records,
today there are CD players, MIDI controllers, software programs, and turntables
connected to programs like Serato Scratch Live and Traktor Scratch that can be used
for performances. A lot of DJs have different opinions about this matter. Some feel
that sticking with turntables is the way to go because real DJs use wax (vinyl), and
some feel that keeping up with technology is evolution (some call it a revolution). The

Thus, allowing for the DJ to manipulate them with the many tricks
that have been learned through the years; scratching, juggling, and flashbacks. These
tricks have been used by many DJs as a unique signature to a performance that set
them apart from the norm. While both programs allow for scratching and turntable
tricks without any delay in song play, Traktor excels with its effects. It has the best
effects in sound options and potential of the effects on the market. For example,
the Traktor program allows the DJ to excel in his/her performance by adding over
twenty different effects options to the program. This comes from Traktor's years of
experience in engineering effects for other programs like Reaktor that has 3000+
effects and options available. Serato does have a series of effects and sounds that
are available, but its quality is less than to be desired. For instance, the amount of
effects available is twelve and there is a lack of quality that these effects have that can
sometimes make the track sound distorted. There is talk about increasing the sound
options by allowing for secondary programmers to add open source plug–ins to Serato,
but there is no scheduled date of when that will happen. In the meantime, if The
Bridge is added to Serato, taking advantage of Ableton's effects for a live performance
or studio recording session

It is my first time to write a digital essay, I really enjoy using pictures to give audiences more
precise scenarios about my story. It can give audiences more information about my experiences than
the simple written composition. Pictures will expand audience's imagination and make the story
more active. Moreover, the background music also plays an important role, which leads and
strengthens audience's emotion. I really involved in people's music when I was watching other
videos. Even if I did not experience the similar events, but the music drew my echo when I was
seeing their struggles, difficulties and joys. This amazing reactive pushed me to spend a lot of time
deciding the background music. I want to choose a complete song to accompany with my
experience. However, it is really hard to find a matched song, which not only needs to suit my story
but also needs to suit my speech length. According to those requirements, I had tried many songs
before I decided the final one. At the same time, I needed to edit my speech length in order to catch
the music. On the other side, corresponding photos are also a serious problem. I did not left any
relevantly photos about my story because the experience had happened seven years ago. I am not a
person who prefers to take photos all the time. Despite that the experience is important for me, I did
not realize its importance after many years when it had happened. Due to that reason, I struggled to

Comparison and Contrast of Cd Player and Ipod
Compare and Contrast of Musical Technology Technology has had an enormous impact on society
throughout history. It has mainly influenced culture, politics, and social issues. One technology that
pertains to all these issues is musical technology. Music has been around for ages, but began to
evolve during the late 1960's when many different types of music started forming. The reason music
became so popular all of a sudden was because people were starting to realize that no matter what
their "taste" is, there is at least one genre of music that will appeal to them. Two main modern ways
that individuals are able to listen to music is through the CD player and the iPod. The CD has been
around for many years, starting as a record, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
CD players have many versions and they come in many different price ranges depending on the
manufacturer. An individual can buy a decent CD player for one hundred dollars or less but the nicer
CD players range from two to six hundred dollars. Usually the more expensive CD players are the
ones that are able to hold multi–disk (ABT, 1997). However, people do not realize that after
purchasing the CD player, they will end up buying unnecessary items to enhance or make their CD
player unique and original. Some essentials could include remotes, system, CD cases, etc. For an
iPod, a person is going to spend more on the device itself. The average price range is from forty–
nine to three hundred and ninety–nine dollars. An iPod is a device that stores songs in the form of
MP3 and are stored in different files (Wikipedia, 2008). Usually when most people buy an iPod they
already have many CD's and different music. The great thing about the iPod is that it holds all the
music that you have. Keep in consideration when buying an iPod how much music you do have
because you will want to buy the iPod with the number of gigabits that fits you best. Also, you can
download iTunes free–of–charge and buy songs off of there. A great advantage of iTunes is that
instead of having to buy the whole album, an individual can just purchase the one

The Japanese Music Software Company Crypton
Problem statement This case study was in reflection of the Japanese music–software company
Crypton and their most successful product Hatsune Miku – a "pre–packaged Vocaloid software" that
eventually transformed to an internationally recognized Japanese virtual idol thanks to the
impressive power of co–creation. Amateur and professional music producers were able to buy this
software and use the pre–packaged synthetic vocals to make songs of their own, which were sung by
the virtual character Hatsune Miku. Through the years and massive sales, hundreds of thousands of
fans began creating not only songs, but artwork and animation involving this character and sharing it
online through Facebook, YouTube, and Crypton created site Piapro. Hatsune ... Show more content

This is the problem that this case analysis will be addressing: how to create synergy between
Hatsune Miku and the company's core purpose of developing and selling music software. Issues
Consumer and demand analysis From the product's launch, it sold at an unpredictable level
capturing 30% of Japan's music related software market within only three weeks. Today, its sales
have accumulated over approximately $100 million USD with Miku having "over 110,000 released
songs, 170,000 uploaded YouTube videos, 1,000,000 created artworks and nearly two million
Facebook 'likes'" (1). Around the globe, countries ask for concerts, consumers shop for merchandise,
and businesses plead for sponsorships with the virtual superstar. Demand is not dwindling, it 's
growing with each passing day. Competitor analysis There are other music–software companies out
there, globally and in Japan. Some in fact have even tried launching products of their own copying
the same strategies as Hatsune Miku, but with very minimal success. Crypton continues to dominate
the marketplace for this line of products through Miku, but the competition in the other areas of their
business does remain competitive. Competitors include: Ableton, Fruity Loops, Apple, Avid,
Steinberg, Sony and many more. Some of these competitors also have billions of dollars of capital at
their disposal as well, making them truly fierce competitors.

