3. Why does Scrooge look closely at the
metal knocker on his front door ?
● Scrooge went home from an inn where he had
his dinner. He opened the door but the knocker
was different : Scrooge « saw Marley's face in
the middle of » it ! (p.12)
● He « was very surprised » and « slammed the
door ». And he went to his rooms upstairs very
quickly.
● He can't believe
his own eyes...
4. What does Scrooge see when he sits by
the fire ?
● « He saw Marley's face again, in the flames of
the fire. » (p. 13)
● He had no time to react this time : all the bells
in the house started to ring.
5. What happens next ?
● Then Scrooge heard another noise : someone
pulling metal chains downstairs.
The noise comes nearer and nearer/closer and
closer.
● Finally Marley's ghost comes straigth through
the door.
6. Who is Scrooge's visitor ? Describe
him.
● Scrooge's visitor is the ghost
of Jacob Marley.
● Jacob Marley was Scrooge's
business partner many years
before.
● He is well-dressed (coats &
boats) and has a white cloth
tied round his face and chin.
●There are huge chains around his body and on the
floor behind him. On the chains, there are money-
boxes, keys, locks and account books.
