3. Coliseum VS Parthenon
The Coliseum and the Parthenon are basically the greatest and ancient architectural
creations of humanity. When talking about Parthenon and coliseum, there are many
differences between both unique buildings, and now I’m about to show their differences.
Parthenon and coliseum are some significant ancient unique buildings in history. Parthenon
“is probably the most celebrated of all Greek temples” (Barletta, 2003, p. 67). As Barletta
(2003).
First, The coliseum was built by the roman empire in 70-82 C.E. Hopkins (2003) for
entertainment for his people, which also represented the power of Roman Empire. Titus
completed the amphitheatre that started construction by emperor Vespasian. Roman
Emperor Vespian ordered the Flavian Amphitheatre now known as the Roman Coliseum,
The coliseumwas covered in a huge awning called a velavium. The main pedestals were built
of mortar, tuff, tiles, marble blocks, travertine on the outside and brick in the interior was
built at The Flavian Amphitheatre It has place for fifty thousand spectators during a
gladiator fight in the Coliseumin the coliseum, many gladiators were killed,. The
Parthenon is the “hall of Greece”, Coliseum is the “house of Rome”. Roth, Leland M.
(1993)
Secondly, The Coliseumthroughout theatre and art was built to conspicuous “growth
of ethicality”. The phrase “Quandiu stabit coliseums stabit Roma” means Rome shall stand
as long as Coliseumstands is well known all over the world and is best to indicate the
memorandum of the amphitheatre. It is the symbol of honour and is also built in the
“blossoms” of the Roman Empire. The symbol of unity in Coliseumbecame one of the
greatest symbol for humanity.
Moreover, The Parthenon is an ancient temple with Athena inside. It is an altar to
Greek’s god who made Greece stronger and more powerful. It sat in ruins after the Persian
War because other repairs to the city were needed, so the project of restoring the
Parthenon was postponed for about 30 years The great Athenian leader Perikles resumed
the construction in 447 B.C. to continue its glory. The Parhthenon survived the attacks on
the city during war in between Athens and Sparta. Parthenon is one of the most famous
places in the world. It is dedicated to Athena. The Parthenon combines elements of the
Doric and Ionic orders. Basically a Doric peripteral temple, it features a continuous sculpted
frieze borrowed from the Ionic order, as well as four Ionic columns supporting the roof of
the opisthodomos. It took over 10million days to make the Parthenon, a church in France
was copied by the Parthenon. It is now used as a tourist attraction. It is made with 22,000
marble wood and gold (Barletta, 2003, p. 67).. The outer circumference of coliseum
measures 545metres. It is 50metres high, 189 metres long and 156 metres wide. There were
many types of gladiators in the past. There was arch that supported the weight of the
coliseum. Nero ordered murders to kill the people who disliked him. Coliseumnow It is now
4. used as a tourist attraction. There is still many artifacts hidden there. There are still many
mysteries there.
As conclusion, Parthenon is located in Greece and Coliseumis located in
Rome ,both buildings are very beautiful and unique, which makes a breath taking
impression. Greece and Roman architecture is truly amazing. They each had great idea and
amazing productions, which makes them absolutely different .Both unique architectural
buildings are now listed as protected buildings and used as a tourist attraction. There are
still many people looking forward to visit these both unique buildings. The Coliseumand
Parthenon are both beautiful work of art that shows the power and confident spirit of the
city, and It is also two buildings that full of history.