Downloading Music Should Be Made Legal Essay example
Downloading All Music Should Be Made Legal
In 1999, an 18–year–old college dropout named Shawn Fanning revolutionized the music industry
with the program he invented called Napster. Napster was an internet program that made it possible
for users to share music files for free. His product gained instant interest across America which
brought an opposite response from the Music industry. In 2001, as expected, Napster was sued for
copyright infringement by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and shut down at
the peak of its success. The media industry wanted the technology halted because it was terrified of
how it would affect the economy. Nonetheless, new programs are rising to take Napster's place and

Looking at the main headlines for downloading that originate from the RIAA, it can be noticed that
the word "illegal" is replaced by "unauthorized". This is because the courts state that the word
"illegal" is considered to be a false statement when making reference to downloading music. When
the topic is brought to discussion, two typical responses are shouted from the opposing sides.
Supporters of downloading and lobbyists alike both have very opinionated views on the situation.
Some people are arguing that stealing is stealing and wrong no matter what. But is the downloading
of music considered stealing per se? Providing a copyrighted source of material without charge may
sound ludicrous, but when comparing the downloading of music to radio broadcasting, very few
changes are present. Radio broadcasting is allowing listeners to sample copyrighted material free of
charge and is known as a great are kept up to date with the latest media releases. So if "free"
listening is the problem here, then the radio is much more a factor to be feared. Music downloading
functions in the same motion, but with more benefits to the artist. Without the free listening
opportunity presented by downloading, many new bands would never have the chance to extend
their music on a large scale, from a lack of funds. As quoted from a survey of Vintage Cask, "85% of
profit does not come from the selling of music CD's believe it or not, but from the selling of
merchandise like band shirts and

Million Dollar Band Research Paper
Alabama's Million–Dollar Marching owes its success to its directors, various sections, and the
upbringings of the band. The band's first conductor, Colonel Carleton Butler, began the band as a
military band in 1914. He was nicknamed the 'Father of the Million Dollar Band'. His music style
included high–paced tempos with quick stepping to elaborate maneuvers. Accuracy and style were
the key points to all his performances. He has won many awards such as being given the title of
Honorary Colonel in the Great State of Alabama by Governor John Patterson in 1959. Butler's most
outstanding achievement was being elected the first president of the newly founded Alabama

35 to 40 color guard members and majorettes, which gave the band its nickname 'Fat Albert.' James
Ferguson left the band with the words, "I was interested in music being played well by young

Musical Sound Processing And Techniques Of Digital Music...
Musical sound processing and techniques of digital musical analysis comes developed along with
speech processing and it might appear as a subset of speech processing. The difference of musical
signals from speech signals are their qualities like harmony and timbre, melody and rhythm etc.
Such qualities allow music to transcend the verbal speech and gives it the ability to influence the
human brain and thereby health. The paper looks into methods of analyzing the above mentioned
qualities of musical signal using fourth–generation programming language Matlab. Compact
commands and simpler syntaxes make the processing easier and it provides us with all the
information needed for further processing the music. More complex features such as the structure
and form, statistical information and emotional characteristic of notes are also discussed. The paper
presents how two different notes could be distinctly represented in terms of mathematical
information obtained from processing of their wave forms. The Matlab toolbox– MIRtoolbox has
been made use throughout the paper in order to simulate and present various ideas related to the
characteristics of music. This toolbox has been designed specifically for digitally analyzing music
and for extracting useful information from it. Only the software aspects are discussed in the paper

How Technology Has Influenced The Music Industry
"We shape our tools thereafter our tools shape us"
Technology has had a profound effect on our civilisation and culture, and this has been reflected in
the changing state of the music industry. This includes the development of virtual instruments, the
accessibility to digital audio workstation technology, file sharing, online music streaming, the
growth and development of social media platforms, and digital instruments. We live in an age where
it is becoming increasingly easier to produce, obtain, share and discover music. This paper will
explore some of the ways in which technology has influenced the music industry, with a focus on
the diminishing need for musical talent.
MIDI was originally invented in order to allow electronic musical devices to communicate with one
another. This development opened up an entirely new era of musical processing. In an interview
with Tom Bateman of BBC radio, creator of MIDI Dave Smith explains
"The computers were fast enough to be able to sequence notes, control the number of keyboards and
drum machines at the same time...it kind of opened up a whole new industry."1
Not only did MIDI open up a new industry for musical processing, but the technology was later
integrated into computer software as a VST plugin in a vitalised form, allowing for the creation of
virtual instruments. The aim of virtual instrument software exists to manufacture the sounds of
physical instruments through recording, in order to produce the same instrument sound

Personal Essay: Music Analysis
When I was eleven years old, my parents bought our family's first household computer – a Compaq
with a fresh installation of Windows '95, four megabytes of RAM, a five–hundred–megabyte hard
drive, and a blazing fast 28k modem. A very crude MIDI composition program resided deep within
the start menu options on this machine. The interface was a counterintuitive nightmare with only a
record button, eight instrument tracks, a series of blue boxes to indicate four measures of music
entry, and the keyboard as the piano input. Nonetheless, having only recently established an interest
in music, I spent a substantial amount of time each day learning how to enter music into this
software.
My father was a career musician, so naturally, I outwardly rejected music from an early age.
Throughout my young life, he had a habit of sitting at the piano and playing a small excerpt of a
classical etude and leaving the room shortly thereafter. I would then come in when I thought he
wasn't listening and recreate by ear what he had just played. These accrued aural skills proved useful
as I began composing my first musical work. My musical preferences at that point in my life
included themes from video games and cartoons, and so my inaugural effort at an original
composition was a video game "final boss" theme. The project took me several ... Show more

power of musical creation. This moment was when I realized I had developed a passion for
composition, and I needed to write music for the rest of my

Live Coding Musical Instrument
The live coding musical instrument
"I dream of instruments obedient to my thought and which with their contribution of a whole new
world of unsuspected sounds, will lend themselves to the exigencies of my inner rhythm" (Edgard
Varèse 1937)
Live coding engages with a new concept of musical instrument, and with it, engages also with new
instrumental practices. Most live coding instruments consist of a laptop, speakers to hear the music
and a projector, to display the code to the audience. These instruments are far from uniform. Some
live coders use synthesisers and even controllers as an extension of the laptop. Other use instead of a
laptop, a Raspberry Pi with a keyboard and monitor attached. Some use audio interfaces, other use
only their mini jack port. Even for someone who uses the same laptop in every performance, each
venue completes the instrument in a different way, with different sound systems and projections.
And even if two live coders use the same programming language, they don't use it in the same way.
The software and its use determine the shape of this instrument that varies for each artist.
The embodiment of the instrument for live coding is very different from the one of the acoustic
musical instruments. Therefore the codes and even the body ... Show more content on

