Union Jack (that is the British flag.)

We recognize the Queen but we can't see her eyes
because she is blindfolded, or her mouth because she is gagged, like a hostage.
7. This poster was created by James REID in 1977 for the Sex Pistols, a
punk group. It's a provocative, vulgar name, chosen to shock people.
This poster is a collage of the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II placed in the
middle of the British flag.
The title is taken from the national anthem ( = hymne national) but it is not
a tribute to the United Kingdom because the Queen, who appears at the
centre of the poster is blinfolded and gagged by the words « God save
the Queen » and « Sex Pistols ».The writing seems cut out from
newspaper, like for a ransom. The Queen is not elected : she shouldn't
represent the British people.
Usually people are respectful to the flag and the Queen because they
represent the country, the monarchy, authority, social status. This collage
is everything but respectful, so the style of the picture is unusual, so is
the name of the band. The elements and the composition clash a lot ! It
was designed as a critique of social hierarchies, which is one of the
political messages of the punk movement. Provocation is a good way to
sell record !
