Fairy Tales Compared To The Story Of Cinderella
Fairy tales are important part of every individual because in the past grandparents used to tell us the stories about fairies and witches. Cinderella is
very interesting story. One of the most popular and lovable fairy tales is Cinderella, it is the story of beautiful girl whose stepmother abuses her, and
later in the story she missing sandal; there are many other stories related to this. For example, Rhodopis, Yeh–Hsien, Donkeyskin, The Three Gowns,
Catskin, and The Princess in the Suit of Leather and these tales are similar to the story of Cinderella. Cinderella is a poor girl who got married with
help of the god mother and this story has a great impact on younger generations because children love to hear fairy tales and they start imagining their
own life as the characters in Fairy tales. Cinderella is a fairy tale which shows the dreams come true of a young and beautiful girl named Ella, who is
tortured by her stepmother and stepsisters after her father's death. She faced many circumstances. She does not have any kind of power and magic
skills but because of her honesty and attractive look, her life totally changed. Ella's Godmother gifts her slippers and she attend the Royal ball,

and finally they find her and bring her to palace, then prince Charming marries her. Cinderella is fairy tale that reflects the power of love, honesty, and
patience. There are many other stories those are similar to Cinderella. For example, the story of Yeh–hsien is almost similar to the Cinderella.
Yeh–hsien (the story same as Cinderella) is a girl whose father is passed away and she lives with stepmother and stepsisters. Her stepmother sends
her into the woods to collect firewood and one day she found one fish with gold eyes and red fins and she feeds the fish. The fish comes out the pond
only when she called and fish knows her from her dress and one day her stepmother trapped her and she kill the fish, second day when Yeh–hsien
called the fish she did not see the fish and then there a man appears and he tells the story to her. He advises her to bring the bone of the

A Fairy Story : A Story Of A Fairy Tale
A story about a princess trying to find her prince, but constantly being stopped by an antagonist or an "Evil force" is cliche. When given the
assignment to write a fairytale, I thought why not write a story about a teacher that bit more than what he/she could chew. Although, it's not bad being
an overachiever so that wouldn't be a good message to convey. I had numerous ideas that had cross upon my mind, but one that I had actually dreamt
about became my story. So here is my dream alternated by me, but told in a fairytale form.
Once upon a time, there was a girl who was living a perfect life in a top notched spotless house. She lived in a massive mansion that was four stories
high with an elevator in it. Her name was Madison, a 16–year–old girl who cried over spilled milk. From time to time, she would throw money at
commoners and say it was a good deed. Her maid, the same age as her, had an imperfect life with a flawed house. She slept in a room with four of her
siblings, struggling to find a comfortable place to sleep at. Her name was Misty, a girl who lived in a financially unstable house because she wasn't as
"Lucky" like Madison was.
One day, Madison was going to attend a social gathering so she had to dress to impress. She wanted the dress to be one of a kind, a dress that'll
make people resentful. So she went shopping and found this gorgeous dress, she begged her dad to get her this dazzling gown with 10,000 carats of
gems that were used to decorate it. Of course, the dad would not decline his daughter's wishes and bought the 1 million dollar dress without an ounce
of hesitation. Later on, Madison decided to try on her new dress at home just to see if it was a perfect fit. She asked Misty to go fetch her a glass of
milk and some cookies. Misty ran to the kitchen while stumbling a little bit because she knew that Madison would deduct her check if she wasn't quick
enough.
When Misty arrived at Madison's room, she accidentally tripped over a shoe and spilled the milk all over Madison. The milk had splattered all over her
gown and Madison was in complete shock and began to cry. She threw the table over, ripped her dress, and looked like she was blowing air out of her
ears. Her dad rushed over to her room

What Is A Fairy Story?
Soon, Seth caught sight of Kayla again, she was now at the playgrounds highest point, what appeared to mimic a castle tower equipped with a
pointed roof. An identical tower stood a little more than a dozen or so yards over to the left, and a walking bridge spanned the two. Kayla moved
from the tower on Seth's right to the one on the left, her footfalls tapping on the metallic bridge as she scurried. Once inside the second tower, Seth
saw Kayla peer down at the grounds below as if searching for Natalie. But by now, Natalie was a distance away on the other side of the structure
climbing up a ladder made to imitate a spider's web. At its top it led to a platform where kids could go in several directions, one of which was an
entryway... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She then began walking back towards her mother. "What do you mean someone is pulling your hair?" Natalie's mother asked with an almost
exhausted tone of voice as she saw her child approach with a frown on her puss. "There's no one else here, honey." Natalie's mother then glanced
around and eventually moved her attention over towards Seth as if to suggest, Kids... But, Seth turned away, hoping to make himself out to look as
disinterested as possible. He eventually settled on staring out into the expanding reach of the park's open lawn as if in meditation or at least lost in
thought. "Somebody pulled my hair twice," Natalie griped, her words forceful and determined to prove their worth. "They did it once over by the
swings and then they did it again when I came down off the slide." Natalie's mother looked confused, but not surprised by her daughter's admission of
an imaginary foe. She wanted to believe her child, but logic dictated that her daughter must be mistaken. "You must have just gotten your hair snagged
on part of the playground equipment while you were running around, that's all, honey," she suggested. "No," Natalie huffed in refutation. "I wasn't
even on any of the swings when it happened," she pouted. "Someone's pulling my hair." "Well, I don't know what to tell you, sweetheart. No other
kids are here. Take a look around, you're the only one." Seth clearly heard what

We Are All Familiar With Bible Stories And Fairy Tales
We are all familiar with Bible stories and fairy tales. They typically began as verbal stories, passed down from generation to generation, before they
were put down on paper or made into a film. Stories which use outlandish situations to, ideally, teach the readers how to live as good people. Stories
such as Cinderella, The Three Little Pigs, Snow White, Jonah and the Whale, Noah 's Ark, Hansel and Gretel, and The Adventures of Pinocchio include
situations which could not have possibly happened. These stories may help lull children to sleep but, at the same time, teach morals in a harsh or even
violent manner.
Like fairy tales, the Bible was written to teach stories to impressionable minds. Unlike fairy tales, Bible stories are still read
today, they are not only read by children, but by adults with or without children. Many Christians today will argue that the Bible stories, such as
Jonah and the Whale, Noah 's Ark, Adam and Eve, and such, were not written to take literally. If they are correct in assuming those stories are not
literal encounters, then how would someone venturing through the bible know what to take literally and what to take as the word of God? If the
stories of the Bible were never meant to be accepted as real events, then can they be considered fairy tales? If all stories in the bible are, in fact, the
word of God and meant to be taken literal, then scientists need to re–evaluate almost everything they know about the world and how it works. It is

A Story Of The Narrative : A Fairy Story?
Hazel called out to her friends, "Let's go guys. We have to get to the campsite before dark to set up." "What's the hurry?" Asked Leo,"Are you
scared?" "No!" said Hazel defensively. "I'm just playing with you, said Leo, lighten up." Leo looked at Hazel admiring her beauty. Too bad she'll
never be mine, he thought. Then Willow and Ryan walked out of the house with the rest of the supplies and got into the car. Within a few short
hours they had reached Lakewood campsite. "We made it guys." Said Willow joyfully. "Let's set up there, near that spooky looking cave." Leo
said. "Are you crazy." Voiced Willow with a slight tremble in her voice. "Never mind, just don't say anything when one of us gets taken by a
monster." Hazel, Ryan, and Leo all laughed. Then Willow joined in once she realized what a silly idea it had been to mention monsters. It was
after 7:00 pm. The sky appeared ominous with dark streaks of blue and purple smothered upon it. The four friends sat around a campfire talking and
having a good time. Until, suddenly Hazel got on Willows bad side. "Why do you always have to act so perfect." Said Willow raising her voice. "What
do you mean," said Hazel a little furiously. Willow had always been a little jealous of Hazel, so when Hazel started to bring up details about her
"perfect" life, well, Willow finally just snapped. "I'm not going to sit here and be yelled at by you, I'm leaving." Announced Hazel "Wait where are
you going?" asked Leo. "Anywhere but

Grimm Fairy Tales vs Disney Stories Essay
Grimm vs. Disney: The Making of a Fairy Tale Amber Brandenburg English 121 Proffessor Kari Lomanno 8/13/2012 The fairy tales that we grew
up with are not the originals. Disney and the brothers Grimm had two very different versions. While many of us grew up watching cute birds and
mice following the woe begotten princess, the original stories were forgotten by most. These stories were far darker, ending in cruel justice for a
stepsister or worse. The difference between aspects of the two tales discussed, in some instances, is the difference between night and day. Grimm fairy
tales contain more violence, harsher villains, and swifter justice. The first example of this can be seen in the difference between Disney's and... Show