Piracy: A Different Perspective Essay
Avast! Ye scurvy dog! This is the image usually conjured up when one is discussing piracy. At one

without knowing the crimes they commit. For these crimes are not public, instead they are
committed online. Filesharing is on the rise, much to the parent media corporation's chagrin.

much influence does the government have on the media, or how much control does the media have

my final music project, I chose to do the creative option and decided to compose my own music

In this chapter, Katz talked about the origins of digital sampling. I found it interesting to find out
how with digital sampling, sounds can be altered by layering, adding, cutting and looping. There
was one main example about digital sampling in this chapter that intrigued me. It was a case study
named, 'The Uncommon Parlance of Paul Lansky'. Lansky created a music piece named
'Notjustmoreidlechatter' where he took small fragments of his wife's voice when she was reading a

reading that enthralled me was from a book called 'Power Tools for Garage Band'. After reading

I further read about how this music software worked and learned about the basic techniques that

A Short Story : A Little Lost Girl
This is a story about a little lost girl who wanted to find herself. One bright and sunny afternoon in
2008, the little girl's mom told her three children, "We are going to Philadelphia for vacation at your
grandma's house." The so–called vacation was an excuse to cover the horrible divorce of her
parents. When the little girl got to Philadelphia, her mother told her, "You are the mother when I am
not home. You have to take care of your siblings, cook and clean. Thank you and sorry." The little
girl did not like the role of the mother: she thought it was unfair. She would always think to herself,
"Why always me and not my brother or sister? Why do I need to do all that work?" Then one night,
she saw her mother crying alone in a room, and she decided she would sacrifice her playtime to take
care of her siblings and be the mother of the house. Several years passed, and the little girl was a lost

not regret, then everything is fine. As long as you have tried, then I will not be mad." The little girl
had to wake up at 5:30 every morning to go to school. Many times she wanted to give up because
she felt really exhausted and sick: sick of doing so much work, sick of waking up, sick of taking
care of her siblings, sick of social life, sick of taking classes––sick of everything. But the little girl

Vivaldi Instrumedeley Analysis
The two concerts I have chosen are different in many ways, but the music itself has a lot in common.
For the first concert I chose the progressive rock group Dream Theater. I chose the piece
"Instrumedley" from their Live at Budokan video released in 2004. This video depicts the band
setup on stage in the typical rock concert format. The lighting is bright and multicolored. Unlike
most rock concerts, the musicians do not animate themselves to excite the crowd. They rely on the
mastery of their instruments to provide the excitement.
The second concert is a performance of Vivaldi's Concerto Grosso in D minor. It is performed by the
Franz Listz Chamber Orchestra. The setting is that of a small gothic church in Hungary. There is no

Johann Sebastian Bach´s Early Baroque Music
1. Brandenburg Concerto No. 4 in G, BWV 1049, III
By Johann Sebastian Bach https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6JQm5aSjX6g This music by Bach
portrays all the characteristic of early Baroque Music which includes melody, texture, and timber. It
is one of the Bach's sets that forms a master anthology that demonstrates all possible possibilities
inherent in a specific musical form. It is scored for violin, continuo, two flutes, and strings. The
flutes was called "fiauti d'echo", which represented the softer part of the song that echoes. However,
this may not be the case since the flutes appear at the beginning even without the solo violin. Flutes
double the solo but occasionally used in echo function.

desire for the different types of music and dance styles that are related no their cultures and the

"Most of the impact of culture is subconscious: We don 't really know why we want to become a
teacher, why we enjoy certain kinds of music, and where the characteristics come from that we use
when we choose a mate. Culture largely influences all of these traits
(Hall, 1976a, 1977). We also know that these cultural contexts are continually changing and that
each individual processes membership in various cultural groups differently (Wardle, F., 2013)."
Music has been placed in the curriculum of many schools but dance has not and I want to change
that beginning with my students. Creativity is needed and in dance and music there is always
creativity involved. By having my students perform music and dance from different cultures it will
allow them to work together and be creative. The students will need access to videos, different
instruments that are played by different cultures. We will be providing learning through the art of
music and dance. This also allows the students to express themselves in an emotional and physical
way.
As my students get more comfortable with performing we would like to take them to different
schools to perform. Also making this not just a classroom project but move it to be an activity for
the children for after school and eventually to where other students from other schools can join and
they can put on a performance all together. By bringing in teachers from different schools it helps to

Music Personal Statement
A huge part of my life is performing music and comes from my creative personality. I am applying
for a music degree as my career plan long term is to work in music. My interest in music began
when I started playing cornet in my local Youth Brass Band at age 7 and have worked myself up
from 3rd cornet to principle cornet player, where I lead my section developing my teamwork and
leadership skills. I found this really enjoyable and took up my secondary instrument, piano, 3 years
later. I would be suitable for this course as I am extremely motivated and reliable.
I've been involved in a wide range of musical performances since starting playing cornet and piano,
including a couple concert bands, West Wiltshire Concert Band and Somerset County Youth Concert
band. I auditioned for Somerset County Youth Concert Band, and have been going on tours with
them to destinations such as Germany and Italy. I was invited to join the Mid Somerset Orchestra,
and have performed famous symphonies, which has developed my transposition skills tremendously.
Since joining both Mid Somerset Orchestra and Frome Symphony Orchestra I moved to the trumpet
as it was more suited to orchestral music. I have enjoyed playing piano as music as trumpet and
decided to enter the Girl Guide's talent competition, which I played "Can you feel the love tonight"

Manipulation Of Music
Throughout semester two of Music on the Digital stage, the year 9/10 music class studied a range of
digital composition including chance music, musique concrete and digital arrangements on a variety
of software. This essay will analyse the compositions effectiveness to portray a specific atmosphere
or emotion through the manipulation of musical elements such as pitch, duration, instrumentation
and expressive elements.
The first composition was a musique concrete arrangement created through Audacity. Musique

