Kiran Bir Sethi participated in Walk for Hunger to raise money to feed people experiencing poverty in Massachusetts. She raised $1650, enough to feed 80 families for a week. Walk for Hunger is an annual 20-mile walk that has been held since 1969 to address hunger and has raised millions for food programs. Over the years, it has grown significantly to include thousands of participants from religious organizations, schools, companies and more who work to end hunger in Massachusetts.

BACKGROUND
Kiran Bir Sethi is the founding director of
the Riverside School in Ahmedabad, India. She
has a design background, having received her
diploma in visual communication from the National
Institute of Design (NID). She is also the Founder
of “aProCh” – which stands for “A Protagonist in
Every Child” - an initiative that is attempting to
make Ahmedabad more child-friendly, for which
she was made an Ashoka Fellow in 2008.

She participated in WALK FOR HUNGER
whose aim is to raise enough money to feed
700000 people.
Instead she raised USD$1650 which is
enough to get food for 80 families which will
last them for a week.
Her son is also participating in the events.
4. What she did in the past.
In May-June 2010, she was a Keynote
Speaker in Beijing, alongside Dr Howard
Gardner. In July this year, she was a Speaker
and Panellist at a Conference titled “Where
Do We Go From Here?: Achieving Global
Peace with Justice in a Sustainable
Environment” at The Martin Luther, Jr.,
Research and Education Institute at Stanford
University.
5. What her aim? Did she achieve her
goal?
Her aim is to raise money for the people experiencing
poverty in Massachusetts
Yes.She went to organise the WALK FOR HUNGER for
that purpose.And it was a success as she was joined
by 40000 parents and children.
6. History of WALK FOR HUNGER
The first Walk was held in 1969 by a group of activists from the Paulist
Center, led by Patrick Hughes. An estimated 2,000 people walked and
raised $26,000 to help fund two hunger projects. At the 2009 Walk for
Hunger, 44,000 people came to the Boston Common to raise millions for
the hungry. The 20-mile pledge Walk attracted over 1,000 religious
organizations, as well as 1,200 corporate teams, 1,200 schools, 2,000
volunteers, and 700 friends and family groups who all came together to
help feed hungry people in Massachusetts.
The 20-mile Walk occurs annually on the first Sunday in May and weaves
through Boston, Brookline, Newton, Watertown and Cambridge, and
includes entertainment and free snacks along the way. The 45th annual
Walk for Hunger will take place on Sunday, May 5, 2013.