Everyone knows that when the queen discovers that Snow White's beauty is greater than hers, she asks the huntsman to kill her. Finally, we all
know that the dwarves take care of her until her death, at which point the prince comes to the rescue and awakens her with a kiss. These are all
elements of the story that we come to expect when we hear the name Snow White. In the brothers Grimm version, the queen still demands the
death of Snow White and the Huntsman still lets her go. Only this time he kills a boar and brings the queen back its lungs and liver and she eats
them, thinking that they are from Snow White's body. Snow White still meets the dwarves in the woods, but their introduction to her was more akin
to that of goldilocks and the three bears. Then, when she is poisoned by the apple, the kiss of the prince is not what awakens her. Instead the prince
begs the dwarves to have her dead body and the trip to the castle dislodges the apple bite caught in her throat. Finally, at the marriage of the happy
couple, the queen arrives and is forced to dance in red hot iron shoes until she dies. Definitely not what one would remember from the Disney
adaptation. These are just two examples out of many. The versions of fairy tales by Grimm and Disney are always similar in nature and moral. The
differences in the details of the story range from minute to highly significant. The punishments placed upon the villains are always

Fairy Tales And Modern Stories Bruno Bettelheim Summary
Bruno Bettelheim and Maria Tatar both composed articles on the effects that fairy tales have on people's lives. Bruno Bettelheim wrote the article
"Fairy Tales and Modern Stories." In that article he believes that fairy tales are considered "safe" stories and provide mental stability to children when
they find themselves in tough situations. When Maria Tatar wrote her article "Introduction to Fairy Tales" she also elaborates on his point, but also
explains these fairy tales have different effects on all ages. While both authors agree that fairy tales have mixed effects on people, they also have many
disagreements in between. Both authors do ultimately believe that fairy tales are important in children's lives, but there are similarities and differences
between these two articles that need to be established. Bettelheim and Tatar both explain that fairy tales have certain effects on children at a young age,
but they way they explain their effects are quite different from each other. Bettelheim uses his psychological studies to draw a deeper understanding on
the effects of these stories. He shows us that the unconscious mind... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

consolation [. . .] that fairy tales require if the child is to be strengthened for meeting the vagaries of his life." Similarly, Tatar feels that these stories
provide a "safe" haven for children when they are distressed. She explains that fairy tales do help relate in their stresses and struggles "Each text

Summary Of The Fairy Forest In A Tale Of A Short Story
The forest of Quedayla, is located next to the swamp. The swamp is where the terrifying monsters, by the fairies standards, are banished, where
they will never have peace, while being on high alert for the dangerous swamp creatures that lurk among them. One of the monsters in the swamp
is Fowley the witch, how is particularly more enraged at the fairy's than others, for banishing her to the dark depths of the swamp. So, she devised
a plan to turn their beautiful home into a place to fear, just like they did to her. After, weeks of work Fowley made a tar like substance, that would
turn all the plant matter in its path to dead remains. Under the cloak of night, she snuck to the outskirts of the fairy village, located at the heart of
Quedayla. Where she placed the tar like substance at the foot of an old oak tree and it started to decay. At a slower rate than Fowley was hopping,
but she had no time to fix it, because there are fairy guards patrolling the border of the fairy village, to ensure everyone in the village stayed safe.
The next day in the fairy village, in the afternoon Lily went to the training field for the fairies guards where she would find her friend Rosetta, after
her morning training. Lily cheerfully said, " Good afternoon Rosetta! How was was your training?" To a young fairy sitting on a wooden bench with
a sword in her hand. She replied with, "It was the same as always." in a dingy tone. "Rosetta, look on the bright side, after all this you will be

Fairy Tales And Folk Stories
For centuries fairy tales and folk stories have been created and told to entertain audiences and explain the world. The stories hold clear messages for
their readers, but they also send more subtle messages with their details. Fairy tales are especially targeted, though not exclusively, at children because
they are passed on by parents each night before bed. But some of the stories that have been told for a long time across many different cultures have
affected the perspectives of people more than they realize. One of the most well–known examples of a fairy tale that has been influential in American
culture is the classic tale of Cinderella. Though the details of the tale can vary with different authors and cultures, aspects of it have taken on a
certain significance in modern American culture in multiple ways and the story keeps changing as society progresses. Cinderella now serves as a
reference point in American culture that contains societal messages about gender roles, beauty, and femininity that people have incorporated into
their developing worldview. In many ways, fairy tales influence how people see the world or how they used to see it when the story was created.
Leo Tolstoy argued in his work "What is Art?" that "The majority has always understood, and still understands, what we also recognize as being the
very best of art...folk legends, fairy tales and folk songs are understood by all" (266). The universiality of the stories stem from the relatable stories in a

"Really, dear, that's nice," he said, at the same time feeling a rush and thrill at their new secret. He wanted to say more but the words would not come
and she had already passed on into the kitchen.
The evening went the same way as all their evenings. The kids turned off the T.V. before dinner and then went to bed on the dot, once the homework
was done. Then John and Matilda sat on the sofa and read their books. John was unable to concentrate. He felt the presence of the suit laying on the
sofa. He wondered if Matilda could feel it. His mind slipped to the box in the cellar and he wondered how to broach the subject to her.
Finally he put down the book, after he had re–read the same page several times, and had still not taken it in. Matilda looked up a few times but
resumed her reading undisturbed. John's mind slipped back to the suit laying in its box and thinking its dirty filthy thoughts. He felt himself growing

At half past nine Matilda picked up her bookmark and closed the book around it. She rose, walked across the room and put it back in the bookcase.
She placed her glasses in the case and put it where she always kept them. Without looking at John, she went to the bathroom like she always did at half

The Halloween Carnival : A Story Of A Fairy Story

ready for the big Halloween carnival. Only ages 13 and older were allowed. "Yeah, totally..." Darcie agreed. She had wanted to go trick–or–treating, but
her friends had claimed that they were too old for it. "Only babies go trick–or–treating," Darcie's friends had told her. "Besides, we can finally get into
the carnival!" The arrived at Penelope's door, and Penelope took a pink key out of her pocket. She put it in the lock, and there was a click as the door
unlocked. "I get the bathroom!" Marie called as they rushed inside. Darcie took her red riding hood costume out of her backpack. They were all going
to be fairy tale characters. Penelope was going to be Cinderella, Marie was going to be Gretel, and Amy was going to be Sleeping Beauty.
Penelope and Amy had bought the costumes. "You'll pick the baby costumes," Amy had replied when Darcie asked to come. "We can pick out the
costumes that actually match our age." Darcie's costume had clunky red high heels, a short red dress with a red leather belt and a small cloak that
stopped just below her shoulders. The dress was too tight and the shoes pinched her toes, but Darcie didn't complain. Once everyone had their
costumes on, Penelope lead them into her room. "Darcie, where's your makeup?" Penelope asked disapprovingly. "Was I supposed to bring makeup?"

You always hated love stories, maybe that 's why ours never worked. You always made fun of me for gushing over those picture

love stories. I was eighteen, you were twenty. You were my first love, I was just another prize for you to acquire. You touched my life, shoved your
arms in elbow deep. You stirred everything up and then, you left. You turned me into this person that I don 't even recognize. This girl who is lost
without you. Do you remember the day we met? I do. You looked at me, and it was like I had never been looked at by anyone before. It was as if I had
gone my entire life unseen, invisible. I loved the way you looked at me. I don 't know what you thought, or what type of girl you saw, but I liked
what your eyes did when they met mine. It was early March and, being the Mid–west, there was plenty of grey snow on the ground. I was walking back

Fairy Tales : The Story Of A Fairy Story
As a child, I wanted to know the difference between what was real, and what was not. I wanted to be like the Disney princesses I saw on television
such as Cinderella and Snow White they were powerful and kind. In reality, I realized those stories were fictional stories called fairy tales. Fairy Tales
are stories that have been told throughout many generations. Fairy Tales can affect us the same way as a dream through the thought of a mystery and
stories that stimulate our own thoughts. I have experienced many fairy tales throughout my childhood, such as the story of Santa Claus, Stephen King
It", and the Disney Channel movie " The Cheetah Girls."
It was Christmas Eve, I was at my grandmother's house with my family getting prepared for Christmas morning. However, My grandmother and
mother wanted the children to stay in the back room while they were wrapping presents in the living room. I was excited about Christmas because I
loved making cookies for Santa, my siblings began teasing me because I believe in Santa Claus. I got very upset and started crying because people
teased me for believing in Santa Claus. My sister and brother began persuading me to believing Santa Claus was not real, but I did not believe them.
When my mother and grandmother were done wrapping presents they went left to get more decorations. Afterwards, I started getting thirsty and went
into the kitchen to get a glass of milk even though my mother told us to stsy in thre room. Then, I headed towards

Jareth: A Brief Story Of The Fairy World
In a time long long ago a sorcerer named Jareth fell in love with a girl named Sarah. Sarah's father and step–mother would not let her marry Jareth
because they wanted her to keep her, as a servant, to care for their other child. In a fit of rage, Jareth kidnapped this other child and spirited it away
to the fairy world. In this new world, Jareth built a palace for his Sarah. He turned the spoiled child into a goblin and kept it to be a servant.
Many stories of the fairy world tell us that time moves differently there than in our world (Rip Van Winkle for one). In the time it took for Jareth to
build his kingdom, which he may have thought was little more than a few years, Sarah grew old and died.