Adjusting frequencies and utilising Audacity's effects enabled the creation of the stepwise and
repetitive melody throughout the piece. For example, in the rubber band audio track, small audio
section frequencies were modified and then layers of distortion, reverb and bass were applied to
create a synthesised, interesting melody. Another example is the pen audio track where sliding pitch
shift, treble, distortion and reverb were all utilised to create an intense, energetic melody. Common
effects include distortion, reverse, sliding pitch shift and treble and bass. The melody characteristics
compliment both the upbeat tempo, shorter note values and polynomial rhythm lines to allow
simplicity and complexity in the energetic frenzy. A large range and minor tonality are also
presented in this piece and are effective in contributing to the frenzied atmosphere. The
manipulation of pitch expressive elements was significantly important in this composition to
transform the original, mundane sounds into an interesting, synthesised melody for the electronic
dance music genre.
REAPER is a digital audio production application that was utilised for the creation of the second
composition, a task that involved an arrangement of the playschool theme stems. This composition
focuses on the manipulation of instrumentation, pitch and duration to portray a playful, brassy, big–
band piece.

Nashville Symphony: Concert Report
Concert 1
For the first concert, I went to the composer workshop with the nashville symphony. This was my
first time going to an actual performance with a full symphonic orchestra.
While waiting for the performance, the first thing I noticed were the types of instruments. They had
the four music families of strings, Brass, woodwinds, and percussion instruments. There were a lot
of violins and behind them were violas and contrabass.
For wood winds I saw many flutes, clarinets and a oboe. The brass instruments were trumpets,
trombones, and baritones. The percussion instruments bass drum, xylophone, bells, timpani
woodblocks ,high hat cymbals and a keyboard.
The first composer was Liliya Ugay. Before the performance ugay talked about the number of
expressions she wanted to bring out before the piece was played. From the start the main thing I
noticed was the dynamic contrast. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main thing that caught my ear were the many crescendos and decrescendos which made the
song sound really soft and really loud and strong at different parts. There was a part in the song that
really reminded me of when I was still in concert band. We would often play marches and the tempo
was that of a march.
Emily cooley was the next composer. She described why her piece was called argow. Which she
chose the name argow because it meant transform or change. She wanted to bring out change and
transformation throughout the song. One of the key things that was different from the other
performance was the fact that the low strings had the melody.
The final performance was by Shen Yiwen. This was my favorite performance of the night, He
described how there were going to be different movements throughout the song. The first
movements was very slow, with lots of trills.
The next movement was very upbeat and I loved the melody that he wrote for the violins.
The final movement was influenced by when he used to play piano with his deceased

Ethical Computing: Copying Music or Software from Another...
Ethical Computing: Determining the Ethicacy of Copying Music or Software From Another Person
or over the Internet
Introduction
The pervasive nature of the Internet has made the copying of music and software exceptionally easy,
fast and for the most part, undetectable. The ubiquity of the Internet and the speed at which music
and software can be copied is also changing the sociological and legal aspects of computing as well
(De George, 2006). For the first time the availability of technology is driving a level of expertise
with computer users globally that give them the opportunity to capture, distribute, duplicate and
even re–publish massive amounts of intellectual property that isn't theirs (Wilson, 2007). This is
forcing the issue of copyright infringement and the protection of intellectual property at a global
scale. In so doing, this dynamics is also re–ordering ethics surrounding all forms of digital content
as well.
Opening Statements
The combined effects of the freemium business models that offer free services underwritten by
advertising are now dominating the Web, shifting the expectations of computer users globally as a
result. In conjunction with this shift in expectations on a global level, entitlement to intellectual
property is now rampant, even if a computer user did not pay for it (Hollander, 2010). All of these
factors are further accelerating the question of ethics globally, and within each country the question
of intellectual rights and how to

The Impact Of Technology On The Music Industry
Countless people are always saying that today's music is trash. It's repetitive and oversimplified, and
all because of this new music technology constantly being developed. A listener rarely hears a piece
of music that has not been touched by technology, but this isn't necessarily a bad thing. These people
fail to realize that the theory of music technology has been around since the 1700's when Mozart
invented a game using a die to compose music by chance (Baggi). It is also important to realize the
true of meaning of technology to society, and while there may be drawbacks, there are benefits that
far outweigh them. The role of technology in music is largely beneficial to society due to the fact
that it increases accessibility to both artists and listeners and allows for musical innovation.
With constantly developing music technology, the music industry is more accessible to artists and
listeners than ever before. Before recording and production technology was easily accessible to the
average person, making a record was a major process. It could cost upwards of $15,000 to get into a
studio and record music, and even more to produce and sell it (Broussard). Today, with GarageBand,
Audacity, and Studio One amongst a lot of other software, anyone can be a composer. It doesn't cost
thousands of dollars; in fact, it doesn't have to cost anything to produce music. This benefits the
artist in terms of both cost and experience. Artists who know what they're doing with technology

The Copyright Law Of Canada Connected With An Ethical Line...
This paper discusses the copyright law in Canada connected with an ethical line in music sharing.
Before embarking on the discussion, it is imperative to understand what copyright entails under the
umbrella of intellectual property; the latter refers to intangible property, which is entirely a creation
of the mind (Alexander & Penalver, 2012, p. 188). Copyright is the exclusive right granted to the
original author of literary work. In this effect, it prevents other people from using an authorship
without authorization by the original author. The latter grants license for the reproduction of copies
of the work, its usage, as well as distribution in lieu of some fee, i.e. royalty. Merges (2011) explains
that literary work encompasses a wide ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

music industry has been in dispute for many years in respect to music piracy. It went after software

may be why governing the expansion of the music industry towards later benefits for the industry;
however, not toward those who pirate from them (Easley, 2005, p.163). There is clear evidence of a
willingness to pay for online music in general through legal download services such as iTunes
(Easley, 2005, p.163). It is clear that some new markets are emerging; for example, services such as
4G LTE combine music with other services. These markets may provide both better margins and
better copyright protection to the music industry. Nevertheless, some forms of music piracy may
ultimately come to be seen as an effective marketing channel for those services (Easley, 2005,
p.163). Clearly the industry is adapting piracy issues. Based on the information mentioned above,
the objective of this paper is to emphasize the ethical dimensions of sharing music in the Canadian
context. There are different ways of such sharing like burning, lending, downloading, and uploading
among others. The argument is that burning and downloading are unethical while

