1. Don’t Kill us with your PowerPoint! Strategies for Improving SGP Presentations ADAPTED FROM PRESENTATIONS BY David Jakes & Ken Rodoff
2. It seemed that every time a student stood up to present he would read everything that was being projected. He added nothing more than what was on the slide. At times, he would pause, awkwardly so, as he waited for the next slide to appear. It made me feel uncomfortable. And the audience felt the same way. The clock would never move fast enough. We were trapped, and the presenter just kept reading. --Ken Rodoff

Learning theory and brain research- learned at jake’s workshopPresentations should be based in an understanding of learning theory…GIVE KIDS SOMEsimple ideas about the brain. The brain is about 3.5 pounds and is composed of around 12 billion cells. The optic nerve is = about 1 million nerve fibers; the auditory nerve = about 30,000. There is a tremendous amount of bandwidth associated with the eye, suggesting that presentations should contain a visual component.

Plan. Plan. Plan.Don't send a presentation to do a research report's job. Do the research paper, and do it deeply. Use it to prepare a storyboard, and convince me of your position...visually, and with emotion.Slide from David Jakes
