2. TOPIC: WILD LIFE (PROTECTION) ACT.
SUBJECT: AQUATIC
MAMMALS,REPTILES,AND AMFHIBIANS
3. INTRODUCTION
The act provides for the protection of wild animals, birds
and plants and for matters connected there with to ensure the
ecological and environment security of the country.
The act does not extend to state of Jammu and Kashmir
The act provides for the appointment of director, life warden
and other officers.
The act provides for constitution of state board for wild life.
The act provides for the declaration of certain area on
protected areas (sanctuaries and national parks)
4. The central zoo authority and the national tiger
conservation authority have been constituted under
this act.
Tiger and other endangered species crime control
bureau has have been constituted under this act
The act has six schedules whish consist of various
species of plants and animals.
5. SCHEDULE-1
This consists of the most endangered species of mammals
insect, birds, crustaceans, molluscs, echinoderms etc.
Hunting, trading etc. of these species invites the highest
penalties and are punishable with imprisonment for a term
which shall not be less than three years but may extends to
seven years and also with fine which shall not be less than
ten thousand rupees.

7. SCHEDULE -2
This schedule has two part animals listed in part 2 of this
schedule enjoy the same protection as those in schedule 1
and penalties for hunting and trade are also the same.
Part 2 of schedule 2 consist of insect species and include
many butterflies.

Animals listed in schedule 3 and schedule 4 are also
protected but the penalties are lower as compared to
schedule 1 and part 2 of schedule 2

1.Vultures

9. Schedule 5
This schedule consist of vermin which can be hunted.
Vermin are wild animals which are believed to be
harmful to crops, farm animals, or game, or which
carry disease.
There are only 4 animals in this schedule-
1.Mice
2.Rats
3.Common crow
4.Fruit eating bats
10. SCHEDULE-6
The contains provisions not just to protect animals but also
to protect plants.
Cultivation, collection, uprooting, trade is prohibited for
certain plants.
The schedule 6 of the act consists of such plants.
The plants listed in schedule 6 are-
1.Beddomes cycad (Cycas beddomei)
2.Blue Vanda (Vanda soerulec)
3.Kuth (Saussurea lappa)
4.Ladies slipper orchids (Paphiopedilum spp.)
5.Pitcher plant (Nepenthes khasiana)
6.Red Vanda (Rananthera inschootiana)