my high school, I made a software that helps us reciting English vocabularies by a technique similar
to flashcards. The advantage in efficiency makes it better than the latter. The software, for example,
supports data importing while flashcards do not. In addition to the improvement of manual
efficiency, the software expressed a strong enhancement of the users ' speed of reciting words, aka.,
the effectiveness. It was based on the forgetting curve proposed by Hermann Ebbinghaus, which

the values, and set them as the time intervals between the repetitive appearances of a word. In this
sense, the word repeats again and again, and deepens the memorization every time. The
memorization becomes very deep using this strategy. I made a comparison between the efficiency of

Essay On Music Director

  • 1. Essay On Music Director Once I graduate college, I plan to be a music director and teacher. Specifically, a high school band teacher. Music is everything to me and I want to be able to teach the next generation why music is so special, and to have them appreciate any musical talents that each kid possesses. I am going to talk about what a music director job entitles, education needed to be one, their salary, additional education, job availability, any technology skills and tools used in the job, and what the future beholds for my job opportunities. The job of a music director is an understated position in the field of education. They are a teacher of a classroom with instruments and sheet music instead of textbooks. • 3. Serato Scratch Live VS Traktor Scratch Essay Serato Scratch Live VS Traktor Scratch Does turntable mixing define a DJ or can a computer DJ rock the house just as hard? Nowadays, there are several types of equipment that a DJ (Disc Jockey) can use to rock a party. Unlike twenty years ago with turntables and vinyl records, today there are CD players, MIDI controllers, software programs, and turntables connected to programs like Serato Scratch Live and Traktor Scratch that can be used for performances. A lot of DJs have different opinions about this matter. Some feel that sticking with turntables is the way to go because real DJs use wax (vinyl), and some feel that keeping up with technology is evolution (some call it a revolution). The majority of ... These tricks have been used by many DJs as a unique signature to a performance that set them apart from the norm. While both programs allow for scratching and turntable tricks without any delay in song play, Traktor excels with its effects. It has the best effects in sound options and potential of the effects on the market. For example, the Traktor program allows the DJ to excel in his/her performance by adding over twenty different effects options to the program. This comes from Traktor's years of