Short Story : My Fairy Godmother
My Fairy Godmother – Life is a paradox and I have come to embrace this because I have seen how both the good, awesome, exciting things in life are
also accompanied by the sad, hurtful, embarrassing, painful things of life. Growing up, I thrived on fairy tales as an escape, hoping for an
idealistic happy ending to a childhood of abuse and neglect. Cinderella was my favorite protagonist because I identified with her. She, just like
me, went through rejection and was treated poorly. I tried to emulate her hardworking, humble, and obedient nature to gain approval from
everyone. She was also bullied and never given opportunities to thrive until one magical night! That scene was, for me, was the climax of the
story because the fairy godmother was a lot like my grandma. I always felt loved and valued when I was with her without trying to prove to her I
was worthy of her love. I identified with this scene because Cinderella's fairy godmother gave her a beautiful gown for the prince's ball, while my
grandma would stitch and knit dresses for me. My gradma, knew I loved fairy tales and that my favorite color was red, so she knitted a poncho like
the one in Little Red Riding Hood. She showed me what true, unconditional love is and I strive to share that love with those around me.
Stories Help Us Dream – I turned to stories that gave me hope, built my faith, and encouraged integrity and perseverance when my parents could not
offer me guidance. Stories made such a significant impact in my life, that I not only read them but made them up as well. I adapted stories to
include protagonists that resembled me and added more adventure to lengthen them. In India, where I come from, every lesson is taught with a
parable and as a result, the moral of the story is not only easy to remember but also gets retold many times. Aesop's fable about the, "Wind and The
Sun", taught me the importance of humility while "David and Goliath", taught me that I could conquer my fears with God on my side. When I was a
teen most of my favorite stories came from the Bible. I was enamored by Samson's strength and Solomon's wisdom to the extent that I told my dad I
would marry someone with brain and brawn. This pretty much came to pass, when I married

A Fairy Story : A Superhero's Story
A superhero's story "Time` is running out," she whispered under her breath. She gathered all the strength inside of her that's left. Water pounded
on her face angrily, and the thunder boomed with intention of being heard. She's barely inching forward. She's knows she is not going to make it.
Her only option is to find a place for her new born baby to live. Even though he is 3 weeks old she knows he can survive. He has to! Minutes away
from death she has to act quickly. She steadily makes her way to a nearby dumpster and makes him a bed out of anything her tiny hands can find.
Carefully she lowers her only child into the old, rusted, stinky dumpster. Then she collapsed onto the floor and laid there breathless. Bobby was a

stranger just kept walking as if nothing happened. Bobby got mad so he punched a nearby trash can. Bobby decided that he was going to go
exploring. He packed a tin canteen, a loaf of bread he stole from the baker, and set off. At around noon he came across an abandoned school with

On Fairy Stories Sparknotes
Fantasy writer and lore crafter J.R.R. Tolkien looks to unveil the mysteries surrounding fairy stories in his aptly named essay, "On Fairy–Stories".
While Tolkien wholeheartedly admits that he is in no sense an expert on the matter of fairy stories, he does consider himself an observant traveler upon
its surreptitious shores. The realm of fairy stories, according to Tolkien, are vast and unwilling to divulge their secrets cooperatively. As such, Tolkien
seeks to dissect the inner workings of fairy stories by attempting to answer the questions: what is a fairy story, where is its origin, and finally what is
the use of a fairy story?
Firstly, Tolkien attempts to compose his analysis concerning what a fairy story is. Tolkien explains that both... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tolkien believes that humans are the creation of a higher being and are made in its image. As such qualities of this higher being are imbued upon
its creation leading humans to have the desire to create. With this mentality, Tolkien finds that all makers of fairy stories hope to create worlds,
landscapes, and creatures of their own, their own perilous land. Tolkien takes a step back and states that if a writer is able to masterfully create a
secondary world that is able to stand on its own then the writer may also be able to glimpse ever so slightly into the inner workings of our own
primary world. To look further into this idea Tolkien takes the bible as the ultimate work offairy tale as works may have started as fables of man, never
really true, but over time it has worked its way into the history of our primary world. Tolkien closes his analysis of fairy stories by saying, "all tales
may come true; and yet, at the last, redeemed, they may be as like us and unlike the forms that we give them as Man, finally redeemed, will be like
and unlike the fallen that we know." (Tolkien 157) The bible's secondary world becomes so well made that the idea that it could in actuality be the
very world we live in has crossed into many reader's minds, it also allows men the ability to plot their great escape into the perilous

Summary Of Tolkien's Lecture 'On Fairy Stories'
In Tolkien's lecture "On Fairy–Stories," he wants the readers to understand that the nature of the Universe is creative. The Universe can create many
things whether they are alive or if they are not real. In the Universe anything is possible and it can come to live if the human allows it to. In the lecture
it explains why the universe is creative by saying that it has "beauty that is an enchantment, and an ever present peril; both joy and sorrow as sharp as
words." The Universe is so creative that it is like an enchantment where people can experience both happiness and sadness. It enables the human being
to image things that can be possible or that can be created with its mind.
Another way in which the lecture gives a good explanation for why the Universe is creative is when Tolkien talks about the definition... Show more

In the lecture Tolkien tells the readers that the man has the power to create stories in order to describe the events of what people are going through.
They can express these stories as "satire, adventure, morality, and fantasy" and "causes it to take living form and colour before the eyes." This makes
the readers understand that the fairy stories are created with the intentions to relate to existing events happening, but can be seen in different ways and
told by different personifications.
While the nature of the Universe is creative and the nature of the man is inventive, the last part that we are left with is how to be happy. According to
Tolkien's lecture in order to be happy the man needs to know how to say its story. The man can become a "sub–creator" when he creates the fairy
stories and makes his own inventive "representation or symbolic interpretation of the beauties and terrors of the world." When the human is able to do
this, it has reached to the point where it can make people imagine a different world where they can go and have their desires come to

thing they had was fog that flew up into the air and filled around the house, giving it a spooky glow. Tod had gone inside to get a drink, when Josie

The Fairy Tale Of Cinderella As A Love Story
So, we all know of the fictional fairy tale of Cinderella, but what if we changed the facts around in a new order, changing the different characters
rolls in the story and their apparel. Most look at this story as a love story, but what if we changed the story to a new conspiracy of fiction. How will
these changes affect the outcome of this fairy tale? Well let's find out.
Once upon a time there was a young girl named Emma who was a kind hearted young girl, who loved the company of her animals so much she could
find comfort during difficult times. Especially when her mother Ava passed away in dreary times. Her father William was a traveling man who did
his do dilatants of hard work and because of this fact, he was unable to be of comfort to her. However, Emma and her father had a very strong

Tolkien's The Hobbit: A True Fairy Story
Tolkien a literary icon set the standards of what a fantasy is in his essay On Fairy Stories assessing what he believes a story must contain to make
it a true "fairy story". Tolkien never references The Hobbit which he published two years prior. The Hobbit is Tolkien's first novel based in a
fictitious land known as Middle Earth and is about a hobbit named Bilbo Baggins and his unexpected journey with a band of dwarfs and a wizard.
Tolkien must have believed his novel The Hobbit to be a fairy story by the standards he set in his essay and there is sufficient evidence to say that he
did. Tolkien offers a basic outline of what goes into a fairy story from the Oxford English dictionary, "a tale about fairies, or generally a fairy legend;...

