3. Gossip defined
A. Casual or unconstrained
conversation or reports
about other people,
typically involving details
that are not confirmed or
true.
B. Revealing personal or
rumors about someone
else without them knowing.
C. A person who likes talking
about others peoples
private lives.
4. Gossip defined
• 1 Timothy 5:9-15…turn with me please…
• Tattlers (Gk. Phlyaros)— A garrulous person
(excessively talkative, especially on trivial matters), to talk
non-sense, gossipy. Babbling, trifling, vain.
• To boil up, to throw up bubbles of water. Since bubbles
are hollow and useless things, when we indulge in empty
and foolish talk we not only gossip but are vain.
• Busybody (Gk. Periergos) Working all around, officious,
neglectful of important matters, busy about other persons
affairs.

7. Gossip and Lying
• Proverbs 6:16-18 …turn with me please…
• Revelation 21:8 But the cowardly (fearful) and
unbelieving and abominable and murders and
whoremongers (immoral persons) and sorcerers and
idolaters and all liars, shall have their part in the law
which burns with fire and brimstone: which is the second
death.
11. The Christian’s speech
• Proverbs 15:28 The heart of the righteous studies how to
answer, but the mouth of the wicked pours forth evil.
• Ephesians 4:15 But speaking the truth in love, may
grow up into Him in all things, which is the head, Christ.
• Colossians 4:6 Let your speech be always with grace,
seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought
to answer each person.
12. Un-install Gossip
James 1:19—…let every man
be swift to hear, slow to speak,
slow to wrath.
James 1:26-…If anyone thinks
he is religious and does not
bridle his tongue but deceives
his heart, this person’s religion
is worthless.
James 3:10—Out of the same
mouth proceeds blessing and
cursing. My brethren, these
things ought not so to be.