Serato does have a series of effects and sounds that are available, but its quality is less than to be desired. For instance, the amount of effects available is twelve and there is a lack of quality that these effects have that can sometimes make the track sound distorted. There is talk about increasing the sound options by allowing for secondary programmers to add open source plug–ins to Serato, but there is no scheduled date of when that will happen. • 6. Searc Digital Essay Examples It is my first time to write a digital essay, I really enjoy using pictures to give audiences more precise scenarios about my story. It can give audiences more information about my experiences than the simple written composition. Pictures will expand audience's imagination and make the story more active. Moreover, the background music also plays an important role, which leads and strengthens audience's emotion. I really involved in people's music when I was watching other videos. Even if I did not experience the similar events, but the music drew my echo when I was seeing their struggles, difficulties and joys. This amazing reactive pushed me to spend a lot of time deciding the background music. I want to choose a complete song to accompany with my experience. However, it is really hard to find a matched song, which not only needs to suit my story but also needs to suit my speech length. According to those requirements, I had tried many songs before I decided the final one. At the same time, I needed to edit my speech length in order to catch the music. On the other side, corresponding photos are also a serious problem. I did not left any relevantly photos about my story because the experience had happened seven years ago. I am not a person who prefers to take photos all the time. Despite that the experience is important for me, I did not realize its importance after many years when it had happened. • 8. Comparison and Contrast of Cd Player and Ipod Compare and Contrast of Musical Technology Technology has had an enormous impact on society throughout history. It has mainly influenced culture, politics, and social issues. One technology that pertains to all these issues is musical technology. Music has been around for ages, but began to evolve during the late 1960's when many different types of music started forming. The reason music became so popular all of a sudden was because people were starting to realize that no matter what their "taste" is, there is at least one genre of music that will appeal to them. Two main modern ways that individuals are able to listen to music is through the CD player and the iPod. The CD has been around for many years, starting as a record, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... CD players have many versions and they come in many different price ranges depending on the manufacturer. An individual can buy a decent CD player for one hundred dollars or less but the nicer CD players range from two to six hundred dollars. Usually the more expensive CD players are the ones that are able to hold multi–disk (ABT, 1997). However, people do not realize that after purchasing the CD player, they will end up buying unnecessary items to enhance or make their CD player unique and original. Some essentials could include remotes, system, CD cases, etc. For an iPod, a person is going to spend more on the device itself. The average price range is from forty– nine to three hundred and ninety–nine dollars. An iPod is a device that stores songs in the form of MP3 and are stored in different files (Wikipedia, 2008). Usually when most people buy an iPod they already have many CD's and different music. The great thing about the iPod is that it holds all the music that you have. Keep in consideration when buying an iPod how much music you do have because you will want to buy the iPod with the number of gigabits that fits you best. Also, you can download iTunes free–of–charge and buy songs off of there. A great advantage of iTunes is that instead of having to buy the whole album, an individual can just purchase the one ... The Japanese Music Software Company Crypton Problem statement This case study was in reflection of the Japanese music–software company Crypton and their most successful product Hatsune Miku – a "pre–packaged Vocaloid software" that eventually transformed to an internationally recognized Japanese virtual idol thanks to the impressive power of co–creation. Amateur and professional music producers were able to buy this software and use the pre–packaged synthetic vocals to make songs of their own, which were sung by the virtual character Hatsune Miku. Through the years and massive sales, hundreds of thousands of fans began creating not only songs, but artwork and animation involving this character and sharing it online through Facebook, YouTube, and Crypton created site Piapro. This is the problem that this case analysis will be addressing: how to create synergy between Hatsune Miku and the company's core purpose of developing and selling music software. Issues Consumer and demand analysis From the product's launch, it sold at an unpredictable level capturing 30% of Japan's music related software market within only three weeks. Today, its sales have accumulated over approximately $100 million USD with Miku having "over 110,000 released songs, 170,000 uploaded YouTube videos, 1,000,000 created artworks and nearly two million Facebook 'likes'" (1). Around the globe, countries ask for concerts, consumers shop for merchandise, and businesses plead for sponsorships with the virtual superstar. Demand is not dwindling, it 's growing with each passing day. Competitor analysis There are other music–software companies out there, globally and in Japan. Some in fact have even tried launching products of their own copying the same strategies as Hatsune Miku, but with very minimal success. Crypton continues to dominate the marketplace for this line of products through Miku, but the competition in the other areas of their business does remain competitive. Competitors include: Ableton, Fruity Loops, Apple, Avid, Steinberg, Sony and many more. • 14. Downloading Music Should Be Made Legal Essay example Downloading All Music Should Be Made Legal In 1999, an 18–year–old college dropout named Shawn Fanning revolutionized the music industry with the program he invented called Napster. Napster was an internet program that made it possible for users to share music files for free. His product gained instant interest across America which brought an opposite response from the Music industry. In 2001, as expected, Napster was sued for copyright infringement by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and shut down at the peak of its success. The media industry wanted the technology halted because it was terrified of how it would affect the economy. Nonetheless, new programs are rising to take Napster's place and history is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Looking at the main headlines for downloading that originate from the RIAA, it can be noticed that the word "illegal" is replaced by "unauthorized". This is because the courts state that the word "illegal" is considered to be a false statement when making reference to downloading music. When the topic is brought to discussion, two typical responses are shouted from the opposing sides. Supporters of downloading and lobbyists alike both have very opinionated views on the situation. Some people are arguing that stealing is stealing and wrong no matter what. But is the downloading of music considered stealing per se? Providing a copyrighted source of material without charge may sound ludicrous, but when comparing the downloading of music to radio broadcasting, very few changes are present. Radio broadcasting is allowing listeners to sample copyrighted material free of charge and is known as a great are kept up to date with the latest media releases. So if "free" listening is the problem here, then the radio is much more a factor to be feared. Music downloading functions in the same motion, but with more benefits to the artist. Without the free listening opportunity presented by downloading, many new bands would never have the chance to extend their music on a large scale, from a lack of funds. As quoted from a survey of Vintage Cask, "85% of profit does not come from the selling of music CD's believe it or not, but from the selling of merchandise like band shirts and ... • 20. Million Dollar Band Research Paper Alabama's Million–Dollar Marching owes its success to its directors, various sections, and the upbringings of the band. The band's first conductor, Colonel Carleton Butler, began the band as a military band in 1914. He was nicknamed the 'Father of the Million Dollar Band'. His music style included high–paced tempos with quick stepping to elaborate maneuvers. Accuracy and style were the key points to all his performances. He has won many awards such as being given the title of Honorary Colonel in the Great State of Alabama by Governor John Patterson in 1959. Butler's most outstanding achievement was being elected the first president of the newly founded Alabama Bandmasters Association in 1939. In 1968, he was awarded the Certificate ... The Trifecta consisted of music Ferguson thought was worth playing, music students liked, and music he liked. He left the band in 1984 to pursue a career in the computer software business. The band had around 225 musicians and 35 to 40 color guard members and majorettes, which gave the band its nickname 'Fat Albert.' James Ferguson left the band with the words, "I was interested in music being played well by young people...I wanted people at the game to enjoy watching the band and be proud of it..." Today, the band consists of 400 members, divided into sections by instrument sound. The most important part of the band are the drum majors. The drum majors' jobs include leading