This quote is about the main character Bilbo Baggins a hobbit whom has never left the borders of the shire or had a desire for adventure until
Tolkien inserts the character Gandalf. Tolkien's The Hobbit revolves around this concept of desire where everyone in the story desires something
whether it's Gollum and the ring or the dwarfs and their treasure. Tolkien in his essay brings up that idea of desire in a fairy story stating "When
the sudden "turn" comes we get a piercing glimpse of joy, and heart's desire, that for a moment passes outside the frame, rends indeed the very web
of story" (On Fairy Stories 23). Tolkien is saying here that in a fairy story when the characters life takes a "turn" and gets that glimpse of joy that he
gets a desire that he would not have had on his own. This is how The Hobbit story began due to the Dwarfs stories Bilbo got that inner desire to "to go
see the great mountains, and hear the pine–trees, explore the caves, and wear a sword instead of a walking stick" (The Hobbit, 24). In this quote
Tolkien suggest that Bilbo had that inner desire to leave the shire because of the "turn" in his life. Gandalf and the band of dwarfs were this "turn"
when they showed up on Bilbo's door step and tell him of the adventures and the beauties of Middle Earth he would endure. From Tolkien's quote
Bilbo's desire for adventure is the start for the web of the story which is a trait that makes The Hobbit a true fairy

What Characteristics Does The Bachelor's Story Share With...
Mid–Semester Take–home Exam: The Storyteller
1.What characteristic does the bachelor's story share with the modern fairy story? In what ways does it subvert the audiences' expectations?
Like most modern fairy stories the bachelor's story begins with the phrase 'Once upon a time', has a reoccurring pattern (the word 'good'), incudes a
prince, animals, good versus evil and a journey. That is, Bertha, the main character who receives multiple rewards for being good, comes face to face
with a ravenous wolf while strolling through a park. Unlike Little Red Riding hood or other fairy tale heroines, a prince or bystander does not come to
rescue Bertha. Nor, is there any magical intervention. Instead, the story subverts the audiences' expectation by having the main character killed because
of her goodness (being too good) while no punishment befalls the wolf. This goes against the conventional happy ending, and the narrative 'good things
happen to good people'.
Additionally, the setting and the verbiage used to describe Bertha is unconventional. Flowers hold different meanings, but typically represent beauty,
and may signify prosperity. For this reason, the 'beautiful park' is expected to have flowers. Instead, it contained no flowers but many pigs. The ... Show

Comparing Two Fairy Stories
Title Some fairy tales end with a happy marriage to a wealthy person and living a life on a bed full of roses. An example can be found in Beauty
and the Beast. There is a young girl and her father is a merchant. She ends up marrying the Beast, who ends up being a handsome prince, and live
happily ever after. But there are two fairy tales that are a little different. The first one is Thumbelina. She goes through all of these obstacles to end up
marrying a prince. She is gifted wings and ends up living happily ever after. There are some fairy tales that really don't have that "happy" ending. The
Little Mermaid gets her heart broken due to her living in almost a completely different world than her true love. She ends up committing suicide because

This theme is shown in all the fairy tales. This is shown in Beauty and the Beast when Belle falls for a beast who ends up having a heart of gold
and later becomes a handsome prince who, before Belle loved him, was under a curse. This theme is shown in Thumbelina when all of the guys fall
in love with her, even when being blind. The mole falls in love with her just from hearing her sing. It doesn't matter what Thumbelina looked like.
This theme is also shown in the Little Mermaid. The Little Mermaid fell in love with someone she thought she could have. She was beautiful and
wanted him. She didn't feel her self worth was a whole lot, especially at the end, because she saw him with another woman.
Themes of sacrifice, unconditional love and beauty not determining someone's worth were all shown within these fairy tales. Sacrifice is shown a lot
of times when there is unconditional love. Most of the time there is unconditional love, there is also someone not determining someone's worth.
Beauty and the Beast, Thumbelina and the Little Mermaid all have overlapping themes. Most fairy tales end up with happy marriages and living on a
bed full of roses. But there are some that have very low

The tradition of stories has been pass down to families for centuries and the sequence never stops from wiping out. Stories like fairy tales has
brought in a new element in the world that involves creating a completely new world of imagination for everyone. Nowadays, these tales
manipulated by popular studios has risen to make the plot more appealing to everyone with a happy ending twist. Not all have a happy plot. Writers
such as the Grimm's have made tales that brings out a darker side of the story. One tale known as the "Little Red Riding Hood" is a great example on
bringing it down to the exact beginning. This is about a girl in a red coat with a hood off to deliver some food to her sick Granny's house. She then
came across a wolf that apparently went off to the house that little red was heading. The wolf eventually gobbles up Granny and waits for little red to
arrive. The relations of how culture, religion, and society can cause changes to the details of these tales. By discovering the true origin of "Little Red
Riding Hood". Will begin on whether this tale has any effects on the exploration in religion. As well as any other influence that might have changed
how the true tale has changed.
Firstly, the "Little Red Riding Hood" has had many versions out in public. Only one can be the foundation of the whole tale. Each stories has its own

What Is A Fairy Story
The only young people remaining in the drawing room, not counting the young lady visitor and the countess' eldest daughter (who was four years
older than her sister and behaved already like a grown–up person), were Nicholas and Sonya, the niece. Sonya was a slender little brunette with a
tender look in her eyes which were veiled by long lashes, thick black plaits coiling twice round her head, and a tawny tint in her complexion and
especially in the color of her slender but graceful and muscular arms and neck. By the grace of her movements, by the softness and flexibility of her
small limbs, and by a certain coyness and reserve of manner, she reminded one of a pretty, half–grown kitten which promises to become a beautiful

"I have already told you, Papa," said his son, "that if you don't wish to let me go, I'll stay. But I know I am no use anywhere except in the army; I am
not a diplomat or a government clerk.– I don't know how to hide what I feel." As he spoke he kept glancing with the flirtatiousness of a handsome

"All right, all right!" said the old count. "He always flares up!
This Buonaparte has turned all their heads; they all think of how he rose from an ensign and became Emperor. Well, well, God grant it," he added, not

The elders began talking about Bonaparte. Julie Karagina turned to young Rostov.

A Fairy Story : The Story Of Poahhontas
To begin, I'd like to acknowledge the fact that the story of Pocahontas is not actually a fairy tale, and is based on true events. However, I chose this
Disney movie because it is exaggerated and has some make–believe characters that fit perfectly in correlation to the sacred. The story begins with a
group of English settlers on a voyage to the New World. They are lead by Captain John Smith and Governor Ratcliffe, who is interested in looking for
gold to obtain glory, wealth and status. Meanwhile, in an Indian tribe in North America, we're introduced toPocahontas, the Chief's daughter. Her father
tells her that a warrior of the tribe named Kocoum has asked for her hand in marriage. Pocahontas is worried that Kocoum is not right for her.
Pocahontas and her animal friends, Meeko and Flit, visit with Grandmother Willow, a spiritual talking tree, and Pocahontas tells her about Kocoum
and of a dream she's had involving a spinning arrow. She wants answers as to what the right path is for her. Soon after, Pocahontas sees the ship
carrying the English settlers and encounters Captain Smith. At first sight, they are afraid of one another but the two form a friendship learning about
each other and they fall in love. After a fight erupts between the English and the natives and one of their warriors is shot, the Chief orders the tribe to
stay away from them and declares war. Pocahontas's best friend, Nakoma, learns of the relationship between Pocahontas and Smith and tells

Story Analysis : Fairy Tales And Horror Stories
I wake up, from the freezing air that surrounds me in the empty room. It 's kinda been like this for a while... And it 's not like I can escape
whatever this 'darkness' is called. "Where is it...". I walk across the room and grab the crumpled journal. This is how I spend each day;
documenting the bruised life that I live in. It 's not fulfilling at all, ...obviously. I can still, faintly remember the scent of my room, where i would
spend most of my days, when boys were the least of my problems. I'd write stories. Fairy Tales and Horror Stories; Enjoyed writing those the best. It
was as if you were able to create your own little world, other lives, and you were the one who was in control of how they ended. A lot my
character's lives would turn out great, they were happy. Sometimes I made characters based on what it would be like to live in a perfect world,
wishing I could have a happily ever after. Am I the only one? But, writing my stories would also help me relieve a lot of anger that was built up
inside of me on certain days. On the days where I was myself, which was the reason I was bullied a lot. And it's funny how quickly that had
changed once I had changed myself. Anyways, living this life now is horrible. This definitely wasn 't the reason why I had ran away. ....I want to go

