What is a paragraph?
The paragraph is a minimum unit of
text that has coherent meaning. The
paragraphs are constituted by one or
several sentences.
When writing a text each paragraph
must have the ideas ordered,
otherwise understanding would be
impossible. Each paragraph should
contain a secondary idea of the central
theme
Argumentative
paragraph
This type of paragraph the writer tries to argue,
explain or give sustenance to some secondary
idea of the central theme. Given that its
intention is to convince the reader of a given
idea, it exposes the reasons that make affirming
or denying an idea.
Example
Advantages and disadvantages of abortion
This topic causes a lot of controversy all over the world. Many people are in favor and a lot are
against. Is it really killing when an abortion is made or is it saving lives of ill women that
present pregnancy danger? Do people do something bad or is avoiding potential suffering of a
human being that will not have nothing or nobody to count on during his/her childhood?
The latest research about the topic let us know that if this procedure is made in certain level of
the pregnancy we will not be killing, also some researches say that a high percentage of
women have saved their lives when they took the decision. On the other hand, some countries
allow the procedure when the pregnancy comes from a rape. Despite the evidence presented
in the previous lines a lot of people are still against.
In conclusion it could be said that despite all the advantages that abortion could bring to
society, it is not totally accepted yet.
Conceptual
paragraph
This type is usually found at the beginning of a
text where the subject is presented, that is why
if the reader is not a connoisseur of the
subject. Its main function is to provide
definitions or important concepts of the
subject under treatment. They are usually
present in scientific, informative or technical
texts.
Paragraph
chronograp
h
This type of paragraph, as its
name implies, contains
information on events or events
that have occurred over a
period of time. It is important
for readers to understand that
these events are consistent with
the time and order in which
they happened.
Example
Application of injections:
The medications are agreed to be given every four hours, first
we have to locate the vitamin infusion, then the antibody
remedy is injected and at the end the antibody is delivered the
next day at the same time, until the seven days It should not be
exposed to infections and excessive climates during 15 days to
avoid complications.
Paragraph of
enumeration
In this case paragraphs of this type are formed by
characteristics, which are separated by commas. This
allows you to give the reader a complete idea of how
the event happened or how the object is treated as a
central theme. Whenever features are listed, it is
important to keep in mind that it is important to
provide details but not to mention those that are not
important or redundant.
Example
Garden plants:
In my garden I planted five different types of flowers, at the
back of the garden the red roses, in the center planter I put
daisies, next to the fountain are the hydrangeas and in the
flower boxes at the ends are the yellow and white roses.
Descriptive
paragraph
In a descriptive paragraph the author uses
the senses to describe the attributes of who
or what speaks in the text, so that the
receiver can make a clearer picture of what is
described. it is characterized because it
pretends to represent an object, animal,
person, place or feeling, exposing its
particular characteristics..
Example
The leafy oak stands erect and proud in the middle of the
park where every afternoon the children play around it. The
mothers rest on the wooden benches watching their little
ones play while the imposing tree provides them with good
shade, which helps them cool off on hot spring afternoons.
Explanatory
paragraph
Example
The oldest society of all, and the only natural one, is that of a
family; and even in this society the children only persevere with
their father all the time they need for their preservation. From the
moment this need ceases, the natural bond dissolves. The
free from the obedience owed to the father, and the father,
from the care he owed the children, also recover their
independence. If they continue united, it is no longer naturally,
by their will; and the family itself is not maintained except by
convention.
These types of paragraphs are used with
the aim of providing a more complete
idea about a particular aspect of the
central theme or to explain the reason
for an event.
Expository
paragraph
Example the Moon
The Moon is the only natural satellite on Earth. With a diameter of
3476 km, it is the fifth largest satellite in the Solar System, while in
proportion to the size of its planet it is the largest satellite: a
quarter of the diameter of the Earth and 1/81 of its mass. After Io,
is also the second densest satellite. It is in synchronous relation
with the Earth, always showing the same face towards the planet..
This paragraph is intended to present
ideas regardless of whether or not an
explanation later or why. In other words,
it is related how a given event happened..
Comparative
paragraph
Types of exercises:
The exercises within sports centers are divided into two, aerobic
and anaerobic, of which you have to compare and / or
distinguish them because the benefits of both types of exercise
produce different types of benefits, plus they can be mixed at
any given time . So aerobic exercises are those that are aimed
people with rapid displacements and have more cardiac
while anaerobic exercises can be applied more to muscle
because the movements with weight and weight produce a
muscular work that forces it to grow to resist the weight.
As its name indicates in this type of
paragraphs, two aspects or secondary
ideas of the central theme are compared.
It serves to explain two different
conceptions of a given topic.
Example
Deductive paragraph
 In this type, the main idea is placed at the
beginning and from it the secondary ideas that
lead to a conclusion are released.
Example.
 The drugs do not have legality, because they
cause irreversible damage, they poison the body
and not only cause us external damages but also
internally, therefore nobody should consume
them.
Inductive paragraph
 Unlike the previous type in this case is part of a
conclusion or negative and from it the different
explanations or arguments that allow then to get to
the main idea.
Example
 From my window at five in the afternoon always the
same people met, curiosity day after day grew, I just
wanted to know what happened there, and one day
I decided, get off, I approached and finally
understood, everyone was looking for a solution to
the growing problem of pollution.
Paragraph……
Cause and effect
paragraph
The anger:
This is a viral infection that is spread by infected saliva
from one animal to another, its infection occurs mainly by
the bite of animals, initially bats or vampires that are
carriers and infect animals such as foxes, dogs and even
cats or mice .
This affects the brain and had no way to heal, but finally
the solution was found by Dr. Luis Pasteur, who discovered
that by killing the virus and infecting the body, it could
produce immunity and stop the infection.
The paragraphs by cause and effect are those
that raise and solve problems within the
development of a given topic, so they
present a fact or situation and clarify the
reasons why this was given and how it can be
resolved.