rehearsals five day a week, organizing Saturday's pep rallied, and bonding with their fellow band members. They also must be in control of the football game. • 22. Musical Sound Processing And Techniques Of Digital Music... Musical sound processing and techniques of digital musical analysis comes developed along with speech processing and it might appear as a subset of speech processing. The difference of musical signals from speech signals are their qualities like harmony and timbre, melody and rhythm etc. Such qualities allow music to transcend the verbal speech and gives it the ability to influence the human brain and thereby health. The paper looks into methods of analyzing the above mentioned qualities of musical signal using fourth–generation programming language Matlab. Compact commands and simpler syntaxes make the processing easier and it provides us with all the information needed for further processing the music. More complex features such as the structure and form, statistical information and emotional characteristic of notes are also discussed. The paper presents how two different notes could be distinctly represented in terms of mathematical information obtained from processing of their wave forms. The Matlab toolbox– MIRtoolbox has been made use throughout the paper in order to simulate and present various ideas related to the characteristics of music. This toolbox has been designed specifically for digitally analyzing music and for extracting useful information from it. Only the software aspects are discussed in the paper MUSIC is a language used almost everywhere in the world as a means of conveying emotions as well as a means of entertainment. How Technology Has Influenced The Music Industry "We shape our tools thereafter our tools shape us" Technology has had a profound effect on our civilisation and culture, and this has been reflected in the changing state of the music industry. This includes the development of virtual instruments, the accessibility to digital audio workstation technology, file sharing, online music streaming, the growth and development of social media platforms, and digital instruments. We live in an age where it is becoming increasingly easier to produce, obtain, share and discover music. This paper will explore some of the ways in which technology has influenced the music industry, with a focus on the diminishing need for musical talent. MIDI was originally invented in order to allow electronic musical devices to communicate with one another. This development opened up an entirely new era of musical processing. In an interview with Tom Bateman of BBC radio, creator of MIDI Dave Smith explains "The computers were fast enough to be able to sequence notes, control the number of keyboards and drum machines at the same time...it kind of opened up a whole new industry."1 Not only did MIDI open up a new industry for musical processing, but the technology was later integrated into computer software as a VST plugin in a vitalised form, allowing for the creation of virtual instruments. The aim of virtual instrument software exists to manufacture the sounds of physical instruments through recording, in order to produce the same instrument sound ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Personal Essay: Music Analysis When I was eleven years old, my parents bought our family's first household computer – a Compaq with a fresh installation of Windows '95, four megabytes of RAM, a five–hundred–megabyte hard drive, and a blazing fast 28k modem. A very crude MIDI composition program resided deep within the start menu options on this machine. The interface was a counterintuitive nightmare with only a record button, eight instrument tracks, a series of blue boxes to indicate four measures of music entry, and the keyboard as the piano input. Nonetheless, having only recently established an interest in music, I spent a substantial amount of time each day learning how to enter music into this software. My father was a career musician, so naturally, I outwardly rejected music from an early age. Throughout my young life, he had a habit of sitting at the piano and playing a small excerpt of a classical etude and leaving the room shortly thereafter. I would then come in when I thought he wasn't listening and recreate by ear what he had just played. These accrued aural skills proved useful as I began composing my first musical work. My musical preferences at that point in my life included themes from video games and cartoons, and so my inaugural effort at an original composition was a video game "final boss" theme. Live Coding Musical Instrument The live coding musical instrument "I dream of instruments obedient to my thought and which with their contribution of a whole new world of unsuspected sounds, will lend themselves to the exigencies of my inner rhythm" (Edgard Varèse 1937) Live coding engages with a new concept of musical instrument, and with it, engages also with new instrumental practices. Most live coding instruments consist of a laptop, speakers to hear the music and a projector, to display the code to the audience. These instruments are far from uniform. Some live coders use synthesisers and even controllers as an extension of the laptop. Other use instead of a laptop, a Raspberry Pi with a keyboard and monitor attached. Some use audio interfaces, other use only their mini jack port. Even for someone who uses the same laptop in every performance, each venue completes the instrument in a different way, with different sound systems and projections. And even if two live coders use the same programming language, they don't use it in the same way. The software and its use determine the shape of this instrument that varies for each artist. At one point in time, this was correct – sailors roamed the seas freely pillaging merchant vessels. Now a days, Piracy has mainly slipped underground. Chances are, you may know a pirate personally without knowing the crimes they commit. For these crimes are not public, instead they are committed online. Filesharing is on the rise, much to the parent media corporation's chagrin. Piracy is popular because of its ease of use, and widespread availability. Technology has allowed music to be expressed in so many unique ways and has also inspired people, like myself, to learn more about the evolution of music throughout the years. Therefore, for my final music project, I chose to do the creative option and decided to compose my own music through a music software called, Garage Band. Lansky created a music piece named 'Notjustmoreidlechatter' where he took small fragments of his wife's voice when she was reading a novel and then digitally transformed her voice by mixing up her chattering noises, to the point where no word was long enough to be understood. After reading and hearing his digitally sampled piece, I started thinking about the unique ways in which music could be expressed and how it could bring out a creative side in a person, which could then further engage the audience. The second reading that enthralled me was from a book called 'Power Tools for Garage Band'. One bright and sunny afternoon in 2008, the little girl's mom told her three children, "We are going to Philadelphia for vacation at your grandma's house." The so–called vacation was an excuse to cover the horrible divorce of her parents. When the little girl got to Philadelphia, her mother told her, "You are the mother when I am not home. You have to take care of your siblings, cook and clean. Thank you and sorry." The little girl did not like the role of the mother: she thought it was unfair. She would always think to herself, "Why always me and not my brother or sister? Why do I need to do all that work?" Then one night, she saw her mother crying alone in a room, and she decided she would sacrifice her playtime to take care of her siblings and be the mother of the house. Several years passed, and the little girl was a lost highschooler. Her mother said, "I do not care about the results. As long as you are happy and you do not regret, then everything is fine. As long as you have tried, then I will not be mad." The little girl had to wake up at 5:30 every morning to go to school. Many times she wanted to give up because she felt really exhausted and sick: sick of doing so much work, sick of waking up, sick of taking care of her siblings, sick of social life, sick of taking classes––sick of everything. For the first concert I chose the progressive rock group Dream Theater. I chose the piece "Instrumedley" from their Live at Budokan video released in 2004. This video depicts the band setup on stage in the typical rock concert format. The lighting is bright and multicolored. Unlike most rock concerts, the musicians do not animate themselves to excite the crowd. They rely on the mastery of their instruments to provide the excitement. The second concert is a performance of Vivaldi's Concerto Grosso in D minor. It is performed by the Franz Listz Chamber Orchestra. The setting is that of a small gothic church in Hungary. Ethical Computing: Determining the Ethicacy of Copying Music or Software From Another Person or over the Internet Introduction The pervasive nature of the Internet has made the copying of music and software exceptionally easy, fast and for the most part, undetectable. The ubiquity of the Internet and the speed at which music and software can be copied is also changing the sociological and legal aspects of computing as well (De George, 2006). For the first time the availability of technology is driving a level of expertise with computer users globally that give them the opportunity to capture, distribute, duplicate and even re–publish massive amounts of intellectual property that isn't theirs (Wilson, 2007). This is forcing the issue of copyright infringement and the protection of intellectual property at a global scale. In so doing, this dynamics