The Story Of Disney Fairy Story
When deciding what Disney fairy tale I wanted to cover I started looking into Disney, to my surprise there are many movies that had of course evil,
spiritual images and rituals. Some movies had a great message about family and life not allowing evil to prevail. Most stories were about being
brought into a traditional family that he or she didn't want to be apart of in the beginning. Having to live up to a standard that you don't want to
be apart of but you were born for a reason and traditions need to be carried on through you. For my Disney fairy tale I decided to go with Disney
newest Moana. I didn't think it was going to be any good but the message and the Character Moana reminded me of my self. First, it begins with
Moana as a young child walking toward the ocean, the water splits in half calling her into the ocean. She starts to walk in as it is showing her a
path and uncovers a rock looking object. Just in the nick of time her father grabs her and the water returns to its original way. Nobody in their tribe
is allowed in the ocean. You see years ago her tribe sailed the oceans and hunted for food but one day a Demi God name Maui stole the heart of Te
Fiti. Since he stole from another God she turned evil and cursed the land. As time went on Moana's fathers tribe moved from island to island
because of the curse, food they hunted were getting hard to find and coconuts inside turned into dirt. Moana is now all grown making decisions for
the tribe as time will come she will be the leader, taking her father's place. But Moana still feels the ocean calling her, her grandmother "Gramma
Tala" encourages her to leave and follow her heart. Gramma Tala is known as "keeper of the ancient stories". She is very spiritual, her spiritual
animal is a sting ray. Moana follows her Gramma Tala advance leaves her tribe behind and heads for the Response Paper–Fairy tale. 3 ocean. As this
happens the lights go dark Gramma Tala dies in peace knowing Moana is finally pursuing what she was born for. Moana sets off to find the heart of

The Consequences Of Fairy Stories
"Happily Ever After," the three words are so characteristic of a fairy tale. But do fairy tales need to have a happily ever after? The factual answer
would be – No. Some of the original versions of the adapted screenplays didn't have happy endings. In Charles Perrault's version "Little Red Riding
Hood1," the wolf ate the grandmother and Little Red, thus leaving us with no happy ending. But fairy tales aren't based on facts and logic. They are
the creation of our imagination and (some) a result of our perversions.
In Brothers Grimm though, "Little Red Cap2," the story has two different endings, both of them happy. The wolf is skinned by the Huntsman in the

The slightest reference to an adult theme makes the rating PG–13 or higher, thereby making it impossible to market to children. Thus, most of the
adaptations have reimagined the storyline to make it more suitable for younglings.
But not all of them are marketed towards children, for instance, In the TV series, "Once Upon a Time," the wolf turns out to be Red herself; who
kills her beloved as well as most of the village when she takes off her red cloak which being infused with magic prevents her from transforming. This
does have some grotesque scenes but the theme of happily ever after does persist.
Our society has changed drastically, from the 17th and 18th century, when these grotesque versions were classified as fairy tales. The censor board
brought into being in the beginning of the 20th century, played a huge role in determining what was age–appropriate and
Joshi 3 what wasn't6. This helped segregate the audience better and now authors and writers alike had guidelines for their content, according to their
consumer base.

Story : From Fairy Tale And Fantasy Ever Told
Cauldron of Story: From Rapunzel to Tangled The Cauldron of Story is, in simplistic terms, a metaphor used to symbolise the interconnection of all
story. The concept is that every myth, fairy–tale and fantasy ever told is both contained in and drawn from the Cauldron. Therefore, all story created is
a combination of the framework and themes of previously told tales, which have then been flavoured and adapted by the new teller. The tellers borrow
the parts they want, then they sculpt and shape them to fit their own vision. By doing this they change the flavour of the Cauldron, creating an entirely
new story, while retaining some of the themes and frameworks from others. Each time this is done, myths, fairy–tales and fantasies become more
intertwined, creating a visible intersection between all story ever told over the ages. Though the idea of a metaphorical cauldron or soup was
originally mentioned in Dasent's 'Popular Tales from the Norse', the concept wasn't fully fleshed out into the Cauldron of Tale until Tolkien's essay, 'On
Faerie–Stories'. According to Dickerson and O'Hara, in his essay Tolkien also refers to the Cauldron as a 'soup containing bones' (112). In this
re–wording of the Cauldron, the bones are the framework and themes of previous tales, and the soup is the teller's adaptation of the story in its
entirety. The concept of 'The Cauldron of Story' can be explained in more detail by using the example of Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm's story 'Rapunzel'

Comparing Women In Fairy Tales And A Cinderella Story
While classic fairy tales give a solid baseline on morals, it also bases itself in the patriarchal concepts by placing women as passive figures that need
to be saved by a man and that a girl's wildest dreams can be fulfilled with marriage. These tales instruct that marriage is the "happily ever after"
women are satisfied with; this may have been satisfactory during those time periods where women typically were not allowed by society to carry much
agency, but as women change, so too should their stories.
With the rise of female power in the past century, there is a need forfairy tale adaptations that fit the standards of modern women. An example of a tale
that has recently been adapted a dozen times over is the story of Cinderella. One adaptation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Fairy Tales Compared To The Story Of Cinderella

