Mobile phones have become very popular, with 93% of UK adults owning one in 2016. Smartphones now allow people to do more than just communicate, providing access to music, games, social media, browsing and videos. Apple appears to dominate the youth market, with surveys showing most young people owning iPhones. Apple's sales figures significantly outperform Samsung's over several years. However, a visit to a college found that while most students had iPhones, especially girls who cited taking selfies, some students preferred other brands like HTC that offered different features than Apple and Samsung. Recent issues with Samsung's Galaxy Note 7 catching fire led to news coverage and public concern about the safety of that phone model.