is also re–ordering ethics surrounding all forms of digital content as well. Opening Statements The combined effects of the freemium business models that offer free services underwritten by advertising are now dominating the Web, shifting the expectations of computer users globally as a result. In conjunction with this shift in expectations on a global level, entitlement to intellectual property is now rampant, even if a computer user did not pay for it (Hollander, 2010). All of these factors are further accelerating the question of ethics globally, and within each country the question of intellectual rights and how to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The impact of this practice will lead to more wholly–educated, musically literate, and confident students. This intent versus impact paradigm is paramount across all facets of the field of fine arts but perhaps no more important than in the area of musical interpretation. Both composer and conductor have very different, yet equally important, roles in this process. A composer is tasked to write a piece that elicits an emotional response and has an intended impact to performer and audience. The conductor performing the work is tasked with the responsibility of adequately preparing and studying the piece to express the emotional response the composer intended ... • 64. The Impact Of Technology On The Music Industry Countless people are always saying that today's music is trash. It's repetitive and oversimplified, and all because of this new music technology constantly being developed. A listener rarely hears a piece of music that has not been touched by technology, but this isn't necessarily a bad thing. These people fail to realize that the theory of music technology has been around since the 1700's when Mozart invented a game using a die to compose music by chance (Baggi). It is also important to realize the true of meaning of technology to society, and while there may be drawbacks, there are benefits that far outweigh them. The role of technology in music is largely beneficial to society due to the fact that it increases accessibility to both artists and listeners and allows for musical innovation. With constantly developing music technology, the music industry is more accessible to artists and listeners than ever before. Before recording and production technology was easily accessible to the average person, making a record was a major process. It could cost upwards of $15,000 to get into a studio and record music, and even more to produce and sell it (Broussard). Today, with GarageBand, Audacity, and Studio One amongst a lot of other software, anyone can be a composer. It doesn't cost thousands of dollars; in fact, it doesn't have to cost anything to produce music. This benefits the artist in terms of both cost and experience. • 66. Essay On Stereo Imaging I My Question Have you ever wondered why Eddie Van Halen's guitar sounds like it is on the left of you? Well it is all thanks to the technique called stereo imaging, which can make a sound appear to come from anywhere in the stereo field. Stereo imaging has always fascinated me, which lead me to interested in how it works. Stereo imaging makes you feel like the song is being performed all around, with the listener able to pinpoint any sound coming from the audio. But how is this done and achieved? I knew a little about audio recording, and a little about stereo imaging, such as using two microphones to record an acoustic guitar sounds better than one, but I wanted to know more about the different techniques of stereo imaging. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, while researching my topic, I wanted to test out some of the stereo imaging techniques for myself, so that I knew exactly what they do, and how they work leaving me able to better explain them. This also made me realize that I am a visual learner and a hands–on–learner; I have to experience things for myself for me to truly understand how they work. If it is possible for me to learn with hands–on–methods, that would be the best way for me to learn efficiently. I hope that when my Isearch paper is read, that the reader learns something about the way things they hear on the radio or on tv are created. There is a process to make it sound a certain way, and that is a real art. If I ever have to write another Isearch paper or if I had to complete the process again, I would be sure to use the Iconn database, understand what I am learning about myself while researching, and keep in mind improvements that I can make while I am writing. Overall I felt my research was accurate and mostly accurate, but in the future there are always things I can improve such as finding very credible sources, narrowing the focus of my research, and continuing to experiment and hands– on test my research ... • 68. The Copyright Law Of Canada Connected With An Ethical Line... This paper discusses the copyright law in Canada connected with an ethical line in music sharing. Before embarking on the discussion, it is imperative to understand what copyright entails under the umbrella of intellectual property; the latter refers to intangible property, which is entirely a creation of the mind (Alexander & Penalver, 2012, p. 188). Copyright is the exclusive right granted to the original author of literary work. In this effect, it prevents other people from using an authorship without authorization by the original author. The latter grants license for the reproduction of copies of the work, its usage, as well as distribution in lieu of some fee, i.e. royalty. As a result, this may be why governing the expansion of the music industry towards later benefits for the industry; however, not toward those who pirate from them (Easley, 2005, p.163). There is clear evidence of a willingness to pay for online music in general through legal download services such as iTunes (Easley, 2005, p.163). It is clear that some new markets are emerging; for example, services such as 4G LTE combine music with other services. These markets may provide both better margins and better copyright protection to the music industry. Nevertheless, some forms of music piracy may ultimately come to be seen as an effective marketing channel for those services (Easley, 2005, p.163). Clearly the industry is adapting piracy issues. Based on the information mentioned above, the objective of this paper is to emphasize the ethical dimensions of sharing music in the Canadian context. There are different ways of such sharing like burning, lending, downloading, and uploading among others. The argument is that burning and downloading are unethical while ... Every time I solve a problem that was challenging to me, I feel very happy for the self–achievement. Even if it occurs at a deep night, I will get refreshed by the ecstasy. I was only four when I first tasted the sweetness of math. For instance, I celebrated my ten–year–old birthday party by successfully constructing a program that could either produce or solve sudoku puzzles. On that day, the program gave me a puzzle, and solved the puzzle itself. I considered this gift as more memorable than any other one. In my high school, I made a software that helps us reciting English vocabularies by a technique similar to flashcards. The advantage in efficiency makes it better than the latter. The software, for example, supports data importing while flashcards do not. In addition to the improvement of manual efficiency, the software expressed a strong enhancement of the users ' speed of reciting words, aka., the effectiveness. It was based on the forgetting curve proposed by Hermann Ebbinghaus, which quantifies the interval between each repetition of memorizing process. I made a little adjustment to the values, and set them as the time intervals between the repetitive appearances of a word. In this sense, the word repeats again and again, and deepens the memorization every time. The memorization becomes very deep using this strategy. I made a comparison between the efficiency of reciting vocabularies using the traditional methodology and using this program. The result was that both in one hour, the traditional way could only make me fully recall approximately 120 words, whereas the program ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 74. Reflection Of Samuel Burt And Mixed Signals In Computer Music On October 30th, we had our sixth presentation of this course. We are getting close to the end of the course with two lectures left. The lecturer, this time, was Goucher's computer music professor Samuel Burt, with Lisa Weiss helping him. According to his bio, among his title as a professor, Samuel Burt is a composer. He had a Bachelors of Music from the University of Georgia. Then, he received a Master of Music from Peabody Institute for composition and computer music. He is a member of the High Zero Foundation and has participated in the High Zero Festival. This foundation is a way of showcasing experimental and improvised music in Baltimore. He participated and performed in the Red Room series and the Worlds in Collusion at Artscape. To add to his repertoire, he builds and sells daxophones, which are wooden friction–based instruments. He also creates/designs his own electronic music software that we had the chance to experience for ourselves in his lecture. Before the lecture, Burt had been tinkering away at the computer to make sure that everything was perfected beforehand. He then had us introduce ourselves and we all chatted for a bit. Soon, it was time for the main event. First, Burt showed us his composition, Mixed Signals. With the help of Lisa Weiss playing her part on the piano, the computer would take that note, play it back, and delay it. It is time and sound sensitive, so we were instructed to be as quiet as possible, in order for the computer to not pick up ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