  • 1. Fairy Tales Compared To The Story Of Cinderella Fairy tales are important part of every individual because in the past grandparents used to tell us the stories about fairies and witches. Cinderella is very interesting story. One of the most popular and lovable fairy tales is Cinderella, it is the story of beautiful girl whose stepmother abuses her, and later in the story she missing sandal; there are many other stories related to this. For example, Rhodopis, Yeh–Hsien, Donkeyskin, The Three Gowns, Catskin, and The Princess in the Suit of Leather and these tales are similar to the story of Cinderella. Cinderella is a poor girl who got married with help of the god mother and this story has a great impact on younger generations because children love to hear fairy tales and they start imagining their own life as the characters in Fairy tales. Cinderella is a fairy tale which shows the dreams come true of a young and beautiful girl named Ella, who is tortured by her stepmother and stepsisters after her father's death. She faced many circumstances. She does not have any kind of power and magic skills but because of her honesty and attractive look, her life totally changed. Ella's Godmother gifts her slippers and she attend the Royal ball, where she dance with Prince and there she loses one of her slipper. Prince wants to find her and marry her, so he orders to the shoulders to find her and finally they find her and bring her to palace, then prince Charming marries her. Cinderella is fairy tale that reflects the power of love, honesty, and patience. There are many other stories those are similar to Cinderella. For example, the story of Yeh–hsien is almost similar to the Cinderella. Yeh–hsien (the story same as Cinderella) is a girl whose father is passed away and she lives with stepmother and stepsisters. Her stepmother sends her into the woods to collect firewood and one day she found one fish with gold eyes and red fins and she feeds the fish. The fish comes out the pond only when she called and fish knows her from her dress and one day her stepmother trapped her and she kill the fish, second day when Yeh–hsien called the fish she did not see the fish and then there a man appears and he tells the story to her. He advises her to bring the bone of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. A Fairy Story : A Story Of A Fairy Tale A story about a princess trying to find her prince, but constantly being stopped by an antagonist or an "Evil force" is cliche. When given the assignment to write a fairytale, I thought why not write a story about a teacher that bit more than what he/she could chew. Although, it's not bad being an overachiever so that wouldn't be a good message to convey. I had numerous ideas that had cross upon my mind, but one that I had actually dreamt about became my story. So here is my dream alternated by me, but told in a fairytale form. Once upon a time, there was a girl who was living a perfect life in a top notched spotless house. She lived in a massive mansion that was four stories high with an elevator in it. Her name was Madison, a 16–year–old girl who cried over spilled milk. From time to time, she would throw money at commoners and say it was a good deed. Her maid, the same age as her, had an imperfect life with a flawed house. She slept in a room with four of her siblings, struggling to find a comfortable place to sleep at. Her name was Misty, a girl who lived in a financially unstable house because she wasn't as "Lucky" like Madison was. One day, Madison was going to attend a social gathering so she had to dress to impress. She wanted the dress to be one of a kind, a dress that'll make people resentful. So she went shopping and found this gorgeous dress, she begged her dad to get her this dazzling gown with 10,000 carats of gems that were used to decorate it. Of course, the dad would not decline his daughter's wishes and bought the 1 million dollar dress without an ounce of hesitation. Later on, Madison decided to try on her new dress at home just to see if it was a perfect fit. She asked Misty to go fetch her a glass of milk and some cookies. Misty ran to the kitchen while stumbling a little bit because she knew that Madison would deduct her check if she wasn't quick enough. When Misty arrived at Madison's room, she accidentally tripped over a shoe and spilled the milk all over Madison. The milk had splattered all over her gown and Madison was in complete shock and began to cry. She threw the table over, ripped her dress, and looked like she was blowing air out of her ears. Her dad rushed over to her room ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. What Is A Fairy Story? Soon, Seth caught sight of Kayla again, she was now at the playgrounds highest point, what appeared to mimic a castle tower equipped with a pointed roof. An identical tower stood a little more than a dozen or so yards over to the left, and a walking bridge spanned the two. Kayla moved from the tower on Seth's right to the one on the left, her footfalls tapping on the metallic bridge as she scurried. Once inside the second tower, Seth saw Kayla peer down at the grounds below as if searching for Natalie. But by now, Natalie was a distance away on the other side of the structure climbing up a ladder made to imitate a spider's web. At its top it led to a platform where kids could go in several directions, one of which was an entryway... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She then began walking back towards her mother. "What do you mean someone is pulling your hair?" Natalie's mother asked with an almost exhausted tone of voice as she saw her child approach with a frown on her puss. "There's no one else here, honey." Natalie's mother then glanced around and eventually moved her attention over towards Seth as if to suggest, Kids... But, Seth turned away, hoping to make himself out to look as disinterested as possible. He eventually settled on staring out into the expanding reach of the park's open lawn as if in meditation or at least lost in thought. "Somebody pulled my hair twice," Natalie griped, her words forceful and determined to prove their worth. "They did it once over by the swings and then they did it again when I came down off the slide." Natalie's mother looked confused, but not surprised by her daughter's admission of an imaginary foe. She wanted to believe her child, but logic dictated that her daughter must be mistaken. "You must have just gotten your hair snagged on part of the playground equipment while you were running around, that's all, honey," she suggested. "No," Natalie huffed in refutation. "I wasn't even on any of the swings when it happened," she pouted. "Someone's pulling my hair." "Well, I don't know what to tell you, sweetheart. No other kids are here. Take a look around, you're the only one." Seth clearly heard what ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. We Are All Familiar With Bible Stories And Fairy Tales We are all familiar with Bible stories and fairy tales. They typically began as verbal stories, passed down from generation to generation, before they were put down on paper or made into a film. Stories which use outlandish situations to, ideally, teach the readers how to live as good people. Stories such as Cinderella, The Three Little Pigs, Snow White, Jonah and the Whale, Noah 's Ark, Hansel and Gretel, and The Adventures of Pinocchio include situations which could not have possibly happened. These stories may help lull children to sleep but, at the same time, teach morals in a harsh or even violent manner.
Like fairy tales, the Bible was written to teach stories to impressionable minds. Unlike fairy tales, Bible stories are still read today, they are not only read by children, but by adults with or without children. Many Christians today will argue that the Bible stories, such as Jonah and the Whale, Noah 's Ark, Adam and Eve, and such, were not written to take literally. If they are correct in assuming those stories are not literal encounters, then how would someone venturing through the bible know what to take literally and what to take as the word of God? If the stories of the Bible were never meant to be accepted as real events, then can they be considered fairy tales? If all stories in the bible are, in fact, the word of God and meant to be taken literal, then scientists need to re–evaluate almost everything they know about the world and how it works. It is ... • 5. A Story Of The Narrative : A Fairy Story? Hazel called out to her friends, "Let's go guys. We have to get to the campsite before dark to set up." "What's the hurry?" Asked Leo,"Are you scared?" "No!" said Hazel defensively. "I'm just playing with you, said Leo, lighten up." Leo looked at Hazel admiring her beauty. Too bad she'll never be mine, he thought. Then Willow and Ryan walked out of the house with the rest of the supplies and got into the car. Within a few short hours they had reached Lakewood campsite. "We made it guys." Said Willow joyfully. "Let's set up there, near that spooky looking cave." Leo said. "Are you crazy." Voiced Willow with a slight tremble in her voice. "Never mind, just don't say anything when one of us gets taken by a monster." Hazel, Ryan, and Leo all laughed. Then Willow joined in once she realized what a silly idea it had been to mention monsters. It was after 7:00 pm. The sky appeared ominous with dark streaks of blue and purple smothered upon it. The four friends sat around a campfire talking and having a good time. Until, suddenly Hazel got on Willows bad side. "Why do you always have to act so perfect." Said Willow raising her voice. "What do you mean," said Hazel a little furiously. Willow had always been a little jealous of Hazel, so when Hazel started to bring up details about her "perfect" life, well, Willow finally just snapped. "I'm not going to sit here and be yelled at by you, I'm leaving." Announced Hazel "Wait where are you going?" asked Leo. "Anywhere but ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Grimm Fairy Tales vs Disney Stories Essay Grimm vs. Disney: The Making of a Fairy Tale Amber Brandenburg English 121 Proffessor Kari Lomanno 8/13/2012 The fairy tales that we grew up with are not the originals. Disney and the brothers Grimm had two very different versions. While many of us grew up watching cute birds and mice following the woe begotten princess, the original stories were forgotten by most. These stories were far darker, ending in cruel justice for a stepsister or worse. The difference between aspects of the two tales discussed, in some instances, is the difference between night and day. Grimm fairy tales contain more violence, harsher villains, and swifter justice. The first example of this can be seen in the difference between Disney's and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Everyone knows that when the queen discovers that Snow White's beauty is greater than hers, she asks the huntsman to kill her. Finally, we all know that the dwarves take care of her until her death, at which point the prince comes to the rescue and awakens her with a kiss. These are all elements of the story that we come to expect when we hear the name Snow White. In the brothers Grimm version, the queen still demands the death of Snow White and the Huntsman still lets her go. Only this time he kills a boar and brings the queen back its lungs and liver and she eats them, thinking that they are from Snow White's body. Snow White still meets the dwarves in the woods, but their introduction to her was more akin to that of goldilocks and the three bears. Then, when she is poisoned by the apple, the kiss of the prince is not what awakens her. Instead the prince begs the dwarves to have her dead body and the trip to the castle dislodges the apple bite caught in her throat. Finally, at the marriage of the happy couple, the queen arrives and is forced to dance in red hot iron shoes until she dies. Definitely not what one would remember from the Disney adaptation. These are just two examples out of many. The versions of fairy tales by Grimm and Disney are always similar in nature and moral. The differences in the details of the story range from minute to highly significant. The punishments placed upon the villains are always ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Fairy Tales And Modern Stories Bruno Bettelheim Summary Bruno Bettelheim and Maria Tatar both composed articles on the effects that fairy tales have on people's lives. Bruno Bettelheim wrote the article "Fairy Tales and Modern Stories." In that article he believes that fairy tales are considered "safe" stories and provide mental stability to children when they find themselves in tough situations. When Maria Tatar wrote her article "Introduction to Fairy Tales" she also elaborates on his point, but also explains these fairy tales have different effects on all ages. While both authors agree that fairy tales have mixed effects on people, they also have many disagreements in between. Both authors do ultimately believe that fairy tales are important in children's lives, but there are similarities and differences between these two articles that need to be established. Bettelheim and Tatar both explain that fairy tales have certain effects on children at a young age, but they way they explain their effects are quite different from each other. Bettelheim uses his psychological studies to draw a deeper understanding on the effects of these stories. He shows us that the unconscious mind... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Similarly, Tatar feels that these stories provide a "safe" haven for children when they are distressed. She explains that fairy tales do help relate in their stresses and struggles "Each text becomes an enabling device, allowing readers to work through their fears and to purge themselves of hostile feelings and damaging ... • 8. Summary Of The Fairy Forest In A Tale Of A Short Story The forest of Quedayla, is located next to the swamp. The swamp is where the terrifying monsters, by the fairies standards, are banished, where they will never have peace, while being on high alert for the dangerous swamp creatures that lurk among them. One of the monsters in the swamp is Fowley the witch, how is particularly more enraged at the fairy's than others, for banishing her to the dark depths of the swamp. So, she devised a plan to turn their beautiful home into a place to fear, just like they did to her. After, weeks of work Fowley made a tar like substance, that would turn all the plant matter in its path to dead remains. Under the cloak of night, she snuck to the outskirts of the fairy village, located at the heart of Quedayla. Where she placed the tar like substance at the foot of an old oak tree and it started to decay. At a slower rate than Fowley was hopping, but she had no time to fix it, because there are fairy guards patrolling the border of the fairy village, to ensure everyone in the village stayed safe. The next day in the fairy village, in the afternoon Lily went to the training field for the fairies guards where she would find her friend Rosetta, after her morning training. Lily cheerfully said, " Good afternoon Rosetta! How was was your training?" To a young fairy sitting on a wooden bench with a sword in her hand. She replied with, "It was the same as always." in a dingy tone. "Rosetta, look on the bright side, after all this you will be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Fairy Tales And Folk Stories For centuries fairy tales and folk stories have been created and told to entertain audiences and explain the world. The stories hold clear messages for their readers, but they also send more subtle messages with their details. Fairy tales are especially targeted, though not exclusively, at children because they are passed on by parents each night before bed. But some of the stories that have been told for a long time across many different cultures have affected the perspectives of people more than they realize. One of the most well–known examples of a fairy tale that has been influential in American culture is the classic tale of Cinderella. Though the details of the tale can vary with different authors and cultures, aspects of it have taken on a certain significance in modern American culture in multiple ways and the story keeps changing as society progresses. Cinderella now serves as a reference point in American culture that contains societal messages about gender roles, beauty, and femininity that people have incorporated into their developing worldview. In many ways, fairy tales influence how people see the world or how they used to see it when the story was created. Leo Tolstoy argued in his work "What is Art?" that "The majority has always understood, and still understands, what we also recognize as being the very best of art...folk legends, fairy tales and folk songs are understood by all" (266). "Really, dear, that's nice," he said, at the same time feeling a rush and thrill at their new secret. He wanted to say more but the words would not come and she had already passed on into the kitchen. The evening went the same way as all their evenings. The kids turned off the T.V. before dinner and then went to bed on the dot, once the homework was done. Then John and Matilda sat on the sofa and read their books. John was unable to concentrate. He felt the presence of the suit laying on the sofa. He wondered if Matilda could feel it. His mind slipped to the box in the cellar and he wondered how to broach the subject to her. Finally he put down the book, after he had re–read the same page several times, and had still not taken it in. Matilda looked up a few times but resumed her reading undisturbed. John's mind slipped back to the suit laying in its box and thinking its dirty filthy thoughts. He felt himself growing and crossed his legs. At half past nine Matilda picked up her bookmark and closed the book around it. She rose, walked across the room and put it back in the bookcase. She placed her glasses in the case and put it where she always kept them. Without looking at John, she went to the bathroom like she always did at half past nine. "Besides, we can finally get into the carnival!" The arrived at Penelope's door, and Penelope took a pink key out of her pocket. She put it in the lock, and there was a click as the door unlocked. "I get the bathroom!" Marie called as they rushed inside. Darcie took her red riding hood costume out of her backpack. They were all going to be fairy tale characters. Penelope was going to be Cinderella, Marie was going to be Gretel, and Amy was going to be Sleeping Beauty. Penelope and Amy had bought the costumes. "You'll pick the baby costumes," Amy had replied when Darcie asked to come. "We can pick out the costumes that actually match our age." Darcie's costume had clunky red high heels, a short red dress with a red leather belt and a small cloak that stopped just below her shoulders. The dress was too tight and the shoes pinched her toes, but Darcie didn't complain. Once everyone had their costumes on, Penelope lead them into her room. "Darcie, where's your makeup?" • 13. Fairy Tales : The Story Of A Fairy Story As a child, I wanted to know the difference between what was real, and what was not. I wanted to be like the Disney princesses I saw on television such as Cinderella and Snow White they were powerful and kind. In reality, I realized those stories were fictional stories called fairy tales. Fairy Tales are stories that have been told throughout many generations. Fairy Tales can affect us the same way as a dream through the thought of a mystery and stories that stimulate our own thoughts. I have experienced many fairy tales throughout my childhood, such as the story of Santa Claus, Stephen King It", and the Disney Channel movie " The Cheetah Girls." It was Christmas Eve, I was at my grandmother's house with my family getting prepared for Christmas morning. However, My grandmother and mother wanted the children to stay in the back room while they were wrapping presents in the living room. I was excited about Christmas because I loved making cookies for Santa, my siblings began teasing me because I believe in Santa Claus. I got very upset and started crying because people teased me for believing in Santa Claus. My sister and brother began persuading me to believing Santa Claus was not real, but I did not believe them. • 15. Short Story : My Fairy Godmother My Fairy Godmother – Life is a paradox and I have come to embrace this because I have seen how both the good, awesome, exciting things in life are also accompanied by the sad, hurtful, embarrassing, painful things of life. Growing up, I thrived on fairy tales as an escape, hoping for an idealistic happy ending to a childhood of abuse and neglect. Cinderella was my favorite protagonist because I identified with her. She, just like me, went through rejection and was treated poorly. I tried to emulate her hardworking, humble, and obedient nature to gain approval from everyone. She was also bullied and never given opportunities to thrive until one magical night! That scene was, for me, was the climax of the story because the fairy godmother was a lot like my grandma. I always felt loved and valued when I was with her without trying to prove to her I was worthy of her love. I identified with this scene because Cinderella's fairy godmother gave her a beautiful gown for the prince's ball, while my grandma would stitch and knit dresses for me. My gradma, knew I loved fairy tales and that my favorite color was red, so she knitted a poncho like the one in Little Red Riding Hood. She showed me what true, unconditional love is and I strive to share that love with those around me. Stories Help Us Dream – I turned to stories that gave me hope, built my faith, and encouraged integrity and perseverance when my parents could not offer me guidance. Stories made such a significant impact in my life, that I not only read them but made them up as well. I adapted stories to include protagonists that resembled me and added more adventure to lengthen them. In India, where I come from, every lesson is taught with a parable and as a result, the moral of the story is not only easy to remember but also gets retold many times. Aesop's fable about the, "Wind and The Sun", taught me the importance of humility while "David and Goliath", taught me that I could conquer my fears with God on my side. When I was a teen most of my favorite stories came from the Bible. • 17. On Fairy Stories Sparknotes Fantasy writer and lore crafter J.R.R. Tolkien looks to unveil the mysteries surrounding fairy stories in his aptly named essay, "On Fairy–Stories". While Tolkien wholeheartedly admits that he is in no sense an expert on the matter of fairy stories, he does consider himself an observant traveler upon its surreptitious shores. The realm of fairy stories, according to Tolkien, are vast and unwilling to divulge their secrets cooperatively. As such, Tolkien seeks to dissect the inner workings of fairy stories by attempting to answer the questions: what is a fairy story, where is its origin, and finally what is the use of a fairy story? Firstly, Tolkien attempts to compose his analysis concerning what a fairy story is. Tolkien explains that both... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Tolkien believes that humans are the creation of a higher being and are made in its image. As such qualities of this higher being are imbued upon its creation leading humans to have the desire to create. With this mentality, Tolkien finds that all makers of fairy stories hope to create worlds, landscapes, and creatures of their own, their own perilous land. Tolkien takes a step back and states that if a writer is able to masterfully create a secondary world that is able to stand on its own then the writer may also be able to glimpse ever so slightly into the inner workings of our own primary world. To look further into this idea Tolkien takes the bible as the ultimate work offairy tale as works may have started as fables of man, never really true, but over time it has worked its way into the history of our primary world. Tolkien closes his analysis of fairy stories by saying, "all tales may come true; and yet, at the last, redeemed, they may be as like us and unlike the forms that we give them as Man, finally redeemed, will be like and unlike the fallen that we know." (Tolkien 157) The bible's secondary world becomes so well made that the idea that it could in actuality be the very world we live in has crossed into many reader's minds, it also allows men the ability to plot their great escape into the perilous ... • 18. Summary Of Tolkien's Lecture 'On Fairy Stories' In Tolkien's lecture "On Fairy–Stories," he wants the readers to understand that the nature of the Universe is creative. The Universe can create many things whether they are alive or if they are not real. In the Universe anything is possible and it can come to live if the human allows it to. In the lecture it explains why the universe is creative by saying that it has "beauty that is an enchantment, and an ever present peril; both joy and sorrow as sharp as words." The Universe is so creative that it is like an enchantment where people can experience both happiness and sadness. It enables the human being to image things that can be possible or that can be created with its mind. Another way in which the lecture gives a good explanation for why the Universe is creative is when Tolkien talks about the definition... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the lecture Tolkien tells the readers that the man has the power to create stories in order to describe the events of what people are going through. They can express these stories as "satire, adventure, morality, and fantasy" and "causes it to take living form and colour before the eyes." This makes the readers understand that the fairy stories are created with the intentions to relate to existing events happening, but can be seen in different ways and told by different personifications. While the nature of the Universe is creative and the nature of the man is inventive, the last part that we are left with is how to be happy. According to Tolkien's lecture in order to be happy the man needs to know how to say its story. The man can become a "sub–creator" when he creates the fairy stories and makes his own inventive "representation or symbolic interpretation of the beauties and terrors of the world." When the human is able to do this, it has reached to the point where it can make people imagine a different world where they can go and have their desires come to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Tolkien's The Hobbit: A True Fairy Story Tolkien a literary icon set the standards of what a fantasy is in his essay On Fairy Stories assessing what he believes a story must contain to make it a true "fairy story". Tolkien never references The Hobbit which he published two years prior. The Hobbit is Tolkien's first novel based in a fictitious land known as Middle Earth and is about a hobbit named Bilbo Baggins and his unexpected journey with a band of dwarfs and a wizard. Tolkien must have believed his novel The Hobbit to be a fairy story by the standards he set in his essay and there is sufficient evidence to say that he did. This quote is about the main character Bilbo Baggins a hobbit whom has never left the borders of the shire or had a desire for adventure until Tolkien inserts the character Gandalf. Tolkien's The Hobbit revolves around this concept of desire where everyone in the story desires something whether it's Gollum and the ring or the dwarfs and their treasure. Tolkien in his essay brings up that idea of desire in a fairy story stating "When the sudden "turn" comes we get a piercing glimpse of joy, and heart's desire, that for a moment passes outside the frame, rends indeed the very web of story" (On Fairy Stories 23). Tolkien is saying here that in a fairy story when the characters life takes a "turn" and gets that glimpse of joy that he gets a desire that he would not have had on his own. This is how The Hobbit story began due to the Dwarfs stories Bilbo got that inner desire to "to go see the great mountains, and hear the pine–trees, explore the caves, and wear a sword instead of a walking stick" (The Hobbit, 24). In this quote Tolkien suggest that Bilbo had that inner desire to leave the shire because of the "turn" in his life. Gandalf and the band of dwarfs were this "turn" when they showed up on Bilbo's door step and tell him of the adventures and the beauties of Middle Earth he would endure. From Tolkien's quote Bilbo's desire for adventure is the start for the web of the story which is a trait that makes The Hobbit a true fairy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In what ways does it subvert the audiences' expectations? Like most modern fairy stories the bachelor's story begins with the phrase 'Once upon a time', has a reoccurring pattern (the word 'good'), incudes a prince, animals, good versus evil and a journey. That is, Bertha, the main character who receives multiple rewards for being good, comes face to face with a ravenous wolf while strolling through a park. Unlike Little Red Riding hood or other fairy tale heroines, a prince or bystander does not come to rescue Bertha. Nor, is there any magical intervention. Instead, the story subverts the audiences' expectation by having the main character killed because of her goodness (being too good) while no punishment befalls the wolf. This goes against the conventional happy ending, and the narrative 'good things happen to good people'. Additionally, the setting and the verbiage used to describe Bertha is unconventional. Flowers hold different meanings, but typically represent beauty, and may signify prosperity. For this reason, the 'beautiful park' is expected to have flowers. • 30. Story Analysis : Fairy Tales And Horror Stories I wake up, from the freezing air that surrounds me in the empty room. It 's kinda been like this for a while... And it 's not like I can escape whatever this 'darkness' is called. "Where is it...". I walk across the room and grab the crumpled journal. This is how I spend each day; documenting the bruised life that I live in. It 's not fulfilling at all, ...obviously. I can still, faintly remember the scent of my room, where i would spend most of my days, when boys were the least of my problems. I'd write stories. Fairy Tales and Horror Stories; Enjoyed writing those the best. It was as if you were able to create your own little world, other lives, and you were the one who was in control of how they ended. A lot my character's lives would turn out great, they were happy. Sometimes I made characters based on what it would be like to live in a perfect world, wishing I could have a happily ever after. Am I the only one? But, writing my stories would also help me relieve a lot of anger that was built up inside of me on certain days. On the days where I was myself, which was the reason I was bullied a lot. And it's funny how quickly that had changed once I had changed myself. Anyways, living this life now is horrible. This definitely wasn 't the reason why I had ran away. ....I want to go back... But who the hell would take me back from what I had done to them. I open to a new page and start writing: January 3rd: I 'm getting sick and tired of this. About a year already. one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. The Story Of Disney Fairy Story When deciding what Disney fairy tale I wanted to cover I started looking into Disney, to my surprise there are many movies that had of course evil, spiritual images and rituals. Some movies had a great message about family and life not allowing evil to prevail. Most stories were about being brought into a traditional family that he or she didn't want to be apart of in the beginning. Having to live up to a standard that you don't want to be apart of but you were born for a reason and traditions need to be carried on through you. For my Disney fairy tale I decided to go with Disney newest Moana. I didn't think it was going to be any good but the message and the Character Moana reminded me of my self. First, it begins with Moana as a young child walking toward the ocean, the water splits in half calling her into the ocean. She starts to walk in as it is showing her a path and uncovers a rock looking object. Just in the nick of time her father grabs her and the water returns to its original way. Nobody in their tribe is allowed in the ocean. You see years ago her tribe sailed the oceans and hunted for food but one day a Demi God name Maui stole the heart of Te Fiti. Since he stole from another God she turned evil and cursed the land. As time went on Moana's fathers tribe moved from island to island because of the curse, food they hunted were getting hard to find and coconuts inside turned into dirt. Moana is now all grown making decisions for the tribe as time will come she will be the leader, taking her father's place. But Moana still feels the ocean calling her, her grandmother "Gramma Tala" encourages her to leave and follow her heart. Gramma Tala is known as "keeper of the ancient stories". She is very spiritual, her spiritual animal is a sting ray. Moana follows her Gramma Tala advance leaves her tribe behind and heads for the Response Paper–Fairy tale. 3 ocean. As this happens the lights go dark Gramma Tala dies in peace knowing Moana is finally pursuing what she was born for. Moana sets off to find the heart of Te Fiti and Maui to take him to her since caused everything. Things are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. The Consequences Of Fairy Stories "Happily Ever After," the three words are so characteristic of a fairy tale. But do fairy tales need to have a happily ever after? The factual answer would be – No. Some of the original versions of the adapted screenplays didn't have happy endings. In Charles Perrault's version "Little Red Riding Hood1," the wolf ate the grandmother and Little Red, thus leaving us with no happy ending. But fairy tales aren't based on facts and logic. They are the creation of our imagination and (some) a result of our perversions. In Brothers Grimm though, "Little Red Cap2," the story has two different endings, both of them happy. The wolf is skinned by the Huntsman in the first one and in the second one, little red is less naГЇve, doesn't wander from her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The slightest reference to an adult theme makes the rating PG–13 or higher, thereby making it impossible to market to children. Thus, most of the adaptations have reimagined the storyline to make it more suitable for younglings. But not all of them are marketed towards children, for instance, In the TV series, "Once Upon a Time," the wolf turns out to be Red herself; who kills her beloved as well as most of the village when she takes off her red cloak which being infused with magic prevents her from transforming. This does have some grotesque scenes but the theme of happily ever after does persist. Our society has changed drastically, from the 17th and 18th century, when these grotesque versions were classified as fairy tales. The censor board brought into being in the beginning of the 20th century, played a huge role in determining what was age–appropriate and Joshi 3 what wasn't6. This helped segregate the audience better and now authors and writers alike had guidelines for their content, according to their consumer base. "You don't have too." "You have a long road ahead. Don't make it harder," he warned. Dominique took the coin and placed it in the purse that the finance minster had given her. Dominique started towards the horse. "Wait." The guard took off his battered cloak and placed it on her shoulder. "You will attract robbers dressed like that." Then his offered his hands to help her on. "I wish you well... if for nothing else but making sure we didn't get stuck with Lady Tilly." His words were kind and earned him another smile. Dominique noticed the guard was older and saw something paternal in the worry in his eyes. "We will be fine," she promised someone's father. "It isn't the first time I started over. I have something more to fight for this time." Dominique rode out of the castle. She looked forward, refusing to watch her home vanish. Keenon slept most of the rest of the day. However when the sun set, passing through all of the colors that the bubble that took Osman's village had, Dominique stopped to camp in the shelter of a stone wall near a stream. • 35. Story : From Fairy Tale And Fantasy Ever Told Cauldron of Story: From Rapunzel to Tangled The Cauldron of Story is, in simplistic terms, a metaphor used to symbolise the interconnection of all story. The concept is that every myth, fairy–tale and fantasy ever told is both contained in and drawn from the Cauldron. Therefore, all story created is a combination of the framework and themes of previously told tales, which have then been flavoured and adapted by the new teller. The tellers borrow the parts they want, then they sculpt and shape them to fit their own vision. By doing this they change the flavour of the Cauldron, creating an entirely new story, while retaining some of the themes and frameworks from others. Each time this is done, myths, fairy–tales and fantasies become more intertwined, creating a visible intersection between all story ever told over the ages. Though the idea of a metaphorical cauldron or soup was originally mentioned in Dasent's 'Popular Tales from the Norse', the concept wasn't fully fleshed out into the Cauldron of Tale until Tolkien's essay, 'On Faerie–Stories'. According to Dickerson and O'Hara, in his essay Tolkien also refers to the Cauldron as a 'soup containing bones' (112). In this re–wording of the Cauldron, the bones are the framework and themes of previous tales, and the soup is the teller's adaptation of the story in its entirety. The concept of 'The Cauldron of Story' can be explained in more detail by using the example of Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm's story 'Rapunzel' (1857) ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. Comparing Women In Fairy Tales And A Cinderella Story While classic fairy tales give a solid baseline on morals, it also bases itself in the patriarchal concepts by placing women as passive figures that need to be saved by a man and that a girl's wildest dreams can be fulfilled with marriage. These tales instruct that marriage is the "happily ever after" women are satisfied with; this may have been satisfactory during those time periods where women typically were not allowed by society to carry much agency, but as women change, so too should their stories. With the rise of female power in the past century, there is a need forfairy tale adaptations that fit the standards of modern women.
